Debilidad y vulnerabilidad Weakness and vulnerability a psique del ser humano es un tema tan apasionante como complejo. “Amarás al prójimo como a ti mismo” dice la Biblia, pero cuidado... ¡a veces no nos queremos tanto! Tenemos diferentes caras que pueden llegar a ser totalmente opuestas, ¿cómo? negando una parte de nosotros mismos y forzando el resto para dar una imagen de lo que realmente no somos. ¿Complicado? un poco, como nosotros. Simplemente, no nos aceptamos, o mejor dicho, no aceptamos aquello que consideramos nos hace vulnerables y huimos de nuestra fragilidad pensando que así evitamos los miedos y las vergüenzas. Hace tiempo leí sobre la diferencia entre la fragilidad y la debilidad, términos que se asemejan en su significado pero que tienen connnotaciones distintas: “la debilidad es no ser capaz de levantarse, esperar que sean otros los que nos salven

o, incluso, enmascarar las emociones. Mientras, la vulnerabilidad lleva consigo aceptar que las cosas pueden dolernos, que nos podemos caer, incluso romper pero que, al mismo tiempo, somos capaces de levantarnos. Con el reconocimiento de nuestra fragilidad, podremos alimentar nuestras fortalezas personales. Por el contrario, las personas que se sienten débiles tienden a ser arrogantes o autoritarias cuando tienen poder”. Esta enseñanza nos recuerda que somos personas reales con nuestros defectos y nuestras virtudes, que a veces el mundo nos puede llevar a mostrar un determinado disfraz pero que no debemos confundirlo con nuestra esencia. “Los momentos frágiles tienen la magia de hacernos recordar quénes somos realmente. Es bonito contemplarse desde ese prisma de pequeñez”. Recuerda esto cuando se crucen en tu vida personas arrogantes y autoritarias cuando ostentan el poder, son simplemente débiles.

We have many faces that can become the opposite, don’t we? But how could it be possible? Well, denying some aspects of ourselves and forcing us to give an image of who we are not. Complicated? Yes, a little, just like we are. We do not accept ourselves, I mean, we do not embrace what we believe makes us more vulnerable; we flee from our fragility thinking that we will escape from fears and shame. Some time ago, I read about the difference between fragility and weakness, terms that apparently have the same meaning but have different connotations: “Weakness is not being able to get up, to expect others to save us, or even mask our emotions. Meanwhile, vulnerability leads us to accept that some things can hurt us, that we can fall, even we can be broken, but we can get up and heal. By recognizing our fragility, we can improve our strengths, but people who don’t will feel weak, and tend to be arrogant or authoritarian when having power.” This teaching reminds us that we are real people with defects and virtues. Sometimes the world can lead us to show a particular mask, but we can’t mix it up with our essence. “Fragile moments have the magic of reminding us of what we are. It is nice to see us from the prism of smallness.” Try to remember this when arrogant and authoritarian people cross into your life; they are just weak.

Otros cuatro han asumido el poder de manera casual, como son los casos de José Rafael Molina Ureña, 30 horas, en 1965; o el vicepresidente Jacobo Majluta, que gobernó durante 43 días, después del suicidio de Antonio Guzmán. Esto implica que en el país ha habido poca alternabilidad en el poder debido a los prolongados periodos ocupados por determinados gobernantes, como fueron los 30 años del dictador Rafael Leónidas Trujillo y los 22 de Joaquín Balaguer. También ha habido situaciones insólitas como cuando el presidente Carlos Morales Languasco, acosado por su vicepresidente, Ramón Cáceres y los congresistas, el 24 de diciembre de 1905, día de Nochebuena, abandonó el cargo y se internó en la manigua de Azua, para desde allí marchar a la capital en búsqueda de sus atribuciones perdidas. Ramón Cáceres queda como presidente del pueblo, y en 1905 gana la presidencia de la República. Durante su mandato se firma el Modus Vivendi de 1905 y la Convención de 1907 dominico americana. Debido a que hubo muchos sectores que no apoyaron su gobierno, se formaron diversos complots en su contra, y el 19 de noviembre de 1911, un grupo dirigido por Luis Tejera interceptó el vehículo en el que viajaba. El presidente Cáceres recibió varios disparos que le arrebataron la vida. El general Luís Tejera fue conducido a la Fortaleza Ozama y fusilado.

