Enrique Gil, Julia Barretto and Sam Concepcion in ‘Mirabella’
S

Richard Gutierrez getting much needed rest after GMA 7
T

REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer
T
OUR DELAY, GOD’S DELAY
o be human is to be in trouble and to be in trouble is to pray. When we pray we can expect God’s “delays” in answering our prayers. During such delays, many would feel bitter and betrayed. God’s credibility and reliability, when the chips are down, are questioned. Reactions can vary from doubting the goodness of God to even denying the existence God. To be sure, the matter of prayer will remain a mystery. God will escape our human categories to fully understand. As C.S. Lewis pointed out, God is beyond predication. He is the God who is! The eternal “I AM.” Any attempt to define God in absolute terms is nonsense. Such a god is an idol, the creation of the created. But God is knowable through His acts in history, in His Word, and, concretely, in the finality of His disclosure in Christ Jesus. The idea of “delay” strongly suggests that it is temporary and not a finality. In the grammar of prayer, delay is a comma and not a period. Delays tell us that the answers will come – if they have not already come without our notice because we did not expect the kind of answer we want. The Psalmist tells us that in times of delays: “I wait for the Lord … and in his word I put my hope” (Psalm 130:5). This waiting is active and this hope is expectant. Prayer is always prayer plus. Between waiting and hoping is persevering, a process that develops Christian virtues. To wait is to admit that God has the sovereign prerogative to answer our prayers whenever, whatever and wherever is best us. God’s answer is linked with His good plan for us and His glory alone. Delays, however, do have positive values. Delay increase our faith, examine our motives, enable us to see better alternatives, allow us to know God more, mold our character. Delays are precious times that, as Paul puts it, give birth to perseverance, character, love and hope (Rom. 5:1-5). The basis for waiting is our hope in who God is. He is holy (cannot do evil), righteous (cannot do wrong), is Almighty (cannot be limited), faithful (cannot deny His promises), love (cannot ignore our needs), gracious (cannot measure his goodness), and generous (cannot stop giving). God has not abdicated His sovereignty. With Him nothing is impossible. He is immutable – the same yesterday, today and forever. Delays can also be on practical grounds. We will be amused if a three-year old girl asks for a makeup kit for a birthday gift, or when a ten-year old boy ask permission to marry his girlfriend. We will find it ridiculous if we plant an apple seed today and then visit the following day with a basket ready to harvest the fruits. Timing has much to do with delays as much as the wrong subject of prayer. Delays are God’s gracious mechanisms allowing us to correct ourselves and avoid harm. There is a season for everything. Isaiah reminds us that “your (sins) have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear” (59:2). In this sense, His delays are due to our delays to recognize this broken relationship with God ( 1Jn 1:9). Delay is that time to deal with these inequities and make things right with God, to align our will with His, so that God can bless us with optimum wellbeing. And our sins can only be forgiven through Christ Jesus our Lord who will restore that access to our Father when we pray. Jesus said: “I will do whatever you ask in my name …t” (Jn. 14:13). It is important to remember that God is the real object of our prayers. What glorifies Him, and not what will gratify us, should be our primary concern. God’s delays are His ways to guarantee His good plan for us - our destiny. Let us humbly wait upon the Lord who knows what is best for us.Answers to prayer will come – are coming! Amen. Gerard Anderson sets record straight about his love life

No more polit ics for Kris & Boy?
oy Abunda confirmed that Kris Aquino is no longer interested to run in the 2016 elections. But he did not disclose the reason for the actress’ change of plans. Likewise, Abunda also confirmed that he will no longer run for Congressman as earlier reported. His
change of plan is due to his ailing mother, Nanay Lesing. Taking care of his mother is now his priority. But he is not closing his doors on politics, but not in 2016. Abunda also confirmed that Kris reduced her personal staff to five from eight. To why, he will not disclose.
To the reports that Kris is now linked with Derek Ramsay, Abunda dismissed the issue with a laughter. Well, everybody knows that Derek was quick in saying there is no truth to this rumor. But, Kris Aquino, on Monday night, finally admitted that she and Quezon City Mayor Herbert
Bautista are dating. That her relationship with the mayor is a work in progress. Herbert, according to Kris, even got her President brother’s permission to date her. On Kris’ rumored feud with comediane Ai-Ai delas Alas, Abunda thinks that they (Kris and Ai-Ai) will soon patch up things. Right, nothing is permanent in show business…not even friendship.

