GAME PREVIEW Millicent v South Gambier The football world does not stop spinning and after the biggest news week of the year, players must get all the distractions out of their heads to get the job done in round 11 of the 2021 Bendigo Bank Western Border Football League season. After the historic meeting between the entire L i m e s t o n e C o a s t fo o t b a l l a n d n e t b a l l community, all sorts of suggestions of new combined football leagues are being thrown around the region, but Millicent and South Gambier must remain focussed on their huge clash at McLaughlin Park. There is plenty of hype around the contest as the undefeated Demons could face their biggest challenge yet. The Saints are South’s nearest challenger on the ladder and will be buoyed by their recent form. The last time these two teams met saw Millicent push the WBFL’s dominant force to the ragged edge. Back in round 5 the Saints showed their skills during a fast-paced opening half and they even led at the main break. However, the Demons’ process proved overwhelming for the opposition again as precise ball movement and a six-goal effort from coach Brayden Kain pushed the side to another victory. But it was just one poor quarter which proved costly for Millicent and since the promising, but disappointing result, it has maintained its form. The Saints marched onto the field from the midseason break in ominous style by knocking over East Gambier in a high-scoring shootout. The standout performer was undoubtably Gene Robinson, who banged home 13 majors, but a number of youngsters also impressed in a display of the club’s depth. Now with the home-ground advantage in his favour, Millicent coach Clint Gallio has many reasons to believe. South also shown it has not lost any momentum over the break by pumping Casterton Sandford by triple figures. The Demons had to overcome a spirited first

North Gambier Yellow & Black It was good to be back to the footy after interleague and an enforced Covid break. At the time of writing this, the border restrictions are planned to have been lifted, enabling us to host Casterton Sandford at Vansittart Park and hopefully we can continue on and complete the season without further disruption. Congratulations to all involved in the WBFL interleague successes, especially the North players who figured prominently in the best players across all grades. Special mention to Nick McInerney who was voted best player in the seniors – it’s great to see Nick getting well deserved recognition outside the club in the last few years.

Today we welcome Casterton We had a very competitive day at Malseed Park and it was good to see some old Westies about celebrating their 1971 and 2011 premierships. Despite a nasty looking hand injury to Sam Stafford during the game, the seniors pulled away as the match went on to score a convincing win, not helped by the 15 points scored. Tom McLennan was on fire early and got us off to a good start with his 3 goals, other best players were Austin Kitschke, Mitch Whan, Nick Moretti, Nick McInerney and Jake Schutz. Fair to say the reserves are yet to ‘c l i c k ’ t h i s s e a s o n , w i t h a comprehensive loss on the weekend and plenty to work on.

Millicent Red, Black & White Each of us has been in awkward situa ons at least once in our lives. L u c k i l y, t h i s u n p l e a s a nt a n d shameful feeling doesn't s ck around for long, especially a er realising that everyone finds themselves in these types of situa ons. As it turns out, awkward moments aren't always all that bad!! For instance I've seen Ange open up a new Nivea moisturiser cream and lick the foil, turns out it’s not as tasty as yoghurt. Spud Murphy trying to capture a funny photo with a sheep wearing his glasses, so if you meet a sheep in ray-ban shades ge ng around you know why... My eldest brother was at a park when an old lady loudly screamed o u t , " A nyo n e w h o wa n t s a n icecream come over here" So he headed over with several others, she handed out paddle pops to them all, then asked him "who are you" then he realised the rest were all her family, 30 years later he s ll cringes. Hound Ferguson years ago once said he got into a taxi and asked to get dropped off 5 km away. At the end of the journey when he went to pay, he realised it wasn't a taxi. I've been in a taxi with him and he never pays so I find this story a bit flawed. And for the young ones I bet you have all done this. You are stalking someone’s profile on social media, but you accidentally like a post from over a year ago. The instant your finger accidentally touches the screen, your heart drops from out of your body; Think of this moment happening with your crush A er you