But there have been unusual situations; for example, the President Carlos Morales Languasco’ abandonment of the government on December 24, 1905, on Christmas Eve, forced by his vice president, Ramón Cáceres, and the congressmen. He ran away to the Azua woods, from where he later marched back to the capital to take back his lost privileges. Ramón Cáceres remained president, but then he won the Presidency of the Republic elections in 1905. During his term, the Modus Vivendi of 1905 and the 1907 Dominican American Convention were signed. Nevertheless, many sectors didn’t support his government, and a few plots were planned against him, until a group led by Luis Tejera intercepted his car on November 19, 1911. President Cáceres was killed by several shots during the attack. Then, General Luis Tejera was shot in the Ozama Fortress. The Ramón Cáceres government was known for continuing the economic policy initiated by the dictator Ulises Heureaux. He took care of the roads and railroad extensions building, but he

El gobierno de Ramón Cáceres se caracterizó por dar continuidad a la política económica iniciada por el dictador Ulises Heureaux. Fomentó la construcción de carreteras y extensiones de ferrocarriles y se formó un ejército militar que se dedicó a perseguir a sus opositores. Con Cáceres se crearon leyes y decretos que beneficiaban a las empresas azucareras, lo que le dio a ese sector una exoneración de todos los impuestos tanto para la fabricación como para la exportación. Esto permitió que compañías estadounidenses se apropiaran de los terrenos de alta calidad agrícola. Esta situación creó descontento en el empresariado local, cuyas actividades económicas sí se veían afectadas por la aplicación de impuestos. El 3 de mayo del año de 1907, se formó la Convención DomínicoAmericana, que consistió en la firma de un tratado que ayudó al país a saldar la deuda externa e interna y superar la gran crisis económica que se vivía a principios del gobierno de Ramón Cáceres (por más de 40 millones de dólares) debido a la mala gestión del gobierno del ex presidente Ulises Heureaux (Lilis). Otras de las medidas de Cáceres fueron la eliminación de la Vicepresidencia, el aumento del período de gobierno a seis años, la reorganización del ejército, la modificación de la Constitución, así como la concesión de mayor poder al Ejecutivo que al Legislativo. Los logros de su segundo gobierno, fruto de ese cambio constitucional que desarrolló, fueron la construcción de escuelas, la ramal del ferrocarril de Moca, Santiago, Puerto Plata; nuevas carreteras y la mejora de las comunicaciones telegráfica del país. Un presidente cuya política le granjeó importantes enemigos y cuyo principal pecado fue, sin embargo, haber permanecido en el poder durante cinco años, sin caer en la tentación autoritaria y demostrando que el pragmatismo político puede ser usado en provecho de los gobernados.

XIOMARA FORTUNA Las cuatro décadas de la Reina de la Fusión

Es difícil de explicar, pero basta estar cerca de la cantante y compositora Xiomara Fortuna para sentir que su fuerte personalidad impregna el espacio. Eso fue lo que sentí por vez primera, cuando nos conocimos personalmente, en su casa colonial de Gazgue. Un halo inherente de ese carácter fuerte pero balanceado me recordó, por su forma y su fondo, a la escritora Tony Morrison, una de las voces más enérgicas a favor de los derechos civiles.

omo buena anfitriona me ofrece con hospitalidad un café y unas galletas, para desperezar el ánimo de ambas y despertar nuestros sentidos, antes de abordar las preguntas que con calma le comienzo a hacer. ¿Qué se siente cuando después de cuarenta años te llaman la reina de la fusión?, le inquiero. Una enorme satisfacción, no lo puedo negar, asegura. Defensora de la libertad, como mujer y compositora afrodominicana en un mundo segregado, sexualizado y racista, es símbolo de semilla de vida en plenitud. El germen dice ella, que lo plantó su abuela, allá por la década de los sesenta, en la ciudad de Monte Cristi, la que la vio nacer, cuando seriamente la alentaba para ser el mejor ejemplo de los niños del vecindario. Así que, aquella jovencita criada en una familia numerosa de ocho hermanos, tuvo una infancia de robustos valores, circunscritos a la abnegación y el sacrificio. “Recuerdo que incluso a la hora de vacunarse me ponía de ejemplo ante el resto, para que perdieran sus miedos”. De abuelo español y de abuela africana, Xiomara nació con lo mejor de las dos culturas, pero sobre todo, con una voz personal, potente y de gran calidad interpretativa, que la impulsó para desarrollar una trayectoria artística de cuarenta años avalados por su profesionalidad y su compromiso social. Una historia que empezó en octavo curso cuando su profesor le preguntó lo que le gustaría ser de mayor y ella afirmó con fuerte convicción que quería ser artista. El siguiente paso definitivo sería a los 18 años cuando salió de Monte Cristi, y del reloj de su parque central al que solía encaramarse, para tomar rumbo a una aventura que en aquel momento estaba tildada de factores políticos. “En pura revolución de junio de 1965, recuerdo las informaciones de unos de otros, la falta de libertad para hablar…los murmullos y el miedo”. Su primer viaje se ceñía a algunos actos de solidaridad de la canción comprometida en Cuba, pero tuvo más incidencias de lo que ella imaginaba. “Nunca había salido de mi ciudad pero este viaje me permitió montar en avión, en tren, en barco e incluso conocer Jamaica. Este corto episodio me abrió los ojos a lo que iba a ser su futuro. Entendí que el arte es arte, no importa la forma en que lo presentes”.

