REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer
LIFE IN A BOX: ANSWERING THE INESCAPABLE QUESTION
J
erry Seinfield spoke of life as a movement. As one moves from one place to another, he is looking for storage boxes. They have labels – Husband, Wife, Children, clothings, utensils, books, etc. Then ultimately, inevitably, each will need a final box – the coffin. Lewis Smedes once spoke of life as moving through the boxes of a calendar. The boxes represent the days of the calendar. Each day we live is filling up a box with our activities –working, meetings, eating, driving, playing, romancing, studying, sleeping etc. Each day, we pass through an invisible door to the next box. The walls of the box restrain and limit us. We repeat the same process and routine until we enter that one final box. Everyone has a terminal box called coffin. We all die inevitably. What will be in that final box? The lifeless body will be in it and will eventually decompose into ashes. But is that all to life? The Bible says that God created us all with eternity in our hearts. Somehow, except for some hard-boiled atheists, we believe that there is life beyond the grave. Notice how we change terminologies from graveyard to cemetery to memorial parks. We hope for something better, for more. We want a place where wrong is made right, where there is no more suffering, where the internet connections are excellent, where beauty never fades, where there is no more loneliness and conflicts. As John Ortberg puts it, “We want the whole enchilada. We want heaven.” There is the rub. If we believe that there is heaven, then there is also hell. This being the case, it would matter then where the “dead” will spend eternity. Death is but a change of address – from earth to heaven or hell. The thing is that once a person enters the final box, the address is already determined by the person

ho would ever forget Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach’s Instagram fan girl moment last January after Hollywood star James Franco replied to her admiration? It may be recalled that it all happened after Pia revealed on Entertainment Tonight that James was among her celebrity crushes along with Channing Tatum and Seth Rogen. an interview on Ruben Nepales’ Inquirer column, the Spiderman star shared the reason why he replied. “People told me she had a crush on me, so I was giving some love back,”

replied James. When reminded about Pia’s three-heart response with matching “I love you more” to his post, James exclaimed, “Whoa! Somebody is playing matchmaker here!” The 127 Hours star however clarified that he has yet to visit the Philippines. “I did a movie called The Great Raid that was supposed to take place in the Philippines, but we actually shot in Australia. There were a lot of great Filipino actors in that film. I loved working with them,” he shared. James was pertaining to stars Bembol Roco, Rez Cortez, Cesar Montano,

himself. Unless a person believes and receives Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, hell is the final destination. But if a person believes and receives Jesus as Savior and Lord, then heaven is his eternal destiny. The Bible says, “absence from the body is present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). The inescapable question of life is: Who do you say Jesus Christ is … to you? Jesus assures each of us: “Because I live, you will live also” (John 14:19). Talagang doon very well celebrated.” Moreover, the Home Sweetie Home star told members of the press, “Ilang taon na ginagawa niLav Diaz ‘yun and I’m really happy na finally, naabot niya and naging part siya ng main competition ng Berlinale and he actually won a Silver Bear.” Likewise, John Lloyd talked about meeting Academy Award winner
Meryl Streep who was the head of the jury at the Berlinale Festival. A photo of the two talking surfaced on the internet recently. According to the actor, the picture helped the movie to gain more popular locally. “Napakalaki ng nagawa nung picture na ‘yun, ‘yung pagpayag niya na magpapicture sa amin para sa pelikula namin kasi to be honest, nagkaroon talaga ng extra popularity kung hindi man ‘yung ganong klaseng naabot na popularity no’n, dahil lang sa picture. Pero sabi ko nga, let’s not forget ‘yung totoong reason why kami nandoon.”

It’s been such an amazing experience for me and nakakatuwa siyang katrabaho, grabe ‘yung work ethic niya,” she said. Besides being busy working on the primetime series, she is also gearing up for her new album which will be released soon. “May bago akong album. I guess kasi tino-tour ko pa si Forbidden (her second album).
Until now nabebenta pa rin so maraming salamat dahil saan-saan ako nakakarating.” Now that some of her friends are engaged and are about to settle down, Anne was asked by the press if whether or not she is also ready to get married any time soon. She replied, “I think it comes in our own right time and ako kasi napakacareer driven ko and once you decide kasi na handa ka na magpakasal dapat handa ka na rin i-give up kung anong meron ka sa career mo kasi mag-iiba yan.” She added that she and her boyfriend Erwan Heussaff are presently focused on their respective careers. “Sa ngayon kasi Erwan and I are very much

Implying that he considers every movie he does as a new chapter, John Lloyd said, “It’s another chapter in my life and at least ngayon, I have the privilege of including Jen in this chapter. Uno. ‘Yun talaga ‘yung pangalan niya, Uno Abusado… It’s another complex character. It comes from a very sad past kasi medyo abandoned ‘yung tao. Never niyang nakilala ‘yung kanyang mga magulang and he never really experienced unconditional love which is the total opposite of Jen’s character,” he narrated. Jennylyn, on the other hand, will play the role of CJ Manalo, an airport staff who dreams of becoming a flight attendant. “Mahal na mahal niya ‘yung pamilya niya so galing siya sa isang magandang pamilya, puno ng pagmamahal so pangarap niyang mailipad ‘yung buong pamilya niya sa ibang bansa, ganyan. So selflesh siya, gusto niya masaya ‘yung pamilya niya,” she said. When asked if there will be kissing scenes and love scenes, Direk Cathy answered, “Hindi lang isa… Meron, marami.”
