GAME PREVIEW South Gambier v North Gambier With only four rounds left, time is ticking in the 2022 Bendigo Bank Western Border Football League season before finals and one team in the thick of the action is North Gambier. The Tigers are tentatively placed near West and Casterton Sandford on the ladder and only two can survive. The yellow and black have appeared safe for the majority of the season, but just one win from five games has made life harder. Things will not get any easier this Saturday as the hot team of the competition South Gambier awaits.
THOMAS MILES - SE VOICE
Hard heads Nick McInerney, Hamish Telford and Brett Shepherdson could try to hit their opponents hard to slow South, but it will be a challenge with so many names from Josh Woodall to Mitch Sims in top form. East Gambier v Casterton Sandford Having suffered some disappointing results recently, both East Gambier and Casterton Sandford will give it everything for the premiership points at the “Kennel”. Back-to-back defeats have put the Cats on the back foot in their finals race and they hope another Bulldogs win can kick them into gear.
In the previous clash the Victorians pulled off one of the biggest heists of the year coming from behind kicking 11 straight goals thanks to the grand efforts of Dylan Ayton and Alistair McCrae. They will use the result as inspiration, but so will the Bulldogs, who have not been as close to glory since. The Anzac Day battle lived up to the occasion With only one win on the board all year, East is with the Tigers leading at half time, only for the effectively out of the finals race, but has Demons to find an extra gear thanks to Brett declared it will never give up. O’Neil’s gritty efforts and win by just 11 points. The return clash at Blue Lake Sports Park However, the Dogs require a miracle, needing followed a similar pattern as a low scoring to win every game and many other results to go their way and last week’s 99-point defeat to contest in cold conditions. Both sides went goal for goal in the first half South was not a good omen. and North emerged in front in prime position Millicent v West Gambier to drive home the advantage. But unfortunately for the Tigers, they froze Millicent and West Gambier are two teams in when it mattered most as South scored all strong form will be determined to carry their three goals of the second half to steal the game momentum at McLaughlin Park this Saturday. by 10 points with Mason Hein and James The Roos have collected two important wins over their nearest rivals to enhance their Paprotny focal points. September chances. But the Demons know they got away with it on Lawry Bradley-Brown has reminded the both occasions, so much so that coach Brayden competition of his game-changing ability, while Lewis Lean and company have the Kain is weary of the battle ahead. “They have been the most challenging team backline in formidable form. we have faced all year,” he said. “They matchup really well on us and I did not West Gambier assistant coach Nathan Lewis see West getting over the top of them on said the recent success generates some confidence around the group Saturday. “It is a challenge we are really looking forward “We like to think we can shake it up, but words are just words and we will have to prove it in to.” The Demons have been breathing fire recently, playing with speed and the Tigers will need to be switched on from start to finish. Despite losing on both occasions, North can take plenty of heart from its previous clashes. The yellow and black pushed the ladder leaders to the final siren on both occasions.
F.L. our actions against these good sides,” he said. “We did not have our best team available but now we have pretty much everyone back on deck which makes it a lot easier to get some continuity. “The development of the young kids is what is driving it because we do not have the big forward but guys like Mitch Cornolo get into the contests. “If they can bring it against the big sides like Millicent I am excited to see what they can do.” But a bigger test awaits against the Saints, who may not yet be at full strength, but are still one of the best teams going around. After being outplayed by South, Millicent rediscovered its best over at Island Park with its trademark effort, energy and intensity back, while the delivery to Dylan Bromely was top notch with the forward bagging eight. Saints coach Clint Gallio said his team is not quite at full strength, but is looking to show West their best. “We are hoping to get a few more over the next few weeks, especially after the bye to make sure we are right for the last month,” he said. “West got up on the weekend even through North was above them on the ladder, so if you are not on you will lose. “West have some quality players… the last time we played them it was in really poor conditions, so you cannot take too much out of it. “We only won in the last five minutes , but it will be a different story this weekend and we have to make sure we are ready to go again.” The previous battle was a thriller, but in strange conditions, so this Saturday will p ro v i d e a d e e p e r insight.

Firstly, a belated congratulations to Nat Robbins on his 250th Senior game last week. After finishing his senior career on 249 games, it was great to see him be a late call up and get the opportunity to tick off a well-deserved milestone. The seniors bounced back strongly after their loss the previous week to register a big win against the Cats. Bomma was on fire early up forward to have 8 goals at half time, but unfortunately couldn’t add to his tally in the second half. Kade Bradley continued his fine form in the backline and was able to float forward and kick 3 goals. Other better players were Cargs, Eli Redman and Finn Grimes. The Ressies were able to get a jump on their opponents in the second quarter and hold on for a 4 goal win in what was otherwise a tightly fought contest. Mitch Reilly and Zac Bradley kicked a couple goals each while Matt Withers and Harry Willis were our best. Some important matches coming up in the run home if the Ressies want to hold on to
V
that important second spot.