Are you a worshiper? By Pastor Donald Castro
I
f we will study religion today it is very complex considering that there are roughly about 4200 religions existing, meaning they have different types or style of worship. But as a believer & a follower of Jesus Christ we should worship our God our creator in spirit & in truth as how He commanded us in the Gospel of John 4:23-24. Even in the churches of Christ ‘worship’ is one of the most controversial issue. Sadly, the phrase “worship wars” is used to describe the conflict between various music and service styles. In the Scriptures, the word worship means to bow oneself down in humble respect to a superior being. The goal is to meet and exalt The Lord in our worship. In the Old Testament there is a man who called by God with a pagan background to worship Him. The way he worshipped God is superlative & his obedience amazes me. His name is Abraham, the founding father of the Jewish nation of Israel, was a man of great faith and was very obedient to the will of God. His name in Hebrew means “father of a multitude.” Originally called Abram, or “exalted father,” the Lord changed his name to Abraham as a symbol of the covenant promise to multiply his descendants into a great nation that God would call his own. (Gen. 12). He is the number 1 in the 3 patriarchs of Israel (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob or Israel).
In the life of Abraham we will learned how to worship God in spirit & in truth. In Genesis 22:1-18 ( pls read your bible) God’s greatest test of faith to His servant Abraham -to offer his only son ‘Isaac’ as a sign of worship. How could God do that to Abraham, considering He is a loving God who cares & give life to man, who condemned practiced of human sacrifice as Pagan’s nations do & considering Isaac is the fulfilment of His ‘long time’ promise to Abraham to be the father of multitudes? I could imagine how difficult it was for Abraham to obey God’s command & I would understand if he’ll say no to God & complain but his action surprise me as a father like him, in verse 3 of this chapter it states, ‘Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey’ & ready to go with Isaac & his 2 servants. How did Abraham do that? He just simply knew the voice of God & had a good relationship with Him. He walks closely with Him, already tested God’s faithfulness & power the moment he left his place (Mesopotamia). Not only that, he prepared the altar by bringing woods, knives, fire.. and travelled long distance just to offer his only son Isaac. He is determined to obey as commanded & no question asked! Even letting go of what he deeply love, his own son! Just like our Lord Jesus Christ

