LEGENDS MANUAL > CONTENTS

REGIONAL DIFFERENCES

League of Legends is world spread and famous game, there are several regional esport events and different teams. One number will cover them all? No, unfortunately not, it is not possibile. The book will be too big and people might no be interest in knowing what happened in the others Leagues. For this reason, the content of the magazine will change according the the region it is sold. The main reason for this choice are the fact that people from Europe will be more interested in general in knowing what happened in their region and show no interest in the ones far away from them. It would be a waste of time and money for people to buy a book and then have to search through thousands of articles the one they are interest about. Since this book is a yearly release one, the content inside of it will be different from region to region regarding only the part about regional esport. For example if you buy this book in europe you’ll have the regional esport part talking about the LEC (the european league competition) and not about the LCS, LPL or LCK, the ather major regional competition around the world. If you’re from the States you’ll end up with the regional esport part talking about the LCS (the american competition). In the end the only difference you’ll find regionally are regarding the esport of every region. The others articles and information in the book will be the same for every region around the world. This seemed the most logical reason to create a product thousands of people would want to buy. It is thought in every choice made, everything is created by the players for the players. We want to give something you can touch to remember the year we passed together, and we want it to be special for you as it was for us to create.

19

LEGENDS MANUAL > WELCOME MESSAGE

WELCOME MESSAGE At the beginning of each book there will always be a welcome message with the intention of thanking the player for buying the project in the first place. Then the book will be explained very shortly, adding also some minor spoilers to make the reader interested in knowing what will come next. It is to be noted that people who will buy this book probably already know what to expect, so this introduction paragraph should serve to all those who have not been quite active during the year or maybe because they lost some of the major events that happened. No matter what the welcome message should be interesting even to the player who constantly played and stayed updated on the news and the esport events. On the right we have the introduction message for the season 9. As it can be notice the messagge is written down as a letter and at the end there must some of the classical letter parts. In this page we will also have the logo of the developer of the game, Riot Games. In the following introduction pages regarding the esport events, it is not necessary to put the logo. The main important feature to have in the welcome message are: - Letter form - Thanking the player and buyer - Riot Games’ Logo Every year we have a different art representing some of the main champions, and we will use it in this particular share, covering a bit of the messagge page. The image will change according to the new one released. It is to be noted that it must be a general image about the game, not some spash art or cinematic scene. A generic image of the new season.

LEGENDS MANUAL > ESPORT INTRO PAGES

ESPORT INTRODUC GENERAL INFORMATIONS

Before reading articles regarding different topic we alwasy have the introduction page. We have two main introductory pages and they serve the same purpose but they are about two very different topic. There can’t be a new topic without the presence of a page that introduces it, in order to have some cronological order and to help people understand what we are talking about there’s a need for a page with the function of introduction the topic.

ESPORT INTRODUCTION PAGES

The main difference between the two different pages we can have is simple: one is for esport events and the other more graphical for general events. Esport is a very big part of the League of Legends world so we always will have this page that serve to introducte it giving small information and mainly thanking the fans for sticking arount to create this beautiful events. There are some very important feature that cannot miss inside this spread: - The logo of the esport competition or the graphical elements of it. - A letter to the reader - The name of the event and the year - The dates of the event (from and to) It is important to hightlight that having a vectorial graphic of the logo of the esport event might be hard sometimes, so it’s import to substitute it with some graphical elements that can recall it also with the usage of color. For minor events like Rift Rivals we don’t need a page like this one, we can simply stick to the general events. It’s already in between the Summer Split and it would be confusing for people who do not know very well the timing of this competition between two regions. It’s better to introduce it with a graphical image and simply stating that the next articles will be about Rift Rivals.

GENERAL EVENTS INTRODUCTION PAGES

Regarding the general event introduction pages are used mainly to introduce important event that are not regarding esport. Some elements are mandatory: - Graphical photo or image regarding the event - Name of the event The events are different every year and none of them will repeat.

LEGENDS MANUAL > SONG PAGES

SONG PAGES GENERAL INFORMATIONS

Every year Riot Games releases various songs to celebrate esport event but also the start of the season. We will alwasy have two to three songs regarding the start of the season, the song for the world championship and a song in collaboration with internation artist presenting a new skin line. Players wait every year for the release of the songs and for the cinematic which is alwasy a great part of the song. In the book we give space to this products a lot of people love, also teasing something for the next one they will read about but also what they will probably listen next year.

IMAGES AND TEXT

Songs are a great part of the League of Legends game and cinematic are used a lot to tell stories while the song is playing. Player love to be able to also see the champion they are playing on they pc. Can we exclude the amazing work of animators? Of course not! The dimension of the image and the form of it it’s the same as the introductin message from Riot Games. Every song page must have an image representing the song, and it’s better if one of the most famous screen is used. For example in the cinematic of Phoenix it’s very iconic this shot of the character so it’s used to represent the song. Since a song has a name and people who sing it, it’s required to also have it written down, using the main colors of the cinematic. There are are some specific number regarding the point of the fonts that must be used. Font: Mark Black Song Name: 124pt Artist Name: 30 pt

LEGENDS MANUAL > CHAMPION PAGES

CHAMPION PAGES GENERAL INFORMATIONS

Riot Games releases every year new champions but also rework the oldest one to adjust their kit to the current state of the game. The introduction of the new champion or the rework of some of them is always very important, most of the time it changes the state of the game and affects the competitive games with a very big impact.

