All coming together today, here and now, for what will be an exci ng grand final day. The Western Border Football League is an extremely proud league with our naming right sponsor Bendigo Bank Mt Gambier & District Community Bank Branch. Tracy and her team do amazing work and their ongoing commitment to our league, our clubs and our players is appreciated immensely. Our Brian Hennessy Medallist has been crowned for Season 2021 and a huge congratula ons to Millicent playing coach Clint Gallio, on winning this award. Clint is an extremely popular winner, an inspira onal saint’s player and a very welldeserved medallist for our league. Congratula ons also goes to all the other Season 2021 Best and Fairest winners For the first me in many years the league has had a player kick 100 goals in a season, so huge congratula ons to Millicent’s Gene Robinson. Gene has been a dominant forward all year. He’s thrilled the crowd and has brought something a li le extra this year to Western Border Football.
Michael Mourbey does a hell of a lot of work for the football league. He’s a very unsung hero and we really appreciate all the work he does for our league. Thank you also to Jo Gibbs, President of the Western Border Netball Associa on and her wonderful team. There has been lots of phone calls, discussions and some very hard decisions made this year between us, but I really appreciate your support and your friendship in what has been a tough season for both netball and football. We will con nue to work closely together to make this league the very best. Our league over the years has had a lot of great volunteers, and this year we have an outstanding one. The winner of the SA Community Football Volunteer of the Year Steph Con n. Steph plays a role in men’s football, women’s football, junior football and is heavily involved in club football at North Gambier. Anything we ask of Steph is never a trouble. We would like to congratulate Steph on this award, it’s truly well-deserved and should be well recognised. So, if you see Steph around today congratulate her, she fully deserves this. We would like to wish our friends from Mid South East League and Kowree Naracoorte Ta ara League all the best for their grand final days today, and I would like to thank both Peters for all their advice and support during the year. Even though we’re Compe ng leagues your experience and advice has helped me this season greatly, so thank you.

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW THOMAS MILES - SE VOICE A Grade – South Gambier v Millicent After 161 days, 45 games, five months and two COVID-19 interruptions, it is time to crown the 2021 Bendigo Bank Western Border Football League premiers. Malseed Park is the arena and South Gambier and Millicent are the star attractions in the fight for the holy grail. It will be a fitting occasion come 2.30pm Saturday afternoon when the two best sides in the competition go head-to-head. The Demons' class has been evident since their successful road trip to McLaughlin Park back in round 1. The well-rounded unit superbly led by playing coach Brayden Kain has talent all over the ground and has set the benchmark all year. South is characterised by its ability to shift through the gears and get on a roll as games wear on. The Demons also move the ball quickly and methodically with a strong connection up the ground from Dion Stratford at full back to Kym Eagleson at full forward. Kain has led the forward line with conviction alongside the equally prolific Eagleson and Brodie Foster. Brett O'Neil, Bronson Saffin and Scott Endrel front the midfield charge alongside tall and agile ruck Mason Hein, while recruits Dane Handreck and Jack Casey added the finishing touches over the offseason. The victorious semi-final side did not even enjoy the services of key players Taylor Saffin and Stratford, who are now both available for selection. The latter is a critical part of the defence which easily conceded the fewest number of points across the 2021 season. This year was South's first finals appearance since the 2016 decider and Kain believes a lot of the turnaround sourced from a fruitful Limestone Coast Football League campaign last year when his team pushed the
boundaries, while others stayed at home. “It is hard to believe when you think how we dropped off quickly after losing the 2016 grand final,” he said. “We lost some experienced players to give an o p p o r t u n i t y to yo u n g k i d s fo r t h e i r development. “Then 2020 happened and we brought some guys back to the group because their team was not playing. “We went a fair way which gave us some excitement thinking maybe we are not far away. “We had a big recruiting drive at the start of this season and that gave us a bit of a lift to drag a little more out of ourselves. “The group started to believe that anything was possible and we have been blessed to maintain that momentum all the way through the season.” The red, white and black do not need to be reminded of the damage South possesses after a second-half rampage sealed the qualifying final in convincing fashion. However, Millicent only needs to turn to round 11 for hope when it became the only team to overcome the Demons at full strength. The Saints brought the heat to a wet and miserable day at McLaughlin Park by tackling South into submission. The end result was a bruising 78-point defeat for the Demons and Millicent may look to implement a similar strategy if the weather gurus are correct. But even if the forecast showers do not arrive, 2021 Brian Hennessy Medalist Clint Gallio has plenty of weapons at his disposal. The playing coach fronts a star-studded midfield alongside inspirational captain Jacob Carger, talented young gun Sam Willis and athletic ruckman Finn Grimes, while Frazer Bradley generates plenty of speed off the wing.

F.L. The core group can win the ball at will and presents beautiful delivery for the most destructive forward the competition has seen in years, Gene Robinson. Robinson is worth the price of admission alone and has kicked 65 more goals than anyone else in 2021. He showed no signs of slowing down scoring five in tricky conditions against North Gambier last weekend. Robinson has had mixed results against the Demons kicking bags of two, seven, five and four, but if one man can win a premiership off his own boot it is him. He will likely be matched up with Stratford in what could be the one-on-one battle that decides where the cup will go. All premierships mean everything, but 2021 could be extra special given the off-field challenges of late and both clubs thoroughly deserve victory having forged their own compelling cases for success. South may be one of just two sides to score three or more WBFL flags in the 21 century, but the six years since the last Mount Everest in 2015 have been a long and arduous rebuild. Meanwhile, Millicent has transformed itself from losing every week to being one win away from the ultimate prize in back-to-back seasons. “After 2018 people left the club and went different ways, so we had a big exodus of players,” Gallio said. “I followed the team fairly closely when I was up in Darwin and there were a lot of games where the boys were in it, but could not hold on. “We blooded a lot of young kids that year which was a bonus having some games and competitiveness under their belts. “The main thing when I took over was making sure we running out games and getting back to playing consistent footy which comes with maturity.
GRAND FINAL PREVIEW THOMAS MILES - SE VOICE “Through some real hard work we were flying during preseason with numbers, intensity and enthusiasm up straight away. “The year off did not hurt us and probably made us stronger and hungrier to get back to winning ways.” The form guide points towards the Demons, but the Saints have just as much belief and talent. Let battle commence as a new chapter is written.
After finishing fourth on the ladder, the Saints scored gritty wins over West and East Gambier and the likes of Joe Walker and Zac Bradley hope to channel that fighting spirit to cause an upset.
Under 18 – South Gambier v West Gambier South Gambier hopes to make it four from four in Under 18's grand finals against West Gambier. Millicent is one of two sides to have come with the Under 16's trophy, but the question is within 50 points of South all year and reached will it belong to the red or white side of the the decider the hard way. club?
F.L. There is no love lost between the sister sides, who have fought some intense battles during the season. White holds a slim 3-2 advantage in the winloss count after a solid qualifying final win. White is fronted by Mitch Harrold, while Red's trump card is Liam Delaney. Under 14 – South Gambier White v North Gambier South Gambier hopes to begin a huge day by witnessing its youngest White side topping North Gambier in the youngest grand final. South White and the Tigers have been the superior sides all year in the competition. The Demons have held the bragging rights recently and go in as the team to beat.

