Cinco años, se celebran Celebrating five years

n este número estamos de celebración, el quinto aniversario de bacana, 5 años sin dejar de crecer, V años en números romanos con V de Victoria. Es cierto que cinco años, pueden ser una eternidad o ser muy pocos, según el prisma con el que se mire. Para nosotras estos años han pasado rápido, muy rápido, pues lo bueno, lo intenso, cuando te quieres dar cuenta ha terminado. Cada número ha sido diferente y si cabe más satisfactorio que el anterior. Cuando echas la vista atrás y te acuerdas de esas anécdotas que tienen todos los principios te das cuenta que realmente bacana nació en el mejor momento, ha crecido junto a Bávaro Punta Cana. En esos comienzos ir a la capital era todo un viaje, era impensable ir y volver en el día en carro, el trayecto podía durar de media cuatro horas y era bastante “riesgoso” pues lo normal era pinchar alguna rueda en el camino. Hoy vas de Punta Cana a Santo Domingo en una hora y media por una autovía impecable, haces tus gestiones y regresas en la tarde. Un

lujo impensable hace cinco años. Para algo tan sencillo como poner combustible había que desplazarse al cruce de Friusa, no había alternativa. Hoy se hace en cualquiera de las bombas que se han inaugurado recientemente en la zona. Un lujo impensable hace cinco años. Fueras turista o residente la oferta para una tarde de “shopping” era bastante limitada, hoy contamos con varias plazas comerciales con marcas de primer nivel. Un lujo impensable hace cinco años. En los cruces pasaba primero el que tenía el carro más potente, hoy están regulados por semáforos. Un lujo impensable hace cinco años. Y así podríamos seguir con discotecas, centros de ocio y entretenimiento y un largo etcétera... bacana ha crecido junto a todos estos avances y ha sido testigo de la gran evolución que ha conocido nuestra zona. Nos llena de orgullo celebrar junto a todos vosotros este quinto aniversario que sin vuestro apoyo no habría sido posible. Gracias a todos los lectores y seguidores de bacana.

It is true that five years can be an eternity or just a few years, it depends from the point of view it’s looked at it. These years have passed quickly, very fast for us because when you want to realize what is good, intense, it is over. Each number has been different and indeed more successful than the last one. When you look back and remember those stories that all first steps have, you realize that bacana really started at the right time, it has grown alongside Bavaro Punta Cana. In those early days it was a journey to go to the capital, it was unthinkable to make a round trip in the same day by car, the trip could last from 30 minutes to four hours and was quite “risky” because people seem particularly prone to flat tires. Today you can travel from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo in an hour and a half by a faultless highway, do your steps and return in the afternoon- an unthinkable luxury just five years ago. It was something as simple as fueling up but you had to move to Friusa crossroads, there was no choice. Today it can be done in any of the fuel pumps that have recently opened in the area- an unthinkable luxury just five years ago. Whether tourist or resident the offer of having a “shopping” afternoon it was quite limited but today we have several shopping malls selling top fashion brands - an unthinkable luxury just five years ago. The most powerful car was the first to overtake intersections which today are regulated by traffic lights- an unthinkable luxury just five years ago. And thus we could add clubs, leisure and entertainment centers and so on... bacana has moved forward alongside these developments and has witnessed the great evolution met by our area. We are very proud to celebrate with all of you this fifth anniversary that would not have been possible without your support. Thanks to all the readers and followers of bacana.

a República Dominicana se fundó como colonia española, pero no sólo estuvo bajo su dominio. Los franceses llegaron a partir de 1605 y dejaron en la isla una gran impronta. Se asentaron en la parte noroccidental de La Española y desde allí consiguieron que España les cediese su colonia de Santo Domingo. Pero vayamos por partes: los colonos españoles consideraban que las actividades de los bucaneros (principalmente colonos franceses) eran de contrabando y por ello los expulsa de los territorios. Ante esta situación, los colonos se trasladan a la Isla de la Tortuga, al norte de La Española, para irse desde allí expandiendo a la zona occidental, conocida como Santo Domingo, y al centro de la isla. Se dedicaban a la piratería y fueron creando diferentes asentamientos como la colonia que fundaron en ‘Trou-Bord’, en la que construyeron un hospital que da nombre a

he Dominican Republic was founded as a colony of Spain, but it was only under its domain until the French arrived in 1605 and left a great stamp on the island. They settled in the northwest part of La Española from where they manage to get the Spanish colony of Santo Domingo. Let’s go step by step: the Spanish colonists believed that buccaneers activities (mainly French colonists) were smuggled and therefore, they were expelled from the territories. Under this circumstances, the settlers move to Tortuga Island, north of La Española, to expand from there to the west area, known as Santo Domingo, and the center of the island. They practiced piracy and created different settlements such as the colony founded on 'TrouBord', where they built a hospital that gives name to the region of 'Hôpital'. The Turtle colony