SPLASH ART

The first thing needed to intruduce a new champion is to the it’s splash art images in hight quality. For every champion it is required to have the the original splash art to create the first page. The essential for the first introductory spread are: - Splash Art - Name of the Champion - Subtitle (ex. The Rebel, The Deceiver, The Weapon of the Faithful etc..) every champion has one and it’s important to write it down because it gives a very fast insights of the champion without knowing their abilities. The splash art images for the champion presentation requires a particular image treating, given the fact that the text might not be very readable. Where the name of the character will be place, a color from the splash is required to be taken in order to create a color blur on the side of the image, making the name of the character readable under any background, as it is possible to see in the Qiyana double spread: on the left there’s a brown blur created to make the name more clear to read and comprehend. More detailed information can be found in the pages regarding on how to treat the images to put inside the book and more information on the font name and treating the the page regarding the fonts used in the book.

26

LEGENDS MANUAL > ABILITIES PAGES

ABILITIES PAGES GENERAL INFORMATIONS

Every champion in League of Legends has a unique and special kit that makes him unique. No champion is similar to another. Abilities are what makes a champion an actual champion and it is important to always know all the basic abilities of a champion. For the new releases it’s always interesting to get to know them by what they do in game.

ABILITIES AND IMAGES

In the ability page, it’s mandatory to have a brief description of what an ability of the new or reworked champion does, with active and also passive effects. Abilities do have a name and it’s important to know what they are called: they give more insights on the character. To create an page, which is mandatory and must be present, there are some basic information that cannot miss: - Name and Subititle of the champion - Passive ability name and effects - Q ability name and effects - W ability name and effects - E ability name and effects - R ability name and effects - Champion skin splash art - Champion in game model - Champion quote The champion skin if it is a rework it’s chosen between all the already existing skins the one that fits better the page. Every skin splash art must be treated the same way: it should be cutted in order to give space to the text to be read in a comprehensible way. The quotation of the champion it is to be place over the skin splash art, usyally at the bottom but if it is not possible because of the image underneath, it can be places a little bit highter but it should no reach the middle of the page for any reason. The 3D ingame model of the champion is the only piace that can and cannot be placed. If the spash art makes the page full the 3D model can be avoided. If there is a lot of space after the ability text is placed then the 3D model is mandatory. More information on the font name and treating the the page regarding the fonts used in the book.

27

LEGENDS MANUAL > FINALE PAGES

FINALE PAGES GENERAL INFORMATIONS

Finale pages are one of the most important one in the whole book, they help reader relive very important moment if they follow esport and love a particular team who made the finals, and who knows, maybe won! As for all the other pages and alreasy said in the images, it is very important to have high quality images of the event, before and after the winning of one team. We need this images to help people relive at the best the moment, it’s not online and since on paper it’s very different, we need to do our best to help people live this moment in the best way. Every finale pages will be composed of three main elements, then we will go into details: - What is the esport finale (spring and summer split or worlds event) - Where the finale took place (it changes every year, it’s very important to know) - Who won (of course!)

INTRO FINALE PAGE

The introductory finale page is one of the most important one since it gives the most important information very briefly, introducing to the reader what will happen next. The intro finale page has some special features that are important and must be respected_ - There should always be present the place the finals took place - The name of the winning team - The esport finale event name - Brief summary of what happened - Image of the winning team. The colors of the page depends also on the images we have.

28

GAMES PAGES

Knowing what happened during the games is really important and it helps people remember this event in a very different way: they don’t see it but imagine it and relive in their mind. As for the finale page there are some specific details that cannot miss: - Number of the game (max. 5) - Description of what happened in the game and who won that game - Photos of the players of the two teams It is important to note out that the color of the title of the game must represent the winning team, in that way people will know, if they understand this, already who the winner it. This is a detail that also helps bring the maybe losing team more respect: they fought but in the end they lost.

MVP AND ALL PRO TEAM PAGES

At the end of every split the Most Valuable Players of the split is announced and since it’s a big recognition it’s important to give the player a little space to be celebrated. We will have one spread dedicated only to the players, describing why he desderved it, and of course we can’t forget the name of the player. The colors used in this page will reflect the ones of the player’s team. Regarding the all pro team spread, it more up to the person who page it. It is recommended to use a photo where a team or different players of different team are shown. It is important to tell why this players are the best in they role and of course we need their name and the role they place plus the team they come from. It may happen that sometimes the entire roaster of a team is the all pro team of the split, it is possibile and even in that case we should put the name of the team they are part of.

LEGENDS MANUAL > ICONOGRAPHY

ICONOGRAPHY The iconography present inside the book is inspired by the idea of dynamism, where is found inside some of the graphical elements inside the branding of the League of Legedens identity of the regional competitions. Inspired by the identity already existing of this completition, simple shapes helps creating the movement and dynamism inside the book. The main icon we can found is the lightning, in various colors and forms. It cuts images and it gives movemento to the images. Images are shaped by the quadred and linear shape of the lightning, and in the end, also images presents particular type of cuts inspired by this symbol. The lightlinin is not the only main symbol that can be used inside the magazine. Especially in the part of esport and world championship we have the presence of lots of logos of various team competing. There are some articles about the most import of them, and in this case their logo helps creating movement and shape: with more rounded logo we find more rounded shapes with the images, but also some squared one to create some contrast. The iconography is inspired by the team of the region, the most important one and the one most talked about.
