A Letter 3 From our Lieutenant Governor

Hey Dragons! Can you BEE-lieve that school is starting? Good luck to all the underclassman as they take on new difficult courses and good luck to all of the upperclassmen with the SATs, ACTs, and college applications / common applications. There will be a lot of stress this upcoming fall season, but we can all persevere through it and make this year the best! Whenever you get too overwhelmed with the activities you partake, remember to take a step back and give yourself a break from time to time. There is no need to constantly work on homework for 5 hours straight, so take short breaks between every 2 hours to allow your brain to not fried out. But... you do not have to only deal with stress during the Fall season, but you can participate in Key Club to help you get away for at least a day. Division 4 West has many events coming up soon, so be prepared for them coming your way. We have Fall Rally South coming up on November 14th (save the date!), Surf City 10k, an ice skating fundraiser in October, Region Training Conference, and so much more! I cannot wait to see everyone at the next DCM.

Tina Nguyen Division 4 West Lieutenant Governor

Kaitlyn Ung , I hope everyone is having an awesome summer before the start of a new year filled with tons more memories & forming friendships! For the upcoming school year, I am more than excited to seeing many faces in the Division 4 West family! Seeing the amount of members increasing will increase their participation by planning numerous socials & events within the Division during the school year. Can't wait to see you all at our August DCM. Also, please don't forget to continue fundraising for PTP for the near Fall Rally

Michelle Bui , With summer coming to an end and school resuming in session, that means newBEEs, particularly DRAGONS, to join our wonderful organization. As your Service EXPO Task Coordinator, I will be working with each club, particularly working closely with the presidents, to ensure a terrific turnout at Club Rush by preparing trifolds, flyers, banners, etc. to retain membership and welcome these new individuals into our dragon ohana. Stay tuned as I wave my wand for a magical term.

Bridget Ton , Summer is coming to an end BUT THAT'S OKAY because we have many events coming up including our August DCM! When school starts, I am very excited to see new faces at some of the events! Stay cool 4 west and see yall later, alligators!

Teryn Ngo , Summer went by really fast this year but many memories were made! For the upcoming school year I hope to recruit more members not only from the incoming grade but the others as well! I hope to have more events that will give the members a reason to stay in key club ! YAYS FOR SCHOOL COMING AROUND THE CORNER! (jks)

Kendall Nakai,

HYPE FOR NEW SCHOOL YEAR AND CLUB RUSH IS REAL. From new member recruitment by a poster making party for posters around the school, food incentives, our booth with fliers and the meaning of Key Club, and more, Ocean View Key Club hopes to recruit by showing our leadership initiative, community service outreach, and small school but strong spirit. WEEZ GONNA GO ALL OUT and show Ocean View how we feel. . Hope you dragons enjoyed the heat of summer *wink* and we'll see all your lovely faces around in the new school year.

Jonathan Wong, Hello Division 4 West! The summer is drawing to a close but rather than being sad be happy! This is a chance to recruit new members and come into contact with our current members on a more regular and direct basis. This coming year I plan to advertise Key Club more around school and especially to the incoming freshmen. I wish to educate the potential members on exactly what it is that we do. Through this I hope that we can make this school

Brianna Song , As summer is finally coming to a close, our board has been actively talking about our exciting plans for the upcoming year! We plan to do a lot more fundraisers, and to try to expand our club further to not only the incoming freshmen, but upperclassmen as well. For those of us that are on Link Crew and summer activities, we are talking about the benefits of Key Club to fellow peers, as well as how fun it is. We are looking forward to a great year!

Jasmine Le, It's that time of the year again when school starts and kids cry! My plans for the upcoming school year is to increase membership retention, as well as raise more money for charity, and just overall have a smooth term. Hopefully, members will be attracted to our core values and beliefs, as well as the opportunity for

Hector Bustos, Hey Dragons! Summer has been a very busy time for me. I've found myself caught up in a lot of things, which is generally a good thing for me. I want to make this year's club rush a BANG! I would like to get as many people as possible to attend our first meeting! We usually have 100+ our first meeting after club rush & I hope to do this, this year as well!

Nathan Vo , For the upcoming school year, I plan to advertise Key Club at Huntington Beach High School through showing how D04W is the best. By informing students of the volunteering opportunities Key Club offers and attracting them by showing dragon spirit, I hope to increase Huntington Beach High Schools partitication in service events and overall make HBHS a more reputable school in the Kiwanis community.

Cindy Nguyen , This upcoming school year I plan on encouraging freshmen to make the best decision they could in high school, to join Key Club! I hope that we'll be able to show them the fun loving atmosphere that we have while we're serving our community.