La población francesa estaba formada en parte por esclavos negros que habían huido de las plantaciones españolas y que encontraron protección en las autoridades francesas. También había un importante número de las denominadas gens de couleur, que englobaban a los libertos y descendientes de negros e indios. En 1685, Luis XIV promulgó el Código Negro, con el que se concedían ciertos derechos humanos a los esclavos y con el que se dieron los primeros pasos para abolir la esclavitud en el Nuevo Mundo. Revolución francesa Mientras esto ocurría en las colonias, en Francia la Revolución Francesa acabó con la monarquía absoluta y proclamó la Declaración de Derechos del Hombre y el Ciudadano. Estas decisiones tuvieron sus consecuencias en Saint-Domingue, donde los colonos blancos temieron perder sus privilegios, mientras que los esclavos vieron la oportunidad de igualar sus derechos y por ello, en una ceremonia vudú celebrada en agosto de 1791 juraron luchar hasta obtener la libertad. Esto dio lugar a una rebelión de esclavos, origen de la Revolución Haitiana, que finalizó con la abolición de la esclavitud en SaintDomingue y la independencia de Haití en 1804. The French population was made up by black slaves who had escaped from Spanish plantations and took refuge under French authorities. There was also a significant number of people called gens de couleur, which consist of freedmen and descendants of black and Indian. In 1685, Louis XIV promulgated the Black Code to give certain human rights to slaves and thus take the first steps to abolish slavery in the New World. French revolution While this was happening in the colonies, the French Revolution put an end to the absolute monarchy in France and proclaimed the Declaration of Rights of Man and of the Citizen. These events had consequences in Saint-Domingue where white colonists feared losing their privileges, while slaves saw the opportunity to achieve equal rights and therefore, they swore to fight for their freedom in a voodoo ceremony held in August 1791. This gives rise to a rebellion of slaves, origin of the Haitian Revolution that ended with the abolition of slavery in Saint-Domingue and the independence of Haiti in 1804. En 1802 y capitaneados por el general Leclerc los franceses se proponen reconquistar la isla. A ellos se unen los generales haitianos Jean Jacques Dessalines (líder negro) y André Rigaud (líder mulato) y consiguen derrotar a ToussaintLouverture, quien mediante engaños es capturado y encerrado en el Fuerte de Joux, donde muere en abril del año siguiente. La esclavitud se restablece en La Española. Dessalines logra vencer y expulsar a las fuerzas francesas en la Batalla de Vertieres, en 1803 y un año después declara la República Independiente de Haití, proclamándose emperador de la misma. Desde este momento, Saint-Domingue pasa a llamarse Haití. En 1806 es asesinado por sus colaboradores Alexandre Pétion y Henri Christophe, quienes se dividen el país.

Leclerc and Dessalines Once slavery was abolished, Napoleon intended to re-establish it sending an army that conquered the island. In 1802 the French captained by General Leclerc intend to reconquer the island. The Haitian General Jean Jacques Dessalines (a black leader) and André Rigaud (mixed race leader) joined them and together managed to defeat Toussaint-Louverture, who is captured, victim of deception, and imprisoned in Fort Joux, where he died in April of the following year. Slavery was restored in La Española. In 1803 Dessalines expelled and defeated the French forces at the Battle of Vertieres and a year later declared the independent Republic of Haiti, proclaiming himself Emperor of it. From this moment, Saint-Domingue renamed Haiti. In 1806 he was assassinated by his colleagues Alexandre Pétion and Henri Christophe, who divided the country.

