REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer
Reflections on Psalm 72
A VISION OF HOPE
I
was reading D.A. Carson’s devotional thought on Psalm 72 and was engrossed with the truths that leap from the pages of his book. I started reading Psalm 72 a few times, each time, making observations on its relevance today. It may have been the lavish words of a toast in a coronation of a Davidic King but I can’t help looking for contemporary applications after 26 or more centuries. Scholars would debate whether it is Messiahnic in nature. John Calvin and some others say it is not. The Book of Common Prayers and some other theologians say it is. The application of Psalm 72 in the epiphany passage Matthew 2:11suggests it is. Carson is linking 72:17 with the Abrahamic covenant in Genesis 12:2-3. But the text itself points to a king beyond the Davidic kings to the One that is coming (cf. Matthew 12:42). Moreover, the vision is future. “He will endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations” (72:5). It suggests an eternal King who will administer enduring global peace (72:9-11). In the language of Isaiah, the Prince of Peace whose kingdom will know no end (9:7). Focusing attention on the qualities of the ruler in Psalm 72. The Psalm speaks of many themes: justice especially for the poor, righteousness for all, peace that is global, prosperity for the people and prayer for the king and people. In essence, it responds to the question: How should a ruler rule? Psalm 72 addresses the ordering of a society that will bring divine blessings to the nation and people. Edwin McNeill Poteat speaks of four such areas of order. He insists that indifference or abandonment or compromise with these ideals will be a prelude to chaos. History is on the side of his analysis. The moral order is generally influenced by the ruler as symbol and vehicle of moral stability. He imbibes a godly spirituality and so ensures that the laws reflects the laws and righteousness of God. The social order is the undertaking of social programs that carries his solicitude for the well-being of his people. There is social opportunity and mobility for the people. The political order shows the ruler’s just and merciful administration. He models justice and influence others to act justly by the power of his example in his nation. The economic order indicates an equitable distribution of wealth and the nation enjoys material prosperity.

Push.com. ph lists down the babies who totally won our hearts and our social media feeds this year:
Maria Letizia
There is a strong basis for viewing the Psalm as messianic. It speaks of the values of a ruler that are the same as that expounded in Isaiah 9:1-7 from where I grounded the DNa Vision (Discipling a Nation). Stated simply, the ideal ruler will rule so that there is righteousness, justice, peace and prosperity for all the people. The Psalm in this vision of hope is also based on covenant theology, that God is creator, governor, and provider of people and nation. Moroever, the poetry also recognize the power of prayer by the people for their rulers and the benediction of ruler for his people. Psalm 72 goes beyond the nation Israel, to encompass the whole earth in the scope of its vision and in the compass of its blessings. The completeness of its coverage of the desiderata of social order everywhere that gives this political poetry its contemporary relevance. Fit for a Queen: Five eligible bachelors that could be Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s ‘IDEAL GUY’ by: Maureen
It came as a total shocker when Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach revealed in a TV Patrolinterview that she was actually single. However, she did list down the “traits” of a guy that she hopes to be with. According to her, the guy has to be smart, humorous, and a gentleman. Here are five guys whom we think could make the cut.
Atom Araullo
Although he’s not directly connected with showbiz, Atom has been the epitome of “eligible bachelor” ever since he called it with quits with his former
Marie Belmonte
girlfriend Patty Laurel. The 33-year-old anchor, who graduated with a degree in Applied Physics from the University of the Philippines, has been part of the ABSCBN News and Current Affairs for a while now. The Josh Hartnett look-a-like has been making women swoon even during his younge r years
when he was part of the youth-oriented show 5 and Up and all the more when he reported live, in the middle of Yolandastricken Tacloban in 2013.
Benjamin Alves If Pia was to find the local counterpart of her Hollywood crush James Franco, it would probably be the 26-year-old ac-
tor. Benjamin graduated summa cum laude from the University of Guam for English literature. Although he originally wanted to pursue a master’s degree, his joined showbiz instead. To date, Piolo Pascual’s nephew has been part of number of highlyacclaimed films both in the indie and mainstream scene including Heneral Luna. Reports have it, though, that he’s currently dating singeractress Glaiza de Castro. However, two have yet to confirm anything about the real status of their relationship. Pls. turn to page 6.

