West Gambier and Casterton Sandford arrive at Malseed Park determined to regain the 2019 finals spots they lost last year. The Cats have landed some big signatures on and off the field and could unveil a fresh new playing style which coach Kane Forbes hopes can guide him to a maiden A Grade win. Former Geelong premiership player and Casterton local Max Rooke will be the head of strategical analysis, planning and development. Adding to the Cats' team sheet that was depleted by injuries last year is Billy Galpin, Cody Ireland, Jack Thompson, Jesse Walker-Gould, Edmund Pritchard, Alister Bright and Josh Currie. With more depth and reserves in Casterton Sandford's armory expect the likes of Dylan Ayton and Diarmid Cleary to fight with even more confidence and belief. After hardly taking a step last summer, the Cats have a full preseason under their belts and could be a very different force. “Through limited opportunities over the last few years we were really eager to get back on track and kicked off in November,” Casterton Sandford coach Kane Forbes said. “We started on a new game plan and did everything possible to be in the best possible shape for round 1. “I think we are building towards something special that could stand up for a long period of time.” Enjoying the home ground advantage are the Roos, who could face a bit of a scare as they adjust to life without Tom Holmes, Steve Wenman, Todd Lewis and Dwayne Phillips. Younger faces such as Brayden Olds and Tom Nieuwerkerk will be given more of the limelight to help out stars such as last year's Western player of the year Lawry Bradley-Brown A lot of attention will be focused on Daron McElroy, who will move the markers for the first time and looks to make an impression against what could be a rejuvenated Cats side. He believes he has the foundations to start building on a new and successful era for the club which starts this Saturday at Malseed Park. “My approach is about looking at the future of the club,” McElroy said. “It is not a one year thing, I want to build the club over a couple of years and see what happens. “If we can keep most of these kids we can do some special things soon.” W i t h s o m u c h uncertainty, anything can happen and usually does in the opening round.

Hi All footy is back, We have had a few players leave for the city this year as all clubs have had and that dreaded C Word has impacted us like all other clubs. We are looking forward to the players getting on the park under the guidance of first time senior coach Daron McElroy (Roo) who has embraced it and hit the ground running. He has done a tremendous job and managed most of the football department himself while I been offline. He has grabbed the Young roo boys and is teaching them the hard way about senior football. Some exciting times for the Roos this year and beyond with our young side so sit back and enjoy these kids grow for what we all are building for.