PRESIDENTS REPORT FOOTBALL CASTERTON SANDFORD CATS What an outstanding way to finish our season as a club with our u15 girls qualifying for the grand final today. They have produced brilliant netball all season led by coach Fozzy and we all arrive here today full of both hope and admira on no ma er the result. Good luck girls!!! Aside from the obvious issues that we Victorian clubs have faced this year, we are very excited about the posi on of our club a er pu ng in a power of groundwork both off and on field this season. In what has been a stop start couple of years, the strength of our town has risen up against the odds once more to put together a less than ideal but really successful venture. The volunteers must be commended for making yourself available at the last minute so o en this year. Led by your fearless leader, Geoff Godfrey Mitch, you are definately the most pivotel cog of our machine, and therefore making the year a success. A misunderstanding that covid is li ered throughout our town and falling from the trees made it very hard at mes working through cases where we were able to play by law but for whatever reason not being able to play sport. For this we apologise to our sponsors and members, players and supporters, but we promise you we tried as hard as we could week in week out to give our town the best opportunity to feel the hope and happiness that came from par cipa on where possible. We thank those couple of clubs that worked with us to be flexible and work as a team to make our Saturdays possible. To those clubs that weren’t so willing, or understanding, I guess we forgive but maybe not forget moving into the future. We were dealing with a na onal crisis out of our control and I’m sure if the shoe was on the other foot our town and club would be fully suppor ve of doing what it takes to let common sense prevail even if it wasn’t the easiest op on. I am really proud of all involved throughout the season and we make no secret of the fact that we are building a unified club that will represent our town and what we are about. For too long we have bickered about the merger, where we should sit within the football landscape and this has put so much strain on our club. Those that wish to be part of this organisa on moving forward must and will stand together and work together through this exci ng me of change. Our planning is about growing our membership base, our sponsorship programme, and giving the community a safe and enjoyable place to be part of. This off season will involve an uprade of change room facili es, new ligh ng for football ground, new speaker system as well as unveiling the brand new undercover area in front of the clubrooms n memory of club great Monk. We are so proud of all our footballers and netballers who stuck by us this year and look forward to building again in 2022. You guys and gals have represented us passionately and with some recrui ng and internal growth we look forward to the on field improvement next year. It has been an honour to be President of the football/netball club in 2021, and can’t wait for the challenge of rising up again in 2022. What a privilege it is to be part of our community in mes like we have faced recently. To our sponsors and members who have had to endure so much heartache and turmoil this year, our hearts are with you each and every day and may the next 12 months see us bounce back together and come out the other end with smiles on our faces and with doors wide open to successful businesses without limita on once more. We thank you for your con nued support as it is vital for the viability of our club.
EAST GAMBIER BULLDOGS In my first President’s report for the 2020 season, we had a severely interrupted season due to COVID and again in 2021 season we have had our challenges with interrup ons and missed games again due to COVID restric ons and lockdowns. This year has seen many outstanding results on & off field’ and the strength of the commi ee has con nued in a year that has proved to be again both difficult and challenging. The commi ee met on 8 occasions throughout the year and added to our normal workload has been the ongoing specula on regarding the future of the WBFL and SANFL hosted mee ngs to facilitate an uncertain future and what lays ahead for the 6 clubs in the WBFL. Many thanks to members who have volunteered their services to organize and control the Saturday home games and Thursday night club meals as well as other events and du es rela ng to the successful running of the canteen and the bar. . On field, the football department including coaches and support staff did a magnificent job in trying circumstances again we struggled to produce consistent results, but several matches proved that we had the talent there but producing it on a regular basis proved challenging. Thanks again to Ma Wilson, Jayden Eldridge, Trav Younghusband and U/18 coach Jason Dunn. A highlight was the late season thumping of South at home that set us up for a good finals campaign. However, losses in both A and B grade at Millicent in the first final round brought an abrupt end to what looked like a promising season end. Two president’s lunches saw us host Rachael Sporn and Phil Smyth who gave excellent value to a full venue of sponsors and presiden al members. Congratula ons to the netball club on another great season and the A grade result in winning the minor premiership. Congratula ons to Tenille Gray on winning the associa on medal and runners up Emily Hunter and Lisa Fyfe. Financially speaking, I am pleased to report a very solid financial result which has the bonus of allowing us a posi ve bank balance moving forward. Treasurer Nick Graney has done a magnificent job with his con nual control of expenditure and accoun ng. . Membership this year was undertaken by Peter Dwyer and has pushed the membership numbers close to 300 a fantas c effort. Sponsorship con nued thanks to the reless efforts of Azza and the commi ee we have sustained and grown sponsorship even with a shortened season. Stra y has kept us all informed with emails and social media updates and now has a new hobby in watching the power usage on his phone app with the newly installed solar panels. Thanks again for handling of all our correspondence, commi ee issues and interac on with the league. . Finally, change is imminent many thanks to Ma Wilson who has advised he won’t be con nuing as coaching in 2022 as we await the outcome of WBFL and SANFL discussions to advise us of what lies ahead for 2022. Thanks again to our stable and knowledgeable execu ve commi ee and their efforts in 2021. Rob Johncock

