PINE JOG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL West Palm Beach, FL Pine Jog Elementary is a LEED® Gold certified, two-story elementary school representing a new paradigm of school design featuring 21st century learning. PINE CREST LOWER SCHOOL Boca Raton, FL
The Lower School facilities have been relocated to a central location within the campus to enhance protection of the youngest students and to place them in direct proximity to all of the school’s supporting program areas. This school’s program objectives are innovative for several reasons. First is through the recreation of the campus, new exterior learning spaces have been created, and the ability for students to interact with natural areas and the environment enhanced. A second innovation is evidenced in Pine Crest Administration’s commitment, wherein for the first time, they have created and adopted a policy to pursue a LEED® Certification for all facilities. GALAXY E3 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Boynton Beach, FL Galaxy E3 Elementary invented a new direction for K-5 instruction in Palm Beach County, the nation’s 11th largest school district. This is the first CHOICE (magnet) elementary school specifically designed to provide E3 learning to the District’s underprivileged and minority populations. The school curriculum focuses on Energy, Environment and Engineering and includes a focus on science and math. HAMILTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Sanford, FL Hamilton Elementary School is a Magnet School of Engineering and Technology with a focus on science, technology, and robotics. The renovation portion of the project transformed approximately 65,000 SF of outdated classrooms, administration, dining and the media center to accommodate 21st century learning modalities and technologies, with particular emphasis on incorporating instructional spaces for the science, engineering and technology programs, including a robotics lab. DOWNTOWN DORAL CHARTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Doral, FL The exterior architectural characteristic of the building is compatible with City of Doral design guidelines and is in harmony with the surrounding community. The educational curriculum at the compact, two-story elementary school includes a dual-language immersion magnet program. During the program validation phase, Zyscovich updated the intended facilities list established for the elementary charter school with educational enrichment areas for 21st century learning while remaining in full compliance with the prescribed PK-5 elementary curriculum. DR. PHILLIPS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Orlando, FL Zyscovich provided programming, master planning, and traditional A/E services for this phased comprehensive construction project. The completed project provides a new 67,000 SF elementary school, a refurbished 8,100 SF covered play structure, relocation and expansion of the playfields, and removal of all existing portables, and comprises adaptation of OCPS’ prototype elementary school standards to include state-of-the-art technology in classrooms, the media center and the cafetorium/kitchen. WILLOW OAK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Mulberry, FL The school features a courtyard with brick exteriors. The school’s simple geometries facilitate fast construction allowing for a 300-construction cycle. Also, the facility is designed with exterior “Choice Menus” to allow for customization into each community’s unique architectural character. The program includes an extensive arts, music and science wing and incorporates a “DaVinci Corridor” which leads to the schools “Great Room” dining/assembly area. BELLA CITTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Davenport, FL Located along the county edge of Polk County, Bella Citta Elementary will serve as a municipal epicenter for a new and growing community within the Bella Citta area. The elementary school is currently under construction and reflects the unique warm colors and materials used throughout the community due to its customizable characteristics. The school offers a Stations of 996 student stations and houses various educational programs such as extensive arts, music and science. BUNCHE PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Miami, FL The modular, two-story PK-5 elementary school responds efficiently to the requirements of its intended compact, urban site, as well as to the educational challenges faced by urban community schools. The school was designed in conjunction with community partners to provide services that were lacking within the surrounding neighborhood; for example, the elementary school was modified to accommodate an additional “plug-in” building for the school’s ESE program, which caters to autistic children. ALLAMANDA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Palm Beach Gardens, FL Allamanda Elementary School is the latest version of our two-story elementary school prototype. Our design approach is based on the “schools within a school” house concept to be utilized through the division of the kindergarten, primary and intermediate classrooms into separate “learning villages.” The “villages” are more personal, offering a sense of “smallness within largeness.” Each grade level’s area of the building has been designed to meet the specific needs of their educational curriculum goals while providing a place of safety, identity and ownership. FREDERICK DOUGLASS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Miami, FL The Frederick Douglass