You really need to respect and highly consider the work of a man who has spent more than 20 years in research on how wealthy men become that way. You cannot help but respect him more if this man has (in the process) interviewed and synthesized the experience and insights of more than 500 of the richest and the most successful men in his generation. It becomes more enticing if this man comes up with an intriguing book title of

don’t need to convince you anymore if you happen to know that this book has sold way over 70 million copies and that almost every successful man/woman has read it at least 3 times. This book goes up to the top of the “must-read” books to any serious student of life.

Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is among the best books of the 20th Century and it is still very practical in the 21st Century. The principles outlined in this book are endless.

I normally refer to this book’s price as “the Tsh 4,500 that changed my mind and then my life”. I bought this book in January 2007 for only Tsh 4,500. Read it 36 times within that year and got hooked in the quest for knowledge. It opened a door in my mind that I could not have managed to open any other way.

This book was like heaven sent for it came to me in the right moment in life when I had a burning question in my mind on how the rich make money. Up to that time I had bought and read books on how to be rich but nothing came any closer to the concise and definite answers that this book offers.

This book has no shadows or complications; it is philosophically clean, setting out the things ‘which work’, and leaving others, rightfully,

to the realm of mystery.

Think & Grow Rich outlines 13 concise principles for making money and it is so amazing that these 13 principles can be applied to achieve any worthwhile goal in life.

If I were to sum-up these principles into one completed thought I could say that Dr. Hill’s (and all his 500 successful associates) philosophy is about Thinking & Becoming, not just doing. It is a growth!

The majority of people make a misleading assumption that just doing what the rich and successful do will make them rich and successful. This is wrong.

The secret is in Thinking & Becoming a different person from within before you can do and achieve what the rich and successful have.

Becoming rich is a result of a mind and lifestyle transformation. It requires the change of thoughts and attitudes. It demands the change of lifestyle and I am not referring to a luxurious lifestyle in this instance but I am referring to the priorities you set in life.

RICH

In a sense, you have to see riches (the life you desire) in your mind and believe it wholeheartedly before it can be manifested, in the physical realm. It is a slow process that takes time and effort, and that is the main reason this author used the word grow in the book tittle.

Near the end of this book, Hill admits that the main reason he wrote it was ‘the fact that millions of men and women are paralyzed by the fear of poverty’. This was in the America of the 1930s, still scarred by the Depression, when most people were focused on avoiding poverty rather than getting rich.

That Hill’s book did not stop at poverty avoidance, but dared to be about becoming fabulously rich, may have forever classified it in some minds as a greed manual, but this is precisely what gave it its huge attraction.

I could go into details on the principles outlined in Think & Grow Rich in this article but space cannot really allow me to cover even a very small part of this philosophy. I will not be as effective as Dr. Hill in this endeavor.

As a result of this I can strongly assert one advice: If you want to be rich and you can only read one book (even though you can’t read just one book and get all available secrets to wealth) let it be this book. I strongly suggest you get this book and read it at least three times.

Buroo works hard at the office but spends two nights each week bowling, and plays golf every Saturday. His wife thinks he’s pushing himself too hard, so for his birthday she takes him to a local strip club. The doorman at the club greets them and says, ‘Hey, Buroo! How ya doin?’

His wife is puzzled and asks if he’s been to this club before. ‘Oh no,’ says Buroo. ‘He’s in my bowling league. When they are seated, a waitress asks Buroo if he’d like his usual and brings over a Castle.

His wife is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and says, ‘How did she know that you drink Castle?’ ‘I recognize her, she’s the waitress from the golf club. I always have a castle at the end of the 1st nine, honey.’

A stripper then comes over to their table, throws her arms around Buroo, starts to rub herself all over him and says, ‘Hi Buurooo. Want your usual table dance, big boy?’

Buroo’s wife, now furious, grabs her purse and storms out of the club. Buroo follows and spots her getting into a cab. Before she can slam the door, he jumps in beside her. Buroo tries desperately to explain how the stripper must have mistaken him for someone else, but his wife is having none of it.

She is screaming at him at the top of her lungs, calling him every 4 letter word in the book.

The cabby turns around and says, ‘Geez Buroo, huyu wa leo pasua kichwa bora wa jana.’