In comparison with the previous month, GMA increased its total day margin over ABS-CBN and TV5 in Urban Luzon, from 2.4 to 4.1 points, and from 22.1 to 24.7 points, respectively. Furthermore, majority of the top programs in Urban Luzon belonged to GMA (17 out of 30) with multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho leading all Kapuso shows in the top 30 list. when he gave up his life on the cross, He jus simply followed his Father in heaven “not my Will Father but yours be done.” God did not want Isaac to die, but He wanted Abraham to sacrifice Isaac in his heart so it would be clear that Abraham loved God more than he loved God’s promise & long awaited son. The result of Abraham obedience was abundant blessings! (verses 15-18) Why do you think it was so easy for Abraham to follow and obey God????When this testing came in the life of Abraham, he already established and built his faith with God & known God for long time & walked with Him. Like for instance, in verse 7 when asked by Isaac on where is the lamb for the burnt offering, he said that God Himself will provide (verse 8). Even in verse 5 when he said to his servants to stay while he & his son will go and worship and will both come back. So he knew in his heart that God will do something great.. Abraham learned new thing too about God aside from his commitment to God has been strengthened but also God’s ability to provide in verses 9-14 of this chapter. For us today, if we are about to be tested by God or perhaps undergoing testing - do we really know the voice of God? Are we prepared & ready to get ready to be prepared in times of your trials? or what kind of preparation are you doing? How much time are we spending in prayer & his word, communing with Him. Most of the time we worries on concerns and cares of this life, preparing for work, for our vacations, for our school, for our exams, for our meals, and we even take time to pre-
pare for bed. We basically neglect even to prepare ourselves in worshipping our God during Sundays. We should prepare our hearts and our minds so that we can focus on God more. Our obedience to our God is the secret of all blessings. Whereas God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son Isaac, God did not spare His own Son, Jesus, from dying on the cross. If Jesus had lived, the rest of humankind would have died. God sent His only Son to die for us so that we could be spared from the eternal death we deserve and instead receive eternal life (John 3:16) This month of April is a good time to reflect what Christ did on the cross of Calvary. The Son of God (Jesus Christ) gave up his life as a ransom for many. Did you accept Jesus Christ in your life as Lord & Saviour? If not, say this prayer with me. “Lord I repent of my sins I accept you as my Lord & Saviour of my life, write my name in the book of life. This I pray in Jesus name amen! ot long after the Cantor family migrated to Canada from Europe, Edward Cantor began selling small items (Buttons, Zippers, Thread, etc.) to the farmers surrounding Winnipeg. Possibly encouraged by the farmers he sold stuff to, he opened Cantors first location on Magnus Avenue close to the Salter Bridge. This was in the days of the barter system where you could get most of the daily grocery needs met by trading goods or services for what you needed. Joe and Oscar Cantor have been the lifeblood behind Cantors Quality Meats and Groceries since their father’s death in 1944. Joe had just returned home from the Navy when his father, Edward, passed on. Twin brothers Joe & Oscar, with their mother, took over the store. Moving the store to its current location, Joe soon found himself working 12 to 16 hour days, 7 days a week. After a short while, though, this was cut back to the store not being open on Sundays or Holidays, so the brothers could spend time with their families. This paid off in more ways than one. Owner Ed Cantor and regular customer Rod Maca Joe Cantor passed on last year and his brother Oscar is no longer capable of working. But their strong beo. “I like shopping here. The meat is always fresh work ethics, dedication, continue to linger throughout the wall and hallways of Cantors Grocery Ltd. The legacy and right for filipino dishes.” of the Cantor brothers has continued on thru Joe’s son Edward, who has the same passion and caring heart for their customers. Today, Cantors Grocery is more than just a grocery store. It has powered the movement for a more culturally diverse staff within the Weston area. Cantors has a strong belief in hiring employees from all walks of life, especially in helping new immigrants, looking for a better life for themselves. Ed Cantor and his management team, continue to hire workers who are born or have moved into the Weston area and help them find a better future. Of Cantors over 50 staff, they employ a diverse group of people, true to Canadian form, they are the idealistic Canadian Mosaic staffing, a multitude of different nationalities, cultures and ethnicity. For the information of our Filipino readers, Cantors employs over 20 Filipino employees, some of whom are pictured in Cantors full page ad on the next page. Due to the diverse customer and employee base, Cantors now sell an even larger variety of Pork, Chicken and Beef cuts, as well as an expansive choice of Fish, to accommodate their growing clientele. How Charlene Gonzales is coping with injury
N
What’s the real score between Maegan Young and Michael Daez
N

Dingdong also received a special citation for being their batch’s Ambassador of Goodwill. Despite his busy schedule in showbiz, Dingdong still managed to give priority to his studies. The momentous event of his life was witnessed by his parents Sixto Z. Dantes and Ma. Angelita G. Dantes, his uncles Col. Edgar Dantes and Commodore Herby Escutin, his best friend Harvey Camposano, and his girlfriend and Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera. “Alam mo, you really need to manage your time well. When you’re given assignments, kailangan matuto ka ring mag-sacrifice at mag-balanse kung alin ang dapat i-prioritize. Education is the solution. It is not enough to know what your