Defender of freedom, as an Afro-Dominican woman and composer in a segregated, sexualized and racist world, is a symbol of the seed of life in fullness he was a very kind host and offered me some coffee, and cookies before we started. According to her, she is a germ planted by her grandmother in the city where she was born, Monte Cristi, in the sixties. She says her grandmother encouraged her to be the best example of the neighborhood. So, that young girl raised in a large family of eight brothers had a childhood of strong values, self-denial, and sacrifice. “I remember that even when we had to get vaccinated, she used to set me first as an example to the rest so the rest of them would lose their fears”. Her grandfather was Spanish, and her grandmother African. Xiomara was blessed with the best of both cultures, but, especially, with a deep voice, and a powerful and exceptional interpretative quality, which prompted her to develop an artistic career of forty years, backed by her professionalism and social commitment. The story began when she was in eighth grade, and the teacher asked her what she aspired to be when she grew up, and she firmly said she wanted to be an artist. The next step would be at eighteen when she left Monte Cristi and moved away from the clock in the central park, where she used to take a trip to adventures that at that time were involved in political factors. “In the middle of the revolution of June 1965, I remember people sending secret information to each other, the lack of freedom to speak, the murmurs, and fear”. Her first trip was reduced to some solidarity acts with the Cuba songs, but it had more exciting experiences than she imagined. “I had never left my city before, but this trip allowed me to travel by plane, by train, by boat, and even to get to know Jamaica. This short episode showed me how my future was going to be. I understood that art is art, no matter how you present it”. Although she had a crush with Architecture, she decided to

Xiomara, con cien canciones y ocho discos grabados, es la única cantante dominicana que se ha dedicado completamente a la investigación del folclor dominicano Aunque su motivación inicial era la Arquitectura, en la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo estudia Artes Publicitarias pero su interés personal por la Historia del Arte, hace que tenga una aproximación autodidacta a esta rama académica. “La vida puso en mi camino a June Rosenberg, destacada antropóloga y catedrática que me llevó a conocer Los Palos y El Gagá. Esto me marcó profundamente y puso un nuevo curso a mi vida”. En la universidad empieza a cantar nueva trova y un festival de la canción le permite compartir el escenario del Teatro Nacional con los consagrados Sonia Silvestre, Jorge Taveras o Bienvenido Bustamante. El éxito rotundo de su voz fuerte que les recordaba a Rhina Ramírez, la cual ya vivía fuera del país, la pone como nueva pieza de un juego al que se incorpora con un rol principal. Al músico y cantante Roldán, le conoce mientras hacía labores de investigación. Lo mismo ocurre con el guitarrista Tony Vicioso. “Su hermana Chiqui Vicioso quien me introdujo a la música brasileña fue quien nos presentó. La conexión fue inmediata y mientras yo escribía las letras, Tony hacía la música”. Xiomara es, posiblemente, la única cantante dominicana que se ha dedicado completamente a la interpretación e investigación del folclor dominicano, desde que lo hiciera la gran Casandra Damirón. “Si escuchas Balbuceos o Kumbajei hay una atención en la instrumentación que hace que no pase de moda”. Cuando la invitan a participar en el programa de televisión el Gordo de La Semana y no tiene zapatos adecuados con los que presentarse, asume su realidad para describirse como una cantante con un cariz distinto. “Me presenté sin zapatos y con mi cabello natural. Me quería presentar como la artista real, orgánica y honesta que quería transmitir en mis letras”. Desde entonces sus pies descalzos sobre la tarima la definen, aunque dice que con cuatro décadas de trayectoria puede ahora puede que se tome una licencia. “He participado en festivales internacionales en fronteras lejanas e importantes pero mi trabajo no ha sido comercial”. En 1995, el denominado padre del Jazz francés, Maurice Cullaz, la identifica como una de las propuestas más innovadoras del Jazz en París y la incluye en la película Smoothie de Jean Henri Meunier, que relata la historia del Jazz en París, desde la llegada de Louis Armstrong.