round 1 first for a long time. Wenmo retired and handed his Jumper onto Ethan Giddings.
Rowan fox has hung up the boots and straight into coaching and guiding the 18s this Year. Scary thought with Foxy coaching the 18s and so much can happen with this group so they better hold onto there hats and enjoy the ride. Foxy retired and handed his jumper on last year to Reece Cowling. Another late retirement was Tom Holmes, He toyed with the idea of retiring last year and then got himself half keen to play again before deciding to retire. His service to the club has been enormous and finishing runner up in the Best and fairest shows the quality in the bloke. Holma has a heart of Gold and gives so much to the players and club. Holma retired and handed his Jumper to Aden Pfitzner.
Nathan Lewis is taking the ressies again and is hoping to go a bit higher this year and Rowan fox is coaching the 18s. Michael Minuzzo is coaching with Dale Robbins the 16s and Jamie Croker has saved me and Also don't forget many hands coaching the 14s. make light work. ROUND PREVIEW MILLICENT V SOUTH GAMBIER There is no reason to think Millicent won't be the compe on pacese ers in 2022 and while they have lost the quality of Lucy Denton in the mid court and the ability to u lise Sophie Elis, who was a great swing player when required, the Saints s ll have quality in every area of the court. Tabatha Sanderson will dominate under the post, while the smarts of Demi Verbena will see her not only feed her shoo ng partner with precision but also her accuracy from long range and ability to create space. Their task will be made easier by the re rement of Brandi Bouchier and the fact South's other key defender Ellie Bouchier will also be missing in round one. The makeshi South defensive line will also be challenged by the speed of ball from the Saints mid court featuring Paige Nitschke and Lisa Duldig and so much will fall to some of the new faces in the Demons mid court, including Megan Reid and Tully McShane to put as much pressure on the feed as possible. At the other end of the court, Millicent has a strong defensive group with Hannah Nitschke, Por a McRae and the returning Kimmi Tincknell. All three are ght checking defenders who also happily leave their opponent to find intercept ball elsewhere on the court and South will need to work the ball with pa ence into the shoo ng circle. Lara Munro had a great breakout season in 2021 and will be looking to build on that in the shoo ng circle for the Demons, while Alyssa Duncan will be a key at the a acking end of the court, whether shoo ng or feeding. Grace Edwards returns and her ability to swing either end will be cri cal all season but especially in this clash with key South personnel missing. It is hard to see anything but a Saints victory but the Demons will be looking to compete every step of the way as they look to develop and build across the season.
EAST GAMBIER V NORTH GAMBIER Easily the match of the round as the reigning premiers take on the side that has probably suffered the most off season player losses in the compe on. The Bulldogs are entering their premiership d efe n c e w i t h o u t t wo o f t h e i r 2 0 2 1 premiership stars – Tenille Gray and Lisa Fyfe – but co-coaches Emily Hunter and Bo Creek have been helped by the return of Sarah Lock and Morgan Amy to the club. It is certainly no mean feat to try and fill the considerable hole le by Gray and Fyfe, who are both associa on best & fairest winners but having those roles filled by experienced campaigners who are no stranger to McDonald Park will certainly help what could have been a difficult transi on. 2021 premiership players Amryn Bosko, Tarsh McCallum, Tyne Bosko, Hunter and Creek will be the backbone of this team and given they are a more se led line-up than te new look Tigers, they should start their tle defence with a win. North s ll has Caroline Wakefield (Davey) under the post and any team with a target that strong and a shooter that accurate will always be in the hunt. Mel Renko is always a key to the Tigers' fortunes and her leadership will be even more important in 2022, whether she patrols the mid court or heads back to the defensive circle, while Brianna Walters will also be cri cal with her class and composure in the mid court. A Reserve premiership coach from last season Amanda O'Shaughnessy has taken on the top grade coaching role for 2022 and she will also be cri cal on court with her leadership and versa lity. No doubt, with so many new faces, which also includes players the quality of Alycia Pitson (Close), it will take the Tigers some me to finetune their on court chemistry so the more se led look of the Bulldogs should get them over the line.
WEST GAMBIER V C A ST E RTO N SANDFORD West Gambier con nued to challenge every season and with only one significant player loss – hard working wing defender Nikiesha Facey – they are one of the most se led lineups at the start of the 2022 season. With SA State representa ve Sarah Ri er and Lisa McGregor in goals and Amy Cram and Jade Ri er crea ng a strong defensive combina on at the other end of the court, West has each end of the court well and truly covered. The mid court is also full of quality and speed with Tara Bryant and Carlee Ransom, and the Roos have a wealth of young talent that will also challenge for an on court role, including Claire Hunter, Zoe Malseed and Mikaela Horrigan, giving West arguably the deepest playing list in 2022, with the expecta on perhaps, of Millicent. Much like East Gambier, Casterton Sandford has some returning faces to their line-up as first me A Grade coach Jodie Humphries looks to blend the youth and experience at her disposal into a compe ve unit. Madalene Cleary returns from an ACL injury and will add strength to either end of the court, while Gaby Tomkins, a hard running, tenacious mid courter, returns from having a baby and she will be a welcome addi on alongside the ever reliable Scarle Jarrad. Young defender Claire Foster will be even be er with a year of A Grade netball under her belt and Ebany Jarrad will no doubt earn her opportuni es as well a er a strong 2021 debut season when she made the most of her call ups. Caeleigh Humphries brings athle cism to her role in the defensive circle and she might even be able to translate those skills to the mid court, with the Cats also looking to unveil some brand new faces. The Roos certainly start favourite, given how similar the line-up is to their 2021 team but the Cats will be a watch as the season progresses and the new look A Grade line-up can start to gel as a combina on.

MILLICENT
Millicent Red, Black & White
The Saints were oh so close to maintaining their impressive premiership run in the 2021 decider but in the end East broke through for a drought breaking victory. The bad news for Millicent's opponents is that line-up has only lost Lucy Denton, who was a star in the mid court and earned a team of the year nod in 2021, but have welcomed back Kimmi Tincknell giving them some extra defensive bite and also the chance to unleash Hannah Nitschke into the mid court if required. Tabatha Sanderson is no shorter at goal shooter and Demi Verbena brings smarts, speed and long range accuracy as her shooting partner. Paige Nitschke has adapted well to the attacking wing and it still a quality shooting back up, while Lisa Duldig remains one of the most admired mid courters in the competition and her leadership continues to be the best in the competition. Tincknell, Hannah Nitschke, who blossomed as a circle defender in 2021, matching it with some of the best players in the league, who happen to wear that goal attack bib, along with teenage sensation Portia McRae make for a impressive defensive trio. McRae stepped in at the last minute for the 2021 season and her progression was as impressive as any player thrown into that situation and
V
given she was so young, it made her efforts against the likes of Caroline Davey, Sarah Ritter and Amryn Bosko even more praise worthy and if she takes an other step in her development, life is going to be tough for every goal shooter in the competition. Tantanoola's Georgia Clark will be part of the A Grade squad, while tenacious teenage mid courter Daisy Tunkin will not doubt earn her opportunities and State representative Annelise Janssen adds depth to the shooting circle.
South Gambier
Softball star Tanya Hood is bringing her relentless competitiveness to the South Gambier A Grade coaching role and with Brandi Bouchier by her side assisting, there is no doubt South Gam bier will be a well prepared line-up in 2022. Of course not having Brandi Bouchier on court leaves a hole – she has been the Demons best, along with Imogen Walker, who will be but a fill in when home from Adelaide in the 2022 season, When you add to that the loss of 2021 captain and tenacious defender and mid courter and the Demons will again be an unexperienced line-up. The good news is there is a Bouchier who will be on court and Brandi's daughter Ellie is an athletic defender who settled in well in 2021 and should take another step in her development in 2022.
Red & White
in the mid court, with Hannah Witherow also able to take on all three mid court roles, while the likes of Mykaela Thiele can add strength to the defensive end if required. It will be another development year for the Demons but they loom as a much more competitive unit and should only improve as the season progresses.
At the other end of the court Alyssa Duncan and Lara Munro know how to hold their own in the shooting circle and have developed a strong understanding with each other. Grace Edwards is the X factor and her ability to play both ends of the court will be critical for the Demons, while Megan Reid has had her time on the A Grade court in the past two seasons and she adds class and hard running to the mid court.
Tabatha Sanderson
South also has the always consistent Tully McShane to run through all three positions
Ellie Bouchier
East Gambier Red & Black
A stunning overtime victory in the 2021 title decider sees East Gambier as the hunted in the 2022 season and at a glance there are two key losses for the reigning premiers but some returning faces mean they will still be there when the whips are cracking. In the 2021 Western Border Netball Association, East Gambier players filled the top three positions of the A Grade best & fairest count and two of those are no longer at the club or living in Mount Gambier for that matter. Any side that loses players the calibre of Tenille Gray and Lisa Fyfe will have some work to do. Gray has been peerless in the goal attack position in the competition for three years and Fyfe provided to be the X factor for the Bulldogs with her ability to create turnover ball.
Gray and Fyfe are not easily replaced but the Bulldogs will still be among the contenders for the 2022 title.
The Tigers are arguably the most decimated of all the A Grade line-ups with star goal keeper Maddie Whaites gone, Noni McConnell sidelined with pregnancy, hard working goal attack Ellen Brown off at university and Tenielle Barry and Lauren Buddle, who injured her Achilles in the 2021 season, also gone from Vansittart Park.