Coco Martin The Prince of Philippine Independent Films may not boast of a educational background like Atom and Benjamin, but he could more than compensate it with years and years of experience and hard work. From being a budding actor, Coco left show business to become an OFW doing menial jobs. Years later, he returned to business with much depth and passion and started dominating the local independent scene before getting big in international film festivals through his daring films with Brillante Mendoza
R a y v e r Cruz Perhaps one of the most underrated stars in the business, Rayver is best known
for busting his moves on the dance floor more often than not with his good friend Dance Princess Maja Salvador. But Rayver has more to offer than just his sleek dance moves especially in the aspect of acting as shown on his exceptional performance on the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Buy Now, Die Later and the highlyacclaimed film On The Job.
Mikael Daez He was first known as a model, then an actor and now Mikael is getting his hands on fitness, blogging, and business. This is unsurprising since Mikael finished a business management degree from the Ateneo de Manila University. A good measurement of his eloquence can be seen on the way he writes and presents his blog which contains his own musings and photos from his everyday life may it be on cam or off cam. Rumors are though that he and Megan Young have been a couple for some years now.

Bianca Gonzales, Mariel Rodriguez and Toni Gonzaga candidly talk about their sex lives by: Cristina Malonzo
O
n Tonight with Boy Abunda, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla and Toni Gonzaga-Soriano talked about their life as married women. Admittedly, of the three, Mariel is the one who’s the most malambing and selosa. “Nag-aalsabalutan ako, Tito Boy. Tapos umuuwi din naman ako.” When asked if her husband, Robin Padilla, calls her, “Tinawagan ba ako? Siyempre kailangan magpasuyo ka naman! Parang nakareceive naman yata ako ng call.” Toni said she is not the jealous type. “Hindi, tsaka hindi naman niya ako binibigyan ng rason para magselos.” Bianca shared that she used to be somewhat of a jealous girlfriend. “Hindi ako umiimik. Neutral face but deep inside. Matagal na, I think nung kinasal kami parang naturally nawala yung selos ko. Because siyempre feel na feel mong secure ka na.” Mariel shared that a lot has changed since she got married. “Marami na, Tito Boy. Feeling ko, I’m still the same, but better.” With Toni having just gotten married in 2015, she said, “Six months na kaming married. So nandoon pa ako sa process ng transitioning. Mahirap actually yung stage ng transitioning, ng separation from the family, from Alex, from everything, and being called yung may dash na Soriano. So pang naroon pa ako sa stage na yun, but it’s a good stage, which I know I’ll be able to overcome. That’s why I’d say that this year, this is my plan, to be the best wife.” Bianca, on the other hand, acknowledged that with her marriage life, came the realization that life need not be always fast paced. “Siguro ang pinakanagbago is natutunan kong mag slow down,” she said. “Kasi dati nung single, parang go go go, work, walang pahinga. Pero nung kinasal, okay lang palang mas magpahinga ng kaunti. Priority yung family.” The best friends also shared tips for a better marriage life. With Bianca, “Siguro ngayon, bilang bagong ina, ang pinaka best tip ko, kahit may anak kayo, priority niyo pa rin yung asawa niyo. So for example, kami ni JC, pag kunwari uuwi siya, ikikiss niya muna ako tapos saka si Lu-

