hy do today what you can put off until tomorrow? Fleur Daugey turns the popular saying and anti-idleness slogan on its head to celebrate procrastination. A consummate procrastinator, the author teaches us the secrets of creative procrastination with one key principle: “shed the guilty!” Using scientific studies and philosophical references, she shows that putting off until tomorrow can be an intuitive way of letting our creativities develop and mature.
Fleur Daugey trained as a psychologist and ethnologist then devoted the start of her career to various ngos before turning to writing. She has published a number of books for young people including La Vie amoureuse des animaux and Les Papas animaux (Actes Sud Junior, 2016 and 2020). She has also published Animaux homos, histoire naturelle de l’homosexualité (Albin Michel, 2018) and L’Intelligence des plantes (Ulmer, 2018). Marie de Monti has illustrated several works for children as well as graphic novels (Mango Jeunesse, Delcourt) and a series of practical guides (First). Procrastiner pour mieux créer is her second contribution to the “Je passe à l’acte” collection.
68 - society > je passe à l’acte
The fact that procrastination has become a personality flaw is due to historical context, modernity and its obsession with productivity leading to exhaustion, burn-out and ill-health. By reconciling ourselves with procrastination we can develop a more tranquil relationship with work and discover working methods in harmony with our own limits and aspirations. This work is an invitation to procrastinate in order to create, but also to know and understand ourselves better.
