La humildad frente a la soberbia Humility vs. Pride chando la vista atrás y haciendo balance de todo lo que hemos vivido y aprendido en estos años, lo más destacable es sin duda la cantidad de gente que hemos conocido en el camino. Personas y personalidades de todo tipo, artistas y cantantes internacionalmente reconocidos, grandes empresarios del mundo de la hosteleria, maestros del cine y la música... en fin, una larga lista de
Pero como en la vida nada es blanco o negro, también es justo mencionar a aquellas personas que habiendo llegado muy alto les domina la soberbía y no olvidemos que es un pecado capital.
individuos que nos han aportado grandes experiencias. Si algo nos gustaría destacar es la gentileza y amabilidad con la que nos han recibido todas estas personas. A veces tendemos a idealizarlas simplemente porque foman parte de « un mundo » en el que no nos movemos, que lo vemos muy lejano. Pero como en la vida nada es blanco o negro, también es justo mencionar a aquellas personas que habiendo llegado muy alto les domina la soberbía y no olvidemos que es un pecado capital. Quizás va acompañado del poder, o simplemente según la teoría de ciertos psicólogos es falta de seguridad. Hay que saber mirar al frente y a los lados porque uno mismo sin todos los demás no es nada. Lo cierto es que si el éxito te ha acompañado en la vida, no lo empañes con soberbia, riégalo con humildad. Como decía el gran escritor Ernest Hemingway “el secreto de la sabiduría, el poder y el conocimiento, radica en la humildad”.

Sometimes, we tend to simply idealize them just because they are part of “the world” we do not belong to and for us seems unreachable. As everything is not totally black and white, it is as important to mention all those who have succeeded in life might be tamed by pride too. Not to mention it is one of the seven deadly sins. It might be related to power or simply as some scientists claim, the lack of self-confidence can lead them to act like that. We should check what is in front and around us. We cannot exist without anyone or anything, we are not entirely isolated. If success make presence in our lives, why tarnishing it with pride? Spread out your success with humility. Ernest Hemingway used to say: “The secret of wisdom, power and knowledge is humility”.

Una leyenda local, de esas que hacen volar la imaginación y permiten la duda, se mantiene en la tradición oral dominicana. Se trata del Jardín del Edén.
A local legend that makes your creativity fly and makes you doubtful, still stay around in the Dominican oral tradition. It is the Garden of Eden. l cuento narra cómo un joven campesino caminaba sin rumbo buscando saciar su sed cuando, después de poner su ansiado requerimiento en manos de Dios y de mucho esfuerzo atravesando montañas y lugares angostos, atisbó a ver un paraje maravilloso preñado de frutas y flores, coronado por un espectacular río de aguas cristalinas. Detrás de este entorno de sueño halló también otro afluente, con la salvedad inusual de que sus aguas eran de color rojo. Al frondoso vergel le llamó Valle de Dios y al curioso río, Arroyo Colorao. Para acceder al Valle de Dios y por tanto, al Arroyo Colorao, se tiene que llegar a la pequeña comunidad de Santana, ubicada a unos diez kilómetros del municipio de Los Cacaos, localidad rural que pertenece a la provincia de San Cristóbal, esta última, a unos 25 km de Santo Domingo tomando la Autopista 6 de Noviembre. Un viaje de algo más de una hora desde la capital del país, en el que se pueden admirar los numerosos cafetales de la zona y deleitarse con los cafetos, los árboles de aproximadamente seis metros de altura, con hojas verdes y flores blancas, cuyo fruto, una baya roja, contienen las semillas o granos de café. he story narrates about a young peasant who would aimlessly walk around to quench his thirst but decided to leave it in God´s hands after hiking big mountains and narrowed paths. He glimpsed a beautiful landscape full of fruits and flowers crowned by an amazing crystal-clear water river. Right just behind such a dream place, he found another affluent with a particularity, its water was colored in red. He named this luxuriant orchard “The Valley of God” and the curious river, he called it “Red Creek”. To access this Valley of God and the Red Creek, you must reach the little community of Santana which is located 10 km away from Los Cacaos district. This rural place belongs to San Cristobal providence. If you take “Autopista 6 de Noviembre” highway, it is 25 km away from Santo Domingo. It is somewhat an hour trip from the capital. You may enjoy numerous coffee plantations along the way, 20-feet tall trees with green leaves and most importantly that can be seen white flowers whose red coffee grounds can be seemed from the distance. Para llegar al Valle de Dios desde la comunidad rural de Santana, se tiene que acceder al Parque Nacional Montaña La Humeadora. Una caminata de casi siete kilómetros, en la que se requiere de buena forma física, con pendientes empinadas y difíciles de recorrer. Por eso, el tiempo de duración del viaje variará en base a las condiciones atléticas de cada cual, aunque el promedio está entre dos y cuatros horas. Los jilgueros y otras aves autóctonas sobrevuelan el paisaje mientras se realiza el recorrido de este fértil suelo en este pequeño valle situado al abrigo de los montes. Un paseo intenso, con vigilancia de los guarda parques y una cambiante vegetación y el espectacular valle de coníferas del Parque. En este entorno incomparable se halla el Arroyo Colorao, un gran vaso sanguíneo que recorre durante varios kilómetros el Parque. Según el geógrafo dominicano, Luis José Infanzón Vásquez, el color rojo de sus aguas se debe al hierro que contienen las rocas volcánicas sobre las que atraviesa este afluente. El agua meteoriza la roca oxidándola y de ahí viene su color rojizo. El experto sostiene que los suelos selváticos rojos se desarrollan cuando la pluviometría es alta y las rocas se descomponen, se oxidan y dan paso a la generación de suelos ácidos y férricos. La flora autóctona como el mangle rojo, árbol tropical que vive en ambientes de agua dulce y salada, es otro elemento que condiciona el color del caudal del afluente, al que muchos lugareños denominan sangre de Dios. Un viaje extraordinario, por su belleza y naturaleza, a este río cuyas aguas están teñidas de rojo fuego. Un paraje, muy poco conocido por los visitantes que llegan a República Dominicana y que el público local está comenzando a valorar como recurso turístico importante para el país.