We could dwell on the frustra ons and challenges that Covid has set us but there have posi ves as well, teaching us traits we value as teams and a club… Resilience, teamwork, honesty, trust and effort are just a few of the tools we’ve needed to land the 2021 season. The Western Border Football Netball League execu ve members need a massive thanks for their me and effort in managing in this current situa on, as they have had to make decisions which have been unbelievably difficult and challenging. The current board is united and commi ed, and has been strong even when us as clubs have challenged the thinking. Well Done to Michael, Jo and the team. And a personal thanks to Don Bu erworth who does a lot of the grunt work to keep us in check!! And Thanks also to Michael Mourbey who oversees the 3 leagues in the region for his ongoing support and work! And thankyou to Kane and the team at Xpress for pu ng together the budget each week, great job. To the other clubs in the WBFNL, Thanks for your friendship, respect and fun even when it gets tough. The standard of our compe on and the banter we enjoy makes life pre y cool on Saturdays, and long may that con nue! And to all your teams compe ng this weekend, Congratula ons on making the GF and All the Best. Onto OUR club…. If ever we have that chance to improve even more, I look forward to it and I know we’ll take it…. As President, I am in awe of the on field and court achievements we have created this year! Our Coaching staff, Trainers, Volunteers and Parents have set an environment for our players to flourish…This is something for our families, supporters and players, and sponsors to be very bloody proud of! Our off-field work has been equally rewarding and as with most clubs there are many parts to our machine that just get the job done. We have a big year with many varied challenges and a pre y high workload, so well done!! There are a number of well-earned volunteer “re rements” beckoning this year and I look forward to the next genera on of club people stepping in to the shoes le vacant and keeping us running smoothly!! Big thanks to the number of commi ees of the MFNC. The dedica on and faith you show to the club in many ways does not go unno ced. You are a bunch of stars and a great team who make the place be er for your efforts! To our league award winners last weekend…, What a huge effort from you all to cover off on some individually brilliant years! It was a very long list of well-deserved accolades! We covered from top 3 in senior footy Best and Fairest plus a 100 + leading goal kicker, and winners in many netball grades, right down to 13B netball and U14 footy B and F winners. Truly astonishing results…..But they don’t do that without the team around them either! So many memories created for them and us all, and now, most of them get the chance to play for team success this weekend. The Norm and Di Facey Champion Club Award also shows that it wasn’t just an individual thing and is a great outcome for the whole club! All our players are all to be congratulated on outstanding team years, with every grade of eligible team making the finals, both Footy and Netball. This is a testament to the people you are and what you bring to team sport and the Millicent FNC. Bad luck to those teams who were knocked out in the finals. The effort, skill and character shown by all of you has been outstanding, and I know you will pull on the Saints colors next year and strive to go one be er. The ul mate success awaits for those lucky enough to be playing this weekend if they win. We will celebrate this season 2021 as a great club should, no ma er what the result…. Together! Best of Luck and Go Saints!
NORTH GAMBIER TIGERS Congratula ons to all teams compe ng for premierships today, par cularly our U14 footballers and 13A & B, 15A, C grade and A Reserve netballers. Also, well done to the WBFL execu ve in nego a ng another tricky season to get us through to grand final day. Like all of us involved in club land, the last couple of years has been a lot more demanding than what we signed up for and I am sure all of the club presidents appreciate your efforts. Craig Turner has got our U14s through to the big dance a er an intense couple of finals. Turk has med his teams run to the grand final against South perfectly. This talented teams best is good enough and we hope the boys and girls can hold up the cup at the end of the day. Our under 16s didn't make it to finals, but not for the lack of effort from them or the coaches, Bre Shepherdson and Nick More . The boys have pledged to s ck together over the off season and come back bigger and be er for 2022. Tim McInerney managed to get the U18s into the finals, which was no mean feat given the year that was, with a lot of boys making the A grade debuts thoughout the year and many playing mul ple games most weeks. These boys are the future of the club and we look forward to their development in coming years. Our reserves had a rough year and coach Ma Kurzmann ended up with one of the toughest jobs in the club ge ng a team together each week. Thanks to all that took the field. We all know how successful Jus n McConnell has been over the years, but I think this year was his best coaching performance ge ng the seniors through to the preliminary final. Unfortunately, that was to be the end of our run, but we can't be prouder of the boys over the year and we have plenty to build on for next year. To our trainers, Aiden, Buddha, Sara and physio Bri, team managers, me keepers, umpires etc, thanks for all of your efforts throughout the year. All clubs had trouble re-engaging players, volunteers and supporters a er 2020 and I thank everyone that contributed to 2021, including our football commi ee comprising Kevin Bryan, Daniel Gibbs, Jamie Walters, John Brown, Steph Con n, Fiona Young and Luke Norman. Hopefully 2022 will return to Covid normal and make it easier on us all to enjoy our involvement in the mighty gers. Steph Con n was nominated and has been recognized in the SANFL and AFL Volunteer of Year Awards, with a chance to be judged the State and Australian Volunteer of the Year at upcoming func ons. Good luck Steph. Our U12s completed their season last week with the U12 lightning carnival, when they played off in the final. The club was full a er at their presenta ons which was great to see. Well done to the junior commi ee, led by Steph and Ryan Creek, all of the coaches and parents who helped out in any way. May you all have many years of enjoyment to come with the gers. Well done to our WBFL award winners as follows; Jake Schutz – The Border Watch Sportspower Player of the Year Jake Schutz – Klasbilt Senior Backman of the Year Hamish Telford – Mark of the Year Sam Stafford, Jake Schutz & Nick McInerney – Team of the year Our loyal sponsors have again been fantas c, par cularly Stuckey Electrical Contractors, KFC, Fasta Pasta, Neale & Nulty and L & H. Please support all of our sponsors when you can. Go Tigers.

PRESIDENTS REPORT FOOTBALL SOUTH GAMBIER DEMONS We finally get to grand final day a er another Covid-19 interrupted season. It’s been a huge year for the Demons with a massive focus on club improvements over Summer and earlier this year which saw all change rooms enlarged and renovated, the kitchen modernised and improved, a gymnasium included under the main roof, a third netball court almost here and so many other improvements. We could not have accomplished all this without the support of the City of Mt Gambier, State and Federal governments, many sponsors and tradespeople around the club and lots of other helpers. Thanks to the WBFL board for the efforts in ensuring the season is completed. In a year like no other the board under Michael Summers has done a great job. On field it’s been a big year too. We’ve stayed the course with 2 teams in both U14 and U16 grades giving 40 young players in each grade the opportunity to play footy in red and white. As with all our junior grades our ethos is par cipa on before premierships. Some mes if everyone is enjoying themselves results come so we are fortunate to have every junior grades represen ng the club today in a Grand Final. In a first for the WBFL our U16 Red (coached by Darren Keding) and White (Ma Bryant) teams will play off against each other, there will be a winner and a loser and the club will win long-term. Our U14 team (Adam Salmon) and U18 team (Duncan McGregor) are coached by mul ple senior flag winning players and could not have be er mentors with our aim for all our juniors to enjoy the game, make friends, learn skills and get through to senior football. Congratula ons to all our junior coaches, team managers, players, families and supporters – you are the best. Our senior teams have been building over the past 3 years and we loved playing in the Limestone Coast Football League in 2020. With another year under our belts and some ac ve recrui ng we were able to put 2 compe ve teams on the park from round 1. Full credit to coaches Brayden Kain and Nick Patzel whose people skills, football knowledge and loyalty have been outstanding. There is s ll much work to do to finish the season with the silverware we want and we look forward to matching our skills with MFNC on the big day.
WEST GAMBIER ROOS Welcome to Malseed Park to all Clubs playing off for 2021 Premiership Glory. Commisera ons to our West Gambier Reserves side who a er a slow start couldn’t fight there way back to get the win last week. They have been really well Coached this year by Nathan Lewis and hopefully he can keep the group together to surge towards a 2022 lt at the ul mate. In the Ba le of the Brother’s it is our Under 18’s Coach, Todd Lewis, who has family bragging rights ge ng this group of talented 16 and 18 year olds into the Grand Final with an opportunity to bring the home the Flag. This group of young lads have fought hard all Season to represent their Club and no ma er the result today you all should be proud for what you have achieved at West Gambier this season. All the best boys. 2021 has been a difficult year for the Western Border due to obvious reasons, however, I think it should be noted the tremendous job that has been done this season by Michael Summers and his Board to get a season completed and for all Clubs to be able to be represented here on Grand Final day. Lastly to my Commi ee, Coaches, Volunteers and the Club Members of West Gambier I’d like to say Thank You for your dedica on and support during a difficult Season. Your con nued willingness to assist whenever asked of you this season, evidenced again by you all today is truly what makes West Gambier the greatest Club in the League to be involved with. Cheers Fridge Giddings.
Thanks to everyone involved with the South Gambier Football Netball Club over the past year. Hopefully we have improved in many areas and will con nue to do so We look to the good mes around the club that we love. Good luck to all teams and par cipants today.