Por eso, nadar en un cenote es hacerlo a una temperatura que no supera los 24 grados Centígrados. Su conformación se remonta a la última Era de Hielo cuando el mar descendió y dejó la barrera de coral expuesta y que, con el paso del tiempo, se convirtió en suelo fértil para que creciera vegetación. Las lluvias se mezclaron con el dióxido de carbono de la atmósfera e hicieron erosionar la roca caliza. Así se

Los taínos los elegían como escenario para alguna de sus ceremonias y rituales. a través de las hendiduras en el techo de su bóveda. Este tipo de cenotes son ideales para las actividades de aventura, ya que algunos se ubican a varios kilómetros bajo la tierra. Luego están los cenotes semi-abiertos, dicen los geólogos que son de mediana edad, pues no son tan antiguos para que queden totalmente expuestos. Pueden estar conectados con otros y algunos son tan cristalinos que se puede admirar su flora y fauna bajo el agua. Por último, están los cenotes abiertos como el caso de Hoyo Hicaco. Se puede acceder a él por la Autovía El Coral, aproximadamente a unos diez kilómetros del Village de Punta Cana. El desvío se halla a un kilómetro antes de la caseta verde del Ministerio de Medioambiente. Desde ahí uno debe dejar el vehículo y hacer el camino a pie durante unos veinte minutos. Después de ese tiempo, en una larga franja de arena parda mezclada con piedras, hallamos este cenote de aguas cristalinas a unos cinco metros sobre el nivel del mar. Los cenotes abiertos son los más viejos, ya que, con el paso del tiempo, el techo que los cubría cede y se desploma, dejándolos a la intemperie. Destacan por su belleza natural, ya que generalmente sus paredes se tapizan de plantas y flores, que visten la roca de tonalidades verdes, rojas y naranjas, además de la gran variedad de aves e insectos que habitan en su entorno. Una experiencia única para estar en contacto con la naturaleza y reencontrarse con parte de lo que fueron las formaciones originales de República Dominicana.

Volver a ‘casa’, siempre fue un sueño, sobraban motivos: el clima, la familia, la calidad de vida, en fin los orígenes... ¿Tu regreso transcurre como imaginabas? El cambio cultural fue un choque muy fuerte. Al llegar me dí cuenta que realmente no pertenecía ni aquí ni allí o que pertenezco a las dos culturas que al final son hermanas. ¿Qué sientes en tu primera etapa en el país? Todo me hace vibrar, el paisaje, la comida, la música, el baile... !siento que soy de aquí! ¿En los primeros años dejas de lado tu carrera profesional? Sí y no. Por un lado no dejo de formarme y busco mi refugio en la lectura, la literatura, la poesía temas que siempre me han atraído y aprovecho esta etapa para profundizar más mi aprendizaje. Por otro lado son unos años que tengo que centrarme en estructrurar mi familia, adaptarnos todos a una nueva vida, la rutina y la estabilidad. ¿Cuál es tu sueño profesional en este momento? !Actuar, donde sea! ¿Qué personajes prefieres interpretar, la mala o la buena? Me gustan todos. Es como si no tuviera suficiente con vivir mi vida. Siempre hay algo que merece ser contado y alguien que se va a sentir identificado.

I always was an impatient girl; I never stop looking for new adventures. So, I started my artistic instruction at school when my teachers decided to change me to the art subjects when I was only 12 years old. I felt so happy. Since then, I’m in continuous learning all the time. And... love comes without knocking at the door? Yes, totally (laughs). I was a very young mother, and we formed a big family. We decided to come back to roots and moved to live in the Dominican Republic. For my husband’s career, it was the geographically ideal place for his success. Was it fortuitous to come back to RD, to your roots? Going back ‘home’ was always a dream, there were plenty of reasons, the weather, the family, the life quality, in short, the origins... Does your return look like as you imagined it? The cultural change was a huge shock. When I arrived, I realized that I did not belong here or there, I belong to the two cultures that, at the end of the day, are sisters. What do you feel in your first phase in the country? Everything makes me vibrate, the landscape, the food, the music, the dance... I feel like I’m from here! Have you put your professional career in a second-place for the first years? Yes and no. “Doña Rosa Ortiz, la