It might be called an intense yet safe trip. Forestguards oversee this changing environment and the spectacular coniferous valley at all times. The Red creek is found in this one-of-a-kind environment. It looks like a large blood vessel that runs through the park for miles and miles. According to the Dominican geographer, José Infanzón Vásquez, the red color is due to the quantity of iron of the volcanic rocks that the river drags out along the way. The rock weathering colors the water. He claims that red forest floors develop when the rainfall is high and the rocks decompose, get oxidized and thus lead to acidic and ferric soils. The red mangrove is also part of this authentic flora. It is a tropical tree that lives in fresh and salt water and also affects the color of the flow. Local people call it the “The blood of God”. An extraordinary journey highlighted by the natural beauty, especially by its amazing fire red colored river. A spot hardly known by visitors that arrive in Dominican Republic, yet locals started to appreciate it more as a touristic destination certainly quite valuable for the country.

La fusión está muy presente en la nueva generación de músicos y compositores dominicanos, que ven en la mezcla de los ritmos caribeños una prueba de fe sobre la autenticidad de las tradiciones locales. Ejemplo de ello es Riccie Oriach, un artista con alma rockera, tímido, singular y con una importante carga de sensibilidad humana, que forja sus composiciones personales, ácidas y satíricas, a través de la compilación de recuerdos de infancia y pensamientos de la misma cotidianidad. Historias con personajes tildados con los colores vibrantes del Trópico y la mezcla de géneros como el son de la bachata, el merengue, la cumbia, el gagá, el rock, el jazz, el metal, el guaguancó o la zarandunga, que invitan al baile mediante la conexión cercana y vital con el público. Un público que se deja hipnotizar no sólo por el ritmo, sino por La Alucinante Banda, sus compañeros sobre el escenario.
Fusion is nowadays present in the new generation of Dominican musicians and song-writers. They keep faith in such a fusion and the authenticity of local rhythm in every Caribbean beat. Riccie Oriach is a living example. He is an artist with a rock ´n roll soul. Sometimes a bit shy, yet with a particular human sensibility that makes his lyrics be somewhat personal, with an acid and satirical sense of humor. He compiles childhood memories and day-to-day anecdotes. He likes including vibrant tropical and colorful characters mixed up with some bachata, merengue, cumbia, gagá, rock, jazz, metal, guaguancó or zarandunga. All these rhythms invite everyone to dance. Music connects so easily with people. The spectators get hypnotized not only by the rhythms, but also with the good vibes of his bandmates: “La Alucinante Banda”.

Puede ser que por eso, desde los primeros días de su lanzamietno y durante tres semanas consecutivas, todas las canciones se posicionaron entre las cincuenta más virales de Spotify en República Dominicana, estando la mitad de estas entre los primeros diez puestos. Un trabajo fruto de la autogestión y las colaboraciones con un enorme grupo de jóvenes artistas, actores, diseñadores, gestores, productores, realizadores audiovisuales, fotógrafos y camarógrafos, que creen en el proyecto y que han hecho que canciones como La Guayaba; El Mosquitero; La Prima Tecata; Viaje al Infinito; La Dueña o La Flor tengan un protagonismo propio. He brought all this tropical mood into it; which, by the way, he feels so proud of. He seems shy, but on stage, he displays all his energy through his meaningful lyrics and powerful melodies. Due to his contagious positivism, he succeeded in positioning all his songs in the top 50 Spotify list in Dominican Republic for about 3 weeks just right after their release. All songs became viral and half of them remained within the first top 10. A hard work made possible thanks to self-management and a vast collaboration of young artists, actors, designers, managers, producers, audiovisual staff, photographers, and camera men. Escenarios dentro del país en Santo Domingo, La Vega, Cabarete, San Francisco, Bávaro, Santiago o La Romana han sido testigos del buen manejo público de Riccie Oriach. Fuera de las fronteras dominicanas, su gira en Colombia ha estado marcada por el éxito de sus diez conciertos. ¿Por qué te adentraste en el mundo de la música? Desde pequeño escuchaba música. Mis primos oían rock internacional y me aficioné a este género. Al principio comencé con una agrupación de punk rock pero luego me marché a Estados Unidos y empecé a componer. Cuando regresé al país trabajé con ese material y le añadí esa fusión con ritmos locales. ¿Qué tienen las letras de tus canciones? Mi abuela es de la provincia de La Vega, así que tienen muchos recuerdos de mi infancia. También tienen mucho de la forma relajada del dominicano. No todas las canciones tienen que ser serias. En La Prima Tecata hay mucha mezcla de ironía, humor y sarcasmo. En República Dominicana nos creemos que somos extranjeros y nos centramos en nuestros defectos y no en nuestras virtudes. ¿Cómo definirías tu música? Son ritmos afroantillanos. Con cariño la llamo rock and rock fusión pero no lo hago como nuevo género. Simplemente que mi fusión es más flexible, no está tan encorchetada, aunque incluya un acordeón alemán, siempre va a tener algo dominicano. Más que por géneros, a la música la veo por colores, los colores de la música. ¿Cómo te inspiras? Realmente es como si tuviera una voz que va saliendo y hasta que no cojo el lápiz no me suelta, la tengo conmigo en el día a día. La tranquilidad me ayuda mucho para concentrarme y dejar fluir todas las ideas que llegan a mi cabeza. ¿Qué significa para ti tu banda? Con La Alucinante banda empezó todo, así que la conexión con sus integrantes es algo fluido, orgánico, aunque también es cierto que no es la única banda con la que toco. Sea como fuere, en el escenario lo que trato es de compartir mi sentido del humor y contagiar al público de ese relajo.