En noviembre de 1821 tiene lugar la anexión de la parte española de la isla a la República de Haití y un año más tarde comienzan los 22 años de dominio haitiano de toda la isla bajo la dirección de Jean Pierre Boyer, sucesor de Pétion. Tras este dominio, en 1844, la República Dominicana se independiza de Haití. La isla sigue manteniendo lazos con Francia.

afael de los Santos es un publicista de pura cepa. Sus años de trabajo como creativo le llevaron a afinar la forma en que percibe el mundo y encontró en la caricatura el mejor vehículo de expresión, este es el hombre que está detrás de la firma Poteleche. A lo largo de estos 15 años en el mundo de la publicidad, Poteleche ha sido parte de la historia de grandes marcas, destacando su trabajo como creativo para la marca Cerveza Presidente, para la cuál trabajó durante ocho años en Young & Rubicam Damaris. “El apodo viene de un antiguo jefe. En la primera agencia que trabajé llevé un portafolio en forma de cartón de leche, era bastante feo la verdad, pero tenía 19 años y era la primera vez que buscaba trabajo, tenía que llamar la atención de alguna forma y lo conseguí. Con el tiempo mi jefe decía: “llámate al poteleche ese…” y así empezó todo” cuenta Rafael. En el año 2013 se independiza como profesional, y se unió al estudio de diseño Modafoca para formar Turista, su propia agencia de publicidad donde han realizado trabajos para grandes marcas. “Llevábamos más de diez años colaborando y edificando una relación de respeto mutuo por nuestro trabajo; una bonita historia de amor. Ahora que nos desarrollamos de manera independiente, Modafoca en diseño y Poteleche en publicidad, y al haber comenzado a trabajar bien jóvenes, surge la pregunta: ¿Adónde voy ahora? En mi caso, independizarme era el paso natural, pero no me imaginaba haciéndolo solo, es imposible salir a flote de esta forma. En medio de conversaciones surgió la posibilidad de asociarnos. Compartimos muchas opiniones personales y profesionales, como andar por la vida mirando con los ojos de alguien que ve todo por primera vez, emocionándonos con cosas que otros podrían ignorar. De ahí viene el nombre”. Una nueva generación de arte urbano Fueron sus ilustraciones las que han marcado el ritmo de su carrera y le han abierto un espacio entre el público desde 2007; los dibujos que compartía desde hace un par de años en su blog comienzan a generar suficiente atención como para hacer su primera exposición individual titulada La Casa del Garabato y desde el 2009 decide acompañar a algunos amigos a pintar en la calle, para aprender la técnica de la cuál ha sido fanático desde su niñez. “De niño solía imitar las tipografías del graffiti “wild style” en mis cuadernos de primaria. Pero hasta que no tuve veintitantos años largos, no me animé a unirme a los amigos que ya estaban pintando paredes antes que yo, y ahí quedé con la fiebre”, recuerda Poteleche. “Siempre he sido fanático del arte urbano, y desde hace un par de años comenzamos a pedir paredes donde pintar, con la autorización de los propietarios; se

In 2013 he became independent as professional, and joined to Modafoca design study to set up TURISTA, his own advertising agency where some works have been made for big brands. “We have spent more than ten years working on and building a relationship of mutual respect for our work; a beautiful love story. Now as we are independent, Modafoca for design and Poteleche for advertising, and we began to work very young, the question arises: Where am I going now? In my case, the right call was to become independent, but I did not imagine doing it alone, it is impossible to get me back on my feet this way. In the middle of some conversations the possibility of a partnership came up. We share many professional and personal opinions, like walking through life looking through someone else’s eyes who sees everything for the first time, getting excited about things that others might ignore. Hence the name. “

A new generation of urban art It was his illustrations that have set the pace of his career and gave him a place among the public since 2007; the drawings shared in his blog a couple of years ago had enough attention allowing him to make his first solo exhibition entitled La Casa del Garabato and since 2009 he decides along with some friends to paint on the street so as to learn the technique he has been a fan since his childhood. “As a child I used to imitate graffiti typography” wild style “in my notebooks of elementary school. However, it was not until I was twenty-odd years, I decided to join to those friends who were already painting walls before I did, and I couldn’t stop any more,” Poteleche recalls. “I’ve always been a fan of street art, and we started requesting what walls could be painted a couple of years ago, with the permission of the owners; you can ask for permission. Sometimes we go with a group of friends to a province and we ask people through social networks bacana 23