PRESIDENTS REPORT NETBALL CASTERTON SANDFORD CATS It was a credit to the whole club to get all teams filled and off and running in 2021. Our main obstacles to start with were being able to fill a compe ve A grade and to field both 15 and 13 A & B sides, the la er only being achievable by the same group of girls playing both matches in their grades each week. Our early problems soon gave way to border restric ons, lockdowns, no training sessions, no face to face mee ngs and abandoned matches and league byes. While at mes on the SA side, everything seemed to return to normal, in Vic it was a different story for many disjointed weeks. Coaches became specialists at running home trainings online and the only contact team members had with each other were by social media groups. S ll several of our teams had their eye on finals. As the season disappeared for Cats netball, in abandoned games and restric ons the teams in finals conten on turned from five to three and then very disappointedly due to restric ons again but not without acceptance, it was to one, a er the first weekend of finals. The club rejoiced as the 15 & U B, undefeated for the season, were able to take their place in the Preliminary final last Sat with regional lockdown in Vic li ing, and win their way through to the GF. Good luck to the girls today. Last of all I would like to men on the vast improvement of the juniors that were able to take the opportunity to play among the A grade ranks this year and the way in which they were guided and led by the more experienced senior players on and off court. Thanks to the execu ve, coaches, players and families for your commitment for 2021.
EAST GAMBIER BULLDOGS East Gambier Netball Club has shown tremendous strength & pa ence in a challenging year. I am grateful to the Club and the WBNA for doing everything possible to have this season. All of our players, families & members have supported each other excep onally well. Though the season was difficult, all of our grades played hard each and every week and produced some fantas c netball. We saw 6 of our teams playing in finals and our A Grade finishing on top of the ladder, a remarkable effort by all players. We had plenty of East representa ves at the WBNA Country Champs, well done to Ka e for being a part of the 13 & Under Western Border 2 team, Amryn in the 17 & Under Premiers Team and Tarsh, Emily, Lisa, Tenille & Tyne also in the Senior Premiers side. Emily, Lisa and Tenille selected in the Team of the Championship Ka e and Sharni also par cipated in the South East Junior Development Squad, learning valuable skills. Our A Grade girls also stole the show at the League Medal Count, with Tenille winning Best & Fairest for the 3rd year in a row. Congratula ons to her teammates Emily & Lisa for winning 2nd and 3rd respec ully. Alex received 3rd for C Grade, Tonique was 3rd for the 15 & Under B and Runners Up went to Ka e in 13 & Under A and Tahni in 13 & Under B. Amazing achievements! Congratula ons to Brooklyn, Grace, Indi & Ma lda for par cipa ng in the Green Shirt Mentor Umpire Program, it’s fantas c to see you developing your skills. 2 of our commi ed umpires, Alex Quick and Gemma Hunt received their C Grade badges, a fantas c effort. We also had many player milestones this year. Congratula ons to Zoee, Indi, Brooklyn, Lilli, Tonique, Sophie, Millie, Michelle and Ambah for reaching 50 games, Issy for 100 games, Alex for 200 games and Bo for the big 250 games. Congratula ons to all Clubs and WBNA for a successful season, albeit the disrup ons. Best of luck to all playing in the Grand Final this weekend.