Outside the Dominican border, his Colombian tour was marked by the success of his 10 shows. Why did you get involved in the music business? When I was a child, I used to listen to music. My cousins were into rock and roll and I fell in love with it immediately. At the beginning, I started off playing in a punk rock band, but I decided to leave for the US. It was just then when I started to write songs. When I got back to DR, I used those songs and added some local rhythms. What are your songs all about? My grandma is from La Vega providence, my songs are about my memories from my childhood. It has also some of the laid-back Dominican lifestyle. Not every song has to be that serious. For example, I mixed some irony, humor and sarcasm in “La Prima Tecata” song. We, Dominicans, consider ourselves “foreigners” and focus mainly on our defects rather than our virtues. How would you define your music? It is a mix of Afro-Antillean rhythms. With all respect, I call it rock and roll fusion. I do not intend to create a new genre, simply my fusion is more flexible. It is not bracketed. Although it includes a German accordion, it will always have a Dominican touch. Instead of creating genres, I see music like colors, the colors of music. How do you get inspired? Actually, it is like having a voice inside that comes out naturally. It will not stop ringing until I grab a pencil and start writing. I have it with me all day long. Tranquility helps me a lot to concentrate as well as let it flow. What does your band mean to you? Everything started off with the band. The connection with my bandmates runs organically and smoothly. Not to mention, it is not the only band I play with. Either way, I love sharing my sense of humor with my audience at every show and get them engaged with fun. Why do you compose songs? When I started to compose, I did it just for me. I am very possessive of my music. I enjoy playing. I do not make music

¿Por qué compones? Cuando empecé a componer lo hacía sólo para mí. Soy muy celoso con mi música pero lo cierto es que disfruto cuando toco. No hago música para transcender porque soy una persona reservada pero entiendo el poder que tiene y quiero compartirlo. ¿Qué sientes en los conciertos fuera de República Dominciana? Me siento muy agradecido. En Colombia sobre todo. Allí la gente es muy cálida con lo nuevo y mi propuesta les llamó la atención. Llevamos dos años yendo y cada vez la aceptación es mayor. ¿Qué piensas de la música e Internet? Las nuevas herramientas de Internet hacen más fácil el incremento y variedad de opciones musicales. Creo que lo mejor se queda y lo demás se recicla. Lo importante es hacer música y lograr transmitir el mensaje, más allá del medio por el que se haga. ¿Qué piensas de los nuevos escenarios musicales del país? Me parecen fabulosos. However, I do not think the number of followers determines your real fans. My internet fans and I are quite close. I reply their questions and try to keep them informed. What makes you feel excited about this 2018 tour? We have already closed some deals in the US but are thinking about visiting Europe. We will visit Colombia again, which makes me happy. I love Colombia. I have high expectations on Mexico though.

olores alegres y vivos, regalándonos la belleza y calidez del Caribe, preñan las creaciones de Cándido Bidó, composiciones vibrantes en las que planea casi siempre, la paloma, sobrevolando paisajes y figuras, como un deseo de esperanza y buena voluntad, en definitiva, una alegoría de la importancia de la paz, de la paz en el mundo, ese mundo que tanto pintó y reinventó. Creaciones con un mensaje de optimismo donde el naranja, amarillo, rojo y azul impregnan cada lienzo de trazos abruptos, sólidos y rotundos sobre los diferentes personajes que construye. En el centro de esta policromía, Bidó es fruto de una síntesis depurada de las escuelas impresionista y expresionista, continuador de los focos rebeldes finiseculares del XIX, de la simiente encarnada en el sesgo de Van Gogh y Gauguin, sin excluir al también dominicano y no menos universal, el Maestro Gilberto Hernández Ortega. Fiel amante de las bondades de la naturaleza y de la mujer como figura dadora de vida, sus figuras femeninas abrazan con ternura a sus bebés, y se conectan con el mundo a través de personajes que carecen de ojos. Huecos sin párpados. Ojos que no duermen ni están ciegos. Sus miradas no se contagian con lo real externo para vivir un mundo interior con mayor justicia social, aquella que nos acerca a un estado de mayor felicidad, que trasciende a las razas y clases sociales. Una ilusión que enmarca en diferentes técnicas como el acrílico, el óleo, el gouache, los crayones, las aguadas y la tinta. Su particular destreza con el pincel, le llevó a adquirir fama internacional pero lo cierto es que Bidó siempre fue un artista que lejos de vanagloriarse de sus éxitos, amaba la simplicidad de las cosas. Quizás que naciera en Bonao, una provincia del interior del país, un 20 de mayo de 1936, en el seno de una familia humilde, su papá era zapatero remendón, y que permaneciera allí hasta su adolescencia incidiera en su carácter, de temperamento silencioso y en esta particular visión del mundo, donde lo verdaderamente