commit this shameful act, you immediately think of a way to recover. Like liking all their posts... Big crush on the way Gene Machine is travelling, kicking 13 big ones in the Saints 31-point victory over East. In a best on ground performance, he was unstoppable. Down the other end of the ground Billy and Zac were defending brilliantly. Grimes controlling the Ruck with Clint making great work of his taps. Frazer Bradley kicked 3 in a polished performance in a game where all contributed. Ressies had a hard ba le against 4th placed East, not playing the greatest of games they s ll held on to win by 19 points. Was a scrappy affair but few players stood out all game. Angus wa s a ack on the footy in his new role as a forward was good to watch. Gizzy backed up his last goal since the 2018 grand final with

another against East in the ressies to seal the win. Cal McGrath put together another 4-quarter game racking up disposals at will. Other top performers were new dad Reills, Ma Withers and Joey. Go Saints Making my mark The Appren ce Under 18s with Billy Shanks on fire e a r l y h a d a b i g w i n ove r a n undermanned East side, Aus n Fuller was Best on and played his best game for the year so far, finished with 2 majors. Hainsey, Bill, Ty, Varcs and Dunny rounded out be er players. Goals to Cush 4, Bill 3, Varcs and Aussie 2, Jed, Nick and Riley Redway 1 each. The 16s had a solid team win against East a er making South Gambier hard work in the fog thru the week. Deany wanted the lads to show a bit more and they stepped up with Shanksy BOG. he was followed closely by Eli, Snowy in a return to form, Wezza who is going very nicely, Dan Hately was solid all game and Brodie Sims found his Mojo… Goals to Shanksy 4, Eli 3, Wez and Kobe 2, Simsy and Snowy with 1 apiece. The 14s had a narrow loss on Wed night against South but backed up and had a decent win 40-21 against East with Best players Kobe, Je , Dyl Sigo, Thwaitsey, Will Wilson and Charlie Damhuis. Goals this week to Kobe 2, Je , William and Campbell Hateley 1 each. Awards to William Bohlin and Cooper Todd 12 A defeated East 70-30 with be er players Oakley, Isabelle, Henry, Cur s, Liam, Klaye and Naite. Ryder had a big day out with 6 snags, Lenny with 3, Oakley 2 and Naite 1. U12C Be er players this week were Tait Grge c, Campbell McMullan, Colby Watson, Axel Joyce, Arlie Sims and Thomas Lowe. Goals to Tait 2, Ryder Stra ord, Arlie, Brax Thomas, Levi Robbins and Colby 1 each. Awards to Thomas Lowe and Tait Cameron. U8 Best players, Jed Sunderland, Dexter Ross and Summer Ross. Awards went to Tully Robinson, L a c h l a n M u r p hy a n d H a m i s h Damhuis. Huge Thankyou to All Our Coaches and Managers and game volunteers so far this year, Keep up the hard work, It is deeply appreciated. Thankyou also to our sponsors and game day award donors each week!!

For the first time ever we played a home game at Island Park, Casterton. Covid has made us do a lot of strange things, in the end it was more important to play footy.
Red & White Lots of talk this week about future league structures. I urge everyone to keep an open mind and look for what is best for the game in future. Change is the one constant we can rely on.
Well done to both Casterton Sandford junior teams for sticking Good luck all teams and players at it in a long season. The U14s had this week. a competitive game with Scarlet Creek showing she can play footy as well as she plays State hockey. Isaac Bouchier, Noah Maxwell, Darcy Landon and Will Attiwill also starred. The U16 White team went on their merry way with a good win. Best players were Joel Bryant, Wil Vaughan, Fletcher Lawson, Conor Fielding, Cayde Watson and Anton Circelli. The reserves team showed why they are top with a comprehensive victory, playing well all over the ground. Emerson Marks put his name up for senior selection, Nick Seager and Luke Foran dominated the clearances, Adam Kuhl marked everything, Chris Fallas ran amok and Riley Sturges was impassable. The senior margin belied the competitiveness and toughness of the game, we always know the win will be hard earned against Casterton Sandford. Dozer kicked 5 goals and best players were Jake Tentye, Jack Casey, Brock Keding, Dan Handreck, Kym Eagleson and Dion Stratford.

East Gambier Red & Black Good morning, good afternoon and hello everyone. I hope you all had a great week. I'm still seeing a 5 foot 11 tattooed man in my sleep. I'm not sure who it is but after going down to Millicent last week I've had nightmares all week. I'm not sure if it's the size of the super snags which have now been made to the length of your arms. Or the fact Gene the machine Robinson decided to show us all his bag of tricks.