Es una pequeña asociación que tiene como objetivo alfabetizar a personas y proporcionarles conocimientos. Doña Rosa Ortiz, la matriarca y fundadora de la asociación, es una enfermera retirada de unos 80 años, un alma brillante que ofrece todo el apoyo necesario a los niños: educación, formación, alimento, ropa... cubre todas sus necesidades. La mayoría regresan por la tarde con sus familias pero eso no implica que al llegar haya alguien esperándoles en casa. Es una labor muy impactante. Viven en condiciones límites y no saben que a dos calles esta la civilización, que se tienen que preparar para poder salir ahí fuera el día de mañana. Doña Rosa les describe como futuros delincuentes, no porque tengan un mal corazón, sino porque al final el individuo solo sabe que necesita comer, domir y sus necesidades fisiológicas. Cuando no tienen para comer, roban, cuando les vence el sueño duermen donde sea pues simplemente necesitan cubrir sus necesidades básicas, de hecho como todo el mundo. Si nadie les ha enseñado una mínima educación y unos valores, aparece el instinto animal que todos los humanos llevamos dentro: cazar si tengo que comer o alimentar a los mios. Personalmente empiezo a colaborar con el proyecto impartiendo clases de teatro. En un primer momento y antes de entrar en materia tenían que aprender algo tan básico como la disciplina, respetar los turnos, atender en clase antes de trasladar cualquier conocimento artístico. ¿Que te ha aportado esta experiencia a nivel personal? Crecimiento. He aprendido mucho más de ellos de lo que he conseguido enseñarles. Cuando tienes todas las necesidades básicas cubiertas te olvidas de lo más sencillo, el amor incondicional hacia el prójimo. Doña Rosa representa mi leit motiv, la perseverancia : siempre insistía, persistía y nunca desistía y así lo reflejé en un documental (mariaelisaperalta/yo hablo con quien sea). ¿Sientes una atracción especial por el teatro ? El teatro cobró sentido cuando me di cuenta que es una herramienta para poder ayudar a los demás. A nivel emocional te ayuda a verbalizar tus emociones, todo es expresión física, corporal y verbal, te lleva a conocerte a ti mismo. Con los niños jugábamos a ¿quién quieres ser ? y potenciando su creatividad y con su actuación se dan cuenta y visualizan que pueden llegar donde se propongan.

It is a small group of people who have the goal of literate people and provide them with knowledge. Ms. Rosa Ortiz, the matriarch and founder of the association, is a retired nurse in her 80s. She’s a brilliant soul who offers all the support the children need: education, instruction, food, clothing. She covers all their demands. Most children return to their families in the afternoon, but that does not mean that, upon arrival, someone is waiting for them at home. It is a truly compelling work. They live in quite hard conditions and do not know that civilization is just two blocks away and that they have to prepare themselves to go out there tomorrow. Doña Rosa says they could be the future criminals, and it is not because they have evil hearts or darksouls, it is because the individual only knows that they need to eat, sleep, and cover physiological needs. When they do not have something to eat, they steal from people; if they sleep in the streets, they do it to satisfy their primary needs, as everyone else needs. If no one has taught them the least education and values, the animal instinct that all humans have inside will appear, hunting if I have to eat or feed mine. I began to collaborate with the project by teaching theater lessons. At first, and before entering the class, they had to learn something as essential as a discipline, respect turns, and attend the class before teaching any artistic knowledge. What has this experience taught you? Growth. I have learned much more from them than I have been able to teach them. When you have all the basic needs covered, you forget the simplest, unconditional love for your neighbor. Doña Rosa represents my leitmotif, perseverance: I always insisted, persisted and never gave up, and I reflected that in a documentary. Do you feel a special attraction for theater? The theater made sense when I realized it is a tool to help others. On an emotional level, it helps you to verbalize your emotions, everything is the physical, bodily and verbal expression, it takes you to know yourself. We played with the children “who do you want to be?”, enhancing their creativity, and through their performance, they realize and visualize that they can get wherever they want to.