Creations that spread optimism and in which the orange, yellow, red and blue fulfill the canvas with abrupt, solid and resounding strokes on the different characters he built. Bidó, in the middle of this polychrome, is the result of a refined synthesis of the impressionist and expressionist schools, an extension of the nineteenth century rebellious focuses, the seed embodied in the bias of Van Gogh and Gauguin and the no less recognized, the Dominican Master Gilberto Hernández Ortega. Faithful lover of the kindness of nature and women as a life-giving figure, his female sculptures cradle their babies and get connected with the world through figures that have no eyes. Just gaps with no eyelids. Eyes that are not slept neither blind. Those sights doesn’t get involved with external reality to live in an interior world full of social justice, that justice which take us to a state of happiness that transcend races and social classes. He expressed these illusions through different techniques such as acrylic, oil, gouache, crayons, watercolor and ink. Although his particular ability with the brush made of him an international figure, Bido was always an artist that loved simplicity of things instead of boasting his fame. Maybe the fact of growing up in Bonao, in a humble family with a cobbler father, until he was a teenager, was a determinant for his silence temperament. The small province where he was born on May 20, 1936 had made him developed a particular interpretation of world where insignificant things were the

En Santo Domingo inició su sueño de convertirse en artista plástico, por eso, comenzó su orientación en el Colegio Serafín de Asís, donde trabajaba como muchacho de mandado, bajo la orientación de la Madre Superiora Sor Julia, perfeccionando sus técnicas y donde premiaba con maíz matinal a las palomas que se congregaban frente a él cada día, en el alero del patio. Para continuar con su formación académica se inscribe en la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. En la década de los 60 se convierte en profesor de la misma, una posición que ocuparía hasta 1982, combinándolo con exposiciones individuales en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Panamá,

Master of the Dominican plastic arts, he won the XII Biennial of Fine Arts, with his painting “The lovers of the village”. It is a portrait that, beyond idyllic beings, reflects their apparent idyllic experience. “It is true that I´ve been inspired by Fauves, by impressionist... But I did it in my way. I have created my own personality through painting”, he said in an interview. As his social commitment legacy, he founded the School of Arts of the Dominican Air Force in Santo Domingo, and the Candido Bido Art Center where he taught painting, drawing, and sculpting. In his natal city, Bonao, he created with a group of councilors the Bonao Foundation for Culture, Inc. which is the governing body of the Bonao Culture Square, an entity composed by an arts center where hundreds of people, including children and adults, that attend to acquire disciplines of the Fine Arts. The Candido Bido Art Museum is part of this initiative, it is a center where his collections are regularly exhibited as well as others most recognized Dominican Masters of plastic arts including an exclusive group of Latin American plastic artists. The Bonao Culture Square and the Candido Bido Art Museum are constantly exposing exhibitions of national and international curatorships, as well as other cultural events of the country. Bido’s graphic, three-dimensional and pictorial work seeks the pleasure of people to express a scathing criticism. “Paper dolls and paper flowers” (2001) are an example of that, where we admire the controversial tone of the small dolls on a plate. Next to them, there are shining margaritas made of paper. In other hand, the crowd suggests anonymity, generality, and the dramatic life of a gender in its routine. The drama of the Dominican woman located in the context of a patriarchy environment. A pictorial narration full of sensuality and exoticism that will be accentuated in his prolix trajectory until he died in 2011 by a cardiac arrest, as a result of the health complications he suffered. Indubitable, he was an incredible figure of the plastic arts, which leaved an extraordinary legacy for the new generations of Dominican artists who see in his works an inspiration in methodology, thematic conceptualization, entrepreneurship and philanthropy.