The U16’s went down in a close one. Harry Gibbs kicked 4 goals to be named best, while Ashton Lindner, Jack Haggett and Charlie Damhuis were the other best players. The U14’s also had a tight game but were able to kick a few late goals to win by 17 points. Beau Douglas was best and also kicked 2 goals, with Ryder Lindner, Ari Robbins, Teej Lawlor, Lenny Tunkin and Naite Thomson rounded out the best players. Our thoughts this week have been with our Senior team manager Craig Robinson after the passing of his father John Robinson. John, a SANFL life m e m b e r, w a s a 2 - t i m e premiership player with Port Adelaide who, after finishing his career at Glenelg, went on to give another 40 years of service to the Bays in a number of different roles. His passion and dedication to football clearly rubbed off on Craig, and we wear black arm bands today in his memory.
250 Games last weekend for Nat Robbins
With season finish fast approaching all wins are now becoming vital, last weeks win against our arch rival was even more pleasing.

East Gambier Red & Black Last week we took the long drive out to Blue Lake Sports Park to take on league leaders South Gambier, it wasn't a good day result wise their were little positives throughout the day. U14s it was 1st vs 2nd and the top of the ladder Demons jumped the lads in the 1st quarter kicking 5 goals to 1 in which the boys couldn't turn the tide but on a positive the boys have time to knuckle down at training and iron out the creases before finals best players Cruz McCracken, William Rentsch, Isaac Dwyer, Solomon Telford, Riley Mitchell and Jarvi Mee. U16s the result probably didn't reflect the game the lads had minimal numbers so couldn't rotate off the bench compared to South who were rotating heavily but our boys fought it out to the end but were exhausted late into the game best player Noah Gollan, Ky McCracken, Toby Grigg, Angus Clarke, Corey Smith and Charlie Clark. U18s were outmatched for 3 quarters but a positive for coach Jason Dunn was our lads drew South in the last quarter best
V
players were Thomas Bignell, Sam C o u l d rey, S aw N a i , H a r l o n Puhara, Nicholas Bignell and Shar Ku Htoo. B grade were outmatched all day by a very good Reserves side best players were Jayden Lines, Thomas Graney, Matty Bennett, Liam Hicks, Jesse Plunkett and Ben Gaffney . A grade with a very young and inexperienced side had a crack all day coaches Eldridge and Scanlon would get some positives with the improvement of our young players best players were Mark Rumbelow, Jayden Eldridge, James Byrne, Will Ellis, Keenan Dwyer and Carl Slape. This week we host Casterton Sandford hopefully I can report a few wins next week. We also have our Presidents lunch with guest speaker Warrick Capper which should be entertaining. Up coming events August 13th is our red and black ball and auction night so get in touch with the club to book a table.

We are very lucky Cat Fans that we have a fantastic facility in Island Park to play and watch sport at, we are also very lucky to have great volunteers who make sure our day out is an enjoyable one, thankyou to all the volunteers. The Under 14's was an evenly contested game but the Saints just had a bit more in the tank in the last quarter, better players were Reghan Parsons, Samuel Patton, Vera Madex's great grandsons Brody Pratt and Connor Stephens, Nate Longhurst and Riley Hutchins. The Under 16's was another evenly matched contest but this time it was the Cats who came home the stronger, winning by 9 points. Sam Craig kicked 3 goals and was named in the best along with Sullivan Gibbs, Ricky Kaliebe, Joshua Jones, Elwood Geary and Mitchell Bright.
Better Players for the Cats were Pat Milich, Jarrad Smith, Michael Jarrad, Matt Kurzman, Nathan Faroe and Ben Holmes. The Senior lads never stopped trying but were outclassed by a Millicent side looking to avenge their loss from the previous week, better players were Ethan Currie, Justin Carlin, Hamish McCrae, Diarmid Cleary, Gabe Parsons and Charlie Jarrad. Today we play East Gambier at McDonald Park, the Doggies always put on a good show both on and off the field and I hear the Wiz, Warwick Richard Capper, is here today giving a talk, so let's help the Wiz out but cheering as loud as we can for our Cats, Carn CATS! Thank-you to all our valued sponsors including Boonaroo, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Bendigo Bank, and Casterton Secondary College
The Reserves were celebrating Upcoming Events Peter Hutchins 250th club game, :July 23rd – Premiership Reunion unfortunately Pete got caught in July 31st – Sunday Market a contest and had to be taken by August 6th – Live Music Ambulance to Hospital for broken ribs and a pierced lung, congratulations on 250 games Pete and get well soon.

WITH FROM THE ARCHIVES A WITNESS TO THEIR LIVES 1955 South East and Border League teams SOUTH GAMBIER IN 1955 ruckman Les Atkinson was captaincoach and he would go on to play with the Demons right through to about 1960. He came from Black Rock near Melbourne and was a talented ruckman and although not tall at about 6’2” was strongly built. Atkinson would coach only one year. The following year in 1956 South sensationally appointed West Adelaide’s young gun Neil Kerley (22 years of age) but West Adelaide stepped in and refused to release him as they saw him as a future star and coach which of course happened in 1960, 61 and 62 and was premiership coach in 1961. He was sensationally sacked at the end of 1962 after he got West into another grand final against Port Adelaide but lost. In regard to the South coaching appointment, Kerley felt he had let South down but with help of West Adelaide and a “sweetener deal” they arranged that star centreman Bernie Slattery, a state player in 1949 and early 50s and who was nearing the end of his career would be put forward as an alternative coach and that was
accepted by South.
