With the fast pace of urbanization , the one thing that gets lost is nature in our lives. How do we get in touch with nature, how do we get a bit of nature into our lives is the challenge which designers are often asked to meet. One would imagine the building of a home on a one acre property near a river bank would naturally entail the bringing of nature within the living space, but this needn’t be so. The design team Dipen Gada and Associates took upon the task of creating a haven with loads of nature included into the basic concept of design and add elements that looked at taking away the stressors of daily life in built within.

The site is on a one-acre property near a riverbank. It is planned on Kotar (natural curved land) and later filled to achieve desire terrain so that it weaves itself with its natural environment. The brief of the project was a retreat home with a simple requirement of 2 bedrooms with a home theatre and pool as spaces that provide the ease to relax, mediate and get away from routine. The client wanted to create an environment that would surrender to nature and provide an experience, which would enable a stress free zone.

The World Architecture Finalist
Haveli Dharampura has been selected as a finalist in New And Old - Completed Buildings category for World Architecture Festival 2016. The World Architecture Festival is the largest international gathering of architects consisting of an awards, conference and exhibition. 343 entires have been shortlisted in various categories from 58 countries across the world. We take a look at the transformation from the old to the new of this structure which is a reminiscent of our ancient design and heritage. There are more than a 1000 Havelis lost in time in Chandni Chowk and this project is the first adaptive reuse model in the walled city of Delhi. The Haveli is converted into a hospitality project and the process took 6 years of very elaborate designing and execution. The resulting space emerged out to be magnificent amalgamation of elements from Hindu, Mughal, Jain and Rajasthan’s architecture. The project is a fine example of rich lifestyle and diverse culture of Heritage India.

Alison Brooks Architects design a landmark installation for London Design Festival 2016. They collaborated with The American Hardwood Export Council, Arup and the London Design Festival to present a cross-laminated tulip wood structure on the Rootstein Hopkins Parade Ground of the Chelsea College of Arts from 17 September until 12 October 2016. ‘The Smile’, is an urban installation that showcases the structural and spatial potential of cross–laminated hardwood using American tulip wood. The Smile is one of the Festival’s Landmark Projects; a timber structure that can be inhabited and explored by the public. With expertise from top engineering firm Arup, and using construction sized panels of hardwood CLT for the first time, Alison Brooks’ concept is a spectacular 3.5m high, 4.5m wide and 34m long curved rectangular tube – the first ever hardwood ‘mega-tube’.