Well, we have done it!!!! A er the crazy season we have had who would of thought that we would be hear at the Grand Final. What an amazing season we have had with so many highlights! This has included our under 11’s being asked to play a pre-game before the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Adelaide, which was in apprecia on for our con nue support of Net Set Go. We were also cheering on many of our talented Juniors that represented our club proudly to bring home their respec ve championship’s in Adelaide during Country Champs. Donna, Paige & Hannah also played before the Thunderbirds & winning their Senior championship in a thriller. I have never been more proud to say that I am a Saint than at Sunday’s medal count, seeing the success of our fantas c Netballers and Footballers. The highlights of the day was to stand up & accept the Norm & Di Facey ‘Champion Club of the Year’ award along with the WBNA Most Improved Club as well as the WBNA Champion Club. I have been lucky enough to have been involved with the MFNC for a very long me, I do not think there has ever been a season when we have not only had all our Netball team’s qualify for the finals let alone having 8 of them playing today. It is a credit to our amazing coaches & the commitment they have shown to get their teams to the Grand Final. Wishing all our teams the best of luck today along with our football sides, here is hoping that we can bring home the 10 Premiership Cups. GO SAINTS!!!!
SOUTH GAMBIER DEMONS This Saturday sees the conclusion of another season of netball, but it was only twelve months ago that we were all unsure what 2021 had in store for us. And not just on the netball courts. There were a few moments during the season that tested us all and whether we would even get to this point. Clubs, players and supporters owe a huge debt of gra tude to the reless work of the WBNA execu ve, along with WBFL, to get the season off the ground and hold it together un l grand final day. Special men on to our friends from Casterton across the border and how special it was to see them compe ng on the courts again last week. Looking back to the start of the year, South Gambier’s season started early for our younger players with the introduc on of a Junior Development Program that we are immensely proud of. This year, anyone who has visited Blue Lake Sports Park would have no ced the construc on works going on to develop a third court, that should be ready for ac on in 2022. This is another ini a ve that we are extremely proud of, and forever grateful to a group of generous donors and helpers that have allowed us to get this far. On the court we have seen improvement across all the grades as the season went on and we look forward to 2022 with both excitement and an cipa on. A number of South netballers were recognised during the year with representa ve honours, and again last week at league trophy presenta ons. Congratula ons to all award winners. Everyone knows that community sports clubs can only exist with the hard work of many volunteers. South Gambier Netball Club is no different and I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of the club, from the hard-working commi ee, to coaches, managers, umpires and anyone else who has put their hand up over the journey. Finally, good luck to all netball and football sides compe ng in grand finals today, especially South Gambier’s B Grade netball team. Go Demons! Andrew Matheson
PRESIDENTS REPORT NETBALL NORTH GAMBIER TIGERS Season 2021 can only be described as a crazy and unprecedented season. Although there were lockdowns and restric ons, we were s ll able to pull off an amazing season. Thank you all!!! It has been a successful season for the North Gambier Netball Club with 8 out of our 9 teams making their way into the finals. WEST GAMBIER ROOS Well we have made it to the 2021 Grand Final with only a few road blocks during the season and a big thank you to the WBNA Exec board for all their guidance and help, it is certainly appreciated the me and effort it takes to keep the season going. A er our Seniors not taking the court in 2020 it was fantas c to see all 10 teams start the season and finish the season together. Improvement across all grades this season from our li le Under 11’s right through to our A graders and I am excited for what the future of West Gambier Netball Club looks like with the talent that has taken to the courts in 2021. Lots of posi ves in 2021. West Gambier was well represented in the Country Championships in Adelaide over the long weekend in June with Jade Ri er and Lisa McGregor being part of the winning Seniors Team, Lisa McGregor steering the ship for the Under 17’s Championship team which Sarah Ri er, Tara Bryant and Zoe Malseed were part off. The 15’s Championship team seen Leila Croker take part, the 15’s Developmental Squad had Charlo e Sco , Ellie Xanthopolous, Lucy Simpson, Aleisha Pearson and Imogen McGregor hit the court. Ella Jolley and Mikayla Pearson were part of the 13’s Championship team and Haylea Cowie was part of the 13’s developmental squad. Another successful Net Set Go program ran with 21 li le poten al Roo’s learning skills for 10 weeks under the guidance of Amy Cram, Jo Reid and Tameeka Pollifrone and our 13’s and 15’s lending a hand during the 10week program and happy to say that it will con nue again for the 2022 season. West ended the minor rounds with 7 teams in the top four and a er the semi’s we headed into the Prelim final with the 13B’s, 15A’s and Under 17’s finals hope s ll alive. Unfortunately, the 13B’s & 15A’s finals campaign will not con nue but the Under 17’s had everyone in the crowd on the edge of their seats as their game against South had the score level at the end of the 4th quarter which seen both teams go into over me and level pegged it for the majority but as the final whistle went West sealed the deal and will take to the court for a home Grand Final – wishing Audine and the 17 girls the very best of luck Xx With the 2021 League Medal Count held congratula ons goes to the following players: Sarah Ri er who received the runner up Best and Fairest for the Under 17’s and earned herself a place in the Team of the year, Tara Bryant placed 3rd on the ladder in the Under 17’s, Leila Croker receiving Runner up Best and Fairest in the 15A’s, Ella McKenny ed 3rd on the ladder in the 13B’s and Lisa McGregor placed 4th on the ladder for the A Grade. As always, the season would not be possible without our army of volunteers – to my Commi ee, the Coaches, team managers, scorers, mers, everyone that helps out with set up, pack up and all the behind scenes work that is needed to make it work – THANK YOU. To our Sponsors for the 2021 Season: Dave Stephens Crash Repairs, Hunters Transport Pty Ltd, Collins Court, Hudson’s Plumbing, Logan Gleed Carpentry & Concre ng, Triple S Distributors, MGS Tilt Tray and Towing, Commercial Hotel, Metro Bakery and Cafe, skin PT & Massage, The S hl Shop, Donut King, Blue Fin Holiday Homes, Avis Mount Gambier, Tracey Davey, Lisa McGregor, Tracey & Ma Cowie, Andrew Sealey, Kaboom Family Entertainment, Vanity Makeup Bar and Body Lounge, Fasta Pasta, Western Tavern, Leanne Li le – Body Shop, Lima & Co, Beaurepairs – Mount Gambier, Birdie Blue, Dwyer’s Boxing Club, Bakers Delight, McDonalds, The Nourish Nook, Unpackaged, Paradise Pizzas, Montebello IGA, Starrick Family & Green Triangle Electronics. MATCH REPORTS PRELIMINARY FINALS A GRADE – MILLICENT V NORTH GAMBIER The three prior encounters between reigning premiers Millicent and challenger North Gambier had been single figure margins – tense contests played in good spirit, with the Saints coming out on top on all three occasions. There was no reason to think the A Grade preliminary final between the two rivals would be any different – but it was. Millicent had clearly had an intense week on the training track and they came out firing – relentless in defence, pa ent in a ack and clearly on a mission. The Saints powered to an eight goal quarter me lead and that made the Tigers’ quest for a grand final berth even tougher and while they se led in the second, Millicent was s ll able to work the ball to find shooter Tabatha Sanderson in range and the Saints shooter just kept conver ng. She ne ed 30 from 35 in the opening quarter as Paige Nitschke, Lucy Denton and Demi Verbena worked the ball and the space un l things opened up for Sanderson and at the main break it was a 12 goal lead. Por a McRae was also a huge factor in the opening half, especially the first quarter, as she forced errors in the feed, took some impressive intercep ons and rebounded strongly as North just struggled to find their shoo ng radar in difficult condi ons. It was more of the same in the second half as Sanderson con nued to enjoy plenty of supply, adding another 30 goals for the second half, while turnover ball came from Denton, Lisa Duldig and Hannah Nitschke as they really worked hard to deny me and space in the middle third. Given the weight of supply, Maddie Whaites and Noni McConnell created some cri cal touches but all too o en the ball was lost in transi on on a day the Tigers would rather forget. Mel Renko ran hard all day and she was as important in crea ng turnover ball as she was driving to the circle, while Brianna Walters also used her speed and crea ve delivery to great effect but neither had enough of the ball in the end, to be able to try and shrink the deficit, which was 19 at three quarter me and 27 by the final whistle. The Saints basically won every posi on on court, with Duldig at her brilliant best at wing defence and Sanderson unstoppable in goal shooter.
13 & Under B - Kalani Dunn
A RESERVE – NORTH GAMBIER V EAST GAMBIER The A Reserve match was a ghtly contested game that could have gone either way un l North gained the lead with a minute to pay to win by 2 goals. N o r t h sta r te d st ro n g l y w i t h P h o e o b e McInerney using her speed through the midcourt to provide opportuni es for Alisha Bryan who finished well in windy condi ons. North’s defenders in Emily Stafford and Jessie Li le worked over me in defence to block the drive of East and held them to just 5 goals for the quarter. North went into the break with a 7goal lead. East fought back early in the second with Michelle Richardson & Sharni McKinnon ghtening up their defence and North struggled to get the ball into their a ack line. Casey Horrigan started to come into the match combining well with Alysia Geraghty to have their best quarter scoring 13 and keeping North to 6. With the game being all ed up at the break the scene was set for a great second half. East came out firing in the third with East’s Teagan Gray running hard through the midcourt and connec ng well with Chloe Perryman to find Horrigan in the goal circle. The windy condi ons didn’t help as the players made passing errors, but it was the rebounding of McKinnon that helped East take the lead by 3 goals at the last change. North injected the experience of Amanda O’Shaughessy at the last change and her combina on with Alycia Close was cri cal in the last as they pa ently fed the ball to Alisha Bryan. Emily Stafford shut down Geraghty and kept her scoreless as North ran out winners by 2 goals to advance to the Grand Final. Best players for North were Libby Morgan-Howe and Alisha Bryan and for East McKinnon and Geraghty were named best. B GRADE – MILLICENT V NORTH GAMBIER The B Grade match started slowly with both teams making early errors before the Saints defenders Heather Douglas and Nicole Domaschenz increased their pressure causing North to turnover the ball. Millicent’s GS, Kate Walker found space in the circle despite the pressure from Elyse Willoughby helping the Saints to lead by 7 at the first break. Willoughby con nued her form in the second quarter blocking the drive of Mia Varcoe and crea ng opportuni es for Sarah Dally. It was Millicent’s Jackie Sunderland who dominated the quarter through the midcourt, combining
13 & Under A - Elodie Adam
well with Saige Gibson to help their side to increase the lead by 4 to be 11 up at half me. Both sides made changes at the break with Keeley Stuart entering the game at WA for the Saints and Alice Tentye and Georgia Tarca entering the match in a ack for North. North struggled to find their flow and any mistakes were u lized by Millicent with Varcoe doing the bulk of the scoring. The Saints held a match winning lead of 19 goals at three quarter me. The last quarter was the closest of the match with both sides going goal for goal and North increasing their defensive pressure all over the court. The damage was already done, and it was the Saints who advanced into the Grand final winning by 21 goals. Best players for Millicent were Jackie Sunderland and Mia Varcoe and for North, Willoughby and Circelli were best. C GRADE – NORTH GAMBIER V SOUTH GAMBIER South con nued their good form from last week, moving the ball quickly in a ack and se ng up scoring opportuni es. The windy condi ons made it hard for the goalies to finish and it was South’s Bailey Young who was able to score the most from her opportuni es. North’s defenders Chloe Miller and Ilana Adam rebounded any missed shots and helped their side go into the quarter me break 3 goals in front. Both teams remained unchanged, and North’s Kate Dyson and Zoe Rout started to connect well in the midcourt and Young con nued to score. It was North’s best quarter as they forced South into errors and increased their lead to be 8 in front at half me. South moved Breanna Forster into centre and she provided more drive, while Kate Telford and Misty Dalton ghtened their defensive pressure to create turnovers. Forster combined well with Ella Egan to win the quarter by 1 and reduce the margin to 7 at the three-quarter me break. The last quarter was a goal for goal tussle as North pegged the lead back early with North’s Egan domina ng and playing her best quarter. South regrouped to keep possession of the ball late in the match and run out winners by 3 goals. Best players for North were Bailey Young and Hannah Fox and for South Ella Egan & Kate Telford.

