“On the 21st, I got to school at 8 and Ms. Harada took us to Meals on Wheels. This was my second time attending this event, so I was already familiar to the tasks and environment. I felt honored to volunteer at Meals on Wheels because they provide seniors with hot meals throughout the entire day. We began our service event by placing lunch items into the paper lunch bags. Then we would roll up these bags and place them in cardboard boxes to be delivered by other volunteer drivers. After we waited until the dinner food was ready to be placed in their containers. Then we set up in an assembly line form and begin to place food items onto these trays. I personally resupplied the items that were running out. However other volunteers, would place these items onto their designed spots on the tray. Then I would resupply these items and make it more accessible to them by placing them more closely. I was in charge of providing the cole-slaw, peaches and puree. After the first batch of dinners were prepared, I was able to place garlic bread onto the tray. Then I would slide the trays to the next person. A little bit longer and we were finished with the meals for dinner. These hot meals were then placed into their vehicles to be distributed amongst the elderly. Then we shortly organized the plastic trays to make it easier for the rest of the week, because Meals on Wheels helps and serves these people on a daily basis. It was an amazing experience and would recommend other members to attend this event whenever possible. It is a great opportunity to meet new people while helping the community!

“My experience volunteering for House of Arts was quite nice and enjoyable. I went to go volunteering for this event with fellow Key Clubbers and my close friends, Steve and Van, We arrived at the auditorium, where House of Arts was taking place, an hour or so before the event started and were greeted with delicious treats, such as donuts and cookies, which were prepared for us by our school’s Leadership team (which gave us lots of energy throughout the event). At the event we were directed by the Leadership team to put up posters on the walls and to make sure visitors and performers signed in before entering the event. Just before the event was starting, things got quite hectic with all the visitors and performers rushing into the auditorium, but all in all it was quite manageable and enjoyable because of the convivial atmosphere. When all the commotion died down and all the visitors and performers were in the auditorium, our time shift was over and we got to see the wonderful performances of our classmates. I am very grateful towards the Leadership team for being so patient and considerate towards us and all the people who volunteered. I encourage my fellow Key Clubbers, if they have time next year, to go and help lay some of the burden off our Leadership team in preparing for the House of Arts.”

Member of the Month March 2015 - Steve Carbajal “Our first ‘Thunderpup of the Month’ goes to Steve Carbajal! Currently a sophomore, it is truly evident that he loves Key Club and the service opportunities the club has to offer. Not only does he attend these service events, but he attends with a smile and eagerness to help. For the month of March, he has volunteered at our school’s talent show and participated in our March DCM. At “House of Arts” he helped set up to make sure everything was organized and would run smoothly. Then throughout the whole event, he happily assisted student guests signing in and signing out. Also any questions you had, he was the person to ask. If he didn’t know, he would make sure he found someone who would help. Then he attended the March DCM. He was early and he helped make PB&J sandwiches. Even though he did not know many people there, he was not shy to make friends and show off his spirit during the cheer rehearsal! Steve is passionate about Key Club and is hoping to spark that same interest in other members and upcoming freshmen! Keep on rocking, Thunderpup!”

Officer of the Month March 2015 - Lizelle Oreno “For the month of March, our Officer of the Month is Lizelle Oreno! This is the first month of her term being President and has done an outstanding job! Inspired by the old board and Key Club’s spirit, she has felt the urge to take the next step in her Key Club career! Currently a sophomore, she has been able to manage time to make sure the club has been doing well! She has many ideas to help our members and club reach their highest Key Club potential! These new ideas include, our Key Club website, t-shirts, icebreakers, and many more to come! To top it all off, she always brings positive energy and spirit to the club, which encourages our members to participate and be more involved! She also takes care behind the scenes by making sure beforehand the meetings will run smoothly and bringing the board on the same page! By uniting the board, they are able to communicate and create new ideas and methods as a whole to benefit the club and members! Lizelle has started her new term extremely well! However we know it will only get better as the year progresses! Good luck Lizelle, you have definitely earned Officer of the Month!”
