Marlon Stockinger and Pia Wurtzbach are the best workout buddies

C

elebrity couple Pia Wurtzbach and Marlon Stockinger always look picture perfect together, most likely due to the fact they take their fitness routines seriously in order to keep in shape and stay healthy. Last February 5, Mar-

lon shared a short clip of himself and his beauty queen girlfriend doing some serious reps with the caption, “Worked out with my favorite gym buddy. Shared some pain and now some epic food next!” The couple first started dating in late 2016.

okwang is always first a mother before she is anything. The 48-year-old comedienne and actress on Wednesday made this clear when she took to social media to speak of her outpouring love for her life’s most prized possessions – her daughters Ria Mae and Malia Francine. Though the ‘Oda Sa Wala’ star refused to elucidate, one thing stood out:

“After this movie, a couple of weeks or two, we’re going to Georgia, Russia.

It’s under the direction of Direk Sig (Sigrid Andrea Bernardo) from Kita Kita so this one is definitely a different kind of love story,” pahayag pa ng aktor. Meanwhile, Following the launch of his romantic drama film, Hanggang Kailan, opposite fellow Viva artist Louise delos Reyes, Xian recently met with Alex and director RC delos Reyes for the story conference of their upcoming flick titled Love The Way You Lie. RC is the same filmmaker behind the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival official entry Mary, Marry Me, top billed by Alex herself together with her sister Toni Gonzaga. Talking to PEP.ph, Alex said that her friendship with the actor’s girlfriend, fellow Pinoy Big Brother host Kim Chiu, definitely helped in setting the mood between her and Xian as a love team. “Friend ko si Kim. Lagi kong nakakasama,” she said. “Ang maganda sa personality ni Alex, the way she is, parang basag na kasi agad yung wall,” Xian followed. “Kung meron man wall, binabasag niya agad. Kapag may nararamdaman siya, binabasag niya agad.” Love The Way You Lie, according to RC, is an adult movie with a touch of comedy. “Noong nag-uusap kami kung sino ang leading man, naisip talaga namin si Xian,” he said.

N

BY LEO BUKAS

Narito ang kabuuan ng kanyang post sa kanyang Facebook account: “The state of our film industry, the business of it, is in a dire situation. Someone should do something about it.

Government should intervene. This is not a slow death anymore. “We are on life support and we need resuscitation. No more pointing fingers. I think we’re beyond that at this point. This is a plea for help. “The film industry is at its busiest the past three years but no one gets to see the movies we make except for the sporadic mega hits. Hundreds of movies are being made now but no one is really doing good business including the big studios. What happened to our local audience? “The past three weeks several local movies were screened, including one of ours, and it didn’t make good business despite all the marketing fanfare. This week Regal and Viva premiered films and again it wasn’t received well at the box office despite all the marketing and promising stories. “Even MMFF no matter how much they claim with pride that it was hit, it wasn’t. It didn’t make as much money as the previous years. And instead of looking at the problem head on of the dwindling audience they just chose to deny it.

“Is it the online platforms killing us? Is it support of cinemas? Is it Hollywood? Is it bad marketing? Is it esoteric, irrelevant, tired or uninteresting stories? Is it traffic? Is it downloads? Is it poverty? Has our audience outgrown our films? I really don’t know at this point. “All I know is, we cannot go on making movies where no one sees them. We cannot blindly just trudge along busily working on our films without thinking about whether all this passion is really worth it. “We cannot keep on spending millions for movies that no one gets to see. This is alarming. SOMEONE SOMEWHERE SOMEHOW SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. “This industry nurtures its artists with our local filmfests. we look after our filmworkers with so many films being produced. We strengthen ties on our international filmfest connections. We revel on the little things we accomplish and splash it on big bold letters in the headlines. “But are we really doing something for the film industry where it matters most? Are we really getting our films to the audience it was actually made for? Or are we just bringing them to the small audience we embarrassingly deserve?”

REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer

S

THE TRIAD OF MARITAL HAPPINESS

omeone said that America is at the verge of a post marriage culture. Marriage as an institution is under attack by easy divorces, increasing cohabitations, and rising unwed mothers. People are marrying less. Even those who hope to marry are faced with a debilitating fear that marriage no longer works. Our disposable culture offers free love which is just another way of saying free sex, a promiscuity without commitment or responsibility. Marriage is viewed as a private affair between consenting male and female without regards for children or society. God’s gift of sexuality is made subservient to human choice and gratification. Free love, however, is a contradiction in terms because when

P 24

lovers are in love, they don’t want to be free. They want to be bound for a lifetime. No marriage is perfect. In fact, even if marriage is made up in heaven, so are thunders and lightnings. Marriage is made up of two imperfect and self-willed people, whose DNAs are uniquely different from each other. Factor into the marriage equation the fact that both man and woman are sinners (Rom. 3:23) and generally selfish (Ps. 14:3). It is a foregone conclusion that conflicts are inevitable. Yet marriage is the hope of our completion. Someone called marriage a noble daring. It involves risks. Rosemary Haughton wrote, “marriage is handing over your whole self – your body, your

ARTISTA WINNIPE FEBRUARY 2019 ISSUE

soul, your happiness, your future – in the keeping of one whom you love, but who is, and remains, greatly a stranger…. The greatest of human gifts are set to work only when people are prepared to risk everything.” Notwithstanding their trials and tears , a husband said of a sickly wife, “I would rather carry her on my back the rest of my life than to live one day without her.” For marriage and love to thrive, not just survive, three things are needed. Firstly, SELF-CHANGE. It is futile to change your spouse on your own. You have no control of your spouse. But you have control of yourself to become a better husband or wife. The Biblical model is that we love God because He first loved us (1 Jn. 4:19). Initiate self-change to inspire change in your spouse. To love is to will to love. Secondly, DUTIES FIRST. Spouses make their happiness depend on conditional clauses. The husband will say, “I will love you if you submit to me.” The wife in return says, “I will submit if you love me.” So we insist on our

rights before we perform our duties. Turn the table around and follow Jesus who did not come to be served but to serve (Mk. 10:45.) A wife once told her husband, “By God’s grace, no one will come before you my husband, not even me.” And thirdly, TRUST GOD. Marriage requires faith in God who is the Author-Witness of love and marriage. Only God in Christ can make a husband and wife new beings to love and to serve even though each may feel unloved and neglected. Then the God of newness will bring a miracle of grace to transform and bless you marriage. Amen.

I think it really help na mayroon kamin age difference. Mas matanda siya sa akin, so marunong talaga siyang magalaga,” sabi ni Mariel na may 15 years na agwat sa edad ni Robin. “He’s the one who’s keeping the fire sa aming marriage. life. “My best friend, kaka-graduate lang and I have one who is still in college. So ‘yung mga best friends ko kapag nagkukuwentuhan kami, sila lang ‘yung nakaka-relate sa isa’t isa because I didn’t get to experience the normal. When I think about it, nanghihinayang ako,” she said in an interview with ABS-CBN News. The actress said that she has her share of “what ifs” when it comes to her education. “Pero at the same time, I am lucky na I get to work. Pero parang iniisip ko din na what if nakapag-college ako and I got to experience all the hardships that they go through in college and the satisfaction of actually graduating,” she stated. Though she didn’t experience college like her peers experienced it, Liza still chose to enroll in college through a special program that would fit her busy schedule as an actress. She decided to pursue higher education because it was

her grandfather’s wish for her to graduate. “I remember also, I was doing ‘She’s the One’ when I was taking my entrance exams. It was our last day and I wasn’t able to take one of my entrance exams. I remember I was crying because I really wanted to go to college. Until now, it’s still a dream of mine. Well, I’m in college right now but it was also a dream of mine to graduate. Because my lolo, he always made me promise na kahit na artista ako, dapat makagraduate ako kasi I think that’s the best gift you can give to your parents,” she stated.

The update came a mere few weeks after Arjo confirmed to the press that he and Maine are “exclusively dating,” following months-long speculation from fans. It’s no secret that the two have been receiving criticism and even serious threats from hardcore fans during the height of rumors romantically linking them together. This prompted even Arjo’s mother, seasoned actress Sylvia Sanchez, to appeal for critics to take it easy with the online bashing.

Arjo, meanwhile, said that his concern is with Maine and his family despite having received many death threats from bashers himself. “Naapektuhan sila [my family] somehow (bashing) kasi they’ve never been bashed eh. Wala lang but they’re just a little bit irritated, and what triggers me is the fact that people around me are kind of affected,” he said during the press conference for his latest film ‘TOL. “Kasi some comments went too much, actually most of comments, but I really don’t care I’m much more concerned with people around me.”
