PAST EVENTS
SANDWICH MAKING DCM S andwich making at the Fountain Valley Recreational Center was a great experience. I was able to meet many new people and communicate with other club members. We had common interests and were able to speak our minds whilst we made sandwiches for the Orange County Rescue Mission. This opportunity taught valuable lessons about caring for those in need and bonding over a specific activity. The event was lively and energetic, clearly depicting Huntington Beach’s spirit. I believe that this event was a great success to spread awareness about Key Club and about the OC Rescue Mission. It was a truly humbling experience and it was a pleasure to be there.

OC FOOD BANK PACKING
M
arina Key Club yet again, has contributed greatly back to their community. This time, we were able to help out at the OC food bank while packaging numerous amount of boxes filled with food for the lower income. There was music playing, people smiling, and everyone was able to contribute to each and every box packaged. It was fun-filled experience filled with nothing but laughter. I look forward to the future that lies within Marina key club and D4W!

MOVIES IN THE PARK
M
ovies at the Park took place at Green Valley Park on the Friday of August 14th. Jun Ahn and Ky Nguyen, fellow members, were assigned tasks such as helping out a saleswoman and working the ice cone station. I was given the task of making popcorn over at the popcorn station. While we were working, those who weren’t volunteers enjoyed the movie, “How to Train Your Dragon.” Fortunately, there was always an attendee that wanted popcorn or an ice cone so our volunteers had something to do for the entirety of the event.

his club took the initiative to begin club meetings even before they found a new faculty advisor to
replace Mr. Green (whom moved to Lake Forest when the term ended). They have actively searched and asked staff members to be apart of the Key Club family and to oversee them for the rest of the term. Although this club is small in size, they are building

compromise with her activities director. Having to deal with different rules due to going to a private school is difficult to cope with, but as a club presi-

MY KEY CLUB STORY STEVEN CHUN, EDISON KEY CLUB
H
ello Dragons, for those of you who don’t know me (probably most of you) my name is Steven Chun. I’m probably better known as Elaine Le’s Boyfriend, that quiet kid that follows Elaine around, that one Edison kid, or maybe even that one kid who magically tricked Elaine into liking him or something. Anyways, I am the Edison Key Club News Editor/Publicist/Bulletin Editor?/Spirit Chair maybe, and this is my Key Club Story. Contrary to many other Key Clubbers, I actually didn’t join Key Club my freshman year, and I had no desire whatsoever to. My lady friend Elaine had joined at the beginning of the school year and had been constantly trying to convince me to join. Of course, me being the antisocial, unspirited person I am, I refused to join over and over thinking that Key Club was just a club full of some Asian kids who liked to do cheers. Little did I know, I was (mostly) wrong. So a year full of pictures and stories about Key Club, along with constant reminders to join, goes by and we’re about midway through the school year. For whatever reason, I finally cave and consider joining this “Key Club” thing that Elaine keeps talking about, but club rush has already passed. Lucky for me, the Key Club Gods just had to have me, and they brought Edison ASB to put together a second Club Rush. In the middle of some month (February or something, I don’t remember LOL), I finally join Key Club thinking, “at least it’ll give me extra time to spend with Elaine and I’ll be able to put it on my college apps.” I go to my first official meeting and hear about all the different community service opportunities. No cheers or anything, just helping out the community and making a difference in the world. This is how I fell in love with Key Club and better yet, service. For the rest of the term, I grew closer and closer to many of my fellow club members and I proceeded to participate in any events I possibly could. I eventually ran for a board position and was lucky enough to have no one run against me. My goal became to vastly improve Edison’s deteriorating club, to prove all the Edison Key Club Haters wrong (not gonna throw shade but it might have been Elaine a little bit) and most importantly, to make the two guys who graciously welcomed me to the club in the first place (former Vice President Alvin Phan and President Andrew Oeung) proud. As you can see, I joined Key Club for the wrong reasons, but ended up falling in love with it for the right ones. What began as a way to stack up my college applications turned into one of my favorite things to do and one of the things I look forward to most when I’m a sad little ball of stress and schoolwork during the year. It has slowly brought me out of my antisocial shell that I’ve been stuck in for as long as I can remember (Yes, I was more quiet before. Hard to believe, I know). My Key Club experience has taught me to be open to new people, experiences, and opportunities, no matter how horrible it initially seems to be. It’s also taught me to take the time to think about others before I think about myself, and that every once in a blue moon, Elaine can prove me wrong. I truly believe that Key Club has impacted my life in a multitude of ways and I like to think that it’s improved me as a person. They say that high school is a time in your life where you truly find yourself, and I am no exception. I thoroughly believe that Key Club has been a KEY part of my high school career and of my pathway towards adulthood. My Key Club experience may not seem that great or special, but to me, it’s been incredible. In conclusion, I’d like to thank all of you, whether you’ve met me or not, for being a part of it. :’)