GREENWOOD
Slattery had coached Kybybolite the previous year after leaving West Adelaide so had coaching experience. He had just one season in 1956 and while he enjoyed his short time in Mount Gambier, his wife wanted to return to Adelaide to be with family. Neil Kerley died last week at aged 88.
Barney Seager was another top level player and vice captain and centreman and half back flanker Bill McGregor played through to the end of the SEBFL era. Trevor “Killer” Kain was a regular as a rover or wingman and Doug Long, a young ruckman would later play league with Geelong and captain-coach Glenelg in the early 1960s.
Meanwhile, in 1955 South had been bottom or near bottom for most of the period from the 1951 premiership but had some good players in the line-up.
Max Crouch was another multi-skilled sportsman and he excelled at football and cricket being in various premierships with South in football (49 and 51) and Yahl in cricket.
A young Ken Peacock would make his mark as a half back flanker during the late 1950s and early 60s, while Colin Nicholls was a good utility player and Doug Naismith, one of the best full backs at the time, played with South during the 1950s. Harry Coggins made his presence felt on the cricket field but was also a handy A grade footballer.

Footballer of the Month JEDDRHOOK
Gracie has been a promising junior for some me at the club but in 2022 and especially the past month, Gracie has taken her game to a whole new level. She has filled in twice for the 17 & Under team and been best on court in both games; she represented Western Border at the SA Country Championships in the 15 & Under Championship team that finished runner up and she is ge ng the job done at both ends of the court. MATCH REPORTS CASTERTON SANDFORD V MILLICENT It was always going to be a tough ask and despite Millicent missing tall premiership shooter Tabatha Sanderson for the second successive week, the Saints were able to easily account for Casterton Sandford. Of course, when the Sanderson replacement is State 17 & Under goal shooter Annelise Janssen, who is equally accurate and just as strong a target, The teenage shooter shot a perfect 16 from 16 in the opening quarter as the Saints set up a 12 goal quarter me lead. It was a strong opening from the Cats as well, though, with Ivy Lane also enjoying a perfect shoo ng performance but the difference was the amount of supply. Janssen was sidelined in the second and third quarter with Paige Nitschke taking the goal shooter bib and while there was no height in the Millicent goal circle, the speed of ball and smart movement of Nitschke and Demi Verbena ensured the scoreboard kept cking over and between them, the duo shot 34 from 38 in the second and third. Casterton Sandford kept a more se led line-up this weekend and that did result in some strong passages of play, with the only change being the swapping of bibs of Caeleigh Humphries and Charlo e Rice in the last quarter – a slight reshuffle of the circle defensive line. Lane and Madalene Cleary are certainly star ng to gel as a shoo ng combina on, while Makayla Hutchins has injected some speed into the Cats mid court that complements the hard running and tenacity of Scarle Jarrad in centre. Ebany Jarrad had arguably her best game for 2022 on the defensive wing, taking on three different opponents and making life tough for whichever Saints feeder came her way. The 12 goal quarter me lead for Millicent became 19 at the half, was 26 at three quarter me and 35 at the final whistle, but scoring 40 goals of their own would have been a source of pride for the Cats. Janssen returned in the final quarter and again put 16 goals on the board, with Verbena feeding her shoo ng partner to perfec on. The defensive efforts of Millicent o en go unno ced despite the fact it sets up so man y of their scoring opportuni es and Por a McRae was outstanding in keeper, o en taking risks and hun ng the intercep on, working hard over the shot and domina ng the rebounding duel.