ganoon, it works for us. Robin is a good leader, he’s the man of the house, ako, I’m a follower. So kung ano sinabi niya, yun ang masusunod. Kung ano yung gusto niya, I will make it happen. Yun na rin yung gusto ko, yung gusto niya.” While with Toni, “Ako siguro, yung pride. Be the first one to say sorry, just to patch
things up. Kasi wala talagang mangyayari kung pataasan kayo ng pride.” The three were very candid on matters of sex. When asked to choose between lights on or lights off, Toni readily said, “Off.” Mariel on the other hand said, “Ako on. Mas maganda. Kasi ako pinakamatagal nang may asawa sa kanila. Ako nga, gusto ko pa nga, nakikita ko talaga eh.” Bianca injected, “Ako with. Yung medyo shadowy.” Toni was then asked to choose between sex or chocolates. “Before chocolate but now both.” While both Bianca and Mariel prefer sex, with Bianca explaining, “Kaya ako yung nauna sa inyo [magkaanak].” Best time for sex? “Pag hindi mo ineexpect,” Bianca shared. “Ako sinabi ko morning, at sasabihin ko why,” said Mariel. “Ang dami pang energy.” While Toni shared, “Naku, papanoorin ni mommy Pinty ‘to. Alam niyo ba, tumawag siya sa akin noon, ‘Bakit naman sinagot pa ni Paul yung ganoon. Bakit sinabing ikaw pa yung nag-aano? Hindi maganda yung mga bagay na yun.’ Akala niyo, may MTRCB ako. So pagsinagot ko to, ‘Bakit mo naman sinagot pa yun?’” But when asked again what’s the best time for sex, Toni answered, “anytime.”

and for loving the show ‘Got To Believe.’ We love you!” said Kathryn. “I’d like to thank Today TV. We just feel very humbled, very blessed, and we are very thankful. Maraming salamat,” said Daniel. Prior to the gala night, Kathryn and Daniel already felt the love from Vietnamnese Kathniel fans when they arrived at the Saigon Airport Friday afternoon. Armed with banners, shirts, posters, and caps, Vietnamese fans chanted “Kathniel,” and some even sang the “Got to Believe” theme song. Fans also flocked to a local mall in Ho Chi Minh last Saturday for Kathryn

In 2014, “Be Careful with My Heart” was also a phenomenal hit that earned lead stars Richard Yap and Jodi Sta. Maria the same Face of the Year Awards. “Got to Believe” and “Be Careful With My Heart” are only among the many ABSCBN dramas that aired in different countries through the efforts of ABS-CBN International Distribution. ABS-CBN International Distribution has been recognized in the global arena as a reliable foreign content provider. It has been a premier source of high quality Filipino programming in over 50 territories all over the world and has sold over 30,000 hours of content worldwide.

dro of Lamoiyan Corporation. Though in deep sadness, Kuya Germs’ family led by his son Federico, grandchildren Jorell, Francheska, Raffy and Gabby, niece and family matriarch Dr. Vivian Nite dela Cruz, and nephew John Nite also expressed their gratitude to the people who paid tribute to Kuya Germs and shared their fondest memories of their ‘Papa.’ “I think everybody knows that he is a hardworking person. Monday to Sunday he works and that’s how dedicated my father was, and that’s how he loved his professions because he prayed for it, he asked for it. Every single opportunity that he got, he took care of it, he loved it, he gave his all. He is a generous man. Wala na siyang ibang inisip kung hindi kami: pamilya, kaibigan, and his contemporaries. My father is known as a star-builder and I can probably say that most of the stars in the industry came or started from him. But now I will share to you why he is successful in do-
ing that because every child has a dream. My father would be the one to spark that light. He believes that for every child that dreams, they deserve to be given that opportunity to achieve their dreams. That is the secret of my father,” said Federico. For his valuable contributions and loyalty to the network, GMA management presented a posthumous plaque of appreciation and recognition to Kuya Germs.

For Barbie, who plays the role of Diana, she said she had a lot of unforgettable scenes but she will definitely treasure her trip to Japan with her co-stars since it was her first out-of-the-country experience For Thea, who portrays Ashley, her most memorable moment was when Jean Garcia slapped her many times for a crucial scene. “Siyempre yung sampal pa rin ni Ms. Jean Garcia. Yung apat na sunodsunod. ‘Yun talaga ang hindi ko makakalimutan dahil uminit ang pisngi ko noon siguro ng more than 1 hour [Of course, it’s still the slap from Ms. Jean Garcia. I received four in succession. That’s what I will never forget because my cheeks were hot for more than an hour afterwards],” she said. For Andre, he will definitely miss all his co-stars because they really got close with each other, “The most memorable scenes are the ones behind the camera because we get to bond with each other.” He