Elementary school involved the replacement of an existing PK-5 school on a tiny urban, three-acre site in Historic Overtown in Miami, Florida. Zyscovich designed the District’s newest ‘micro-school’ utilizing a Small Schools by Design (SSD) framework. The facility responds efficiently to the requirements of its intended compact, urban sites, as well as to the educational challenges faced by urban community schools. The school and plug-ins were designed in conjunction with community partners to provide services currently lacking within the surrounding neighborhood, such as medical and speech therapy clinics, ESOL classes, and specialized ESE programs. GROVE PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Palm Beach Gardens, FL This new generation elementary school was designed to fit on a small site to accommodate the district’s program for a phased replacement school. The school was right-sized and lean to be one of the most efficient public schools built today, while fully supporting and enhancing the 21st century curriculum. The brand new, state-of-the-art facility incorporates innovative and flexible spaces that facilitate new methods of teaching and enhance the student learning and social experiences. HOPE-CENTENNIAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL West Palm Beach, FL Hope-Centennial Elementary School, the first three-story elementary school in Palm Beach County, was designed in multiple floors in order to fit its educational program into its compact urban site. Built in the midst of a somewhat blighted neighborhood, the new school has been a key to the area’s revitalization and provides numerous opportunities for public and community use. This, along with increased parent and community participation, has led to a dramatic reduction in crime in the neighborhood, formerly one of the toughest in the county, as reported by The Palm Beach Post. MANATEE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Lake Worth, FL Manatee Elementary was a large elementary school with operational and educational challenges due to its undersized facilities and site. The firm designed a two-story classroom building to the west of the existing building. The design creates an educational courtyard with interpretive learning areas, provides for increased safety and security in the campus and allows the under-utilized parcel to the east to become expanded playing fields in a park-like setting when the portables are removed. PALMETTO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL West Palm Beach, FL Palmetto Elementary, a K-5 facility, was a phased replacement dual-campus school, incorporating one existing building from the original site, a renovated Jewish Community Center located across the street, and new classroom and administration facilities for both sites. The school has a very high ESOL population whose special needs had a significant impact on the design. The school design recognizes this heritage and facilitates community support for the school. The original campus will serve 450 students in grades K through two. The JCC site will serve 500 students in grades three through five. INNOVATION MONTESSORI OCOEE CHARTER SCHOOL Ocoee, FL Building Hope, a national non-profit organization, hired Zyscovich to master plan, program and design a new Early Learning Center. The planning process included an assessment of the school’s current and future needs, program development, an assessment of the constraints of the proposed site, and the fiscal parameters of the construction budget. The school program was developed around the Montessori Method, focused on curiosity, creativity, and passion for life-long learning, where children are encouraged to ask questions, explore their interests, and develop mastery through hands-on experience. JACK & JILL CHILDREN’S CENTER Fort Lauderdale, FL Jack & Jill Children’s Center program includes year round early education center for children from 6 weeks to 5th Grade. Zyscovich is finalizing the center’s expansion project to include a K-5 elementary school, located on the existing campus. The expansion building is approximately 28,000 SF, consisting of classrooms and labs, a dining/multi purpose space, administrative offices, media room and therapy space for approximately 220 children. CORAL REEF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Pembroke Pines, FL The one-story stucco facility’s compact design is arranged around an academic core with a perimeter of “Universal Classrooms.” The academic core contains the large common area spaces such as art, music, dining, multi-purpose and media. The “Universal Classroom” is an educational module designed to accommodate all educational programs, including kindergarten, primary, intermediate, exceptional education and skills labs. J.C. MITCHELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Boca Raton, FL J.C. Mitchell Elementary School is a phased replacement of an existing school on a restricted urban site. The school itself is an Exceptional Educational Center servicing a broad range of special needs children. The school’s one-story design is “Accessibly Friendly” to ensure all students are able to enjoy the school’s amenities. The facility is composed of a number of small “neighborhoods” under one roof. Each “neighborhood” has its own identity, ranging from young kindergarten to older intermediate students. The various “neighborhoods” all come together in the “Commons” areas, such as the media center, art, science and computer labs. 35TH STREET DAY CARE CENTER New York, NY Design of day care center within existing two story space including rooftop playground. Proposed design connects all three levels by wide ramp. TOUSSAINT L’OUVERTURE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Miami, FL