MATCH REPORTS PRELIMINARY FINALS 17 & UNDER – SOUTH GAMBEIR V WEST GAMBIER In what was clearly the match of the day, both sides ba led hard before West became victors by the slightest margin. West started the game strongly, scoring quickly with good transi on between Tara Bryant and Sarah Ri er and Ri er finished accurately. South’s Megan Reid ran hard for South and with Alyssa Duncan making the most of her opportuni es the game went goal for goal. West broke away late and held a four-goal lead at the break. The match con nued to go goal for goal with great match ups all over the court. South’s Tully McShane provided speed for the South a ack line and created plenty of opportuni es, however it was the accuracy of Ri er and Zoe Malseed that was the difference as Malseed shot 8 straight for the quarter. West increased their lead to be 8 goals in front at half me. West injected Nikki Clayton at WA and South moved Reid to GS and McShane to centre. Reid used her speed in the goal circle and finished well. Bryant and McShane con nued to ba le hard for their respec ve sides with Ri er con nuing to dominate the shoo ng circle. South managed to reduce the margin to 6 at the three-quarter me break. South came out firing in the last quarter scoring the first two goals and the match went goal for goal with South’s Ellie Bouchier causing turnovers to help her side get back into the game. Alyssa Duncan started to find space in the goal circle and went on a shoo ng spree scoring 14 for the quarter. West struggled to find space in the a acking third and with South scoring late goals the game was ed at the final whistle. The over me period provided a great spectacle with all players giving their all and neither team being able to break away. South’s Lydia Megaw work hard finding space in the pockets and feeding well but a er going goal for goal West took charge in the dying minute taking the match by 2 goals. Best players for West were Tara Bryant and Sarah Ri er and for South Alyssa Duncan and Megan Reid. 15 & UNDER A – NORTH GAMBIER V WEST GAMBIER North started strongly using their speed through the midcourt to set up scoring opportuni es for Macey Griffith who didn’t let her side down ne ng 10 out of her 12 a empts. Jamie Young started strongly at centre for North and had a great ba le with West’s Leila Croker. North held an 11-goal advantage at the first break. North con nued to dominate the contest across the court as Tora Jones worked over me to gain vital touches for her side and despite the windy condi ons the goalies finished accurately. North extended their lead to be 16 up at half me. Both sides made changes at half me and West’s defenders in Ellie Xanthopoulus and Charlo e Sco picked up their intensity and restricted the movement of North’s a ack line.
Stella Mobbs worked hard in the defence line for North takin mely intercepts and rebounding any missed shots. North increased their lead by 10. The last quarter was a more even affair with both sides having plenty of scoring opportuni es, but the windy condi ons made it difficult to score. Luca Roulstone played well through the centre for North and West’s Tully Linder picked up some good touches for her side. North was stronger across the court and advanced into the Grand Final with a 29 goal win. Best players for North were Macey Griffith and Stella Mobbs and for West Aleisha Pearson and Tully Lindner. 15 & UNDER B – CASTERTON SANDFORD V MILLICENT The first win for the Casterton Sandford 15 & Under B team was being able to cross the border and play their preliminary final – the second was on the scoreboard as they overcame less than ideal prepara on that included no training un l the day before the cri cal game to earn a spot in the grand final. Millicent challenged the Cats in the opening half as Bella Gysbers and Mackinlee Alcock pressured the Cats frontline into errors on the feed and at the other end, Ma Fauchelle was a focal point in the opening quarter and Hailey McGrath conver ng five from seven in the second to see the Saints only four goals down at the main break. The Cats made some posi onal changes at the first break and in the second half they made a real difference as Chelsea Hulm did a power of work at goal a ack, opening up space for shooter Ivy Lane who had a stunning second half, ne ng 11 from 13. The move of Phoebe Carlin to goal defence was also a masterstroke by coach Claire Foster, moving Sarah Richardson out to wing defence and Laura Michelmore to keeper. The trio started to create more turnover ball in the new combina on and with Indi Longhurst, who claimed the grade’s best & fairest honour the next day, running hard both ways and earning a mountain of possession, the Cats powered to a nine goal victory. A late injury to Phoebe Carlin somewhat soured the win but on accep ng her runner up award at the associa on presenta on the following day, she was on her way to recovery and nothing was going to stop her from taking her place in the Cats’ quest for not just a premiership but a perfect season – undefeated. 13 & UNDER A – NORTH GAMBIER V SOUTH GAMBIER The match started well with both teams combining well to go goal for goal, with South’s Gracie Dalton making the most of each of her opportuni es. North picked up their defensive pressure late in the quarter to go into the break with a 5-goal lead. North’s intensity in defence con nued in the second term with North’s Raine Darmaani
intercep ng any loose balls and combining well with Ruby Mitchell to restrict South to 3 goals. North’s Claire Mitchell dominated at GS, scoring 9 for the quarter, helping her team go into the break 15 goals in front. Both sides made changes at half me and South’s Charli A will worked hard in defence to cause turnovers and the quarter was much more even with the difference being the accuracy of the North goalies. North’s smooth transi on through Maggie Collins helped them to increase their lead to 20. North con nued to breakaway despite South figh ng to the end in a high standard match. North’s best players were Claire Mitchell and Maggie Collins and for South Dalton and A will again played well crea ng opportuni es for their team. 13 & UNDER B – MILLICENT V WEST GAMBIER Millicent started the game strongly, using their speed in a ack to deliver to Kalani Dunn & Tahnee Grosser who didn’t let their side down ne ng 9 from 10 in the first quarter. Millicent’s centre, Asha Gysbers created turnovers and worked over me to stop the flow of West to help the Saints go into the break with a 7-goal lead. At the quarter me break West injected Elly Mc Kenny to WD to stop the drive of the Saints Poppy Thorne. This created more turnovers, and the quarter went goal for goal with Lila Pearson from West conver ng accurately. Millicent increased their lead by 2 to go into the break 9 goals up. Millicent made changes to the midcourt and Lainie Rainsford was injected into the a ack line, passing, and combining well with Gysbers to enable Dunn plenty of scoring opportuni es and she didn’t let her side down finishing accurately. Jeda Hibberd was damaging in defence and the Saints had a 16 goal lead going into the last. Both sides made more changes which unse led both teams. West played their best quarter with Lara Murdoch combining well with Pearson to outscore the saints 6 goals to 4. Best players for the Saints were Hibberd & Dunn and for West, Murdoch and Analeigh HumphriesAnderson.