The Tigers also have a raft or rising young talent. Brianna Walters and Mel Renko remain from the 2021 preliminary final line-up and they bring quality to the mid court, with Renko perhaps even moving back to the defensive circle to add some leadership and tenacity to the defensive end.
But the good news for Bulldogs fans is there are two returning Bulldogs that will certainly be hungry to be a part of a successful era. Sarah Lock spent some time at Penola and having a baby but her long range accuracy will bring a new dimension to the East shooting circle as she looks to build some chemistry with star teenage shooter A m r y n B o s ko, w h o wa s adjudged best on court in the 2021 title decider. Morgan Amy has been a tenacious defender for as long as she has been playing the

game and after a season at Port MacDonnell is back to team up with her Bulldog mates to try and successfully defend the 2021 title. Add to that the premiership contingent of Tyne Bosko, Tarsh McCallum, who will return as skipper, and cocoaches Emily Hunter and Bo Creek and East still has a quality line-up that now knows what it takes to be the best in the competition. Kate Dempsey is also a critical part of this line-up. Her consistency and work ethic have seen her make an impact every time she has been called into the A Grade line up over the past couple of seasons.
North Gambier
Sarah Lock
Ashlee Kalantarian has returned to the club after an absence and she is another experienced performer who can add depth to the mid court or even in the shooting circle, while some of the 2021 A Reserve premiership stars, headlined by Alycia Pitson, will not be out of place in the top

Casterton-Sandford
Another club with a new face at the helm, the Cats have Jodie Humphries in the A Grade coaching role and the new coach is grateful to be welcoming back some talent from seasons past, especially when it brings some experience to the Casterton Sandford lineup.
Madalene Cleary returns from an ACL injury and there is no better returning player in any club of the competition than Cleary. She is a heart and soul player at the Cats and from a pure netball point of view she is a tenacious competitor who can get the job done at either end of the court. Gaby Tomkins, returning from having a baby, is another quality returnee. She is hard running and smart and will add quality to the mid court. Speaking of heart and soul and Scarlett Jarrad immediately springs to mind and after carrying such an inexperienced line-up in 2021, she will enjoy having Tomkins by her side and will bring her usual physical and unrelenting competitive spirit to every contest. Having impressed in 2021, Claire Foster will only improve as a circle defender in 2022 and she is tarred with the same brush as Scarlett Jarrad and has that never say die attitude. Charlotte Rice has earned her call up to the to grade and as a rising teenage star she will be the main target in the Cats shooting circle, while star

recruit Laura Schultz adds experience and smarts to the Cats shooting stocks. Another new face at Island Park is Nhill recruit Tessa Marra, who is a genuine utility that can take any bib and have an impact, while Caeleigh Humphries has already announced herself in the top grade and her athleticism and ability to read the play will be vital at the defensive end and maybe even in the mid court. 17 & Under players Ebany Jarrad and Makayla Hutchins both had a taste of A Grade action in 2021 and give the Cats some depth. Jarrad was impressive in circle defence, while Hutchins has speed to burn in the mid court and it would be no surprise to see either of them force their way into regular appearances with the Cats A Grade team.