BUROO’s funeral will be on Friday.

Tips for the FirstTime Business Owner

n recent years we have seen large growth of entrepreneurial spirit as many people in Tanzania especially youths who are graduating from various higher learning institutions start their own businesses. But many of these businesses fail.

There are several reasons that account for the failure of these new business ventures in Tanzania started by first time business owners. For it is this insight and inside education that will provides the foundation for the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

With that, here are 10 pieces of advice that I wish everyone should read.

1. Focus. Focus. Focus.

Many first-time entrepreneurs feel the need to jump at every “opportunity” they come across.

Say it in 30 seconds or don’t say it at all.

From a chance encounter with an investor to a curious customer, always be ready to pitch your business. State your mission, service and goals in a clear and concise manner. Fit the pitch to the person. Less is always more.

4.

Know what you know, what you don’t know and who knows what you don’t.

No one knows everything, so don’t come off as a know-itall. Surround yourself with advisors and mentors who will nurture you to become a better leader and businessman.

Find successful, knowledgeable individuals with whom you / share common interests and mutual business goals that see value in working with you for the long-term.

Act like a startup, think like a big corporation.

Forget about fancy offices, fast cars and fat expense accounts.

Your wallet is your company’s life-blood. Practice and perfect the art of being frugal. Watch every shilling and triple-check every expense. Maintain a low overhead and manage your cash flow effectively.

6. Learn under fire.

No business book or business plan can predict the future or fully prepare you to become a successful entrepreneur. There is no such thing as the perfect plan. Never jump right into a new business without any thought or planning, but don’t spend months or years waiting to execute. The most important thing you can do is learn from your mistakes--and never make the same mistake twice.

No one will give you money.

There, I said it. No one will invest in you. If you need large

sums of capital to launch your venture, go back to the drawing board. Find a starting point instead of an end point. Simplify the idea until it’s manageable as an early stage venture. Find ways to prove your business model on a shoestring budget.

Demonstrate your worth before seeking investment. If your concept is successful, your chances of raising capital from investors will dramatically improve.

8. Be healthy.

No, I’m not your mother.

However, I promise that you will be much more productive when you take better care of yourself. Entrepreneurship is a lifestyle, not a 9-to-5 profession.

Working to the point of exhaustion will burn you out and make you less productive. Don’t make excuses. Eat right, exercise and find time for yourself.

Don’t fall victim to your own B.S. Don’t talk the talk unless you can walk the walk. Impress with action not conversation. Endorse your business enthusiastically, yet tastefully. Avoid exaggerating truths and touting far reaching goals as certainties. In short, put up or shut up.

10. Know when to call it quits.

Contrary to popular belief, a smart captain does not go down with the ship. Know when it’s time to walk away. If your idea doesn’t pan out, reflect on what went wrong and the mistakes that were made. Assess what you would have done differently.

Determine how you will utilize these hard-learned lessons to better yourself and your future entrepreneurial endeavors.

Failure is inevitable, but a true entrepreneur will prevail over adversity.

“The Hovertrax” one hand and food in the other and still operates the vehicle.

It works similar to a skateboard however the design is quite different. Unlike the regular boards, it begins to move forward, turning and stopping when it senses certain body movements and shifts in weight. If you stand on it and lean forward it will start moving forward giving you the feel of standing on a hover board.

But this board does not hover in the air but moves on wheels.

To move the Hovertrax, all you have to do is lean forward or backward and you’ll start moving in that direction. To slow down and stop, just stand up straight.

The Hovertrax lasts about 4 to 5 hours on a single charge, which lets you travel about 13 km.

In recent days we have seen some celebrities even our Tanzanians celebrities like Diamond Platinumz© at airports and MTV Awards as well as Vanessa Mdee in their social medias moving around without touching the ground with the so called we don’t even know its name.

So what exactly is it and how does it works?

This crazy skateboard-like is called a Hovertrax in Swahili let us nickname it via our Istagram page (@awesome_advertising_agazine).

It sounds super-simple, but we’re guessing there’s a bit of a learning curve in developing skill at balancing and maneuvering with grace. The auto-balancing characteristic of the vehicle should help the rider stay balanced, and he or she can always step off onto

stable ground if things go awry.