Mouse cup racing on the 3rd of July so book your table at the bar or buy online for your tickets. Good luck to all the coaches this week and thank you for all for your efforts so far this year.
Well done to Millicent in all there footy grades they were just to Go Dogs strong. I believe the only highlight for the day was the final siren in the A grade. But in footy there is always next week. So this week all the grades will be looking at feasting on some Roo for lunch. With rain expected
V
the fires will be lit and the presidents club show on inside the kennel will hopefully warm people up. With only a few games left at East please support the red n black.
West Gambier
What a great weekend was had by all last weekend. Unfortunately not all results went our way with the Under 14's and Seniors suffering loses, however a great win in the Under 16's cements their place in the top 4, a draw in the Under 18's and then the B Grade having a strong win over a North side that has dominated the competition in recent years, certainly makes for a good future at the Club.
It was a tremendous day socially for West Gambier with the 1971, 2010 & 2011 Premiership reunions taking place with many familiar faces getting back to the Club to enjoy the day. The evening function was well attended and it was great to listen to the stories and anecdotes from the past players and coaches and to t r u l y u n d e rsta n d w h at We st Gambier means to so many past players.
Blue & Red position on the ladder. This could well be the last time we play at McDonald Park as I have it on good authority that Azza has made a pitch to the Tasmanian Premier over a Snitty Parma at Jens, to become the 19th team in the AFL based out of Hobart!!! No matter what happens moving forward, the local football landscape looks like it will have some changes and as long as we are all in it for the betterment of Football and Netball then I'm sure we will all be a part of a strong and sustainable competition in the future. Good luck to all teams this weekend. Cheers, Blocka
Onto this week where we head back to the kennel to take on East for 4th

FOOTY JENS HOTEL
WITH Although a premiership proved out of reach, there is no doubting the presence the Anderson brothers left on the football field at the Kennel and Nick was the general of the East Gambier backline. The one club player wore the number one guernsey with pride on more than 200 occasions across the first decade of the 21st century. Anderson remains well entrenched at McDonald Park coaching his sons in the juniors, who continue a long family tradition with Nick’s fatherin-law Bill Downs a club legend. He said East Gambier will always be a major part of his life. “It is my second family and it feels like home I guess,” Anderson said. “I have been going there every Saturday in the winter ever since my pop used to take me.” Also being a diehard Essendon fan, Anderson lived and breathed everything red and black and started playing for the Bulldogs in Under 12’s coached by Robbie Ransom. Anderson was in line to take the next step and play for Glenelg, but that chance literally went up in flames. “I was supposed to play for Glenelg one weekend, but on the Thursday I had an accident at trade school,” he said. “Someone was welding behind me and I caught on fire. “My whole arm got blistered up with second degree burns so I could not play.” Sadly, his bad luck with grand finals also started at an early age with an Under 1 4 ’s d e c i d e r a ga i n s t S o u t h G a m b i e r particularly difficult to swallow. “It was challenging because we were up against some really good junior players and
ANDERSON

MATCH REPORTS CASTERTON SANDFORD V SOUTH GAMBIER There were mes where the Cats dared to dream of providing 300 game star Scarle Jarrad a victory on the day she celebrated the impressive milestone but it was not to be as South Gambier, who had travelled to Island Park, despite it being a South home game, were able to hold on. The damage was done in the opening quarter where Grace Edwards and Lara Munro combined to convert 19 from 21 as the Cats struggled for supply, courtesy of some strong defensive work from Brandi Bouchier, Ellie Bouchier, Georgia Duncan and Renee Pluckhahn. It saw the Demons nine goals clear at the first break and a er that, the Cats con nued to challenge but just could not bridge the gap, going down by seven goals. Goal defender Caeleigh Humphries, fresh from coming on in the second half of the 2021 South Australian Country Championships 17 & Under grand final and securing plenty of cri cal turnover ball, again was the key to the Cats’ resurgence a er quarter me. She hunted the Demons cross court balls and managed to be disrup ve in the circle to get important touches that were mopped up by her young team mates, Ebany Jarrad and Claire Foster, and at mes it looked like she just might singlehandedly li her team to a breakthrough victory. The Cats won the second and third quarters but just couldn’t make a big enough dent in the deficit to put some scoreboard pressure on the Demons and heading into the final quarter it was a seven goal deficit. It was an arm wrestle in the last, with both teams earning a similar amount of possession and in the