goal is, you must know how to chase it – and chase it real damn well,” said Dingdong. After his graduation, Dingdong plans to pursue the “One Chair, One Child” project of his Yes Pinoy Foundation and Lifeline Foundation Support Team, Inc. This aims to provide chairs to all students of a school in Iloilo City that was greatly affected by Typhoon Yolanda last year. Aside from his Yes Pinoy project, the Kapuso Primetime King also gears up for his return on Primetime TV via Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real with Diamond Star Maricel Soriano and Kapuso Premier Drama Actress Lovi Poe soon. Ang Dalawang Ms. Real can be seen worldwide on GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV. “It is a dream come true for me to finally work with the Diamond Star and the opportunity to work with an award-winning actress like Lovi Poe on television. The combination of these two women makes my job more engaging as an actor,” he noted.

hey are a family of celebrities…actors, singers, models, dancers, etc. The entire family is full of talent. From Eddie Gutierrez to Annabelle Rama, to Ruffa, to Richard, to Raymond, etc. With siblings Richard and Raymond, Ruffa closed a realityshow deal with One Mega Group’s TV 100 and E! Channel Asia. Entitled “It Takes Gutz To Be A Gutierrez”, cameras followed the family’s every move. Some episodes were shot during the family’s Asian holiday on board Star Cruises. As usual, the matriarch,
side of Annabelle will be in the reality-show. Ruffa is full of confidence that the show would present a candid portrait of her family. She even consented to go on-cam without makeup, too. During the shoot, Ruffa was even sick and her voice was hoarse. She suggested to cancel the shoot, but the show’s director, Mike Carandang (of America’s Next Top Model) thought that it was perfect that she was sick. During the shoot of the first episode, the E! executives were so impressed that they requested that instead of shooting the two-hour special, they asked for the entire season (six episodes). There will be lots of revelations in the reality-show. Sarah Lahbati, Richard’s girlfriend is the new addition to the family. This reality-show sounds really entertaining and a novelty. This will be a good treat to the fans to see the glamorous family, as it’s been a lull in their TV appearances.
Annabelle Rama, is always the doting mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. But, part of the provisions in the contract stipulated that Annabelle was not allowed to quarrel with anyone on Twiter or in real life. Annabelle had better behave. In fact, the seldom-seen vulnerable

ARTISTA WINNIPEG APRIL ISSUE

Pokwang mum on Kris and Ai Ai’s feud

“THE LEGAL WIFE” STIRS UP STRONG REACTIONS CELEBRITY LOYAL VIEWERS
W
ith its top caliber cast, realistic plot, beautifully written script, and fiercely passionate scenes, ABS-CBN’s most followed ‘TV affair’ “The Legal Wife,” topbilled by Angel Locsin, Maja Salvador, JC De Vera and Jericho Rosales, continues to stir up strong reactions of support from primetime TV viewers, including some celebrities who follow the show since day one. “People love to watch something which they think can resolve their questions about life. That’s what ‘The Legal Wife’ offers! It has a simple story but we’re sure that it’s really happening and anyone can easily identify with the characters of Angel, Maja or Echo,” shared actress-TV host Janice de Belen.
Like Janice, actress Dimples Romana admires the honesty of primetime series that has turned into a nightly affair that viewers look forward to. She said, “When I’m watching ‘The Legal Wife,’ I’m seeing reality. The audience, particularly couples, can really learn a lot from the show, especially when it comes to protecting the marriage.” For Senator Sonny Angara and wife Tootsie, married couples can pick up lessons from the challenges faced now by Monica (Angel) and Adrian (Jericho). They also believe that the show can serve as an eye-opener not only to husbands and wives but also to people caught in an illicit affair. “For those women involved with married men, they should realize that they are not only causing pain to the wives but also to the whole family of the couple,” said Tootsie. Will Adrian and Nicole (Maja) completely fall into the trap of infidelity? How will Monica fight for her marriage and protect their family? Don’t miss the nation’s most followed ‘TV affair,’ “The Legal Wife” after “Ikaw Lamang” on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.