puede hacer pidiendo permiso. A veces vamos con un grupo de amigos a alguna provincia y por medio de las redes sociales le pedimos a la gente un lugar para pintar y aparecen muchos”. Ciertamente, el trazo de este artista es inconfundible, y son muchos los rincones del país donde se pueden observar muros que sirvieron como lienzo de sus creaciones; unos nacieron de la espontaneidad creativa pero muchos han sido ya trabajos realizados por encargo. De hecho, en 2013 Poteleche fue invitado por primera vez a representar a la República Dominicana en un festival internacional de arte urbano: Los Muros Hablan en San Juan, Puerto Rico, aquí comparte con artistas de calibre mundial y realiza su pieza más grande hasta ese momento. Porque en noviembre del año pasado, quienes pasaban por el centro comercial Megacentro en Santo Domingo Este, fueron testigos de una lucha muy parecida a la de David versus Goliat. Sin duda este ha sido el mural más grande pintado por el autor, y la hazaña se celebró con una exposición de la muestra de los principales murales realizados por el creativo Rafael de los Santos, donde más de 30 imágenes recogieron el trabajo del muralista urbano, cuya obra se caracteriza por mezclar varias disciplinas del arte y la creatividad. Esta exposición sirvió para que los visitantes del centro pudieran apreciar las obras realizadas por el artista expuestas en diferentes murales distribuidos en diferentes zonas del país, en los Estados Unidos, así como algunas de las piezas que se exhibieron en el festival internacional de arte urbano de San Juan en Puerto Rico. Santa Bárbara en la zona Colonial es un proyecto muy novedoso en el que también participó. Este vecindario, había perdido el esplendor de sus años mozos y gracias a la iniciativa de Modafoca y el Centro de la Imagen, sus muros recobraron vida con un grupo de artistas urbanos, Poteleche entre ellos. Además del proyecto Muralizando RD, una iniciativa de la organización Yo amo RD que se dedica a promover la identidad dominicana y al rescate de sus valores y el cúmulo de tradiciones, costumbres y expresiones artísticas que definen al país donde participaron más de 19 artistas. Él mismo se define como “un dominicano que no le gusta quedarse con las ideas en la cabeza” y por eso cuando no está pintando murales, dibuja. Sus viñetas se han convertido en el must see de quienes disfrutan del humor con tintes de crítica. Cada día, 116 mil seguidores de sus página de Instagram y otros tantos en Facebook y Twitter esperan a ver con qué caricatura les alegrará el día. “No es para nada fácil hacer reír a la gente. Yo vengo de una familia de gente muy chistosa y siempre nos hemos hecho reír unos a otros, pero según fui creciendo vi que no era algo tan común, y que a mi se me hacía relativamente más fácil que a otras personas, cosa que he utilizado en mi trabajo tanto de publicidad como ilustración”. A todo esto, Poteleche también ejerce de DJ cada cierto tiempo; es un fanático de la música electrónica y le encanta la buena vibra que le imprime a la gente, así que muchas veces hace un espacio en su agenda para poner a la gente a pegar brincos. “Duermo muy poco, mucho menos de lo saludable y duermo demasiado con la computadora, libreta y lápices en la cama. Es bien difícil pero se puede encontrar el tiempo para hacer las cosas que me gustan y aún así también dedicarle tiempo a mi familia y mi novia, aunque reconozco que debo constantemente recordarme a mi mismo que debo haber un balance”. Así es como a punta de esfuerzo, este dominicano ha conseguido mantenerse vigente a través de un trabajo constante en varias disciplinas del arte y la creatividad, convirtiéndose en un referente y en una voz a través de la cuál muchos dominicanos se identifican.

Fundada en el año 1506 por Nicolás de Ovando fue repoblada 27 años después por Juan Bolaños y sesenta familias de las Islas Canarias. En 1606, las devastaciones de Osorio (ordenadas por el rey español Felipe III para acabar con el contrabando) despoblaron la zona, que fue de nuevo habitada el 25 de abril de 1879 constituyéndose como Distrito Marino, para convertirse en provincia en el año 1907. Montecristi fue en el pasado una ciudad próspera de gran importancia en los mercados de exportación de materias primas y de importación de diferentes productos como maquinaria o telas. De hecho la capital, San Fernando de Montecristi, recibió al primer ferrocarril y tuvo el primer teléfono del país. En la actualidad, la actividad económica es escasa y se centra en el sector agropecuario (ganado caprino, ovino y vacuno y cosecha de arroz y plátano). El Morro es una loma con forma de camello echado que ‘vigila’ el puerto de la capital El Morro is a hill which is shaped like a camel lying down and ‘watching’ the port of the capital Mención aparte merecen El Morro, loma con forma de camello echado que ‘vigila’ el puerto y que se eleva a 242 metros sobre el nivel del mar, y la Playa de Montecristi, de arena rojiza, áspera y de fuerte oleaje que la hace aún más atractiva. Muy cerca se encuentran los Cayos Siete Hermanos, pequeños islotes del Parque Nacional de Montecristi, que ofrece un espectacular paisaje de bosque seco subtropical rodeado de manglares. También es curioso visitar las salinas y ver cómo se elabora la sal marina. Los montecristeños siguen utilizando el mismo proceso que usaron los primeros pobladores de la provincia.