The design of this elementary school, located in an inner-city, Haitian neighborhood, was inspired by Miami’s single courtyard schools of the 1930s. In respect to the Caribbean derivation of most of its more than 1,000 students, Zyscovich emphasized light, color, and access to the outdoors, providing four open-air courtyards onto which all classrooms open. Inside, movable, soundproof partitions allow crowded classrooms to be reconfigured according to need. The bright Caribbean palette further enlarges the sense of spaciousness. LAKE TRAFFORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Immokalee, FL The School District of Collier County is facing a serious overcrowding problem at nearly all schools in the district. They embarked on a major capital improvement plan to resolve the problem. This plan included converting all of the existing K-5 elementary schools to K-6 schools through remodeling/reprogramming and major addition projects, while updating and modernizing the facilities to current District standards. At Lake Trafford Elementary, the final scope of work included construction of a new P.E. shelter, renovation work including ADA toilet upgrades, the creation of shared teacher planning areas, and a new HVAC system with electrical upgrades, and 22,000 SF of remodeling work. OJUS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL North Miami Beach, FL Ojus Elementary is an urban school on a small site in North Miami Beach. Zyscovich was commissioned to perform a campus master plan and design services for a 538-student station classroom addition. The firm first confirmed the educational program and improvements required by the project. The final scope of work comprised a new three-story facility with a new prototype kitchen/dining facility and 27 classrooms, additional staff parking and reconfiguration of the existing staff parking lot, the replacement of the existing P.E. Shelter, new play ground equipment, two new basketball courts, and upgrade of the existing electrical service. Student Stations: 538 Size: 49,088 SF

PARK LAKES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Parkland, FL Located on a twelve-acre site across the street from a city park, the siting of the school announces the civic threshold of a public space. It is located off a major highway (SR 41) and is surrounded by water on three sides. Therefore, student and traffic safety were primary concerns. Accordingly, the building was set back from the road and drop-offs were sited across a canal so that entry is over a bridge. The school site also includes a large city park with two ball fields and a separate, full, regular elementary school playfield. The master plan included this state-of-the-art park, baseball and softball fields, picnic area, and volleyball courts. Student Stations: 979 Size: 104,500 SF

ROLLING HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Orlando, FL The Rolling Hills Elementary School was a replacement and renovation project planned in a single phase as students were being relocated to a swing school site during construction. The outdated, existing buildings were demolished, and the new school was built in its place. The new school campus includes 20 classrooms, an administration wing, a media center, kitchen, and dining/multipurpose spaces, and the renovation of two existing classroom buildings. S.D. SPADY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Delray Beach, FL S.D. Spady Elementary School was the first African American school in Palm Beach County and the founding principal, Solomon David Spady, was appointed by Booker T. Washington. The replacement of the school was therefore a sensitive project and important for the entire community. Zyscovich’s design objective was to create architecture that recognizes the historic value of this school to the community. This was achieved by recalling the historic architecture of Delray Beach and incorporating metal roofs, Bahama shutters and residential scale openings similar to those found in the surrounding neighborhood homes. SUNRISE PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Boca Raton, FL The school was designed with two onestory structures: a 103,000 SF academic “core” building and a 1,500 SF field structure. The core contains large multipurpose spaces for art, music, dining, and media events and is surrounded by a perimeter of “universal” classrooms – modules designed to accommodate programs including kindergarten, primary, intermediate, exceptional education, and skills laboratories. Structurally upgraded, the facility further serves as a hurricane shelter. Sunrise Park Elementary is located on a site with a middle school and a nature preserve. Zyscovich designed a campus setting while also providing amenities for the middle school and resolving traffic congestion. ANDREA CASTILLO PREPARATORY ACADEMY Doral, FL Andrea Castillo Preparatory Academy is a compact prototype. The school comprises four pre-kindergarten classrooms, seven kindergarten classrooms, 21 primary classrooms housing grades 1-3, 10 intermediate classrooms housing grades 4-5, a covered outdoor dining, physical education and art patio, an administration office suite, a cafetorium, a kitchen and other ancillary areas. VILLAGE OAKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Immokalee, FL The School District of Collier County is