Thank you to all the St. Mel School parent volunteers who joined our Fair Oaks Knights of Columbus Council 6066 for many hours in October selling ice cream, hotdogs and pallets of soda, to earn money for St. Mel School. Join us next year, it’s a fun way to earn parent hours! Interest in being a Knight? Special thanks to Brother Knight Aaron Knutson for leading this event!

We Raised $2,383!!! Mars Exhibit Eagle Scout Project Outer space is one of the biggest interests of people of all ages. Eagle Scout Candidate Parker Pugno of Boy Scout Troop 217 at St. Mel Church plans to organize an Eagle Scout project that is quite different from most other projects. He plans to build an interactive Mars exhibit to be displayed at the Aerospace Museum of California at McClellan Park. The exhibit will be informative and educational for people of all ages who share a common interest in space exploration and our planetary neighbor, Mars. The exhibit will be interactive to contribute to the learning that can be done at the Aerospace Museum by informing visitors about what humans have done and will do on Mars in the near and distant future. It will contain a globe of Mars at the

center of a stand, and the globe will be surrounded by buttons next to pieces of information explaining significant locations on Mars. The paragraphs of information will describe the location and significance of the LED the buttons are matched with. When the buttons are pressed, LEDs built into the globe of Mars will light up to show the location indicated in the paragraph next to the button. There will be locations like the landing sites and paths of the multiple Mars rovers that have landed on the red planet, there will be locations of significant landmarks, and there will hopefully be the locations of where NASA and SpaceX plan to land the first humans on Mars. Parker has had a huge interest in outer space for years now so he feels like this is a project he can truly put his all into because it has to do with something he is passionate about. The picture attached is a 3D model that Parker designed himself.

A Note from District Deputy Thank you! Thank you for being a Knight. Thank you for taking the step towards deepening your faith with your Brothers and strengthening your community. I am so thankful for what I have found through being a Knight of Columbus. I have found a brotherhood of like-minded men who have a desire to serve, to unite and accomplish more than we could achieve alone. Looking at all the good works the Knights perform locally and globally, I’m proud and thankful to be a member of this worthy fraternal brotherhood.

Thanksgiving is just weeks away, and I have much more to be thankful for, but November is also a time of year we traditionally pay respect to those who have gone before us. Beginning with All Saints Day on November 1st, All Souls Day on November 2nd, and (all) Veteran’s Day on November 11th, we should also remember our Brother Knights who have passed away. They paved the way for us and we continue sharing our gifts and talents with others in their honor. Personally, the time I share with others as we work to help those in need has been my way of giving thanks for all the blessings I have received. My wife, too, is involved in many activities, and we have realized had we not stepped up to the challenge, we would never have met so many wonderful people who are now in our lives. Our “family” has grown by leaps and bounds and we are so grateful.

Membership By: Br Tony Martin

We have a goal of 14 new members during this year. If you have a prospective member please contact Tony Martin at t.martin.geologist@gmail.com or 209200-5273 . There are many benefits and reasons to join the Knights. Why did you become a Brother Knight? Were you looking for a Catholic organization, a fraternal organization, did you want to volunteer in our church and community? Were you interested in our phenomenal insurance programs? Expect a link to be sent to you in the next few weeks for a very short survey of just a few questions. Share your thoughts to help us better focus our recruiting efforts. Thank you all in advance for your time and effort.

http:// www.kofc.org /joinus

How appropriate it seems as we look to the holiday season that it begins with a time to reflect on giving thanks for everything in and about our lives, and it is followed by a season of giving. I will continue to give thanks throughout the year. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Vivat Jesus! John Brennan District Deputy District 7

Kayak. In dog we trust!! By GK Mike

In early 2019 our Brother Knight Mark Swink and his family decided to help train service dogs. They started by acclimating young Kayak, a black Labrador puppy. Brother Mark took Kayak everywhere, the store, the gym, the grocery store; he even sought approval from the Diocese and Fr. Aldrin to bring Kayak to Mass. With much appreciation for Fr. Aldrin’s support Mark took Kayak to Mass every Sunday until she was ready to ship out to her formal training. Kayak made a huge impression on Mark’s family and while away he frequently found myself secretly praying Kayak would fail her training so she could become his family companion. In late October Brother Mark learned Kayak passed her training. Because Kayak was first trained by Mark’s family they were invited to her graduation ceremony to say goodbye. It was providential to learn, Kayak was paired up with a blind person who was Catholic! Mrs. Marie Reed, is a pre-school teacher at Immaculata Catholic School in Hendersonville, NC. https://www.immac.org/about/faculty.html. Although Br. Mark prayed his family could keep her he then understood why God had other plans. Because Mark helped Kayak learn how to navigate our parish church pews, the Lord found Kayak’s calling Mrs. Marie can safely go to mass!

Protect Yourself During Flu Season with these simple precautions:

Get vaccinated! Vaccination is the most important way to prevent the spread of the flu. For additional information about seasonal flu vaccine priorities, see Key Facts About Seasonal Flu Vaccine. Vaccine Stay at home if you are sick. The CDC recommends that workers who have a fever and respiratory symptoms stay at home until 24 hours after their fever ends (100 degrees Fahrenheit [37.8 degrees Celsius] or lower), without the use of medication. Not everyone who has the flu will have a fever. Other symptoms could include a runny nose, body aches, headache, tiredness, diarrhea, or vomiting

hand washing is possible. When using an alcoholbased hand rub, apply liquid to palm of hand, cover all surfaces of the hands with the liquid, and rub hands together until dry. Woman sneezing into a tissue Keep frequently touched common surfaces (e.g., telephones, computer equipment, etc.) clean. Try not to use a coworker's phone, desk, office, computer, or other work tools and equipment. If you must use a coworker’s equipment, consider cleaning it first with a disinfectant. Avoid shaking hands or coming in close contact with coworkers and others who may be ill. Stay in shape. Eat a healthy diet. Get plenty of rest, exercise, and relaxation. Speak with your doctor and find out if you are in a high risk category for seasonal flu (e.g., elderly, pregnant women, small children, persons with asthma, etc.).

Washing hands Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds; use an alcoholbased hand rub if soap and water are not available.

Participate in any training offered by your employer. Make sure that you understand how to stay healthy at work.

Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes.

Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, or cough and sneeze into your upper sleeve(s). Throw tissues into a "no-touch" wastebasket.

SK Richard Westerfeld Health Services Program

Clean your hands after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose. 1.When using soap and water, rub soapy hands together for at least 20 seconds, rinse hands with water, and dry completely. 2.If soap and water are not available, use of an alcohol-based hand rub is a helpful interim measure until November 2019 Navigator