asopado de mariscos, langostas, camarones, lisas,… El plato más representativo de la provincia es el compuesto por chivo, que puede ser asado, guisado o al horno (chivo liniero), entre otras variedades. Si hablamos de bebidas destacan la batida de lechosa, el jugo de avena con limón o el ‘mabí de las inglesitas’. Montecristi, toda una provincia por descubrir que aúna historia, tradición y recursos naturales de gran valor.

taliana de nacimiento y dominicana de adopción. Apasionada de su profesión, arquitecta y decoradora, no imagina su vida en otro lugar que no sea RD. “Es impensable, no hay mejor país para vivir”. Con una personalidad arrolladora y las ideas muy claras es sin duda la mejor embajadora del país. Hace muchos años llegó destinada a RD, se enamoró del país, conoció al que hoy es su marido y sin haberlo previsto ha pasado ya casi media vida aquí. De su mano esta firmada la obra del Fishing Lodge en Cap Cana, aunque puntualiza que se unió cuando el proyecto ya estaba ideado, supervisó cada etapa, cada momento, cada piedra hasta que el resultado fue lo que todos podemos apreciar hoy. Puso todas sus energías, no fue fácil, fue intenso pero en todo momento logró sus objetivos. ¿Cuántos años lleva residiendo en RD? ¡35 ó 36 años, ya ni me acuerdo! ¿Qué le trajo al país? Soy arquitecta, en aquellos entonces tenía mi propia empresa en Italia. Me propusieron venir a construir casas de bajo coste en Boca Chica cuando todavía era una aldea maravillosa. Y no lo dudé, me fuí. ¿Aquí formó su familia? Sí aquí conocí a mi marido que es español pero vivía aquí, era Jefe de Compras de Iberostar. Al principio me compré una casa en Guayacane, una aldea de pescadores, entre Boca Chica y Juan Dolio. Allí viví y crié a mis hijos, en la misma playa. Muy a pesar nuestro tuvimos que cambiar de residencia y trasladarnos a la zona Este por motivos de trabajo, en aquellos entonces el trayecto podía durar cuatro horas. ¿Antes de afincarse en RD había vivido en otros países? Sí, he vivido y trabajado en otros países como México, Cuba, Jamaica... pero insisto, RD es el mejor. ¿Porqué cree que es el mejor país para vivir? Por el pueblo, la gente, son tremendamente hospitalarios, a los extranjeros nos acogen muy bien y nos hacen sentir muy a gusto desde el primer momento. “Yo aconsejaría siempre que vinieran a vivir aquí, para mi es el país más seguro que hay. Estoy muy contenta de haber criado aquí a

El down town village es un proyecto muy ambicioso, comenzaremos con la construcción de un casco antiguo y a partir de ahí se irá desarrollando la ciudad. Contaremos con colegio, universidad y hasta un hospital, todos los servicios que necesita una gran ciudad. En los planos tenemos previsto un magnifico parque tipo “Central Park” con un gran lago dónde se podrá disfrutar en familia, pasear, practicar deporte… ¿Cuándo están previstos los inicios de las obras y cuánto durará el desarrollo del proyecto? En principio el mes que viene comenzaremos con las obras. Es un proyecto que no podrá verse finalizado hasta dentro de diez años. ¿Tienen ya definida la estructura del proyecto? El proyecto es enorme, 230,000 m2. Va a ser una ciudad dividida en cuadras, cada una va a tener sus características específicas. El inversionista puede comprar una cuadra entera de desarrollo mixto, no habrá edificios exclusivos de oficinas. ¿Cómo visualiza el resultado? Va a ser una fusión entre Saint-Tropez, Ibiza, Nueva York… con lo mejor de cada una. La ciudad más grande del caribe por el concepto.