end, the Demons held on – the height of Edwards under the post proving too difficult to combat for the Cats. Tori Broomby was the general of the a ack line and playing on both the a acking wing and in the shoo ng circle, she worked hard with Paige Murrell, Charlo e Rice and Scarle Jarrad to make the most of every scoring opportunity. Her pinpoint delivery and accurate finishing on the shot proved cri cal from the coach as she kept her side in touch a er the lacklustre opening quarter. In the end, the Demons had Brandi Bouchier crea ng turnover ball at one end and Munro working hard and finishing accurately finishing at the other end and it was enough to secure their second win of the season. MILLICENT V EAST GAMBIER The top of the table clash again went the way of undefeated East Gambier but the Saints did work their way a li le closer, welcoming Tabatha Sanderson back onto the court for the first me since these sides
last clashed and Sanderson injured her hand. Missing Tyne Bosko, the East Gambier wing defender s ll recovering from a collision with her East Gambier team mate Lisa Fyfe at the June Long Weekend Country Championships, Kate Dempsey earned the star ng role, with the more experience Chloe Perryman making her A Grade debut in the second half. The opening quarter set the scene for a nailbiter with East going into the first break leading by only one goal and Sanderson, having converted 12 from 12, looked set to perhaps be the difference. The second quarter saw the Bulldogs earn more possession and with Tenille Gray working her way into the contest, ne ng 19 from 11, the lead was five at the main break. Tarsh McCallum’s connec on with her shooters – Amryn Bosko showing her usual composure conver ng 17 from 19 in the first half – was cri cal as she hit the circle’s edge hard and always chose the best op on when looking to deliver ball into the goal circle. Both sides swung the changes at the main break, Perryman entering the game at wing defence and Emily Hunter and McCallum swapping roles, with McCallum taking the centre bib. Millicent also rejigged both its offensive line - Paige Nitschke moved into goal a ack and Demi Verbena took her wing a ack bib. The third quarter was basically a goal for goal ba le as both sides adjusted quickly to their new line-ups and li le separated the two but the issue for the Saints was they were unable to eat into the deficit and went into the final quarter seven goals in arrears. This me it was the defensive end that saw the changes with Por a McRae entering the clash in goal keeper – another 17 & Under SA Championship winning player who was coming off a stellar grand final on the long weekend – and Hannah Nitschke moving out to goal defence, with Lisa Duldig moving from wing defence to centre, swapping roles with Lucy Denton. Again the changes were quickly adjusted to and while Millicent were matching it with the top ranked Bulldogs, the Saints just couldn’t find a way to win back enough ball to reduce East’s advantage. In the end the final margin was eight – East maintaining its top of the ladder posi on and, arguably , more importantly, belief they are the 2021 benchmark, while the Saints will go back to the drawing board to make some more tweaks to their game plan ready for the nest clash between the two powerhouse teams.
WEST GAMBIER V NORTH GAMBIER Nothing really separated West Gambier and North Gambier at the weekend, with the Tigers reversing the first round result, securing a three goal victory. It was always going to be a ba le of supply with both sides boas ng the two most inform shooters in the compe on – Sarah Ri er (West) and Caroline Davey (North). West led by three goals at the first break and five at the half, before the Tigers put in a massive third quarter, turning that half me deficit into a three goal lead. It proved a decisive quarter as Davey ne ed 14 from 14, rewarding her team mates for their improved defensive efforts, and while West worked their back in the final quarter, the 14-all scoreline ensured the Tigers le with the premiership points. While Davey’s conversion was cri cal, the work out front by Ellen Brown was also cri cal as she used her pace to great effect, either drawing a defender with her front cut to open up the space at the post for Davey or delivering the ball herself with some crea ve and accurate feeds. At the other end, Maddie Whaites made life tough for Sarah Ri er, who while she was accurate in her finishing, arguably needed more ball to be as influen al as Davey. Sarah Ri er shots 13 straight in the opening quarter and ne ed 21 from 26 for the remainder of the contest as Whaites worked some important touches but also hunted the ball outside the circle to stop the ball before the young Roos shooter could be a factor. Lisa McGregor again stepped up her output in terms of goals, while Nikeisha Facey played her role on the defensive wing as she made life tough for the Tigers feeders, trying to deny easy access to the dangerous Davey. The two teams have arguably not been more evenly matched in recent seasons and given they have another minor round clash to go and poten ally a final, the stage is set to see who can teak their game plan the best to gain an advantage.