Como legado a su compromiso social funda, la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de la Fuerza Aérea Dominicana en Santo Domingo y crea en la capital el Centro de Artes Cándido Bidó donde ofreció clases de dibujo, pintura y escultura, e inaugura la Galería de Arte Cándido Bidó. En Bonao su pueblo natal y la ciudad que lo vio crecer, constituye junto a un grupo de munícipes la Fundación Bonao para la Cultura.Inc. órgano rector de la Plaza de la Cultura de Bonao, entidad compuesta por un centro de artes donde asisten cientos de personas, entre niños y adultos a formarse en diversas disciplinas de las Bellas Artes. Forma parte de esta iniciativa el Museo Cándido Bidó, entidad que exhibe sus obras, así como de los más connotados Maestros de la plástica nacional, incluyendo una selecta muestra de artistas de la plástica latinoamericana. La Plaza de la Cultura de Bonao y el Museo Cándido Bidó, donde constantemente se presentan importantes exhibiciones de curadurías nacionales e internacionales, así como otros eventos del acontecer cultural de país. La obra gráfica, tridimensional y pictórica de Bidó busca el agrado para poder expresar una crítica mordaz. Ejemplo de ello, “Muñecas de trapo y Flores de papel” (2001), donde admiramos el tono controversial de pequeñas muñecas que yacen sobre un plato. A su lado, radiantes margaritas de papel. La multitud sugiere anonimato, generalidad, el dramático acontecer de un género en el entorno cotidiano. El drama de la mujer dominicana emplazada en el contexto de una masculinidad machista Una narración pictórica tildada de sensualidad y exotismo que irá acentuando en su trayectoria prolija hasta su fallecimiento en el año 2011, debido a un paro cardíaco, producto de las complicaciones de salud que padecía. Figura indiscutible de las artes plásticas, deja un legado extraordinario para las nuevas generaciones de artistas dominicanos que ven en sus trabajos una inspiración en metodología y conceptualización temática, sumado esto a su alto espíritu de emprendurismo y filantropía.

n siglo con la misma tecnología ha permitido que entre 30 y 40 barcos crucen cada día del Océano Pacífico al mar Caribe, en ambos sentidos, a través de un sistema de esclusas. Por eso el Canal de Panamá es una visita obligada y única. Ver in situ desde la esclusa de Miraflores, la primera o la última, según se mire desde el Pacífico o desde la de Gatún, paso al Caribe, cómo puede moverse un barco tan grande como un edificio por un canal no mucho más ancho que él, ver cómo el agua se nivela y va cruzando es algo irrepetible. Algo más clásico pero también recomendable es el rooftop del Tántalo.

Un lugar muy interesante por su diversidad cultural. Un paseo de media hora te permitirá disfrutar de su ambiente y sus gentes que se hacen en plena calle la manicura o se cortan el pelo. Smithfield Neufchatel Key Lime Cheesecake
Ingredientes: 3 lb de queso crema Smithfield Neufchatel. 12 oz de azúcar. 2 oz de harina. 6 oz jugo de lima. 2 limas para la ralladura. 4 oz de yemas de huevo. 3 gotas de colorante verde para alimentos. 33 oz de vainilla.
Ingredients: 3 lb. Smithfield Neufchcatel Cream Cheese. 12 oz. Sugar. 2 oz. Flour. 6 oz. Key Lime Juice. 2 Limes for zest. 4 oz. Egg Yolks. 14 oz. Eggs. 3 Drops green food color. 33 oz. Vanilla
Instrucciones: Coloque el queso crema Neufchatel en un tazón con el accesorio de paleta y mezcle a baja velocidad durante 60 segundos. Raspe los lados del tazón. Combine el azúcar y el jugo de lima. Agregue la harina al queso neufchatel mezclado y batir durante 30 segundos. Raspe los laterales del bol. Agregue el azúcar y la mezcla de lima y mezcle durante 60 segundos. Raspe los lados del tazón. Fill 5, 10 inch prepared spring form pans. Pre-heat convention oven to 400ºF (204ºC). Place cheesecakes in oven and bake for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 225ºF (105ºC) and bake for 60 minutes. Turn the oven off and open the oven doors slightly to allow the cheesecakes to cool slowly for at least 3 hours. Refrigerate cheesecakes overnight.