SOUTH GAMBIER V EAST GAMBIER It was tantamount to an elimina on final and reigning premiers East Gambier showed they are s ll very much invested in their premiership defence with a stunning opening 10 minutes. The Bulldogs powered to an 11-2 lead on the back of South Gambier errors, a dominant defensive effort from Emily Hunter, a dominance in the air of defenders Morgan Amy and Chloe Perryman and the accurate finishing of Amryn Bosko and Sarah Lock. The young Demons looked all at sea but did regain some composure late to go into the first break seven goals down. The next two quarters were genuine arm wrestles and while at one stage in the third, the Demons had the lead cut to five and possession, the relentless defensive pressure and their own decision making and execu on errors, saw East head into the final quarter with an 11 goal lead. It went back to one way traffic in the last and the final margin of 18 was reflec ve of the consistency of the two sides. Defensively, East contested everything with Amy, Perryman, Tyne Bosko and Hunter not allowing any easy ball in the goal third, while in offence they showed great speed and dare when required and pa ence, mainly through the work rate of Tarsh McCallum, when the South defence challenged and with Amryn Bosko and Lock combining be er each week now they are back in combina on together, the Bulldogs always looked in control. The ba le between Hunter and Imogen Walker was one for the ages with the two centres hi ng the deck regularly as they contested every ball and not surprisingly, both were named their side's best. Tully McShane entered the match at half me for the Demons and used her speed to great effect and was safe with ball in hand, while Grace Edwards pressured the shot and rebounded strongly when the East shooters presented those rare opportuni es. Given the Bulldogs were missing Bo Creek, it was an impressive victory and means it really is do-ordie for the Demons this weekend if they want to break back into the top four. NORTH GAMBIER V WEST GAMBIER The first quarter between North Gambier and West Gambier at Vansi art Park set the tone for
DENTON’S
the contest – it was going to be a high scoring affair – and that is how it panned out as West scored over 80 goals for the second successive week, taking the win 81-61. The opening quarter was a high scoring 21-18 in favour of the visitors as the two in form goal shooters – West's Sarah Ri er and North's Caroline Wakefield went two to toe. Ri er ne ed 17 from 20 and Wakefield converted 15 from 16 and it was basically up to each team to work out the best way to limit the scoring opportuni es for the 2021 Team of the Year goalers. North youngster Alysha Coon had the job on Ri er and the inexperienced defender did her best to deny Ri er easy ball but the weight of supply proved too much, as well as the speed of ball coming in and it ensured Ri er con nued to keep the scoreboard cking over. With Mel Renko also missing, the general of the Tigers backline, it saw versa le teenager Lauran Norman, who has played in all three areas of the court in A Grade this season, playing alongside Coon and given their inexperience as players and as a combina on, their efforts were commendable. Ri er, though, nailed 18 from 23 as West surged to an 11 goal half me lead and 17 from 20 in the third to see the Roos going into the last with a 19 goal lead. Wakefield con nued to be accurate as well but just didn't see anywhere near as much of the ball and in the end North's 74 scoring shots to West's 96 told the story, with both sides finishing accurately. The respec ve goal a acks were also in good form in this match and were the key feeders on the day – Lisa McGregor, who swapped bibs with Ri er in the final quarter, for the winners and rising star Macey Griffith for North. The respec ve mid courts matched each other for hard running but both sides would probably like to up the ante with defensive pressure and slow the ball movement of their opposi on and sides looking to beat top of the table West will definitely need to do that or the Roos will con nue to build wins on their prolific scoring, which not only has topped the 80 goal mark the last two rounds but was 70-plus the previous round.
ROUND PREVIEWS NORTH GAMBIER V SOUTH GAMBIER Last week was basically an elimina on final for the Demons – they can be rest assured this weekend definitely is a do-or-die contest when South heads to Vansi art Park. No doubt working on a strong start will be on the agenda of stand in coach Felicity Walker, given the Demons have had poor opening quarters against Millicent and East in successive week, only to then hit their straps from quarter me onwards. South will need to come out of the blocks firing, playing with the same despera on as East did last weekend when they outplayed the Demons across the board. Aside from fixing the starts, limi ng the supply to Caroline Wakefield will be the number one priority for South and while that will be the focus, leaving Macey Griffith to roam free is also dangerous, with the teenager having a stand out debut season. Gri h, along with Ash Kalantarian and Brianna Walters is safe with ball in hand, and the likes of Tully McShane, Ruby Richter, Megan Reid and Imogen Walker will need to pressure the North feeders to give their defensive line of Ellie Bouchier and Grace Edwards a chance to turn the ball over. The Tigers have had a season where player availability through injury, illness and other commitments has handicapped their chance to build team chemistry and this has been most evident at the defensive end of the court. Mel Renko returning will be a key as she leads that end of the court, while Zahra Crough, Alysha Coon, Lauran Norman and Libby Morgan will be looking to make life tough for Lara Munro and Alyssa Duncan in the South shoo ng circle. The Demons made too many errors with ball in hand last weekend and they will need to be more pa ent and value possession more dearly this weekend if they are to remain in conten on for the top four. The uncertainty surrounding just who will hit the court for North makes pping an even tougher game but Wakefield will no doubt
prove to be the difference in a narrow win for the Tigers. MILLICENT V WEST GAMBIER It is a top of the table clash that will ul mately see one side elevate themselves to premiership favourite. Both sides have been scoring at will and it will come down to the side that can apply the most defensive pressure and limit those scoring opportuni es. Tabatha Sanderson will return to the court for the Saints and in her absence, Demi Verbena has con nued to dominate at goal a ack as she leads the Millicent frontline. And the scoring poten al at the other end has been even greater with Sarah Ri er scoring 50-plus goals every week and Lisa McGregor, much like Verbena, using her smarts and leadership to run the West a ack line and also, again like verbena, finish accurately when required. The mid courts are an intriguing contrast with an experienced Saints taking on the speed and athle cism of the young Roos mid court. Lisa Duldig is all class and Paige Nitschke is as unassuming but as effec ve as they come and both are safe with ball in hand, while Georgia Clark has brought some real tenacity to the wing defence role and can also run through the middle if required. The Roos mid court has the speed and class of Tara Bryant, the height and crea ve feeding of Mikaela Horrigan and close checking and strong driving of Zoe Malseed. Both defensive lines will be looking for the respec ve mid courts to slow the passage of the ball and pressure the delivery into the shoo ng circle. Milicent’s Hannah Nitschke and Por a McRae are forming a tough defensive duo, finding the balance of ght checking and hun ng the intercep on and the McRaeRi er ba le will be one for the ages.