n elemento icónico de la cultura pop japonesa se ha convertido desde hace cuatro años en la cita infaltable para los amantes del comic. La feria Mundo Anime 2016 mostró no sólo que en el país existen muchos interesados en el tema, sino que reconocidos artistas han encontrado en esta técnica de historietas una respuesta muy positiva de sus fans. Feria Mundo Anime (FMA), lanzó su primera versión en el 2012, reuniendo expositores relacionados con Anime, Comic, videojuegos, entretenimiento, y cultura pop japonesa. Desde entonces, este proyecto cada año ha superado a cada entrega anterior. Este año la feria se llevó a cabo en el centro comercial Sambil a mediados de junio y contó con dos días de actividades: concursos de cosplay, dibujo, exposiciones, talleres, paneles, charlas, música en vivo, concursos y artistas nacionales e internacionales, además FMA es el primer y único evento, sede de un certamen internacional de cosplay, el “Yamato Cosplay Cup”. Para los que no conocen mucho de este mundo, empezamos explicándoles que cosplay es la versión corta de costume play, que significa juego de disfraces en español. Básicamente, consiste en usar disfraces y accesorios para representar a un personaje específico de algún videojuego, película, manga, cómic o anime. World Anime Fair 2016 showed not only that there are many interested in this subject in the country, but also well-known artists have found a very positive acceptance from fans in this comic technique. In fact, one of the projects that raised more funds in the Dominican platform crowdfounding Jompéame.com was Moro Studio, which raised more than DR $ 700 billion for its comic “Duarte as never before seen” financing. This comic was just released on Feb. 27, the day when the country’s independence is celebrated and is consisted of six stories that will make us to see Duarte in a different way. The comic highlights the heroic, entrepreneur and action feature of our hero of the nation. Each story refers to subjects very little known by the people in general (his inspiration, romances, soldier times...). Based on historical facts sprinkled with a touch of fantasy they seek to extol the patrician figure to be a true model to follow by society and especially young people. In addition to the stories of the hero of the nation, studies have developed other comics like

La feria recibe cada año entre cuatro y cinco mil visitantes amantes no sólo del ambiente y sinergia que se crea en los espacios, sino de los artistas del extranjero que han formado parte del evento como Cesar Franco, cantante de los éxitos de Digimon y Pokemon; Mauren Mendos, intérprete de los temas de los Caballeros del Zodiaco; la cantante y actriz de doblaje Chilena, Jessica Toledo; y los cosplayers internacionales Okageo y Junkers. Este año el evento rindió tributo al conocido anime Naruto, una serie de manga escrita e ilustrada por Masashi Kishimoto que narra la historia de un ninja adolescente hiperactivo llamado Naruto Uzumaki, quien aspira a convertirse en Hokage, con el propósito de ser reconocido como alguien importante dentro de su aldea. Además contó con la presencia de invitados especiales como la cosplayer Reika Arikawa, considerada una de las mejores en su género, así como la norteamericana Yuks General, maestra de las armaduras y llamada también la Princesa Acorazada; - Elisa Feliz, ilustradora dominicana del comic inspirado en la serie de CBS, Charmed y editada por Zenescope Entertainment. Y por supuesto, la voz original en español de Naruto Uzumaki, Isabel Martiñó. Este evento se ha convertido en la oportunidad para que los dominicanos también puedan exponer sus propias creaciones. Estudios como Papaya Comics, Alpha Eve o Draw Mic Studios quienes vienen marcándole el ritmo a las historietas dominicanas con títulos como “Más freak de lo normal” y “Sexto Ojo”. Además, Herlynn Sanchez de Draw Mic Studio y autora de una de las comedias en viñetas más graciosas de República Dominicana, El Gato, publicará el cuarto ejemplar de esta divertida historieta. Los artífices de la Feria Mundo Anime son Iván Cleto y Juan Neder quienes desde el 2011 encontraron en los fans de las series japonesas la excusa ideal para reunirlos en un mismo lugar, poco a poco se fueron integrando otras actividades relacionadas como como del diseño 3D y la animación digital, venta de comics dominicanos, espacios para charlas y actividades, bandas interpretando covers de canciones de anime y videojuegos, proyección de AMV, conciertos y películas anime, concursos de cosplay, manga y karaoke, así como torneos de cartas y videojuegos.