na de las técnicas que frenan el envejecimiento es el antiaging, una terapia que consigue prolongar en el tiempo la estabilidad celular de los treinta y cinco años, edad que se considera metabólicamente más plena. ¿QUÉ SE PERSIGUE? Algo muy fácil y al mismo tiempo esencial en el ser humano: retrasar el reloj biológico. La medicina “anti-age” busca mejorar la calidad de vida, retrasar la llegada de la vejez, y mantener por más tiempo la juventud y la belleza tanto interna como externa. La vacuna anti-aging es un revitalizador celular, que se comporta como un nutriente celular brindando a las células dañadas una rápida reposición de nutrientes para recuperar sus funciones y demorar su deterioro. ¿POR QUÉ ES EFECTIVA? Además, resulta ser un magnífico anti estrés, ya que al mejorar el estado anímico, aumenta la energía y la capacidad cognitiva, eliminando con ello, la sensación de agotamiento físico, incrementando la líbido y mejorando la calidad del sueño. Como añadido, los especialistas señalan que fortalece el sistema inmunológico, ayudando al organismo a defenderse de patologías propias de la edad madura como la artritis y los trastornos cardiovasculares. En el caso de los adultos es un mecanismo de adaptación a funciones más complejas que combinan episodios fisiológicos, psicológicos y muy en especial, sociales. Biológicamente, las lágrimas lubrican el ojo y lo protegen de agentes externos pero están directamente asociadas con fuertes estímulos emocionales de carácter negativo como la tristeza o la frustración, pero también de carácter positivo como la alegría o la sorpresa. Por eso, algunos investigadores aseguran que a través del llanto se libera cierta hiperactividad, lo que ayuda a establecer un equilibrio que reduce el estrés puntual. Es cierto que esta valoración no es generalizable porque son muchas las personas en las que empeora su estado emocional después de llorar. Sea como fuere, estudios recientes han revelado que las lágrimas son diferentes en función del agente que motiva esa reacción. De este modo, las lágrimas que secretamos cuando pelamos una cebolla son químicamente diferentes de aquellas que generamos como consecuencia de una fuerte tensión emocional. Estas últimas son llamadas lágrimas “emocionales” y están formadas principalmente por agua, lípidos, y otras sustancias. Se diferencian de las otras en que contienen mayor cantidad de hormonas, que habitualmente se asocian con el estrés, es decir, la prolactina, la adrenocorticotropa y la leucina encefalinas. Un planteamiento que lidera el bioquímico de la Universidad de Minnesotta William H. Frey. El especialista sostiene que las personas se sienten mejor después de llorar debido a que las lágrimas derramadas contienen adrenocorticotrópica, una hormona asociada al estrés, y esto, junto a que durante el llanto aumenta la secreción mucosa, podría llevar a la teoría de que el llanto es un mecanismo desarrollado para disponer de esta hormona cuando el nivel de estrés es muy alto. En la primera, se calienta el cuerpo con la secuencia de tadasana o postura de la montaña, una de las posturas más básicas en el yoga, que se debe mantener entre 20 y 30 segundos. Tras este previo, se eligen unas diez secuencias de asanas y vinyasas, es decir distintas posiciones, practicándose tantas veces como lo permita el tiempo y nuestro nivel particular. Esta parte puede llevar entre 20 y 40 minutos. A través de las asanas es posible comprender cómo funciona el cuerpo y cuáles son los estímulos que necesita para equilibrarse y armonizarse, ofreciendo una oportunidad de estiramiento, flexibilidad, comprensión, expansión, movilidad, inmovilidad... Las posturas proporcionan equilibrio entre la energía vital y la mental, generando salud tanto física como psíquica. Las asanas también constituyen una buena medicina preventiva. En la parte estática, que dura de 20 a 40 minutos, hay cuatro asanas que se recomienda practicar todos los días y mantenerlas durante un tiempo considerable. Así, cuando se termina la parte dinámica se realizan las siguientes posiciones. La Paschimottanasana o postura de la pinza, entre cinco y diez minutos. La Sarvangasana o postura de la vela, en la que se prepara para subir a la vela realizando algunas asanas previas, como apanasana o supta padangustasana. Después se sube a la vela y se mantiene el tiempo de entre cinco a diez respiraciones. La Sirsasana o postura sobre la cabeza, se realiza durante cinco a diez minutos para pasar otra vez a sarvangasana manteniéndnola de cinco a diez minutos de nuevo. Después se hace una contrapostura como bhujangasana o postura de la cobra o urdhva dhanurasanao, la rueda. Para terminar con las posturas estáticas, se practica maha mudra, durante seis respiraciones a cada lado. Tras estos ejercicios, se descansa unos minutos en savasana. Una vez terminada la sesión de posturas, se ejecuta al menos de cinco a diez minutos de ejercicios de control de la respiración o Pranayama. Estos ejercicios se pueden reunir en dos grupos: El de

Para mantener este enfoque, cada método se concentra en una cosa diferente. Algunos utilizan la respiración como foco, como la meditación vipassana (atención a la respiración nasal), o la meditación zen (atención a la respiración abdominal). Otros tipos de meditación utilizan la atención en el presente actual, a la información que nos proporcionan los sentidos en un momento concreto. Dentro de este grupo se incluyen todas las meditaciones inspiradas en las técnicas de mindfulness o atención plena. También se puede concentrar la mente en una emoción o sentimiento determinado, como la compasión (meditación metta) o el propio sufrimiento (meditación tonglen). Otro grupo sería el de aquellas meditaciones donde se trata de enfocar la mente a través de visualizaciones, como la meditación de los chakras, que se concentra en visualizar los chakras o puntos energéticos del cuerpo humano, asociándolos a colores, imágenes, y sonidos. En definitiva, sesiones que unen conciencia con el mundo físico, a partir de métodos para el desarrollo interior que purifican el cuerpo y la mente. Un intento por conectar nuestro yo interior con el mundo consciente, para guiar al individuo en la búsqueda de la felicidad, a través del mantenimiento de la salud.

Cuando los ovocitos están listos, la pareja se agarra de las colas prensiles y la hembra introduce los ovocitos en el macho. Los caballitos de mar son de la misma familia que las agujas de mar, y ambos tienen una estrategia reproductiva que la realizan los individuos de sexo masculino. La hembra posee una protrusión equivalente del pene en la parte inferior de su torso y a través de ésta transfiere sus huevos en forma de pera a la bolsa incubadora del macho. Se cree que esta capacidad les permite tener mayor descendencia ya que mientras el macho incuba los huevos, la hembra puede crear nuevos ovocitos que introducirá en el macho prácticamente tras el parto. Las viviendas tienen que estar enfocadas a ser resilientes, a tener la capacidad de resistir y recuperarse lo más pronto posible de estos fenómenos atmosféricos. ¿Cómo? Ahí está la clave. A través de la ingeniería aerodinámica. “Para nosotros, el futuro de la arquitectura tanto en República Dominicana como en toda la franja tropical es la adaptación climática

