Beauty Education the way forward

Hair dressers, Hair stylists, Beauticians and Beauty professionals, Make up artists, Aestheticians’, Spa therapists, Nail artists all offer personal care services that enhance physical appearance. These professionals usually complete a training program before starting to work . Hair and Beautician education is available at vocational colleges and other private training institutes. Training programs, which may culminate in a certificate or an associate diploma/ degree, can last for 2 weeks to 24 months or even more, and cover one or more specific practices, such as cosmetology or hairstyling.

Learning the basics

A cosmetology or hairdressing and barbering program typically provides a well-rounded knowledge in hair, skin, beauty and nail care. Students learn how to cut, dye and style hair, as well as give manicures and pedicures. They learn about facials and other skin applications. Programs may also train students on skin treatments and makeup application. The beauty industry includes the use of several different chemicals, and students receive instruction on using these chemicals safely. Cosmetology students also learn to identify different hair, skin and nail conditions and how to practice proper sanitation. They all learn the basic science of hair, skin, nail and the body anatomy as a foundation course.

Although beauty professionals may have a specialization, such as nail care or facials, they can also perform a broad range of beauty practices. Hair dresser/ beauticians style hair, apply makeup, analyze skin, prepare and apply skin treatments, give manicures and pedicures and provide clients with professional beauty advice. Hair dressers may specialise in terms to advanced hair treatments, bridal hair, perming, cut and color techniques.

Because self-employment is common in the beauty field and employees of established salons may be responsible for acquiring their own clientele, cosmetology students may also consider taking classes in marketing, accounting and selling techniques. While India does not have a mandatory licensing policy and beauty and hair professionals can practice without a certificate, degree or diploma. Unlike countries abroad where it’s mandatory for beauty professionals to obtain licensure before they can begin practicing.

NSDC skilling India

The National Skills Development Council (NSDC ) is a government set up body which has in the recent past included beauty and hair as a sector skill council and is implementing a standard curriculum for courses in these areas of vocational skills. Large number of such training programs require an exam to be passed and a certain basic number of hours of professional practice. The exam usually includes written questions in addition to practical portions that require applicants to apply their skills to real-life situations.

Training in business management

Successful beauty consultants often take business courses. Some retail outlets look for freelance beauty consultants. Freelance beauty consultants may enjoy training on how to manage finances as well. Aspiring hair and beauty consultants will find it beneficial to hone customer service skills. Dealing with the public requires a friendly and patient temperament. Learning to communicate with customers to identify their concerns and help them find a solution. Hair and Beauty consultants also are known as advisors. These workers assist customers with hair and cosmetics purchases and provide tips on how to maintain hair style , apply makeup etc. These consultants generally work in retail settings and might also be required to perform duties such as restocking and accepting payment from customers. These professionals must possess knowledge of cosmetology products and sales skills. Besides of training academies and institutes students of hair and beauty can also access online information and buy books off the shelf to enhance their knowledge on these subjects. Continuing education is another important part of a hair and beauty professionals training. This can be done on a regular basis by attending seminars and workshops by eminent personalities and artists who specialise in various skills and techniques. Product manufacturers also offer training programs on the best ways to use the product and optimise its efficacy. There are hundreds of academies and training schools in India, from which an individual can choose to learn from, based on their requirements and parameters. Beauty Therapist needs to be aware of the basics of beauty therapy, health and hygiene, safety and needs to be knowledgeable about various beauty products. A Beauty Therapist is expected to perform basic depilation, manicure, pedicure and basic face care services and also assist the Beauty Therapist in providing advanced services. The person also assists in salon ambience maintenance and also does various other odd jobs in the salon including sell salon retail products after obtaining knowledge on them Personal Attributes: He or she should be well-versed with the beauty services and therapy operations and have basic service aptitude. Proficiency in communication and keen service orientation would help in providing world class services to the clients.

Step 1 - Cut

This is a dry cut. Blow-dry and then flat iron, so hair is pin straight. On dry hair, section from ear to ear. Working in the back below the occipital, create a small horizontal section based on the density of the hair.

Step 2 - Cut Remove length using texturizing shears.

Step 3 - Cut Drop the next section onto guide, and lift with a comb to create elevation. Point-cut with shears.

Step 4 - Cut Continue to drop sections to the perimeter guide, removing length by rotating between shears and texturizing shears, cutting straight off the head to create a mixed texture. 5

Step 6 - Cut Step 5 - Cut Continue alternating between tools until the back section is complete. Clean up the perimeter line with a razor.

Using the perimeter guide in the back, connect the front sections, removing length until you reach the front hairline.
