or retired Barnstable Police Department Lt. David Cameron, the Pops by the Sea has been a longstanding tradition. What started as a professional endeavor — Lt. Cameron’s introduction to the event was as an officer working the Pops detail — soon evolved into a labor of love. Lt. Cameron’s bond with the signature summer event only grew as he served on the Pops Steering Committee for over 10 years. In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings and prior to the 2013 Pops concert, Lt. Cameron and Barnstable Police Sergeant Michael Damery went to Boston, working with the FBI, Massachusetts State Police, and the Boston Police Department to ensure that those performing at and attending the concert would have a safe and enjoyable time. Audiences familiar with the Pops may have noticed a recent tradition: our Honorary Chair is led to their table at the start of the evening by a bagpiper and drummer. Behind those pipes is none other than Lt. Cameron with his trusty sidekick, Katie Zanello, on drums. Lt. Cameron is a member of the Colum Cille Pipes & Drums. Lt. Cameron is the proud father of two children: Andrew is a scientist at Biogen in Cambridge, and Katie is a guidance counselor at Nauset Regional High School. A

35-year veteran of the Barnstable Police Department, Lt. Cameron retired from the force at the end of January. The AFCC expresses gratitude to Lt. David Cameron for his commitment to public service, the community, and the arts. We are pleased to recognize him as this year’s Pops by the Sea Honorary Chair.