También me encantaría trabajar con Scarlet Johanson, Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman.... !Tengo una larga lista! ¿Cuál es tu meta? Sería feliz ayudando a otras personas a llegar donde yo quiero llegar. A lo mejor alcanzo mi éxito a través del suyo, en el acompañamiento, la persona que te guia es muy importante. ¿Entonces, coach o actriz? !Las dos! de cualquiera de las dos experiencias se aprende y se ayuda, es un intercambio, nadie tiene la herramienta perfecta que te lleve a tu objetivo. ¿A que casting te gustaría asistir de series o películas? Como serie me ha gustado mucho Vis a Vis, porque todas las mujeres tienen en común el bajo fondo y aunque esten condenadas como agresoras son víctimas. Esa dualidad me atrae. ¿Porqué las series estan tan de moda actualmente? Por el contenido. Hemos evolucionado de una manera en la que no estamos preparados para películas largas. En las plataformas digitales no tenemos interrupciones publicitarias y podemos decidir en que momento queremos verlo. Estos detalles han hecho más atractivo este formato. ¿Qué cambiarías de tu vida? (Duda mucho...) Me gustaría que todos fuéramos menos exigentes, que bajaramos un poco la guardia y disfrutáramos más del aquí y ahora, que seamos más conscientes del momento que vivimos. Para Elisa “El ser vivo actúa por naturaleza, va más allá de nuestro propia consciencia, todo el mundo tiene la capacidad de actuar ante un problema o una adversidad, tanto el ser humano como el animal. Unos se quedan inmóviles justo antes de atacar como si fueran indefensos, es una actuación para capturar a la presa. Otros se hacen los muertos hasta que pasa el peligro”. La vida es un teatro y vivimos en una actuación constante.

El hándicap ha llegado con estudios recientes que demuestran que, seguir una dieta sin gluten si uno no es celíaco, es algo innecesario y no tiene ningún efecto positivo para el organismo. Cuando Miguel Ángel Pol Vaquer nació en Palma de Mallorca allá por el año 1972, estaba predestinado a seguir la tradición familiar y por ello se matriculó en Derecho y Economía en la Universidad

stando ya en la Universidad, seguía sintiendo una atracción apasionada por el deporte: “Se cruza en mi camino Francisco Forteza Negra quien me lleva a la cuna de campeones de físicoculturismo de la época. Fue un flechazo y me enamoré completamente de dicho deporte, comenzó en ese momento un matrimonio con esta disciplina que me ha traído hasta el día de hoy”. Pasan los años y vive de competición en competición cosechando títulos a nivel nacional hasta clasificarse en el campeonato de Europa en Alemania. Decide volver “a casa” y un fatídico accidente le provoca fracturas múltiples en la pierna izquierda de las cuales tuvo que ser intervenido hasta en 7 ocasiones. “Al ser un deportista federado y con la intención de proseguir mi carrera me pusieron varias prótesis y algún que otro tornillo. Lo más duro llegó cuando los médicos me informan que por la severidad de la lesión, ya no podría practicar deporte, de por vida. Lejos de darme por vencido, decido buscar más opiniones pues mi carrera deportiva como atleta estaba despegando y me sentía frustrado”. Hundido tanto física como psicológicamente Miguel acude a la consulta del doctor Ramón Sancho Fuertes, traumatólogo de la Clinica Deixus en Barcelona “fue mi salvación, de la mano de esta eminencia volví a caminar”. El conjunto de lo vivido le lleva a plantearse la vida desde otra perspectiva y la primera decisión que

I worked very hard in the gym, and the results were amazing, I realized how wonderful the human body and muscular physiology are”. Finally, he got his degree as Specialist in High-Performance Sports Medicine, from The National Academy of Sports Medicine, in Utah USA, in 1999. Trabajé muy duro en el gimnasio y los resultados fueron sorprendentes, me dí cuenta de lo maravilloso que es el cuerpo humano y la fisiología muscular”. Finalmente consigue licenciarse en 1999 obteniendo el titulo de Especialista en Medicina deportiva de alto rendimiento, avalado por The National Academy of Sports Medicine en Utah USA. Pero no solo eso, aprendió algo más importante: a escuchar a su cuerpo. Los esclavos africanos dejaban fermentar el jugo de caña y creaban una bebida embriagante. Dicen los historiadores que les recordaba a un jugo de maíz y yuca que tomaban en sus aldeas, y que llamaban garapa. Así, el guarapo es el jugo de la caña de azúcar fermentado o no. El guarapo es una bebida de fabricación artesanal, que se obtiene por el proceso de fermentación de los jugos ricos en carbohidratos (principalmente sacarosa) extraídos de la caña de azúcar. El jugo del tallo es la principal fuente de azúcar. Después de cosechar la caña, pasa bajo unas cuchillas desmenuzadoras, para luego pasar al trapiche. Este líquido se depura por una serie de filtros; a continuación, se somete a un tratamiento clarificante y de ahí se coloca en depósitos de cocción al vacío, donde se concentra; por último, se cristaliza el azúcar. Una vez cristalizado el azúcar, se extrae el agua restante, y así queda el azúcar blanco común que se conoce habitualmente. Las raíces y el guarapo tienen significativos valores como diuréticos. También en la farmacopea es utilizado el dulce para enmascarar el sabor de las medicinas. El polvo de azúcar es muy bueno para reprimir las carnosidades que se manifiestan alrededor de los cauterios. Por eso, cuando llegó a sus oídos la leyenda de Barriga Verde, la transcribió sobre el papel para que quedara impertérrita en la memoria de todos aquellos que quisieran conocer más de cerca, las historias que se vivieron en la ciudad Primada de América.