por medio del diseño y de estrategias que doten al edificio de la capacidad para interactuar con su medio y de responder ante las condiciones”, explica Jaime Rodríguez. En este sentido, la investigación de estos jóvenes ha desarrollado estrategias de diseño performáticas y resilientes, en un prototipo habitacional con capacidad de resistir los efectos de los fenómenos climáticos, en particular, inundaciones y fuertes vientos, y con componentes que recuperan su estado original cuando cesan las cargas o impactos que los hayan deformado. “El edificio debe ser capaz de adaptarse a los fenómenos climáticos del Caribe y dotar al usuario de la resiliencia para volver a su vida normal después del evento climático, evitando así la pérdida de vidas y de pertenencias”, señala Plinio Lora. En 1930, el denominado San Zenón, uno de los huracanes más recordados porque, a pesar de que su categoría fue dos, arrasó con la ciudad de Santo Domingo, dejando un saldo de más de dos mil muertos, quince mil heridos así como barrios y parajes destruidos. Unas cifras ensordecedoras que demuestran las terribles consecuencias que han tenido estos fenómenos atmosféricos en la capital del país. Por eso, el contexto elegido para el desarrollo del proyecto fue la cuenca media del río Ozama en Santo Domingo Este. Se analizaron los datos climáticos, tanto vientos y precipitaciones; también la topografía, el comportamiento del afluente: hidrodinámico e hidrostático, dirección del cauce y áreas inundables y los tipos de inundaciones fluvial y pluvial. De igual manera se analizaron las condiciones de las viviendas de sus zonas vulnerables y se identificaron sistemas estructurales inadecuados, uso de materiales débiles y utilización incorrecta de la geometría y del espacio como elementos principales a superar para optimizar componentes. “Estrategias como el Performance en la Arquitectura hacen que las edificaciones mejoren su habitabilidad desde la etapa de diseño por medio de simulaciones y pruebas para llegar a una solución óptima”, dice Rodríguez. Una vivienda prototipo de 46.5 metros cuadrados con tres fundamentos: habitabilidad doméstica, refugio por medio de mecanismos manuales que reducen la superficie a la mitad para garantizar la seguridad de la vivienda y de los usuarios, y por último, resiliencia: superación del fenómeno y vuelta a la configuración original. La programación y control con relación al medio natural, mediante la alteración de la forma, configuración, volumen o aspecto de la estructura para adaptarse a los efectos de los eventos climáticos han sido la clave de su planteamiento. “La Resiliencia ofrece recursos para satisfacer necesidades básicas que mantienen al usuario salubre y seguro acreditando así su psicología de que podrá superar la situación que enfrenta ante un evento y continuar su modus vivendi”, subraya Lora. Los arquitectos tienen claro que en primer orden, la finalidad de la arquitectura ha consistido siempre en la búsqueda de una solución óptima de diseño para que los seres humanos desarrollen sus actividades de manera segura y eficiente. Un paso más para afirmar que las ciudades inteligentes o Smart cities están cada vez más cerca en el país, no sólo para crear estructuras modernas sino estructuras al servicio de individuo y de su bienestar.

One more step to affirm that smart cities are coming soon to the country, not only to create modern structures but also to create structures at the service of citizens and their welfare.

Su origen se remonta entorno al III a.C, en Roma se conocía como un bizcocho delgado: “bis coctum” en latín, o lo que es lo mismo "dos veces cocido" como alusión a su poca humedad en comparación con la del pan o la de un pastel. Para ablandar estas galletas, los romanos solían mojarlas en vino. Su decoración es bastante posterior, el XIV d.C, cuando en Suiza se tallaban moldes de galletas en madera para imprimir motivos bíblicos sobre ellas. El molde más antiguo de esta variedad, llamada springerle está en el Museo Nacional Suizo de Zúrich. Se trata de un molde redondo y representa el Cordero Pascual. Los elementos artísticos de la elaboración de galletas también se remontan a la Alemania del Medievo, cuando las llamadas “lebkuchen” se hacían en atractivas formas y se decoraban con azúcar. De hecho, la historia de Hansel y Gretel de los Cuentos de los Hermanos Grimm en 1812 inspiró

las tarjetas navideñas alemanas de galletas de jengibre. Actualmente las tradiciones de decorar galletas perduran en muchos lugares. En Escocia la decoración de galletas es un arte que se transmite de generación en generación. En República Dominicana comenzó como una moda, pero se ha arraigado a la cultura popular en celebraciones familiares y como parte de una deliciosa alternativa para mercadear o promocionar cualquier empresa o marca. El glaseado y el fondant, son las elecciones más populares para la decoración de las mismas. Por eso, no son solo simples piezas del tamaño de un bocado, horneadas y cargadas de sabor, sino pequeñas obras de arte que se preparan y decoran con todo lujo de detalles para impresionar a cualquier comensal. Son parte esencial en el montaje de las mesas de postres y el complemento ideal para regalar en una actividad. Para la elaboración de uno de estos exquisitos manjares dulces se requiere harina, mantequilla u otro tipo de grasa, azúcar y en muchos casos, huevos. Para la decoración es imprescindible una buena masa que al hornearse quede con una textura lisa sobre la que podamos realizar cualquier diseño. Los reposteros aseguran que la masa ideal es aquella que resulta de la mezcla adecuada de los ingredientes y sobre todo, del proceso de horneado. Para la decoración, se puede utilizar el glass real, una cobertura dulce que se realiza con azúcar pulverizada, claras de huevo y agua, a la que se puede dar color con colorante vegetal. Para decorar las galletas se usa una manga repostera con boquilla de punta fina para delinear y luego rellenar con esta dulce cobertura. La cantidad de colores y técnicas empleadas puede ser infinita. Otra técnica muy utilizada es la del fondant. Esta pasta de azúcar se extiende y corta utilizando el cortador de la galleta, y se pega con una pequeña capa de sirope de maíz. El tiempo de secado es de aproximadamente 24 horas para luego poder empacarlas. Galletas decoradas que sirven de inspiración para que el repostero, como artista del azúcar, plasme en ellas toda la creatividad posible así como las técnicas más novedosas y vanguardistas. Ingredientes de alta calidad, disciplina y precisión son los secretos de esta receta. La creatividad juega también un papel relevante para lograr vistosidad y versatilidad en la combinación de sabores y colores.

