The recently concluded Diwali was sober in many ways. The Supreme Court of India’s ban of firecrackers in Delhi NCR region had its effect across the country, with a subdued and less noisy and less polluted Diwali the new year was welcome. As the year enters its last quarter, it is a time for stock taking and planning ahead.

A Story of Winning This is the story of winning. It is a story of strong determination in face of tremendous odds. It is also a story of passion and talent combined to realise ones dreams and achieve success. For an industry which positions itself as one of the creative sectors, where art and aestheticism play a major role this is indeed a fascinating read. Ali Hassan Sherazi, hails from Bangalore. His schooling and education have been from St Patricks School Bangalore. He also went on to acquire a graduation degree in Arts from SBMJC Bangalore. His hairdressing career kickstarted from his job at the salon Nayana in 2009, this was soon followed by Toni and Guy Mumbai. This in turn led him to the iconic London studio of Toni and guy and Vidal Sasoon . When he enrolled for the OMC competition, it magically opened many doors and the kind and calibre of trainings he received as part of this journey are truly phenomenal. He trained at Paris, Sri lanka and of course India for honing in his for creative skills, precsion and world class craftsmanship. New Age Salon

“Intense and rigorous trainings are undertaken to meet the standards of OMC. Of course your innate creativity and talent do have a major role to play in taking you forward” says Ali. It was an expensive proposition to participate in International competitions like the OMC primarily because their are “No Sponsors” at all but that did not stop me at all , my only goal was to create history for my country. I was fortunate and blessed that half of my trip was sponsored by from my sisters Fattu and Maheen. They rooted for me and were more keen for me to win and I did ! Participating at the OMC was really very difficult . I had to work and practice the whole year to come closer , winning is totally a different ball game at OMC because their are Stylist (sharks) waiting for over a decades to win here, and you have nine judges who judge each category who do not see u work but judge on your Look , OMC is becoming tougher every day. Speaking of regrets,Ali poignantly said “.if I would have won this in cricket then yes it would have changed my life totally but hair dressing in india will take time to be recognised as important. But nevertheless after my victory at the OMC I have got an offer from Toni and Guy UK, may be I might take it” Ali’s proudest moment was this win for the country . He concludes, “ their is always a strong feeling when I hold the flag and that will not stop , Right now i will now swim in the Ocean of creativity ,let the waves take me where it wants me to go, i will unfold with the waves as this is a never ending story”

Cut
CUT STRONG OUTLINES We create dynamic seamlessness by combining different shapes and lengths in one haircut. One typical shape in the IN•FLUX Collection is the triangle. Trianågles are evident in all the fringes. In contrast the shape of the nape is convex. Blunt Cutting in combination with the Dark Background emphasizes the strong contours of the cut. Over-layered elements, such as wispy strands and veils, are used to soften the cut. Moving from short to long hair is another way of creating fluidity. The cut techniques which were used to create this collection are Back-Hand-Slice Cutting, (Deep) Point Cutting, (Deep) Slice Cutting and Step-Cutting.
Styling And Texture FLUID STYLING AND TEXTURE All looks are styled with flattened roots and overall sleekness in shape. The source element of all styles is a center parting. For styling variations the looks of the IN•FLUX Collection can have soft waves and rough texture which further emphasize the root shading.
Color THE IRIDESCENT EFFECT – THE MYSTICAL COLOR SECRET TO CREATING FLUIDITY The interaction of dark, mystic background colors in contrast with forceful, magnetic colors creates this Iridescent Effect – the color statement made by the IN•FLUX Collection. The Iridescent Effect is characterized by root shading and dark colors underneath combined with dynamic, eccentric colors on the surface. A mystical background is the perfect platform for showcasing the vivid Iridescent Colors on the surface. In parallel, the root shading creates depth and the dark contouring emphasizes the outlines – while the shimmering colors trace the structure of the cut.

The Iridescent Colors are applied to individual hair strands by intuitive and creative Handpainting. You can integrate more extensive or wispy Iridescent Effects by seamlessly blending the colors or positioning them beside each other. Thereby the color mass influences the intensity of the Iridescent Colors and therefore also the Iridescent Effect.

Textured silhouettes contrast with dancing wispy pieces, emphasizing the cut for each look and perfectly showcasing the Iridescent Effect in each style. To highlight the facial bone structure, the looks are styled into the face or blown out of it.