co m p e o n a n d her combina on with Jade Ri er is also developing nicely and they have an uncanny ability to shut down me and space on opposi on frontlines. It looms as a tough goal for goal high scoring ba le with the Roos to just edge out the Saints for the second me this season. EAST GAMBIER V CASTERTON SANDFORD East Gambier was on fire last weekend, coming out of the blocks like a team possessed. The finals are looming, last weekend was a must-win for the Bulldogs and the reigning premiers are really star ng to hit their straps. Emily Hunter was at her dynamic best, Tarsh McCallum was also on song with her ability to work the small spaces, Sarah Lock and Amryn Bosko are star ng to find their mojo as a combina on and their accuracy was back and Tyne Bosko, Chloe Perryman, who will no doubt step aside for the return of Bo Creek, and Morgan Amy were s fling with their pressure and brave with their willingness to hunt for intercep ons. It looms as a tough road trip for Casterton Sandford, although the Cats would be buoyed by scoring 40 goals last weekend against the Saints as they put out a more se led line-up and showed be er pa ence in a ack and tenacity in defence, despite missing key defender Tessa Marra. The Cats will need the likes of Scarle Jarrad, Ebany Jarrad and Caeleigh Humphries to try and slow the ball movement of the Bulldogs, which was at its slick best last weekend, while Ivy Lane and Madalene Cleary, who con nue to work well as a shoo ng combina on, will need to be pa ent to find a way through the tough Bulldogs defence. East will take the points but a er last week’s improved performance, the Cats will have their own goals in mind to con nue their 2022 development.
At the other end, Amy Cram con nues to be one of the smartest defenders in the

North Gambier Yellow & Black Under 11’s North 2 vs West 26 We Played West today and it was the best game of our season so far. We still struggled to score but we definitely had control of the play for a greater percentage of the game. Our passing down court and driving into space was amazing such a great effort. Well done everyone can’t wait to see what we can do in the remaining games. Best players: Addison Kamphius and Isla Clark (Squashbrook) Under 13A’s North 20 vs West 37 We knew that our game against West will be tough, and the girls tried their best. We had a challenging week with Mischa, Mia and Lacey Hunter being sick. Although they played today, they were not at their full strength. We also missed 3 crucial players, Lacey Allen, Raine and Zoe due to injuries or illness. We tried new combinations with the help of our under 13B's. However, West was too strong. We will regroup next week, focus on getting our confidence back as well as executing our game plan. Best players: Georgia Nulty and Mischa Human Under 13B’s North 18 vs West 35 We played good netball for the 1st quarter. Our attack was solid, and our goalies did well. We were mindful that today was Lacey Hunter's last game for this season. Our defence was stronger with Amelie returning after being away for 4 weeks. West gained momentum from the 2nd quarter onwards and we struggled to a d a p t . We m i s s e d s o m e s c o r i n g opportunities, and it became tiring for the girls who already played full games in the 13A's. Not our best game this season but considering circumstances a performance to be proud of. Best players: Carey Grivell (3MP) and Ava Halloran (Halloran Diesel) Under 15 A’s North 65 vs West 31 We welcomed back Elodie Adam this week which was a good inclusion into our team. It was a solid 4 qtr effort from all the girls and every player continued to work on their personal goals. The team is not taking their foot off the pedal as they know the importance of the 2nd half of the season. Macey Griffith and Cara Nulty were dynamic in the ring and Cara was outstanding when she went out into WA. Sarah Brown and Maggie Collins were slick and have combined well. Jayme Young, Ruby Mitchell and Ava Collins continue to strengthen their defence combinations and are turning over a lot of ball. Best players: Ruby Mitchell and Sarah Brown Under 15 B’s North 35 vs West 30 This week saw us play catch up netball after a not so great start. But to the girl’s credit we settled well in the third and pulled the margin back and got in front. Penny and Bella were great down back with some accurate shooting from Mia and Milly. We need to work on our consistency and play 4 quarters leading into finals. Best players: Penny Coleman and Lily Brook (Squashbrook)
V
Under 17’s North 48 vs West 28 Today was a great team effort. The girls worked hard to implement the skills we had been working on at training. Our court structure was much better, enabling us to transition the ball smoothly into our attack. Our defensive pressure was again our strength, creating a number of turnovers in all areas of the court. We will need to ensure we take this intensity into our game next week if we want to be competitive with South. Best players: Haylee Brooks and Katie Dyson