ROUND 11 PREVIEWS EAST GAMBIER V WEST GAMBIER West Gambier is coming off a narrow loss to North Gambier and the challenges con nue with the Roos set to head to McDonald Park taking on the undefeated Bulldogs. Every match up is intriguing with the poten al to heavily impact on the final result. Young West shooter Sarah Ri er has been in outstanding form and was again one of her side’s best at the weekend but she will be challenged by East goal keeper Bo Creek, who loves the challenge of the tall shooters and has great agility and aerial ability to make sure Ri er earns every possession. Star East defender Lisa Fyfe takes on one of the hardest working goal a acks in the compe on in Lisa McGregor and this does loom as one of the match shaping ba les. McGregor works high up the court and is the general of the West forward line and she will be looking to limit the ability of Fyfe to create turnover ball by working the ball in tandem with Tara Bryant and Carlee Ransom with speed and precision. The Roos will need to be mindful of the ability of Fyfe to read the play and take the spectacular intercept and certainly will be looking to avoid too much cross court play that is the Bulldogs defender bread and bu er. Bryant and Ransom will have a mountain of work to do, ge ng the ball to McGregor and Ri er in space and it won’t be easy, with Bryant taking on Emily Hunter, who is a strong, hard driving centre, and Ransom set to take on Tyne Bosko, if she has recovered from her Long Weekend injury, or Kate Dempsey or Chloe Perryman, who shared the role in the victory over Millicent in round 10. Nikeisha Facey is coming off one of her best performances of the season and she will again need to be switched on ready to deny easy ball to the dangerous Tarsh McCallum, who uses her speed to great effect and has a great connec on with Tenille Gray amd Amryn Bosko. The East shoo ng duo loom as the hardest to combat in the compe on, given Gray has always been a dominant force and Amryn Bosko has stepped up to share the shoo ng responsibili es. Roos defenders Amy Cram and Jade Ri er will need to be at their best, working in tandem to shut down me and space, if they are to dent the two accurate finishers too much ball.
MILLICENT V SOUTH GAMBIER South Gambier had a great start against Casterton Sandford and then just managed to hold on for a seven goal victory last round, while Millicent is coming off an eight goal loss to East Gambier, meaning both sides will be looking to iron out some wrinkles and put in a four quarter performance. Last me the two met, South took it right up to Millicent but with Tabatha Sanderson back on court and the reigning premiers now building for another lt at a tle in the second half of this season, the Demons look set to face a much tougher Saints line-up. Millicent is s ll working through the best combina ons to put out on court but whichever roles they take on, the defensive unit is unrelen ng in its pressure and willingness to contest. Por a McRae, Hannah Nitschke and Kimmi Tincknell are ght checking defenders who love reading the play and with Lucy Denton and Lisa Duldig adding to that pressure with their mid court defensive efforts, South will need to be careful with ball in hand and be prepared to work over me to find the edge of the circle and their goalers – Lara Munro and Grace Edwards – in space. Renee Pluckhahn has moved into the centre and with the speed of Hannah Witherow, smarts of Imi Walker and the clever delivery of Alyssa Duncan, the Demons have strong op ons to bring the ball through that defensive pressure. The Demons defender certainly kept South in control of their round 10 clash and they will need to be at their best to deny Millicent easy scoring opportuni es. Sanderson provides that tall target and will be be er for the run last weekend, while the speed of ball out the front with Demi Verbena, Paige Nitschke and Denton means the ball will be coming inaccurately and at pace. Brandi Bouchier and Ellie Bouchier will need to be at their best to get those all important touches to create turnover opportuni es but in the end, the Millicent line-up just looks too strong.