ara millones de personas la billetera empieza a ser algo del pasado. Algunos países se preparan incluso para retirar el dinero en efectivo en cierto tipo de tiendas, como Dinamarca. ¿Por qué? Fácil. La inmensa mayoría de los teléfonos que salen a la venta disfrutan de tecnologías que hacen posible que acercando un celular a una terminal TPV de venta se pueda realizar cualquier transacción. Parte de lo que sería un “posnet” o “lapos” del futuro hiperconectado como lo denominan las grandes compañías Mastercard y Visa, y que ahora en el Mobile World Congress de Barcelona ha adquirido toques más vanguardistas, planteando que también objetos como joyas podrían ser canales válidos de esta nueva estructura comercial, como ha demostrado la compañía FF Group (Folli Follie). Pero vayamos por partes. La tecnología de comunicación inalámbrica NFC, ha hecho que los datos que contienen los celulares de tarjetas de crédito y débito, sirvan para hacer pagos y extraer dinero de cajeros automáticos. Una revolución que no tiene marcha atrás y que nos permitirá en algún momento, dejar en casa las tarjetas y adaptarnos a esta nueva realidad. En el 2017, el ecosistema móvil generó 3.6 billones de dólares y se espera que para el 2022 tenga un crecimiento de 5%, alcanzando los 4.6 billones de dólares, de acuerdo con el estudio Economía Móvil de GSMA. ¿El problema actual? La desconfianza. Para muchos usuarios, realizar pagos con el celular levanta dudas sobre la seguridad efectiva de estos métodos disruptivos. Sin embargo, y es una realidad corroborable, la configuración de nuestros smartphones garantiza un paso más a la hora de pagar, que en ocasiones para pequeños pagos con tarjeta no se realiza. Este avance reside en el sistema Contacless, una tecnología de pagos que usa un chip NFC y que permite pagar con solo acercar la tarjeta a un TPV equipado con este tipo de tecnología. En definitiva, un sistema que combina dos

En el futuro inmediato, el tipo de pagos que aceptarán los bancos dependerán de los acuerdos internacionales que hayan logrado en materia de transacciones 3.0. Por el momento, existen dos sistemas operativos principales para pagar y ambos pertenecen a los dos principales desarrolladores de tecnologías móviles del mundo: Google y Apple. Los dos gigantes de desarrollo tecnológico luchan por tener el control de los pagos móviles en el mundo y cobran unas suculentas tasas a los bancos por prestar este tipo de servicios, aunque afortunadamente, para el usuario no supone un encarecimiento en el pago. Existen además en el contexto otras marcas como Samsung, que tiene extendido un método independiente y propio de pagos. Por esta razón no existe una normalización, habiendo bancos que disponen de uno de los sistemas, varios, o ninguno. Las tecnologías y los servicios móviles generan el 5% del Producto Interno Bruto de América Latina y se espera que en dos años la aportación llegue a crecer 5%. En República Dominicana, uno de los países donde según datos oficiales, más han penetrado los connected devices, es decir, los dispositivos de acceso móvil a Internet, Internet Bankyn y Tepago, han revolucionado el mercado de las telecomunicaciones y facilitado a los clientes de las entidades bancarias nacionales, sus operaciones personales y empresariales. Es más, las prestadoras de telecomunicaciones, no sólo han ofertado y proveído sistemas de comunicaciones, sino que han puesto a disposición del sector importantes herramientas de seguridad para hacer más eficientes las operaciones. Ejemplo de ello, el sistema denominado Tepago, mediante el cual el usuario realiza transferencias y pagos de servicios a través del uso de su móvil, desde cualquier lugar en que se encuentre, sin la necesidad de tener contacto directo con empleados o funcionarios bancarios. Un sistema destinado a las entidades financieras para diversificar los servicios que ofrecen las prestadoras nacionales a los clientes de los bancos comerciales y que se ha convertido en el producto más importante de los que se ofertan en el mercado nacional. La transformación del escenario es indiscutible, el Banco será una avanzada plataforma electrónica, que se podrá accionar a través de un celular u otro dispositivo, para hacer cualquier operación bancaria o pagar algún bien o servicio. Una etapa de metamorfosis, donde la movilidad ha provocado que la teoría del mobile first se convierta en mobile only.