C Grade North 43 vs West 38 A great game by the C grade team this week. West came out strong, but the North girls held their ground. For most of the game it was goal for goal. North needed to be strong and consistent for the whole game, which they were able to play out well. Some great passages of play and many intercepts which we were able to score off of. North slowly crept away with a lead in the third quarter but had to keep fighting right to the last second. It was a great team effort all round and great to come away with a win this week! Best players: Georgia Wehrmann and Zarly Jones (Greg and Christine Kennedy) B Grade North 68 vs West 39 It took us a little bit to get going at the start of the 1st quarter, but it wasn’t before long, and the goalies had their eye in and were shooting and moving around the circle brilliantly. The defensive pressure throughout the whole game from either end was great putting the pressure on West. The girls were backing each other up and capitalising on every turnover we managed to get. Another great game girls, well done. Best players: Nat Fox (San Piero Coffee) and Maddie Pegler A Reserve North 49 vs West 61 This week was our first game with a full team for the entire season which was an opportunity to try some different combinations. Although we showed some lovely patches of play unfortunately, we weren’t consistent enough and West were able to hold their lead. The girls stayed positive and played through until the end with defence working tirelessly, working the ball through the midcourt and our goalies converting. Best players: Cara Nulty and Riley Mitchell A Grade North 61 vs West 81 With our defensive circle out this week, we had a very young defensive end. Alisha C o o n p l aye d G K a ga i n st t h e ve r y experienced combination of the west shooters, along with Lauren Norman. They did a really good job and should be proud of their efforts. It was a very close, goal for goal match initially, and we were able to open up their zone defence by quick passing and creative play. West were able to use turnovers more effectively, and there is no doubt their well drilled, experienced side will come close to taking out the premiership this year. Brianna ran her heart out and Ash was creative and consistent with her feeding. Best players: Libby Morgan-Howe and Macey Griffith

Special mention also needs to be made of Gracie Dalton who is not only knocking it out of the park in the 15as but she has been a critical fill in for the 17s and was clearly best on court at the weekend, playing strongly in goals so we could rest the A Grade girls for their important clash.

Hopefully we can continue to play at this high skill level throughout the rest of the season! 17s Millicent 41 lost to Casterton 43 Best Players - Poppy Venn & Portia McRae was a tough game with over half the side missing and some tired and sore girls coming back from a week of netball in Melbourne. This led to a great opportunity for under 15’s and A grade players stepping up and joining in with the game. a slow start was what costed us the game, however the girls did a great job to come back and fighting in
the last few quarters!

15As Millicent 53 def Casterton 22 Best Players - Piper Paul & Jamie Lucas After a slow 1st 1/4 looking congested and not moving the ball down the court well the girls stepped up their defence and managed to pick off numerous passes and our transitions became smoother. Best players were Piper Paul and Jamie Lucas 15Bs Millicent 56 def Casterton 10 Best players- Eva Crowe & Millie Matthews Great solid game today by the girls which seen them apply some great pressure all over the court creating many turnovers which lead to some great transition into the goalies to score. It's good to see the girls apply what they practice at training and bring it to their game on a Saturday. Well done Girls 13As Millicent 70 def Casterton 3 Best Players- Lucy Crowe & Bell Coghlan Another convincing win with Bell Coghlan leading the way with her relentless defensive pressure all over the court. Only 3 goals got passed our goal circle defenders and our smooth and quick feeds into our goalies made it tough for Casterton to stop our high scoring rate. Lucy Crowe used her speed and long reach in the mid court earning her best on court along with Bell. 13Bs Millicent 28 def Casterton 20 Best Players - Amarlie Thomson & Ella Matthews Another strong game against tough competition! Amarlie and Indi finished strong under the post, and their dynamic movement allowed us to convert our goals. Courtney had incredible court awareness, and Ella Matthews consistently fed into the circle accurately. Lindy played an incredible defensive game, and Imogen did a great gig of sticking tight to her player. Isabelle and Lainie got multiple touches and intercepts, and pulled in strongly for rebounds. Audrey did an amazing job, as she played for the first time in wing defence and showed skill in defending the goal circle. An excellent game, and plenty of things to work on for the game against west! 11s Millicent 26 def Casterton 12 A slow start for the girls this morning! Casterton moving the ball quickly in their attack catching Millicent on the back foot and finding themselves down after the first Quarter for the first time this season! In the second half they were more settled and with some strong defence kept Casterton from scoring, giving Millicent some great passages of play and creating scoring opportunities seeing them secure the win!