NORTH GAMBIER V C A S T E R T O N SANDFORD North Gambier is coming off a hard fought win over West Gambier and start this clash with Casterton Sandford overwhelming favourites. The Cats had an improved showing at the weekend, recovering from a sluggish start to challenge South in every quarter before going down but North is a different proposi on. Tigers shooter Caroline Davey is in outstanding form and con nues to not only shoot the lion’s share of North’s tally but finishes accurately. Her combina on with Ellen Brown con nues to develop, with Brown proving the perfect foil, with her pace and willingness to take the long shot. Brianna Walters and Mel Renko are all class in the midcourt, while defensively, they don’t come much tougher than Maddie Whaites and Noni McConnell, with Tenielle Barry and Lauren Buddle providing the mid court pressure on the defensive wing. The issue for the Cats, is they do not really have the height to compete with Davey – it was how South stayed in control last weekend when they could access Grace Edwards because of her height advantage. Caeleigh Humphries is a talented defender who will look to intercept the ball before it gets as far as Davey, while Claire Foster and Ebany Jarrad will probably both spend me on the tall Tigers shooter and hope the pressure from the mid court will see some inaccurate feeds into Davey, giving them a chance to turn the ball over. Scarle Jarrad is coming off her 300 game celebra on and her hard running and defensive mind set will see her ba le with Renko as one of the best on the day. The a ack line, led by coach Tori Broomby, will need to work hard to unse le the experience Tigers defensive line, with Charlo e Rice and Paige Murrell needing to work together to earn enough ball in range. The Cats con nue to develop but North will be too strong given their superior depth and experience.
It will be another hard fought game with a ght scoreline but it is hard to see East ge ng toppled this weekend.

North went into the Quarter break with a 6goal lead. Both teams were accurate to post and North circle defenders did a great job of forcing the ball to go over the top where they took a number of intercepts. Rebounds were important and both teams were able to get up and take some offensive ones in the second quarter. Half time saw no changes from both sides and North were able to find the circle edge with ease to feed into the strong holding Alisha Bryan. West won the last quarter as North tired and were unable to maintain the ferocious tempo they started with. A convincing win by North and congratulations Alisha Bryan. First of all, thanks to everyone for feeding into the circle, as was Imi being so cooperative with the when she entered the fray at half change in venue and getting all time.. that pesky paperwork filled out... Lara continues to impress and The trip was certainly worthwhile Grace is also developing each week again for our A Grade. Got off to and having a strong target at the flier and held on for their second post is so critical... win of the season... Tough day for the A Reserve but Brandi continues to anchor the kudos to Mykaela, Macca and Mel defence and let's face it - we love w h o r e a l l y w o r k e d h a r d watching her combine with Ellie defensively ... who continues to impress with her ability to place plenty of defensive The B Grade had a great win over pressure... one of the competition's main contenders. Leyna was Always good to see a Duncan in a outstanding in the shooting circle South uniform and Georgia was a and after a quiet first quarter Jimi key part of the defensive pressure, was unstoppable. Maddy was especially in the first quarter when strong onto the circle's edge, while the win was well and truly set up... 15A’s - East 25 lost to Millicent 63 Best Players - Matilda Lamb & Tonique Burford Award Winners - (Douth Eastern) Matilda Lamb (Natural Born Grillers) Indi Dywer (Intersport) Jordan Davis
Millicent put the pressure on East early, finishing the first quarter one goal in front. East managed to tidy up their second quarter and take the lead by 4 goals at half time and overall secured an 8 goal win. Tarsh McCallum was outstanding in the mid court, taking control and setting the pace for East. Amryn Bosko was once again brilliant in the goal circle and both were awarded best players for their efforts.
East Under 15A’s first match back after a three weekend break saw the girls come up against a strong Millicent team. Matilda Lamb and Ambah Beveridge worked hard to find space and hold ground with strength. Due to Keelie Neilson being unavailable, Jordan Davis, Tahlia Geraghty and Bridget Facy played in alternative positions. All three stood up to the challenge and also worked hard to move into space as well as apply pressure when required. Indi Dwyer and Tonique Burford worked well as a defensive team to try to curb the influence of a tall accurate shooter. Both girls contested balls in the goal circle and focused on applying pressure.

