The Hot Ones Hi Members Thanks everyone for their great feedback on the new look newsletter.

Getting the hang of the new publishing method of the e-magazine is taking a bit of getting used to for a few of us, so here’s a quick run-down on how the link works... When I send out the email with the link to the newsletter, all you need to do is position the cursor over the link, and left-click with the mouse. That will then open the newsletter in the interweb for you to see. To make it bigger, left mouse click on the image of the cover, which will enlarge the newsletter to ‘full screen’ size. Using the arrows that will appear on the left and right sides of the screen pages, you can read the next page, or go backwards, by left mouse clicking those arrows. When you have finished reading, just hit the ‘esc’ button on the keyboard.

Next on the make-over list is the website - just a facelift - but we need to freshen up... So if anyone has any suggestions of things that we need on the site, from links, to advertising, or anything else - just drop me a line as I’d love your ideas..

Til next month... Juli

President’s Report Well, Well what a busy month it’s been. Not only have I been busy with work, but club issues have been quite large. I actually did not realize how much is to be done in this role, but I have a lot of good people (committee) around me for help. Let’s start with the last meeting. I went in blind, not knowing how the night progresses and needed Bob, David and Jeff to help me along. After the meeting I thought I could handle it in the future with a few more monthly meetings up my sleeve (be patient members!), but we also had a quick committee meeting before hand to settle my nerves down a bit before walking into the gates of hell! (only Joking). On that note, there will be a committee meeting before each monthly meeting starting at 7:30pm until 7:55pm. Could all members arriving to the monthly meetings allow the committee to finish without disruptions. Onto the convention updates. Everyone’s been busy with all aspects of the convention, and much progress has been made. An update will be presented at the next meeting, but I’ve organised a club display at Ballarat on Sunday 20th October, at the popular Ballarat mall called The Bridge Mall. If anyone’s interested (it will be a very early start!). The display will include around 10 cars in the mall, and we can park more nearby, to show our numbers. It’s all about informing the general public of Ballarat of our onslaught in March 2013. There will be media there and I’m hoping potential sponsors. The next day, if anyone’s interested, the Ballarat drag racing club will be having a Test and Tune day. At this stage, I’m staying up there for this. If anyone is interesting in a day trip on either of these days, or wanting to stay overnight for both, give me a call. I know some can’t due to the Port Fairy run the next weekend, which is understandable (I know you can’t attend everything). The first lady and I fired up the 57 presidential vehicle and attended the Warrigal outing that Lois organised. The weather was kind and we all had a nice meal. There were not many in attendance but we all still enjoyed ourselves. Lois is organising a bowling day, which should be fun for all. So keep an eye out for the details. I think to cater for not only local, but also our out of town members (country), we could come up with some interesting runs. So if anyone’s got any suggestions, you can contact Lois or the club. I myself have just finished with the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival, in which my little town (Brocky’s town) was infested with crowds from all over. It’s very much a community festival, which has a lot of stalls and shops for all the family to enjoy. The steam train comes up from the city, and goes back and forth from Hurstbridge to Eltham for rides. The festival has turned into a bit of a car show, with many classics and customs on display. In one area I put on a 6 car display and blew the cobwebs off the 55, and washed up the 57. I also had two Dodges, a Willys and a 32 F@#% hot rod. I got great feedback by the community so I hope the Ballarat display will be even better. Next year I’ll make sure it’s in the newsletter, because it’s a great family outing and who knows we might put together a 567 chev club display. On another note, I’m collecting past 567 chev club convention flyers. If anyone has a flyer from the 2nd, 5th or 7th conventions, could you please pass them onto me so I can get them copied. Once I have them all, I’ll get the collection printed and anyone who is interested in obtaining them, can buy them through the club at a small cost (they would look good on the man/woman cave wall). Just to note, memberships were due last month, and should have been paid by now, so if you haven’t, please renew them as soon as possible. We depend on this money to run the club. Juli, the new newsletter editor, is looking for things to put into the newsletter, so if you have anything please submit it. Just remember this is not the committees club, this club is for all members so if any member has any suggestions, they can be emailed to the club or committee members and the addresses are listed at the front of the newsletter. Well that’s about it for now. Pretty basic report. See you all at the next meeting or outing.

