In the past 3 months, we have been focusing on getting our name out to the community,
distributing in schools, events, and every corner of the city. Since our last issue, we hosted a
memorable launch party (see page 20-21), welcomed new members to our staff, and went on
various outings (see page 30). We strive to make this magazine a proud piece of work that you
can use as a resource to find out about events, find help, practice your English or Spanish, and
read about issues that affect us.
You’ll notice that in this issue we focused on a theme: messages in the media and the effects of
mass communication. The way we see things, interact with one another, and how we interpret
anything from culture to body image is greatly influenced by what we see on television, the
Internet, ads, and magazines. So it is our duty, as creators of a magazine, to commit to a socially
responsible message, and encourage you to be critical of the media we consume.