Avocados have been on our radars for quite some time now and this healthy food trend has literally become a staple in my diet. I eat avocados with anything and everything. I eat it for breakfast, I make dips out of it, and recently, I started experimenting with avocados to make my own at-home beauty products. So when I’m not eating avocados, I’m literally lathering it on my hair and skin. Sure, avocados have inspired their own series of beauty projects like shampoos, moisturizers, and oils that you can buy at a store, but trust me – the real, unprocessed thing can be just as good if not better for you.
Here’s what you’ll need: • • • • • •
1 (over) ripe avocado 6-8 oz. coconut milk 1 spoon honey 1 spoon fresh lemon juice Large comb Shower cap
One of my favorite things to do with avocados is to make a hair mask. Avocados are rich in omega fats so it helps repair damaged hair and gives you a really beautiful shine! My hair tends to get really dry because of all the travelling I do and because of shoots that use heated tools so I make sure that when I have an over ripe avocado in my kitchen, I mash it up and make something fun out of it.
If you have a blender or food processor, it’s the easiest to deseed and peel the avocado and then put all of the edible ingredients into it so you can mix it up well. If not, grab a potato masher and a large bowl and get to work! Once it’s all blended together, you can liberally apply the mask from your roots all the way down to your tips – this mask is as good for the skin on your scalp as the split ends of your hair! Use the comb to make sure you get every strand. After this, put your hair up in a bun or ponytail and then cover it with a shower cap. If you have any extra, you could probably drink it like a smoothie or make some yummy guac out of it! You will want to leave the mask in for at least half an hour, so grab a good book, watch a good show, and chill! This mask works great for boys and girls. New Age Salon

recipe
The perfect foot spa recipe to exfoliate that monsoon wear and tear off your feet.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED: • • • • • • •
1 bucket of warm water Essential oil 2 heaping spoons of aloe vera gel 1 spoon Epsom salt, sea salt, or rock salt 1 spoon of oats Moisturizer of your choice Socks First, you’ll want to put one drop of the essential oil into the bucket of water and soak your feet for 5-10 minutes. My favorite oil to use for my feet is peppermint. This will loosen up some of the dirt and grime at the bottom of your feet and get you ready for the exfoliation part. In another bowl, you’ll want to mix the aloe vera gel, salt, and oats together to make a thick paste. Use your judgment while mixing everything together; you may need more or less depending on the consistency of the gel. Now, take your feet out of the bucket and scrub each foot for at least 5 minutes. Once you’re done, you can rinse of your feet, slather on a healthy amount of moisturizer, put on some socks and go to bed!
Evelyn’s secret for after NonStop Party
Ingredients:
Dehydrated skin, puffy eyes, and small blemishes are all really common after a long night of partying. In order to remedy this quick, I make a cooling cucumber mask at home with ingredients that you can easily find in your fridge! It’s true that there are so many natural cures to just about anything if you leave it to Mother Nature! So in connect to our Ancient Beauty Rituals series… The cucumber mask has been used for centuries in Europe – especially my home place Germany. Here is how to make it:
½ Cucumber, peeled and pureed 1 tbsp honey 1 tbsp yogurt
Mix these ingredients into a bowl and apply a thick layer to your face. Leave it on for at least 15-20 minutes for the maximum benefit. This mask is perfect for hydration, exfoliation, and rejuvenation. Trust me, your bags will magically disappear after this mask and you’ll feel like a new person even if you did just Party Non-Stop! And if you’re too lazy, just do the quick fix: Slice a cucumber and keep it in the fridge before you go out to party. The next morning the slices will be cool and you can just put them on like sunglasses to calm your tired eyes! I think they make a yummy snack too!

Charcoal for Beauty Long used for bee stings and poisonings, activated charcoal has an amazing ability to remove toxins from the body. Activated charcoal is a natural remedy used to flush toxins and chemicals out of our bodies so they wouldn’t be reabsorbed. Activated carbon is usually derived from charcoal. In the beauty industry aestheticians are using activated charcoal products and concoctions to remove blackheads, treat acne, skin cleansing, improve skin texture, add volume to hair and even whitening teeth.

Teeth Whitening Dark stains on teeth can effectively be removed by activated charcoal. Using a toothbrush or toothpaste with this ingredient can help whiten your teeth the natural way.
Add Volume in Your Hair If you feel your hair is weighed down and dull, it may be time for an extra purifying hair care product. Shampoos with charcoal are more likely to pull the grease, dirt and impurities from the hair, thus adding more volume to your tresses. If you don’t want to wave goodbye to your regular shampoo just yet, simply crush up a charcoal capsule and mix in with your regular shampoo and give it a go. This works great if you want a money-saving one-off treatment!
Charcoal Scrub Recipe Before using make sure you always test a small amount on your skin. Note: Please do not use this scrub on the face, as sea salt can be quite rough and you may irritate the tear the skin. Stick to non-sensitive parts of the skin such as knees, elbows, and feet. Rub onto skin in slow, circular motions. The salt scrub will remove dead skin cells, revealing soft, smooth skin, while coconut/olive oil will penetrate the skin deep to hydrate. Charcoal powder gives skin a deep clean, detoxifies, and removes any impurities/bumps. Use the salt scrub 2-3 times a week for the perfect, softest skin! Note: Please do not use this scrub on the face, as sea salt can be quite rough and you may irritate the tear the skin. Stick to non-sensitive parts of the skin such as knees, elbows, and feet.