facing a serious overcrowding problem at nearly all schools in the district. This plan included converting all of the existing K-5 elementary schools to K-6 schools through remodeling/reprogramming and major addition projects, while updating and modernizing the facilities to current District standards. Zyscovich designed the expanded site and buildings to create a new face to the campus, to provide for a separation of age groups within the facility, and to create an exterior learning courtyard. The new campus plan is highly secure, with a high-security, main entry point located at administration. The new site plan also provides extended on-site drop-offs and expanded parking facilities. CHALLENGER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Tamarac, FL The compact 22-acre site for Challenger Elementary required the footprint of this school to fit within a 9-acre parcel, as the facility shares a campus with Millennium Middle School. The elementary school follows the design of a 2-story Zyscovich prototype used for seven other South Florida elementaries. Stylistically, Zyscovich created a strong architectural dialogue between the components and between the two schools by means of similar forms, color palettes and fenestration. This school serves the community not only as a hurricane shelter, but with a community park for weekend play and programs. HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Immokalee, FL The School District of Collier County is facing a serious overcrowding problem at nearly all schools in the district. They embarked on a major capital improvement plan to resolve the problem. This plan included converting all of the existing K-5 elementary schools to K-6 schools through remodeling/reprogramming and major addition projects, while updating and modernizing the facilities to current District standards. At Highlands Elementary, the final scope of work included new classrooms and labs, an expansion of the dining/multi-purpose room and stage, and a new P.E. shelter. The renovation work included ADA toilet upgrades and a new HVAC system with electrical upgrades. Student Stations: 787 Size: 90,000 SF

FRONTIER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Loxahatchee, FL The school was designed with two onestory structures: a 103,000 SF academic “core” building and a 1,500 SF field structure. The core contains large multipurpose spaces for art, music, dining, and media events and is surrounded by a perimeter of “universal” classrooms – modules designed to accommodate programs including kindergarten, primary, intermediate, exceptional education, and skills laboratories. Structurally upgraded, the facility further serves as a hurricane shelter. Frontier Elementary’s major cost savings were the result of inventive site planning. Zyscovich suggested creating a five-acre lake on the site from which fill could be used to raise the school’s elevation, a measure geographically critical for flood prevention. DIAMOND VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Greenacres, FL Diamond View Elementary repeats our one-story elementary school prototype, grades K-5. The facility is compactly designed around an optional “hurricane shelter” core with a perimeter of “universal classrooms”. The optional hurricane shelter core is a windowless structure designed to withstand winds up to 150 mph. GRAND BAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Doral, FL Grand Bay Elementary School is a compact prototype designed to expand to 1,150 student stations on a small 6.5 acre site. During the program validation phase, Zyscovich updated the exterior facades for community compatibility and created educational enrichment areas for 21st Century Learning while remaining in full compliance with the prescribed PK-5 elementary curriculum and to ensure student station funding compliance. 05-C ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Palm Beach County, FL This is a three-story new generation of compact prototype intended to fit on small sites to accommodation the school district phased replacement schools’ program. Land is a precious commodity in Palm Beach County, as new schools are needed in growing urban developed areas, sites are small. Also, this prototype’s super compact footprint accommodates an existing school remaining operational while a new school is built adjacently. The school is right-sized and lean to be one of the most efficient public schools built today, while fully supporting and enhancing the 21st century curriculum. SITE 30 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Palmetto Woods, FL This school is a new generation of “supercompact” elementary school designed for small sites and DOE $/SS compliance. Zyscovich “right-sized” intended facilities list established for the elementary school with educational enrichment areas for 21st century learning while remaining in full compliance with the prescribed PK-5 elementary curriculum. The school is equipped with wonderment and enrichment areas at the DaVinci, Language, Art and Music Labs to complement the curriculum. Pine Jog Elementary School was the first LEED® Gold Certified public school in the State of Florida. The education curriculum utilizes the entire Pine Jog Nature Preserve with designed learning places in and around the structures that bring the outdoors inside and vice versa. These opportunities include butterfly gardens, water re-use demonstration areas, understanding solar paths and energy through the creation of an interactive sun dial area, and biological life cycle study areas. 215