My Key Club Story:

Wow. Looking back at my roots from when I first joined Key Club to now has really gotten me to appreciate how far I’ve gotten through my ups and downs in this club, which I have put so much of my effort in. I think of my Key Club Story as a journey where I have learned much from my many mistakes resulting in humility and leadership skills. I’ll try to make this short so enjoy! When I graduated from the eighth grade, my parents forced me to go to Fountain Valley High School, since they have the best academics in my school district. This made me have to start a new journey with no friends and no clear path to follow, but Key Club changed that. At first, Key Club was just an organization that I heard about from a friend. I noticed her growth in Key Club during my years before high school. As president of Westminster Key Club, she revived her struggling club as she rebuilt her home, school, and community. The way she contributed and impacted all those around her inspired me to write my name down on the sign-up list at Club Rush. Throughout my freshman year, I came across and applied for three leadership opportunities: Freshman Representative, Club Spirit Coordinator, and Division Spirit Coordinator. I was unable to receive the first two positions, but our Intermediate Past Lieutenant Governor, Christina Tran, chose to make my third attempt the charm. From my experiences as a Division Spirit Coordinator, I learned how to lead, teach others, and communicate and work with different types of people in addition to how important it is to uphold one’s duty. Meeting friends through Key Club has given me different perspectives on life and identity. These friends would help me through my downs to discover the faults within myself and strive to ameliorate them. Through my journey in this club I’ve learned to work hard to be part of something greater, to be humble, to be appreciative of what I’m provided, to fight for what I believe in, and to be a servant leader; not a leader who worked alone, but a leader who works with others to serve the world. Joining Key Club is by far the best decision I have made in my entire life. To end, I’d like to just say one thing: If something bad happens to you, moping around and complaining about it isn’t going to do anything. Get off your butt and keep moving forward.

Brian Nguyen, Fountain Valley

Concerts In the Park Concerts in the Park is an event that

Fountain Valley participates in every year. It is a weekly, summer event that is held at Mile Square Park. Members are able to come volunteer by helping set up for the event, controlling parking, and selling raffle tickets throughout the event. The members are able to volunteer, socialize with friends, and listen to some fun music with everybody while having an overall have a great time at the event.

Teryn Ngo, Foutain Valley High School

During this past weekend, one of our division's biggest events, Beach Boomba, took place. It was region-wide event, in which key clubbers from all different divisions came together for a fun-filled day at the beach. To start the day off, many icebreakers were held, such as "Pancho" and the Human Knot game. These games were not only fun, but most also tested the members abilities of teamwork and compatibility. In addition to that, this gave the members a chance to meet and interact with other key clubbers, forming new bonds and blooming friendships. Although the weather remained hot as the day wore on, this didn't stop individuals from participating in the games. The games ranged the water balloon tosses to a watermelon eating contest. To add on, there was also a mini beach cleanup for the mess made after the water balloons. However, I'd say the "Pieing the LTG's" event was the highlight of the day. In my opinion, Beach Boomba could have been better. I may have lost interest in playing the games, but I'm still looking forward in attending Emily Son, Marina High School

9 HB KIWANIS JULY FOURTH On Saturday, July 4th Marina Key Club volunteered at the Pancake Breakfast hosted by Kiwanis of Huntington Beach. Volunteers woke up really early to help prepare for the people arriving later that morning. As families started to come through, students organized everything in an organized fashion and we started an assembly line! A required donation of $5 had to be given at the front, and then the people went through the line and volunteers served pancakes, eggs, sausages and then syrup and butter at the very end. We also received really nice red shirts so all the volunteers had their own look. Some Marina students served the food while others helped carry the food from the cooking stations to the serving area. Volunteers also helped in serving water, juice or coffee to the families. Overall, it was a nice way to start off the holiday with a nice family environment and seeing everyone

RECOGNITION Officer of the Month

Frankie Pfeifer, Edison Frankie goes to every club and division event, which is expected of a board officer. He maintains his punctuality even if that means he has to ride his bike super fast to make it on time to board meetings. He consistently contributes new ideas and is fun to be around.

Club of the Month

Marina High School Dragon of the Month

Jun Ahn

He's been one of the most active members from Fountain Valley. He's a delight to have around and the community people including the recreational center employees adore him. He's one of the few members who truly show up to events to volunteer.

Marina always has an incredible number of events, usually at least one a week. They always have a large amount of members attend these events; members that are dedicated to improving the community and improving social contacts. Marina's board has always worked together peacefully and friendly. Marina is the model Key Club with an exceptional amount of members, events, and unity.