Posture it Right A nail technician’s job entails a lot of pressure on the shoulder and back and they are at risk of developing chronic pain in their shoulders and back. A proper posture can combat the risk by reducing muscle strain and fatigue. Here are some simple dos and don’ts you can follow to avoid strain and pain.
Hips Don’t: Twist your body and cross your legs as you work. This twists the spineand will increase hip and back pain. Do: Sit straight, with shoulders forward. Keep hips facing the client with feet on the floor. If necessary, purchase a desk with a cutout that allows you to sit straight in your chair, but to still work on the client’s hands from an angle.
Shoulders Don’t : Strain the shoulder when applying product or shaping nails by leaning on the elbows because this raises the shoulders and tires the muscles.
When doing Manicures: Lower Back Don’t: Sit on the edge or lean forward to get closer to the client’s nails. This offers no lower back support and increases muscle fatigue. Do: Make sure your chair offers back support and allows you to work with both feet on the floor. Move the chair closer to the table rather that bending yourself closer.

Do: Sit with both feet flat on the ground. Keep the shoulders straight and core engaged without straining the neck forward as you work. If you need to get closer to the client’s nails, use a hand rest or bend the whole body forward without hunching the shoulders.
Wrist Don’t: Bear the weight of the client’s hand and arm by suspending the hand during nail services. Do: Support the client’s hand with a small firm pillow that elevates the client’s hand while keeping it in a limp, relaxed position. This will greatly reduce stain on your wrists and shoulders October - November 2017

While doing Pedicures: Neck
Feet
Don’t: Stretch the neck forward to do things this creates enormous stress on the muscles of the neck and shoulders.
Your posture will be compromised if any part of the pedicure area restricts your feet and legs. Feet should be flat on the floor, and legs should be able to maneuver freely around the footrest and tub.
Do: Elevate client’s feet with a footrest and get an adjustable pedi stoolwhere the height of the footrest and the height of the stool can be adjusted to bring the client’s foot to the correct height during different stages of the service.
Back and Shoulders Don’t: Use your own strength to support the weight of a client’s foot. Don’t curve you body over the toes and feet to get closer to the client. Both put pressure on the muscles between the shoulder blades. Also, rounded shoulders reduce your ability to open your chest fully when you breath. Do: Depend on the footrest to not only bring the foot to a workable height, but also to bear the weight of the foot. You should always be in a position where your shoulders and upper back are straight.
Lower Back Don’t: Don’t twist the body to get closer to the client’s foot. Do: Keep the lower back straight and supported. Engage your core muscles to reduce strain on the lower back. Find a chair that offers support for the lower back, and be sure your pedicure tub and footrest allow you to wheel forward and surround the tub.

Australian Legacy “To evoke a legend and create a new vibrancy for the next generation. The vision of the Legacy was to create a highly commercial collection featuring versatile colour techniques that are applicable to the salon. The idea was to create beauty in its most simplistic yet refined form. True to my roots and the base on which my colour work stems. Awarding refined hairdressing its moment by removing fussy styling, makeup and graphics. With the above as my foundation, Legacy was brought to life from the inspiration of Watercolour. Calligraphic brushwork allows for an alluring medium in which we learn to take advantage of unexpected results. The intimacy of the medium springs from the way it encourages improvisation. Multiple layers and a transparent glow enhances the magic quality on the reflection. Soft, fluid tones contrast strong lines with the haircuts, creating an alluring personality. Malted contrasts pull the eyes to discover every element of each style without overpowering, explained Kristie Kesic.

Club Kids Collection
Club Kids Collection is a fusion of youth culture from music to street fashion. club kids is about the creativity and celebration of youth and its unashamed passion to be different. No matter where i look these days, be it on the street, in clubs or on instagram. i see people pushing the boundaries in search of creating their own identity. looking for something that sets them apart. It is the end result of this push for individuality that has driven and inspired me to create clubkids. The hair is loose and has movement from the haircut through to the styling. Nothing is too rigid or solid. Even the afro although solid in shape is soft in texture. There are no blunt New Age Salon
lines throughout the collection. The internal layering patterns of quite rounded to elevate weight and to create maximum movement. To emphasise the texture and movement products such as eimi’s ocean spritz, sugar lift and dry me where used to create a volume, texture and separation.