Coming off of 3 weeks off due to postponed rounds and byes we knew it was gonna be a tough game to get back into. Having a full team this week the team really stepped up and played so well, we just need to continue to hold onto our good work for whole game as we seem to slip and lose track throughout the last 5 minutes of each quarter. Great game to back into, really good effort by everyone this week! Best players Sharna McKinnon and Casey Horrigan. B Grade - East 22 lost to Millicent 60 Best Players - Erin Hudson & Issy Whaites Award Winners - (Gym Challenge Meals) Becky Grosser (Salts of The Earth) Erin Hudson (San Piero) Megan Wilson We knew coming up against Millicent was going to be another tough game. We were right Millicent came out strong and physical. The girls kept fighting, but our mistakes and poor choices cost the game. Let’s focus on the coming weeks to redeem ourselves, to train and play hard girls. Although we went down by 2 goals, everything we have been working on at training is finally shaping up and showing in our game on court. The girls put up a great fight sticking close to an undefeated Millicent all game. 17s - East 39 lost to Millicent 70 Best Players - Amryn Bosko & Kate Dempsey Award Winners - (Hue Colour) Amryn Bosko (Natural Born Grillers) Lilah Lamb (Dywers Boxing) Izzy Lamb Some really positive signs with our set plays, ball movement, passing and attack. 15B’s - East 24 lost to Millicent 26 Best Players - Millie Button & Tahlia Geraghty Award Winners - (Athletes Foot ) Bridget Facey (Kaboom) Millie Button (Bakers Delight) Lillie Lamb We always knew this game was going to be a tough one. After leading for the first half we had some bad passes that allowed Millicent to intercept too easy and they score from these. Our defensive pressure was good, forcing turnovers, however again soft passes undid our hard work. Bridget lifted her work rate with some great passing and Lillie dorve and created space well. Goof to see you putting into our game the work from trainings. I think not playing for 3 weeks certainly contributed to our loss. lets regroup this week at training and work hard to come out this week and play our better game. 13A’s - East 10 lost to Millicent 64 Best Players - Sharni Clark & Katie Kerr Award Winners - (Fasta Pasta) Charlotte Crute (Scroll Queen) Katie Kerr (KFC) Skye Wilson

Welcome back to netball after the forced COVID break and Country Championships. West Gambier was well represented in the Country Championships. Seniors Jade Ritter and Lisa McGregor claiming the open titles. 17’s coach by our own Lisa McGregor remained undefeated claiming victory with Sarah Ritter, Tara Bryant and Zoe Malseed. In the U15’s we had Leila Croker and her team mates win the championship. The U/15s Development squad which had 5 girls in Charlotte Scott, Ellie Xanthopolous, Lucy Simpson, Imogen McGregor and Aleisha Pearson. The girls narrowly missed out in taking part in the GF – well done girls. The 13’s finished runners up with Ella Jolley and Mikayla Pearson representing the westies. Hayley Cowie was a part of the 13’s development squad who finished in the top 10, we wish Hayley all the best after breaking her arm on the Saturday. Well done to all girls involved and we are all very proud of you.
During the break we also had girls who represented the Lower South East in SAPSASA netball. Well done Makayla, Ella, Miley and Swaye.
The U13Bs had a challenging match against Millicent. With two goalies away on holiday it left a hole in our team. Thank you to the players who stepped in a covered the gaps. The girls fought hard all game in wet wintery conditions. Their desire and their determination to fight for the ball lasted the whole game. They listened to feedback and continue to develop each week. Great moving and getting in front of your players girls. Alex Hudson – 50 Games:
Claire Hunter: 100 Games
Started playing West in 2018 in the Under 11 Side and with 2021 seeing her playing in both our 15B & 15A Teams under the guidance of Amy Cram and Cara Pearson Alex is a respectful hard working player who never gives in! She is always providing options for her team mates and gives 110% every game! She is a fantastic player to coach and a great team mate to all!
Started her playing career with West Gambier in 2013 and had a two year break in 16 & 17 but returned back to West in 2018 in the 15A side and 2021 sees her taking the court with the A Reserve Team.
Girls had a thought game against Millicent. With having a few key players away the girls had to adapt to having new players on court and different combinations. The girls had goals to achieve each quarter which they did well. All girls played well. 13B’s - East 9 lost to Millicent 39 Best Players - Isana Mee & Meah Beveridge Award Winners - (Fasta Pasta) (Red Rooster) (McDonalds)
We didn’t have the most successful day on the courts in round 10, with the 11’s the only team to come away with the win.