uenta la narrativa popular que en tiempo de la Colonia, un niño de aproximadamente cinco años fue abandonado en las calles de Santo Domingo. La pobreza del infante hacía que llevara una camisa raída por la que se dejaban ver sus venas azuladas sobre el blanco de su hinchado vientre, como consecuencia de la fuerte hambruna que atravesaba desde hacía tiempo. Sobre ella, exhibía un chaleco viejo y haraposo, de color verde. Señas de identidad que motivaron que todos le conocieran por el nombre de Barriga Verde. Un día, la esposa de Taita Polanco, un artesano de la ciudad, que moraba en el callejón de la Esperanza, le vio e informó a su esposo sobre la situación del niño. Esta pareja, generosa y hospitalaria, fue en su busca para brindarle techo y comida en su casa. Aunque nadie de la urbe conocía la procedencia del muchacho, Taita y su esposa, le tomaron cariño y elogiaban su inteligencia. Con el paso del tiempo, el niño comenzó a llamar papá y mamá a sus benefactores. Protegido y protectores eran inseparables, y se proferían amor y respeto. El viejo Taita Polanco inscribió al muchacho en la escuela para que se formaba académicamente pero andaba con recelo de quienes se acercaban al pequeño preguntando detalles de su vida. Un día, Taito recibió una carta oficial desde España. La Corte reclamaba a un niño español desaparecido. Así que, Barriga Verde tuvo que ser restituido a su hogar y a su patria, despidiéndose para siempre de sus padres postizos con los que había sembrado una nueva vida en la isla. Al paso de muchos años, Taita Polanco fue invitado por un escribano a acompañarle a España. El anciano se marchó, después de recibir el permiso de su discreta mujer. Después de unos meses, nuestro protagonista se vio en el bullicioso Madrid. Un día en la calle, escuchó la voz de un joven que le llamaba papá. El desconocido le abrazó y preguntó: “¡Mi querido papá! ¿Qué ya no me conoce? ¡Soy Barriga Verde!” Taita Polanco, por un momento pensó que soñaba, pero era verdad. Su hijo estaba frente a él. Entonces supo que pertenecía a la nobleza, pero no solo a la adquirida por un título, sino a la del corazón. Barriga Verde le llevó ante el rey, quien le otorgó títulos y regalos para él y su mujer, y le concedió la distinción de llevar una espada, asistir en Jueves Santo a la catedral y comulgar con el gobernador. Además, el privilegio de portar la Cruz de Malta. Cuando regresó a su tierra con estos honores, Taita siguió viviendo en su misma casa, con su mismo oficio y de la misma forma. César Nicolás Penson logró plasmar a través de esta historia, los elementos sociales, políticos y culturales de tiempos de la colonia, pero, sobre todo, los valores de solidaridad, amor, generosidad, empatía, humildad e igualdad que imperaban en la isla.

Los estados de ánimo normalmente se tratan como positivos o negativos, pero debemos profundizar en ellos. Estar enfadado o malhumorado, se trata de un sentimiento de disgusto y mala disposición

resentado en Fiorano, el mítico circuito de pruebas de la marca, el impresionante trabajo de diseño aerodinámico traducido en una carrocería de estampa limpia y muy deportiva, no ha dejado indiferente a nadie. Presenta voladizos muy compactos (más corto el trasero que el delantero) y una cabina avanzada que resalta la posición central del motor. La cabina en forma de burbuja imita una cabina de avión, subrayando su avance por la posición de los montantes traseros al techo, mientras los faros de diodos ya no son en forma de L sino horizontal fina integrada con las tomas de aire de los frenos, con una forma de C original y futurista, y utilizando por vez primera en un Ferrari la tecnología de iluminación matricial de control activo de haz para mejorar la visibilidad en todas las condiciones de conducción. La zaga por su parte se distingue por las colas de escape altas y la forma de la luneta, que no sigue la línea del techo al parachoques, separada por la rejilla de enfriamiento. Las luces traseras evolucionan desde la clásica forma circular, con anillos luminosos más apaisados que refuerzan la sensación de anchura y rebajan la de altura.

