A Letter 3 From our Lieutenant Governor Happy Summer Dragons! I hope everyone is enjoying their BEE-utiful summer thus far. The anticipated Region 3 Key Club Beach Boomba / Clean-Up is coming up this Saturday in sunny Huntington Beach. BEE sure to come out for some summer fun and service with the Region 3 family. But what fun will there be you may ask? Well... does pie-ing the LTGs sound fun yet? What about a water balloon fight and a watermelon eating contest? With a sprinkle of ice breakers, there will be lots of activities planned out for every minute of the day so make sure to come on out and enjoy what Beach Boomba has to offer. You will not regret going! With that being said, make sure to bring your $5 entrance fee along with your medical release form. If you would like to purchase / pick-up your 20152016 Division 4 West T-Shirt, BEE sure to bring $13. Try to bring exac t c hange if pos s ibl e pl ease. You all should have your Disney hats on because the August DCM will be at Downtown Disney for our very own Division 4 West Scavenger Hunt. Yes, you read that correctly. You will be given tasks ranging from serenading the guest, building legos in certain shapes, and other great hunting activities. Grab your friend and your camera to record your Kodak moments. Make sure to continue fundraising with your club for PTP since Fall Rally is closely approaching. If you read up to this point, DO NOT stop. Continue on with the rest of the issue because your lovely Division News Editor, Aileen Nguyen, has some great information for you in stored. Once again, enjoy your summer Dragons and I will be you all very soon.

Summerfest On June 28th, we volunteered at the Summer Fest at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center along with Kiwanis. There, we helped set up the booth itself and helped out with the food court, which they as well needed help. The managers also had us clean up the tables and set up trashcans near the food court. Tim and Art, the Fountain Valley Kiwanis Advisors had us organize the booth and set up the grill. Overall, summer fest was fun, as members began to bond with each other while also meeting other members from FVHS. As people began finishing their shifts, they hung out with their friends at the park enjoying the rides and watching the entertainment provided by the fest's stage. The entertainment was involved with volunteers who signed up including some of our own members who had before been shy when it came to a big crowd. In the end Summer Fest was a good experience for our members to interact with their community and meet some of the Kiwanis board members who have been devoted to the community for years.

Officer Traning 9 OTC was a fun yet educational experience to add on to our current knowledge of how to be a better board member. A fraction of our board attended, and we got to know people from different schools along with different divisions. For the first workshop, we split up by position and went into the directed rooms. The Vice President workshop consisted of all the different Vice Presidents from our region. By having discussions on how to help out club thrive, the most important thing we learned was to assist our president. For the second workshop, our board once again split up to go to what we thought was the most important thing to learn. The fundraising workshop gave me a broader understanding of which organizations we donate to, and also what different schools do to raise money. Overall, OTC was entertaining yet stimulating .

The first ever Dragon Games was an enjoyable event that helped us to get out of our shells. After the DCM we were numbered off into different groups to compete against one another to see who would emerge victorious in the end. Being put into random groups allowed for people who wouldn't normally talk to one another to make new friends. It was very entertaining and exciting to see everyone battling it out, messing around, and having fun. The groups rotated and took turns facing off in different types of games, such as relay races, volleyball, and water balloon tosses. I hope that this will become an annual event that we can continue to improve on and make better each year since it is different from our usual events. Cindy Nguyen, Marina High School Key Club

My Key Club Story
Key Club is a crystal. The core values, different types of service events, ways to reach out to the community, and friendships made, all contribute to a beautifully multi -faceted organization that I am proud to be a key role in as a member.
high school community service club piqued my interest. Throughout my childhood, my parents have set an example of service through their volunteering and having me help as well in the church, school, and community. Key Club seemed like the perfect continuation of this.
One of the facets of Key Club is time. Things change, people change, the world changes. Time can be wasted or spent in service. It can be used to learn, grow, and mature in leadership. Over the span of my first and freshman year, I’ve learned that time in Key Club is the most significant to me because it teaches love of service, confidence, compassion, and how to hold a level of humility in leadership positions.
Over the months, Key Club revealed more of its crystal facets. I spoke with one of my friends from a different school and they too were in this Key Club; collecting money for the UNICEF Trick-OrTreat boxes. I didn’t even known clubs could be interschool and this changed my perspective in the sense I was serving something on a much larger scale. I learned Key Club is more than club, division, region, or district; it is international.
At the beginning of my time in Key Club, I joined through Club Rush because the idea of a being part of a

19 “At this point my Key Club story has many years to build upon it Deciding to go for club president has made Key Club the pinnacle of my life and awakened a passion and blistering happiness in my heart in learning that every little thing I work towards helps the club I serve grow, and ultimately the Key Club, school, and city community. The first time I truly saw my reflection in Key Club was was at the Kiwanis Family Fun Day Easter Hunt, my first event as president. From seeing the importance of our sponsoring Kiwanis interaction, to connecting the club I serve with other clubs, to the idea I have to know and always be aware of what directions the club it's being given; it was a real learning experience. One of the things enjoyable about Key Club is that many service event gems recur again. Past Kiwanis hosted events like Family Fun Or Pancake Day, or international events such as Eliminate Month and Fall Rally repeat themselves annually so they sustain their
fundraising or service impact over and over again. Fundraising for preferred charities such as Project Eliminate and Pediatric Trauma Program, volunteering at local events, and seeing children's smiles is absolutely fascinating. But, it's being able to do this all alongside fellow members aka family who truly do define caring and inclusiveness as their way of life. At this point my Key Club story has many years to keep building upon it with the gems of service, caring, and learning key meaning of our club's service in the world. Probably, the clearest thing I have discovered this year is that the most effective and passionate service is changing the world not through one person, but many <3