Where Are We Now? A collection by Scott Sloan
Scott Sloan used Alessandro Michele of Gucci’s ‘treasure chest of aesthetic references’ as the foundation for this collection: an amped-up kaleidoscope of colours, print-on-print, embellishment, frills, sumptuous velvet, embroidery, brocade and sheer decadence which embodies a relaxed opulence and a sophisticated femininity, a gentleness with a definite edge. ‘Where Are We Now’ alludes to the 2013 song by David Bowie which is a moving tribute to the city of Berlin. A city that Bowie knew and loved, having lived there from 1976 to 1979 and which gone through as many changes and reinventions as Bowie himself and a city which influences much of Michele’s work at Gucci. It is exactly this idea of change and reinvention

which Sloan is examining through his hair: his collection is at once a breath of fresh air and a nod to the past. A place where the ultramodern harmoniously co-exists with its late seventies influences: a flicked fringe, a shaggy crop, a nouveau mullet, a rock chick, a pixie, a gloriously vibrant Raquel Welch-esque mane. These are girls from the Dschungel (1970’s West Berlin’s answer to Studio 54) transplanted into the Dalston Superstore. The allusion is ‘70’s, the execution which is energetic and confronting, and yet vulnerable and charming is fiercely where we are now.

‘Fifty Strands of Braids’ Hermiz Daniel
“When I started on this collection, I knew it was going to be a bit of a ‘dark’ one. But I never knew it was going to end up on the leather and bondage side of things. Then I fell in love with the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey” and watched it about 10 times in one week! But I need to make it clear it was the love story I liked the most... ha ha. When we started shooting I knew we had it right – everything looked quite moody and sexual! The first model we shot, with charms in her hair - it made me think of bondage and S&M sex! Just like people who are into that ‘kinda’ sex, they use objects and tools to satisfy themselves and their personal needs. I’ve tried to translate that feeling into hair! To achieve this, some hairstyles feature accessories made from ‘fetish’ materials - or have a thematic relationship to this darker, almost sinful world. From using pins to extra hair extensions to braiding it to make the hair whip-like, or putting rings on the braids - the tricky part was to try to keep it contemporary and reflective of hair fashion.

One hairstyle that made me sure it was quite ‘bondage’ is the braided one with frilled ends. To get that shot I was throwing the hair from the back towards the front, and the model was wearing leather! The sounds of the braids against her leather jacket sounded like I was flogging her! This is actually how the name of the collection came about. When we were shooting this model, everyone in the team started to giggle a bit because of the noise the hair was making. I straight away mentioned the Fifty Shades of Grey movie and how much I love it. One of our team said in a laughing way “FIFTY STRANDS OF BRAIDS”, and I said “YES! That’s what I’m going to name the collection!” Everyone thought I was being silly and crazy but here we are. New Age Salon
The makeup was kept supernatural; it was all about the skin and the natural glow of the face. We wanted the skin to look a bit raw but healthy. Styling was pretty straight forward: sheer leotards, slips, corsets and fishnets to expose-but-not-expose the skin (if you know what I mean) and moody set up that Andrew had made! We combined that with leather clothing and accessories to enhance the bondage side of this shoot. Photography was, as always, in Andrew O’Toole’s great hands. The colourful lighting was his idea and I believe it added a beautiful touch of drama to the shoot.

KEHAIRTHERAPY: All New Cysteine Hair Therapy Ccigmaa Lifestyle brings to you the All New Cysteine Plus Hair KeHairTherapy. Cysteine is the latest hair straightening treatment, and seems to be less harsher than keratin. Cysteine is considered a better option than keratin, since the former has no formaldehyde (strong chemical) or any other harmful substitutes which otherwise under heat pressure release formaldehyde fumes. It contains the required amino acids and natural proteins as well. These hair-benefiting nutrients penetrate deep into the hair shaft. Hence, it is definitely a safer option, however now there are options of keratin available without formaldehyde or any similar harsh chemicals. All New Cysteine Plus Hair KeHairTherapy works wonders for those who have undergone a lot of chemical treatments and have lost most of the natural lipids (ceramides) that help protect the hair shaft, as a result of which the hair is left weak and lustreless. With this treatment, it keeps the hair well in place and is much easier to maintain as it cuts down excessive frizz and dryness. It brings back all the shine and your hair is much healthier as the healthy formulas present, protect hair from any further damage.