Her team mate Phoebe Carlin, who suffered a late game injury but will be right

Ivy Lane is as solid as a rock in goals, while Chelsea Hulm stepped up when injected into the game at quarter time and was a rela key in the Cats taking control of the preliminary final. Laura Michelmore is a key in defence for the Cats with her work over the shot and rebounding, while Sarah

GAME PREVIEW The 15 & Under A 2nd semi final was one of the matches of the day a fortnight ago and this grand final looms large as the association’s best young talent from Millicent and North Gambier face off. There are enticing match ups all over the court and perhaps the most critical will be in the Millicent shooting circle where Western Border team m ate s A n n e l i s e J a n s s e n (Millicent) and Stella Mobbs (North Gambier) will go head to head. Janssen has been one of the competition’s big improvers in
2021 and she works well near the post, while Mobbs has the athleticism to trouble her and did force some feeding errors from Millicent in that semi final. Injured Millicent goal attack Abby Denton is hoping to be back on court for the title decider and with her in goals out the front of Janssen it is a strong scoring combination. Lillie Paul and Ella Easterby will be critical in the mid court, and the return of Edie Easterby after missing the semi final, further boosts the Saints ion basically whatever
areas of the court Donna Denton chooses to play her. Lauren Van Eeden is an athletic defender, who along with Maya Tarrant will need to be at her close checking best to stop the quality shooting combination of Cara Nulty and Macey Griffith, who both move well, have great timing and finish accurately. Ava Collins will be the key for the Tigers mid court. She was outstanding in the second semi final and is critical in transition as well as with that last feed into the shooting
circle where she connects so perfectly with Nulty and Griffith. North’s X factor is Tenielle Human, who had a strong semi final and is the queen of the interception for the Tigers as well as driving hard through the mid court as a key link player. Her combination with Mobbs in denying Millicent scoring will be a key to the final outcome and given Millicent are adding two class acts to the line-up that won the 2nd semi final, the Saints should prevail.