The Hovertrax can travel up to 8 km and/or 30 minutes on a charge, reaching speeds of up to 5 mph. It only takes about an hour to charge the lithium-ion battery from a standard wall outlet.

Where you can Use it: Hovertrax is best for riding on flat, smooth ground, such as paved trails at the park, inside house, at shopping malls like Mlimani City or Quality Center, airport, hotels, or along flat pedestrian ways like those of Morogoro road.

The device can handle an incline of about 15%, but we’re guessing that going down a steep, sustained hill wouldn’t be much fun. It’s more of a novelty than a legitimate transportation device, and it’s not really fast enough to be all that exciting.

Currently Hovertrax is not available in some stores in Tanzania, however some people have it. You can buy it online either at alibaba.com, amazon.com, ebay. com or you can ask your friend who is in South Africa, Dubai, China, UK or US to buy it for you.

ack Ma (a.k.a. Ma Yun) was born on October 15, 1964, in Hangzhou, located in the southeastern part of China.

He has an older brother and a younger sister. He and his siblings grew up at a time when communist China was increasingly isolated from the West, and his family didn’t have much money when they were young Ma was scrawny and often got into fights with classmates. “I was never afraid of opponents who were bigger than I,” he recalls in “Alibaba,” a book by Liu Shiying and Martha Avery.

After then-US president Richard Nixon visited Hangzhou in 1972, Ma’s hometown became a tourist mecca. As a teenager, Ma started waking up early to visit the city’s main hotel, offering visitors tours of the city in exchange for English lessons. The nickname “Jack” was given to him by a tourist he

befriended.

Without money or connections, the only way Ma could get ahead was through education. After high school, he applied to go to college — but failed the entrance exam twice. After a great deal of studying, he finally passed on the third try, going on to attend Hangzhou Teacher’s Institute. He graduated in 1988 and started applying to as many jobs as he could.

The site allowed exporters to post product listings that customers could buy directly over the world.

By October 1999, the company had raised $5 million from Goldman Sachs and $20 million from SoftBank, a Japanese telecom company that also invests in technology companies. The team remained close-knit and scrappy — “ ,” Ma said to a gathering of employees.

Soon, the service started to attract members from all. When the company first became profitable, Ma gave each employee a can of Silly String to go wild with.

In the early 2000s, when the company decided to start Taobao, its eBay competitor, he had the team working on it dohandstands during breaks to keep their energy levels up.

In 2005, Yahoo invested $1 billion in Alibaba in exchange for about a 40% stake in the company.

This was huge for Alibaba - at the time it was trying to beat eBay in China and it would eventually be an enormous win for Yahoo too, netting it ~$10 billion in Alibaba’s IPO alone.

Ma stepped down from his post as CEO in 2013, staying on as executive chairman. Alibaba went public on Sept.19. “Today what we got is not money. What we got is the trust from the people,” Ma told CNBC. The company’s $150-billion IPO was the largest offering for a US-listed company in the history of the New York Stock Exchange.

employee even took the party as the perfect opportunity to propose. Ma told employees at a press conference that he hopes they use their newfound wealth to become “a batch of genuinely noble people, a batch of people who are able to help others, and who are kind and happy.”

The IPO may have made Ma an extremely wealthy man, but he hasn’t made any flashy purchases (yet), and he still has some pretty modest hobbies. “I don’t think he has changed much, he is still that old style,” Xiao-PingChen, a friend of Ma, told USA Today.

He likes reading and writing kung fu fiction, playing poker, meditating, and practicing tai chi. He has even teamed up with Jet Li to spread awareness of tai chi, and he brings a trainer along with him when he travels.

Ma has largely kept his family life out of the spotlight. He married Zhang Ying, a teacher whom he met at school, after they graduated in the late ‘80s. He is not a handsome man, but I fell for him because he can do a lot of things handsome men cannot do,” Zhang

has said. They have two children — a daughter and a son who is an undergrad at UC Berkeley.

He does have a few splurges, however. In March 2013, Alibaba spent a reported $49.7 million for a Gulfstream G550, mostly for Ma’s use.
