UCENA CITY - Once again, a big portion of Mt. San Cristobal was hit by fire which environment authorities suspect to have been deliberately done by trekkers. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Executive Director Reynulfo Juan said they are still
investigating the incident amid reports from his personnel that there was a big probability of arson. Protected Area Superintendent Sally Pangan said the fire started at the Quezon side of the mountain along “Kalbaryo ni Herodes” in Bgy. Sta. Lucia in Dolores town at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. She said it scattered upward until late evening. Pangan said there was no
longer blaze on the afternoon of Wednesday but there was still continuing smoke in the area. She estimated the damage in the rocky and grassland area at around 50 hectares.