“Drive ‘em hard”, Greg Rowe.

h only 437 miles! Purchased new by Mr. And Mrs. Jessie Trueblood of Modesto, CA. Shortly after purchasing this car, Mr. Trueblood took a day off to go fishing. While waiting for the "big one" to bite he witnessed a woman fall out of her boat. Mr. Trueblood jumped in to help, only to fall victim of a fatal heart attack. Mrs. Trueblood returned the car home and placed it in the garage for the next 12 years. The odometer reading at that time (1962) was 413 miles.

Mrs. Trueblood lived next door to a used car lot owned by Mr. William E. Wilson (now 81 years old). Mr. Wilson spoke with her frequently and often told her he would like to buy the car for himself to keep. In 1962 the time had come. Mrs. Trueblood told Mr. Wilson she needed a car for her bookkeeper who didn't really care for the old Chevy and would prefer a Rambler. No problem. Mr. Wilson went down to the local Rambler dealer and bought a brand new one for $1,650.00 ($100.00 over cost) and made the swap. ... Continued over page 13

1950 Chevy with on He then took the Chevy home and parked it with 433 actual miles. And there it sat for the next 45 years, occasionally being started and moved in and out of the garage. In 2007 Mr. Wilson decided to sell the car and started spreading the word around Modesto that the old Chevy, with 433 miles on it, was for sale. Many had heard about the car, but hardly anyone had ever laid eyes on it. In fact, according to Mr. Wilson, he only showed the car to about 5 people in 45 years. Word spread quickly about the car and soon a buyer arrived ready and willing to pay the $60,000 asking price. When Mr. Wilson told the story of this car he complained heavily of the "capital gains" tax he was required to pay and wished he had never sold it. As of this writing, Mr. Wilson is still alive and well in Modesto and can verify the miles and originality of this car. Simply put, this is a true 100% factory original survivor (that includes the air in the tires). This old Chevy now has 437 original miles and is most likely the world's lowest mileage 1950 Chevy. via email

Get Your Kicks On R ‘The Mother Road’ as it’s affectionately known, stretches from Chicago - Illinois in the East, to Santa Monica - California, in the West. Also known as ‘Will Roger’s Highway’, it’s official title was US Route 66. Established in 1926, it served as the gateway to riches for ‘Okey’s’ to escape the panhandle in search of a better life, stretching some 2,448 miles across 8 states. Decommissioned officially in 1985, it is now one of America’s most famous landmarks.

Route 66! {Part 1} Where to Stay... Planning a trip along all of Route 66, or just maybe want to take in part of the history? Well, you’re going to need somewhere to lay your head each night, and you’re probably going to want the ‘authentic’ Route 66 feel, and stay in the little independent places - so remember to book ahead during Spring/Summer/early Autumn, as Aussies are no longer the only ones fascinated with all Rte 66 has to offer!

The Blue Swallow Motel, NM. Each room at the Blue Swallow has been restored to represent a room at a Motor Court as it would have been during the 1940s and 50s, and are unique in their furnishings and decor.

The Wigwam Motel, Holbrook AZ Wigwams feature full bathrooms with showers, AC, TV, and are 14’ wide at the base and are 32’ tall. They book out regularly, so if you’re planning on sleeping in one, make a reservation a couple of days ahead of time

Historic Route 66 Motel, Seligman AZ Located right on Rte 66, it won’t be hard to find this historic and iconic Motor Court Motel. Rest your head where Burl Ives and Bobby Troop (writer of “Get Your Kicks on Rte 66”) chose to say on their journeys along the Mother Road.

el Rancho Motel, Gallup NM Built in 1937, el Rancho was a haven for Hollywood’s greatest, and much of Gallup’s population served as extra’s, stand-ins and delivery boys. The best local Mexican cuisine is prepared right here.