GAME PREVIEW The B Grade grand final looms as one of the tightest on grand final day with only a stunning final quarter seeing South Gambier advance from the 2nd semi final straight into the grand final, with their opponent Millicent easily winning their way through the weekend’s preliminary final. If you look at pure weight of supply, South should have won that semi final more comfortably and reliable goalers Jaymee O’Neil and Leyna Bruggemann will need to be on song in the season decider. They play a moving circle that tests all defensive combinations and Heather
Douglas and Nicole Domaschenz will need to deny this duo as much supply or the scoreboard will definitely favour the Demons. At the other end, association runner up best & fairest Charlene Riley headlines the Demons defensive line, with strong support from Bella Morale, who has been a revelation in 2021 as a circle defender, and Tash Attiwill who is the heart and soul of this South line-up. They will harass and pressure the Saint forward line that boasts plenty of experience in coach Jacqui Matthews, alongside the talent of Mia
Varcoe and Kate Walker. It is all about speed in the mid court for the Saints with association best & fairest Jackie Sunderland and Tayla Werchon who run hard all day and can be relied upon not just to provide strong leads or chase down loose balls and create turnovers. The Demons mid court is all ab out experience and smarts with Maddie Burley, and if Shelby Auld remains sidelined, it will be up to youngsters Sophie Wight and Ruby Richter to run the centre.

smart and if Bryan gets too much supply, the Tigers will certainly have the edge. At the other end it is rising teenage star Annelise Janssen with the goal shooter bib, against classy North defender Emily Stafford and Stafford will be hoping her team mates pressure the delivery from outside the circle into the accurate tall Saints shooter. And that's where the most critical of all battles will be as Millicent's goal attack and association best & fairest Sophie Ellis is the key meaning North's Jessie Little will need

Ellis is the key centre pass receive players, leading in assists and combines seamlessly with Janssen to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The toughness and speed of Phoebe McInerney and Libby Howe-Morgan in the Tigers mid court also looms large and Shelby Gallio will need to be at her best defensively outside the circle to ensure they do not get easy access to their shooters.

GAME PREVIEW It should be the highlight of grand final day and there is nothing to suggest it won’t be as the benchmark of the past decade goes up against the new leaders of the pack in the 2021 A Grade grand final. East Gambier has dominated 2021 with only one loss – a final round one goal defeat at the hands of Millicent when Tarsh McCallum was missing and Lisa Fyfe sustained an early injury but stayed on court. Millicent, though, has been building and last weekend in the preliminary final, showed they are far from done with yet with their largest margin win over a top four side for the entire 2021 season. The Bulldogs have been around the mark for the past five years without breaking through for that elusive premiership and adding
League runner up B&F Emily Hunter
paying coach Emily Hunter to the line-up, along with star defender Lisa Fyfe has seen the Bulldogs add even more quality to the lineup. The elevation of star teenage shooter Amr yn Bosko to a permanent A Grade role has also been pivotal. She might be the sidekick for association three time best & fairest Tenille Gray but she is no shrinking wallflower, not only clearing space for her star shooting partner but taking on plenty of the scoring responsibility herself and she has arguably been the rookie of the year with her composure and work rate. Five of the Bulldogs’ starting lineup this weekend were named in the 2021 Western Border Team of the Year which shows how the rest of the competition rates this line-up as well, with goal keeper Bo Creek and mid courter Tarsh McCallum joining the big three in the line-up.
For the Saints, they will need to bring the relentless defensive intensity that they brought to the preliminary final and right from the first whistle if they are to topple the Bulldogs. Portia McRae was on song at the weekend, with Hannah Nitschke and Lisa Duldig providing their usual no-nonsense hard work out front, denying time and space to the North frontline. They will need to do that and probably more to limit the scoring power of the Bulldogs,

Creek has the unenviable task of limiting supply to in form Saints shooter Tabatha Sanderson, who had a strong preliminary final thanks to the patient feeding of her team mates, while McCallum is the level head in the East frontline, who works the angles, directs and encourages and has a great connection with her two goalers.
with Hannah Nitschke having the toughest task on the day – ensuring Gray does not earn too much ball in dangerous positions. At the other end of the court it will be all about speed of ball, avoiding long cross court entries, which Fyfe and Creek will swallow up, and trying to isolate Sanderson one on one. Paige Nitschke, Demi Verbena and Lucy Denton were much more patient in the preliminary final and will need to continue that high work rate to shake of the tight checking of the East defenders, with Hunter and Tyne B o s ko t w o o f t h e b e s t a t pressuring the feeders. It will be physical, uncompromising and tense with the Bulldogs finally breaking through for a drought breaking title years in the making.

PRESIDENTS REPORT JO GIBBS There have been a lot of highlights in the 2021 season but perhaps seeing Casterton Sandford’s 15 & Under B team – that have been the benchmark in that grade all season – book their spot in the grand final was my highlight. These young Cats had been kept from playing by government restric ons but to see them back on court and ge ng the job done was fantas c and we wish them and all par cipa ng teams the best today. Despite all the challenges of 2021, we have completed our season in style. The junior and senior medal counts were a great celebra on of individual brilliance with all clubs represented in our best & fairest and runner up award winners. And now we are at the pinnacle of the compe on – the grand finals – with 18 teams chasing premiership success which is what we all crave as part of a team sport. To have all clubs represented on grand final is such a wonderful result for our compe on. I have to congratulate Millicent on having teams in eight of the nine grand finals – they con nue to maintain such a high standard in our compe on and it is great to see the rest of the clubs working as hard as possible to challenge the Saints. Our junior representa ve program was again hugely successful with both the 15 & Under and 17 & Under
teams taking out the SA Country Championship tles and the 13 & Under team going deep into the division two finals. We also had a first this year, sending our two development sides to the SA Country Championships for the first me and it was a great experience for those players with the 13 & Under development team actually qualifying for division one and finishing in the top 10 which was a huge effort, while the 15 & Under development team also had some impressive results. I think it is safe to say the future looks bright given the talent and numbers coming through our under age teams at both club and representa ve level… Our senior side also had a stunning one goal, last gasp victory over crosstown rival KNT to secure the SA Country Championship tle with three players – Lisa Fyfe, Tenille Gray & Emily Hunter – making the top 10 of the championship. Western Border also had Lucy Denton named vice captain of the South Australian 17 & Under team although the na onal championships were called off for the second successive year and Sarah Ri er was part of the same squad… I want to thank the parents who support all our junior netballers and the hard working coaches at every club who give up their me, and at mes, their sanity,
to develop players of all skill levels and ability… I also want to thank the volunteers at every club because you are the lifeblood of your associa on. You score, me, work in the canteen, provide sponsorship, work on the gate and countless other jobs to ensure match day goes ahead without a hitch. Speaking of umpires, we had six umpires receive their C Badge this year, which was a wonderful achievement – congratula ons to Lauren Cleary, Rachel Jamieson, Alex Quick, Gemma Hunt, Tracy McShane & Amy Cram. I also want to thank my wonderful execu ve of Bronwyn Turner, Donna Denton, Jodie Johnston & Di Gould. We have developed a wonderful working rela onship that sees us challenge each other but also work coopera vely to ensure we provide the best compe on possible for the players and their families that have chosen Western Border as their compe on of choice. A huge thank you also to Michael Summers and the WBFL Board. Our close working rela onship, built over the past couple of years, has been invaluable in ensuring we have been able to navigate the challenges of the past two COVID seasons. Their respect for my views and their willingness to support netball unequivocally has made my job easier than it would otherwise have been.
