welcome Your guide to Park Radio….the Waveney Valley’s 1st choice. Welcome to the sixth edition of “On the Air” and my first time writing in it, as a lot of new and exciting things have changed since the last edition. We are all settled back into our studios and we’re really pleased to have welcomed so many of you through our doors once again. Since our last edition we have had a change of management structure with Chris, the face of Park Radio for the last 5 years, a great inspiration to the whole team, moving to sunnier climbs, literally, and the appointment of a new board and team to take Park to new dizzier heights than ever before… The new board has hit the ground running, with a new station manager at the helm - Jono Woodward who leads the board of directors; they are - Katie Brame, Linda Bryant, Paul Shaw and me James Grint. This is an exciting time for us with new and fresh ideas and plans for the future of Park Radio being pursued. Read more about the Board inside. As always we are looking for more volunteers to help deliver our specialist music programmes, so if you have a few spare hours in a week/month and have a penchant for a particular music genre, take a look to see how you can become involved. We are now able to extend our outside broadcasts and engage with our community. Over the coming months we are looking to visit villages, community projects/groups and businesses. Dive inside for more details. Our updated schedule on the centre pages gives you the opportunity to plan your listening time and to hear some of your favourite music. There are also daily/weekly competitions for you to get involved in, including our new Free Food Friday!! Find out who our winners are and what they won. Why not have a go? You could be a winner too. Each year the Park Radio team have chosen charities to support, in this edition you will see there are four charities and we will be holding events to raise money for these. I truly do hope to catch up with you in person soon at one of our forthcoming events. Best Regards James Grint, Director

Paul Shaw - Director and member of the Operations Team Park Radio has been part of my life for almost 12 years. In those early days we worked hard as a small team to obtain a full-time broadcasting licence and we haven’t looked back. Now, it feels as if Park Radio has always been there. The role I have in the organisation is as a presenter, however, when the new Board was being formed I was offered a Director role which I am pleased to say I accepted. My main work outside of Park Radio is in construction.
James Grint - Programme Director and Presenter I became involved with radio when I was 14 when I joined Hospital Radio Norwich. At 17 I started working with Radio Broadland in various roles and eventually took up work on the 7-Up Roadshow carrying out events all over the country with the highlight of our year being the Royal Norfolk Show. At 20 I realised this wasn’t a proper income and gave up the fun for a proper career. At 25 I started a small business in Thetford which grew over the next 20 years to a multi-million pound turnover company employing over 50 members of staff. In early 2014 I took a year off after selling my business. During this time I assisted several struggling businesses with the wealth of knowledge I had developed from running my own business and turned them round, all of which are still going today. I started my current business in late 2014, it was during this time I was invited to an open evening at Park Radio just before they went full time live on air. After some discussion with Chris Moyse, I started my own show on a Saturday night - The '80s Obsession' - it is now the most listened to show on Park Radio. With my years of business acumen and my passion for radio I can’t wait to help drive Park Radio forward for the next 5 years of our license and beyond.

Station Supporting Station Since 2008 Park Radio volunteers have been maintaining the planters and the garden at Diss Railway station. Currently there are three people who are weeding, planting and watering the planters and garden. During the time that Park radio adopted Diss Railway station garden we have been winners of the Greater Anglia Diss Station Adopter Award in 2018 and won the Greater Anglia Highly-Commended Award in 2021. The team are Heather Babb, Peter Harrison and Trevor Lond. They would be really pleased if you would like to join them in this worthwhile work to maintain a welcoming place for visitors to our lovely town. Once the plants are in place, usually early spring and late autumn, there is just weeding in the garden and watering of the planters, which we try to do every week. If you are interested in joining this team of volunteers please contact Heather Babb on 01379 650302 and leave a message.

Harleston - Outside Broadcast
On a very chilly morning on 25th March, Chris and Matt moved out of their nice warm studio and set up the equipment in Harleston to perform Park Radio’s first outside broadcast in the town. Joe Hadden from the Diss Express was there drinking coffee with Chris. Joe also did part of the review with Robin Twigge, owner of the Swan Hotel in the centre of town. A few of the Park Radio team slowly appeared, including Katie, James and Heather. This was a most enjoyable morning with members of the public coming along with requests for their favourite piece of music. It was great to see them interacting with the team. A plentiful supply of coffee was made available from the Swan hotel. Thank you Robin Twigge.
