“Iron is sharpened by iron; one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
To be a disciple I must be able to accept the gospel, the good news of Christ, and live it in my everyday life. As easily as this sounds I am fallen, I am a sinner and I don’t always succeed. But the recipe to be a disciple is pretty clear and is most evident at Easter. The requirements are not only by the words of our Lord, but are found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and are discussed by the earliest of our Church fathers to the latest modern day theologians. •

It is all of our responsibility to teach our families the faith by being a the spiritual leader we are called to be. It is within families, neighborhoods, communities, and classrooms that we can encounter those who are not practicing their faith, those who have grown lukewarm in faith, or who do not un-
Mtw, 19:21, “Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to [the] poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Catechism 1816, “the disciple of Christ must not only keep the faith and live on it, but also profess it, confidently bear witness to it, and spread it: "All however must be prepared to confess Christ before men and to follow him along the way of the Cross, amidst the persecutions which the Church never lacks." Service of and witness to the faith are necessary for salvation: "So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven."
A Christian life lived with faith and charity is the most effective form of evangelization and in itself serves as a powerful way to be the disciple we are called to be. derstand the teachings of Jesus and his Church. Are you ready to be the disciple the church is calling you to be? Are you prepared to be the best version of Knight you can possibly be? We are all called to learn our faith, to practice our faith and bring our faith to others. This Easter as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, I highly encourage all of us to reflect on what we are doing to be followers of Christ and teachers of our faith both at home and in the community. Answer the call to discipleship!

St. Patrick’s Day Dinner On Saturday March 17th, our council held its annual St. Patrick’s Dinner in the St. Mel Parish Center. Once again, the event was a great success, serving about 140 guests, and raising about $2500 for charity.
Our musical entertainment for the evening was DJ’d by Bro. Andrew Cuhna, who assembled a charming mix of Irish tunes. After dinner, while our guests were enjoying their dessert, we were further entertained by the dancers from the Kennelly School of Irish Dance. As always, they put on a delightful show. Kennelly School has been dancing for us for many years and
PGK Chris Ward and our usual crew decorated the hall. The kitchen crew, led by our enthusiastic chief chef, Christine Brennan helped by her husband, PGK John Brennan, PGK Bruce Fairchild and Bro. At 6:00 PM, we brought out the corned beef and side dishes, served by Bro. Malcolm MacDonald, Matt and Joey Brennan, and Joey, George, and Madeline Wagner with a special blessing from Fr. Aldrin Basarte before we began our meal. We were thrilled to be joined by our favorite Irish, Father Liam McSweeney, Father Patrick O’Connor and Sister Kathleen O’Dwyer. April 2019 Navigator

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR LIFE
Recently I lost a dear friend of mine. He had a small life policy with another company under $100k in value. A small retirement fund that he was putting money into. My friend a lifelong Catholic, a Brother Knight passed away at the age of 58. Most of us would consider this too early for our Lord to call someone home but unfortunately we have no control over his plan for any of us. A lot of the Brother Knights I visit feel they are set. This week I had an appointment with a Brother Knight who knew about our appointment but wasn't there. He left the entire meeting up to his wife because he had to plan out some cooking event! My time is valuable is so is yours. I set time aside from my work and family to help families plan so they do not end up in the same predicament as my friend did. The Brother finally showed up as his wife and I concluded our meeting. She had told me that he took the 50% pension option at his job. I asked her what she was planning on doing when her income drops off by 50% when he passes. There was the deer in the headlights look. He remained silent. I informed them that there are two options, one is life insurance to create a pension to replace the one from his job and the other is a settlement option on his retirement funds which will provide guaranteed income with no market risk. Keep in mind that we take on market risk when we are trying to grow our money prior to retirement. Once we are in retirement mode we want guaranteed payouts and limited or no risk as we will need those funds to get us through retirement in case the good lord doesn't call us home early. In closing my friend has four kids, two adults and two minors. His wife will reach the "blackout period" with social security survivor benefits on three of the four kids. She will receive no survivor benefits until she is 60(7 years) and only benefits on one of the four kids. How do you prevent this from occurring with your family? You take 30 minutes out of your valuable time to sit down with me and learn how the Knights will protect you in a Catholic way, a way our founder would be proud of. And not leave your family destitute.

MEMBERSHIP and YOU When you hear the question: "What do the Knights of Columbus do?" How do you answer? Review in your mind what you have done as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Some recent activities that you may have missed. Did you attend the St. Patrick's Day Dinner?
Do you participate in Stations of the Cross during Lent? Do you enjoy the Fish Fry afterwards sponsored by our Council 6066 and very well produced by our Grand Knight Mike Ochoa. Your brother Knights and their family members working at Fish Fry are helping to build community in our parish. Do you volunteer for our council sponsored CupJo Sunday after the two morning Masses on the first Sunday of every month? Well our Knights of Columbus Council members are involved in all of these activities and more. That is not all what we do as Knights of Columbus. Our fundraising activities are not just to fund the charities we support but to build fraternal relationships and build our parish COMMUNITY. At the dinners we sponsor, at CupJo, and now at our Fish Fry and other parish events opportunities are there to build fraternal relationships with brother Knights and members of our parish and community. Parishioners meet one and other and the community thrives. Be an active Knight and ask others to join. The personal and family rewards and worth it. By Chancellor Frank Abi-Nader

Wheelchair Sunday Pancake Breakfast - April 7th Council #6066 will be holding our annual Pancake Breakfast to support the American Wheelchair Mission on Sunday, April 7th, after the 8am and 10am masses in the Parish Center. Last year the efforts of our volunteers and, the generous tax-deductible donations of our patrons, resulted in our ability to deliver 10 new wheelchairs to veterans and other individuals in need of mobility. Normally these same 10 wheelchairs would cost over $5,000 in a medical supply store but, because the Knights of Columbus through the American Wheelchair Mission is able to purchase these chairs by the container load the individual price is reduced to approximately $150 each. I hope that you and your families will come and support this worthy cause.
For more information visit: https://amwheelchair.org/knights-of-columbus/ Our menu this year will be: Pancakes, Waffles, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, Fruit, Orange Juice, Coffee and Tea. The cost will be: $5/Adult, $3/Child, $15/Family. Additional tax-deductible donations will be gladly accepted To make this event work I need your help.
