Paul Lima tells how his father, a military man, traveler and international businessman, “talked about his love for Latin America”.

Paul was born in Panama; his father is Portuguese, and his mother is Cuban. He grew up in Seattle and, when he was 12, he left with his family for Miami.

He was in the Army like his dad. After graduating from high school, he entered the West Point Military Academy. He described the experience as “an operation without anesthesia” that, “when you come out the other side, you’re better for it”, as he told AL DÍA in an interview.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever have another experience in my life where the whole infrastructure is designed to support your professional development”, he said about his time in the Army.

The results and his activity there were decisive for what he did next. He became one of the founding officers of the country’s first cyberwarfare unit at the Pentagon. There he brought his interest in innovation into play.

That experience was fundamental. From 1998 to 2004, he served as senior product manager at SEI Investments, a fiduciary accounting platform with global reach. Simultaneously, he completed a master’s degree in technology management at Wharton. It couldn’t have been a better decision. To the leadership he molded in the Army, he added more knowledge and took the next step: becoming an entrepreneur.

In 2004 he created Lima Consulting Group to help organizations develop, implement and optimize digital initiatives. He has a presence in the United States, as well as in Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre, Brazil.

In Philadelphia, on the other hand, Lima has had a close relationship with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, of which he is a member of the Board of Directors and was its president. The latter, he supported about 18,000 Hispanic entrepreneurs in financial literacy training, access to capital and business growth.

“The fact that these companies are growing and staying in business shows that there is a lot of willingness to work hard and do the work that others don’t want to do”, he said.

A FILM THAT’S GOING FOR THE GOYA

This edition also includes an article on the Colombian film La Jauría, by director Andrés Ramírez Pulido. It is the story of the relationships and conflicts between adolescence and the father figure. The setting is the city of Ibagué, in central-western Colombia.

La Jauría is competing for the Goya Awards in the category Best Ibero-American Film. It debuted in 2022 at Cannes and is expected to be in commercial cinemas in the US soon, as well as on streaming platforms.z

Paul nació en Panamá, su papá es portugués y su mamá es cubana. Creció en Seattle y cuando tenía 12 años se fue con su familia para Miami.

Estuvo en el Ejército como su papá. Luego de graduarse en el instituto, entró a la Academia Militar de West Point. Definió esa experiencia como “una operación sin anestesia” que, “cuando sales por el otro lado, eres mejor por ello”. Así lo contó en una entrevista con AL DÍA

“No sé si volveré a tener otra experiencia en mi vida en la que toda la infraestructura esté diseñada para apoyar tu desarrollo profesional”, dijo al referirse a su paso por el Ejército.

Y los resultados y su actividad allí fueron determinantes para lo que hizo después. Se convirtió en uno de los oficiales fundadores de la primera unidad de ciberguerra del país en el Pentágono. Allí puso en juego su interés por la innovación. Esa experiencia fue clave. Entre 1998 y 2004, se desempeñó como como director de producto senior en SEI Investments, una plataforma de contabilidad fiduciaria con alcance mundial. Simultáneamente, realizó un máster en gestión tecnológica en Wharton. Mejor decisión, imposible. Al liderazgo que moldeó en el Ejército le agregó más conocimiento y dio el siguiente paso: convertirse en empresario.

En 2004 creó Lima Consulting Group para ayudarles a organizaciones en el desarrollo, implementación y optimización de iniciativas digitales. Tiene presencia en Estados Unidos, además de Sao Paulo y Porto Alegre, en Brasil.

En Filadelfia, por otra parte, Lima ha tenido una estrecha relación con la Cámara de Comercio Hispana, de la que es miembro de la Junta Directiva y fue su presidente. En este último cargo apoyó a unos 18.000 empresarios hispanos en la capacitación en temas financieros, en el acceso a capital y en el crecimiento de sus negocios.

“El hecho de que esas empresas crezcan y se mantengan en el mercado demuestra que hay mucha voluntad de trabajar duro, de arremangarse y hacer el trabajo que otros no quieren hacer”, indicó.

Una Cinta Que Va Por Los Goya

Asimismo, esta edición incluye un artículo sobre la película colombiana La Jauría, del director Andrés Ramírez Pulido. Es la historia de lo que son las relaciones y los conflictos entre la adolescencia y la figura paterna. El escenario es la ciudad de Ibagué, en el centro-oeste colombiano. La Jauría compite por los Premios Goya en la categoría ‘Mejor Película Iberoamericana’. Debutó en el 2022 en Cannes y se espera que esté pronto en los cines comerciales de los Estados Unidos, así como en plataformas de streaming. z