Maggy Dyson: 50 Games Started playing with West in 2018 as an Under 11 and 2021 sees her in 13B Team. Maggy has predominantly been playing defence for most of her time at West, she can read the game play very well and can jump for those rebounds, although it's her mid court intercepts that keep you watching. Maggy has recently had a go at the other end of the court and taking herself by surprise she managed to score her team a lot of goals. Maggy has a lot of talent to offer, is a great team player and a good leader.
Claire has played majority of this year in goals but has also played in defence during her time at West. This year she has been consistent and accurate each week playing in goals. Her hold and timing would be her strength in goals. She plays fair and puts in 100% each week at training and during games. Most of these girls in the Ares team have gone through their junior netball together and Claire has been a great team mate to them all. All her previous coaches would say she is a pleasure to coach and always is at training and shows her full commitment towards her team. We wish you all the best in your 100th game for West.

300 GAMES - ALISHA BRYAN
She is not blessed with great height, she is not blessed with great speed and she does not dazzle with a highlight reel of incredible athletic feats but what Alisha Bryan does on a netball court is what every coach wants from every player – she always plays to a high level and she is incredibly consistent. With her distinctive step back on one leg for every shot, Bryan troubles every opponent and baffles every opposition coach. She is a no-fuss player with a poker face, who, as time has gone on over her long career, appears to have no weakness. She has perfected the art of positioning in the shooting circle and her accuracy means she is a constant threat.
Celebrating with a victory was not to b e b u t re st a s s u re d S c a r l e tt celebrated as only she can. Scarlett is a highly respected Western Border A Grade player who has built her reputation on close checking, a strong physical presence and hard running. She does not give an inch on court but greets opponents with a smile after the game, regardless the result. There is no denying she has been the backbone of a Casterton Sandford team that has had its share of challenges while she has been in the top grade but she has led by example, working hard from the first whistle to the last and making sure her opponent never enjoys an easy possession – every possession is earned.
It was in 2001 that Bryan was named in the Western Border team of the year and was joint runner-up in the club best and fairest. It was in her third season of A grade that she experienced the ultimate success with the 2003 A grade premiership.
Ask any coach or opposition circle defender and she is as damaging as any goaler that has played in the co m p e t i t i o n i n t h e p a st t wo decades.
Bryan then played A reserve the following two seasons before spending some time at Mid South East netball club Port MacDonnell. Her return to North Gambier in 2009 saw her return to the top senior grade and she won the club’s best and fairest title in that return season.
Her talent has always been evident since debuting in the 17 & under competition in 1997. She played in that grade for four seasons, finishing runner-up best and fairest at club
Having a family might have slowed down her progress to the 200 game mark but certainly had no effect on her form and in 2014, ’15 and ‘16, she was the club A Reserve best and
SCARLETT JARRAD Tough and uncompromising on the court and a whole lot of fun off it. That is the Scarlett Jarrad modus operandi and it is why the show court at Island Park in round 10 was overrun by footballers and netballers wanting to honour the popular Cat when she clocked up her 300th appearance for Casterton Sandford.
level this first two seasons and then winning the top honour in 1999. In 2000, her final year at junior level, she represented Western Border in the 17 & under team, making her official A grade debut in 2001, despite having already played a number of games in the top senior grade, along with talented teenage team mate Natasha Silvy.
Scarlett started her career at the Cats in 2000 and tasted premiership success as part of the 13 & Under team. It was five years later that she debuted in A Grade and over the years has also played B Grade, when returning from a break, taking out the club best and fairest in 2013. She has been part of the A Grade team for the past few seasons and is the club’s reigning A Grade best and fairest (2019) and she has enjoyed senior premiership success as well as being a junior premiership coach. A key player for the club’s Limestone Coast Women’s Football team, Scarlett is the prototype player every club wants to have in their club and not just one but multiple Scarlett Jarrad’s – players who leave everything on the court but also contribute in administration, umpiring and coaching and Scarlett has done all that and maintained her reputation for being the life of the party.

fairest, snaring the top honour for the association in 2016.
And now she sits at 300 games, having returned to A Grade in 2019 and now leading the A Reserve team in 2021. She has also been club treasurer since 2018 and has quite a few premiership medals in her collection with her beloved Tigers in prime position again to challenge for the 2021 A Reserve title. A cursory game at league and association records also suggests that Alisha hitting the 300 game mark, a feat matched by her brother David Nulty at the same club, could well be a history making feat.