West Gambier
A fresh morning at North last week, but it was nice to see the sun. Some pleasing results for the day:
Under 11s - Wow what a freezing morning we had! Took us a while to get going. As the game went on though we just got stronger and stronger. The pressure in defence has been fantastic. I have been really pleased with that part of our game. We had lost of changes but everyone adjusted quickly. A very good game girls. West 26 – North 2 Best players Zoe Boyd and Aggie Thomas U13B - Well done to another amazing game this time our hard work getting us across the line in grand style. With Ella and Sammy away this week we had to shuffle a little in the mid court. Isla and Isobel showing how well they worked in centre, Hannah working well in both wing attack and wing defence with some really nice court plays bringing the ball down the court. The defenders working extremely well Matilda and Claire dominating in gk and gd for the whole game. Sara and Eva shooting was truely amazing after a slightly slow start this week and ending up with our highest score so far this season. North a nice little team who offered us a nice competition for this week. Thanks to Alice Allen and Analeigh Anderson for filling in. Way to go Westies!! West 35 – North 18 Best players Eva Povey and Claire Hunter Game day awards: Isobel Richards and Matilda Neale U13A - After shuffling through player unavailability over the last few weeks our game against North saw us try yet another new combination. The girls certainly rose to the challenge and came away with a convincing win. Swaye was a dominant force in GA and Alice caused havoc in our defensive end, continually turning the ball over to make sure we had plenty of extra opportunities to score. The girls were well supported by their team mates who all worked tirelessly and made sure they performed their roles. We look forward to our next match up against North when hopefully both teams have their full sides available. West 37 – North 20 Best players Alice Allen and Swaye Lindner U15B - This weekend saw the girls come up against top of the ladder North. The girls went in with a great positive mindset and despite it being an incredibly physical game they did their best and we are very proud of them. We had the opportunity to shake things up with positions which worked to our advantage in many ways. A special mention to Holly and Miley swapping ends and spending some time in defence applying pressure and grit where it was needed to support Macy and Zarah. Also to Ava who spent the game shooting and managing to score half the goals for the team. This team has grown not only in their netball skills but also the way in which they approach games and tricky situations all through this season and it's really showing on the court. West 30 – North 35 Best players Annabel Judd and Miley Vivian U 15A - It is always a tough game against North’s well polished side keeping our defenders on their toes straight away. The first half of the game the girls played with confidence and with great transitions from Ellie and Mikayla rebounding well and sending the ball down the court to the goalies who were playing a great partnership. Imogen and Lucy having a change in goal positions giving them a chance to challenge themselves in different roles. The mid court saw Tully leading beautifully into the open space and Alex driving down the court and both being quick hands into the goalies.
Blue & Red Although at times hesitation into the ring caused turnovers to North. The second half of the game saw the girls making unforced errors and giving up a chance to score on our centre breaks. Unfortunately the team didn’t come away with a win however they all played a great game. The scoreboard didn’t reflect the energy on the court. West 31 – North 65 Best players Alex Hudson and Lucy Simpson Game day awards Imogen McGregor and Alex Hudson U17s - The under 17’s played a strong competitive game today. Daena and I are seeing things we are practicing at training coming into the girls game on game day. Aleisha’s accuracy in goals lifted our team, supported by Stevi and then Hannah in the second half. Halle and Charlotte are a great combination at WA and C, working the ball down the court and feeding into our goalies. Each week I am so impressed with the determination and pressure my defence girls give. Maddie and Hannah combining well together. Kirra backing Maddie up in the second half. West 28 – North 48 Best players Stevi Clayton and Hannah Seidel Game day awards Aleisha Pearson and Halle Boult C Grade - West 38 – North 43 Best players Emily Sutherland and Alyssa Campbell B Grade - Player availability continues to be a thorn in the side for the B grade team. Down to one goalie, Lucy Simpson was asked to step up and make her seniors debut, and what a debut it was! There were so many positives to take from todays game, Courts and Mads combing well in defense, mid court girls combining well and Lucy slotting comfortably into goals with Kristy, we managed to post a modest loss that shows just how much improvement has taken place over our season. Zoe and Bianca played one of the most steadied and tenacious games to date. Kristy and Kirbs had a well earned rest in the last quarter, allowing Ella and Hayley to take the court and the combination of Ella and Lucy in goals will be an exciting pairing to keep and eye on. Lucy, you smashed it today! Earning yourself the game day award and Zoe, that fire in you is shining brighter every week! Keep it up girls! West 39 - North 68 Best players Lucy Simpson and Zoe Parham A Reserve - Yes girls, FINALLY!! Super proud of all of you for the 4 consistent quarters you played to get the win. Rach and Tayla combined well all day to confuse space and create plenty of turnovers. Chels just kept at it and turned the ball over for us at critical times. Anna played a solid 4 quarters both in attack and defence. Leish grew with confidence all game and was a vital link with our goalies. Jas and Claire worked for each other and were strong targets all game. Very pleased to have you back on the winners list. Keep working and building!! West 61 – North 49 Best players Claire Hunter and Jasmine Davey A Grade - It was a high scoring game and I thought for most part, we played a smart game. We continued to create those little turnovers from all over the court which we were able to convert. Very happy with how we are playing. West 81- North 61 Best players Sarah Ritter and Lisa McGregor This weekend we travel to Millicent to take on the saints. Good luck to all our teams. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE RED AND THE BLUE! GO WEST!!