EL SALPICADERO PRESENTA UN DISEÑO AMPLIO Y ENVOLVENTE, CON EL BOTÓN DE ARRANQUE EN EL TÚNEL CENTRAL

Cabina futurista. En cuanto al interior, domina el objetivo explícito de crear una cabina de pilotaje en un ambiente envolvente y aeronáutico con especial énfasis en la instrumentación. Por primera vez en un Ferrari, el cuadro central de instrumentos comprende una única pantalla HD de 16 pulgadas curvada hacia el conductor para facilitar la lectura, completamente configurable y controlable usando los mandos del volante. El volante tiene un panel y una serie de botones táctiles para que el conductor controle todas las funciones con sus pulgares. Destaca el mando rotatorio para el control de crucero, solución derivada de la Fórmula 1, mientras que en la sección inferior izquierda del área central hay 4 botones para seleccionar los modos de conducción, y el “Head Up Display” permite la proyección de datos en el parabrisas dentro del campo de visión del conductor. Como guiño retro, la nueva caja de cambios automática se acciona mediante una rejilla, en referencia al legendario cambio de marchas manual de Ferrari. Nuevo tren de potencia híbrido. El punto de máxima atracción de este Ferrari SF90 Stradale es sin duda la introducción en la marca de una nueva mecánica híbrida enchufable y también, por primera vez en la historia, con tracción total. Esta se consigue al combinar los dos motores eléctricos que mueven el tren delantero, con el motor V8 a 90º que conecta con el tren trasero. El SF90 Stradale monta el motor V8 biturbo de los últimos Ferrari, con sus 8 cilindros en V a 90° y 780 CV, la mayor potencia de todos los V8 en la historia de Ferrari. Los 220 CV restantes hasta completar la potencia total proceden de tres motores eléctricos, uno situado entre el motor y el cambio de doble embrague de 8 marchas sobre el eje trasero, y dos en el eje delantero (uno en cada rueda). Así, con 1.000 CV y una relación peso potencia de poco más kilo y medio por CV, este Ferrari híbrido “berlinetta” (o sea biplaza de motor central) de motor V8 se sitúa en el tope de gama de su oferta por primera vez en la historia de la marca. Aparte del modo eDrive, el SF90 cuenta con tres modos más de conducción, a elegir a través del “e-Manettino“; el modo “Híbrido” prede-

terminado para optimizar la eficiencia general del sistema de forma autónoma, tanto a motor de combustión funcionando como parado. Luego está el modo “Performance”, que a diferencia del híbrido mantiene el V8 en funcionamiento porque la prioridad es más cargar la batería que la eficiencia, y finalmente el “Qualify” que permite la máxima potencia de salida con los motores eléctricos a su potencial máximo, priorizando el rendimiento sobre la carga de la batería. Todo bajo control... electrónico. Por supuesto, la nueva arquitectura híbrida requirió un extenso trabajo de integración de las diferentes lógicas de control del vehículo, desde el control del sistema de alto voltaje (batería, RAC-e, inversor MGUK, etc) al control del motor y cambio, y controles de la dinámica del vehículo(tracción, frenado, vector de par). Todo ello sin perjuicio de un chasis más rígido y ligero, capaz de neutralizar los 270 kg extra del sistema híbrido a base del empleo de nuevos materiales y procesos (piezas fundidas huecas en vez de las fundidas tradicionales, mamparo de fibra de carbono entre cabina y motor, nuevas aleaciones de aluminio... El resultado es un chasis con un 20% más de rigidez a la flexión y un 40% más a la torsión sin ningún aumento de peso. Lo que parece increíble. Aerodinámica optimizada... ¡para no despegar! La mejora de potencia y tracción ha exigido lograr una eficiencia aerodinámica a un nivel nunca antes alcanzado por Ferrari, asegurando un óptimo funcionamiento simultáneo de todo el conjunto. El resultado ha sido impresionante, con casi 400 kg de carga dinámica extra que hace del Ferrari SF90 Stradale la nueva referencia aerodinámica entre los superdeportivos de altas prestaciones. Porque es una energía inteligente, es decir, puedes usar este sistema como calefacción o aire acondicionado y también para la producción de agua caliente sanitaria, lo que te ahorra dinero y la reducción del consumo de energía en más de un 70%. Consigues la mayor parte de la energía del aire y con una pequeña parte de energía de la electricidad, de manera que ahorraras en el gasto de luz. Las bombas de calor usan una pequeña porción de electricidad para su funcionamiento, de manera que la mayoría de su energía la obtiene del aire, por lo que es bastante ecológico. Está claro que no es la panacea, pero se acerca mucho al tipo de Smart cities del futuro, donde los ciudadanos están cada vez más empoderados sobre el modelo de sociedad que necesitan.