15 & Under A East 33 won against South 23 The girls played extremely well today a cohesive team game across all 4 quarters. Ellie and Sharni played a dominant game in attack with the feeding help into the circle of Abby and Lily. Whilst the defence end in Skye, Cedar and Tahlia shut down South’s attack line. Whilst we got off to a slow start, had quite a few changes and were trailing behind in the first we showed that we could remain calm, go back to basics and play a clean team game which is all that we can ask. Best players – Sharni Clark & Cedar Scott. Award winners – Abby Lines (Boost Juice) & Ellie Chittleborough (Bakers Delight).
A Reserve East 50 won against South 35 You girls have really started to work so well as a unit. We had a few positional changes that everyone adjusted to quickly and put together a good 60mins. Some small errors made as we got tired but nothing that can't be ironed out come finals. Well done! Best players –Renee Henke sponsored by Red Swamp Holdings & Teagan Gray - sponsored by John Podgorski. Award winners – Brooke 15 & Under B Hicks (Jens Hotel) & Renee Henke East 24 lost to South 33 A tough game today, south came out (Boost Juice). firing and unfortunately we weren’t able to come away with a win. With a B Grade couple out and/or unwell to play East 22 lost to South 44 Our side had players away, unwell back to back games with that level of and injured but still had a great start intensity was still more than we to the game, sticking with South and could ask. We kept a level head and only being down by 3 at the first didn’t get frustrated which showed a break. Unfortunately, we couldn’t level of maturity and experience not keep up that momentum and they always found in junior teams. We’ll ran away with it. But well done on dig deep and see what we can bring continuing to play with discipline next week. and determination. With only 4 Best players – Skye Wilson & Sharni games left, let’s just enjoy playing Clark. Award winners – Mia Young ( Fa st a Pa sta ) & C e d a r S c o tt the game with love and have fun! Award winners – Vespa Scott Gaffney - sponsored by Lake City (OK Pie Shop) & Isana Mee (Hungry Jack’s) Transport (San Piero). 17 & Under East 27 lost to South 43 One of our better games for the season. Everyone did their bit today and this showed in our game. He had 3 great quarters where our work rate and focussed was superb. Just didn’t hold onto this for the 4th quarter, which resulted in the score blowing out that bit. Overall our passing, defence, shooting and mid court all worked really well. it was lovely to see some determination and desire. maybe it was the core work that we did at training. keep working at it girls. Best players – Indi Dwyer & Jordan Davis. Award winners – Sophie Drew (Boost Juice) & Indi Dwyer (McDonalds).
11 & Under East 14 lost to South 33 Our girls got off to a good start this week, with a very challenging first 3 quarters with some excellent goals scored and some great plays, resulting in us being very even scoring with south. unfortunate it was our passing choices that less us down this week and the South girls played a strong constant game with the final score leading them to the win. Well done girls, keep striving. Best players – Lexi Meyer & Ruby Cook. Award winners – Lexi Meyer (Boost Juice) & Ruby Cook (Wendy’s)
Casterton-Sandford
Round 12 saw the Cats girls taking on Millicent for the last time in the round games this season. Being at Island Park unfortunately didn’t have the home ground advantage hoped for. SENIORS: The A grade despite playing exceptionally well, lost 40-75. Players of the match were Scarlett, Ebany & Charlotte. The A Reserve girls were on fire in the first quarter, entering the break in front, however despite Trictia & Chloe’s accuracy, Brydie’s speed through the midcourt, and Claire’s defensive efforts, they weren’t able to stay on top and lost 59-76.
Blue, White & Red JUNIORS: The determination seen in the Under 15A’s & B’s was amazing, as each girl set out to fulfill their rolls assigned by coaches. Chelsea, Indi & Matilda brought the best of our juniors skills in the A’s, however they unfortunately couldn’t match the Millicent side, losing 22-53. The B’s were unsuccessful in the finishing score line 10-56, however the turnovers made by Hannah, Matilda & Caitlyn should definitely be taken home as small wins. Ylana, Rachel, Adele & Ella were vital players in holding Millicent to as minimal goals as possible in the Under 13A’s, but unable to stop their quick additions to the scoreboard, they lost 3-70.
Emma, Eilidh, Tammy & Annalee led the B Grade team into a toughfought game that put their skills to the test. Showing some great passages of play, but not quite able to execute, the girls unfortunately lost 38-59.
We saw a close, well-matched & high intensity game in the Under 13B’s last week. Finishing with a losing score line of 20-28, was not a reflection of our girls courage as they battled for each ball, in particular Marlee, Ylana, Nicole & Phoebe. Our C Grade team were out of luck this week going down 20-61. Brittany, Marissa, Caitlin & Janine Under 11 players Ruby & Cleo all held their heads high, never demonstrated what real talent is failing to continue encouraging in their game today. Despite coming second best to Millicent their teammates. 12-26, all the girls played to the With the only win for the day, the best of their abilities. Under 17’s in Ivy, Indi, Ebany & Makayla had to put their skills to the test & everything on the line, to get their team the 43-41 win in a thrilling nail-biting game.
With now only four rounds left before finals make sure to wish our girls good luck, and keep your fingers crossed for them as they strive to crack or remain in the top four.