Cuentos a parte, lo cierto es que la primera referencia de esta “fruta del amor” data de 1535, cuando Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo en su Historia Natural y General de las Indias habla de ella como fruta exótica y deliciosa. Pensándolo bien, quizás no fue el amor lo que motivó semejante crimen. Puede ser que el desalmado guerrero tan solo tuviera una terrible indigestión.

Para el tartar: ¼ lb dorado a dados pequeños, ¼ lb camarones picados, 3 cucharadas de mayonesa, 1 cucharadita mostaza de Dijón, 1 cucharada puerro fino picado, gotas de jugo de limón, sal. Para el guacamole: ¼ lb lechoza madura, ¼ lb tomate a dados, ½ lb lechoza verde en dados, ½ cebolla mediana picada, 2 cucharadas de cilantro picado, jugo 1 limón, 1 cucharada de aceite de oliva, sal.

For guacamole: ¼ lb of ripe papaya, ¼ lb of diced tomato, ½ lb of diced green papaya, ½ chopped onion, 2 tablespoons of chopped coriander, 1 lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, salt.

juntamos todos los ingredientes en un bol y mezclamos bien. Para el guacamole: en un pilón juntamos la lechoza madura y los dados de tomate. Hacemos una pasta y escurrimos en un colador para que pierda el agua. La colocamos en un bol y añadimos los demás ingredientes. Mezclamos bien. Para el tartar:

En el plato colocamos una base de guacamole de lechoza y sobre esta el tartar de camarones. Terminamos con hojitas de rúcula.

¼ lb of diced dorado, ¼ lb of chopped shrimp, 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon of chopped fine leek, drops of lemon juice, salt.

For tartar:

put all ingredients together in a bowl and mix

well. For guacamole: put ripe papaya and diced tomatoes together in a basin. Make a paste and drain water using a colander. Place it in a bowl and add the other ingredients. Mix well.

Put a base of papaya guacamole on a dish and the shrimp tartar on this. Finish up with leaves of rucula.

Colocamos en un molde y dejamos enfriar en nevera.

Algunos expertos señalan que cierta cantidad de estrés es necesaria ya que es la respuesta de nuestro organismo para adaptarse al entorno. Además, apuntan que en ocasiones es una llamada de atención para cambiar nuestra forma de vida.

rece prácticamente en todo el país y parece que nació para adornar la cabellera de las doncellas que salían coquetas a las marquesinas de sus casas, para esperar al noble caballero que escogerían como marido. Aun hoy, las presentaciones típicas de los bailes dominicanos no están completas sin los adornos de las cayenas. A esta planta se le conoce también como flor hibiscus y la sencillez de su belleza ha inspirado tanto historias de amor como poesías y canciones: “quisiera ser un pez, para bordar de cayenas tu cintura y hacer siluetas de amor bajo la luna…” dice la primera bachata que popularizó Juan Luis Guerra allá por 1990. A pesar de que muchos creen que es la flor nacional de República Dominicana, (en realidad es la rosa de Bayahibe) la cayena o Sangre de Cristo -así se le llama cuando es de color rojo- no es endémica de la isla. Proviene del Pacífico, específicamente de Asia tropical, y desde su introducción en Europa en el siglo XVIII, se han obtenido muchos híbridos a partir de la misma. La cayena tiene diversidad de colores, tamaños y formas, pero todas son la misma flor. Entre sus colores están el rojo, blanco, rosa, amarillo y también las hay de doble tonalidad. Pero más que por su belleza, la cayena es muy apreciada por las propiedades medicinales que tiene. Muchos laboratorios han logrado sintetizar sus componentes y usan la flor para aliviar espasmos musculares, ingiriéndose en cápsulas de 100 ó 200 miligramos; como champú que combate la caída del cabello; incluso es un somnífero, para lo cual se requiere una dosificación más alta, con cápsulas de hasta mil 500 miligramos. Este efecto también se obtiene con un té casero, al hervir una taza de agua, agregarle dos flores y dejar descansar durante cinco minutos. La ventaja del hibiscus es su resistencia. Florece durante todo el año, casi no padece de depredadores ni enfermedades y no requiere cuidados especiales. Además, retoña y crece rápido, pues en condiciones naturales en apenas un mes se empieza a ser una planta vistosa. Por su aspecto pintoresco es la flor perfecta para adornar jardines y otras áreas de exterior; si no se poda, su crecimiento se aprovecha como cerca viva para delimitar terrenos y cultivos donde donde se adapta muy bien ya que se considera de medio tono, es decir, necesita dosis iguales de sol y sombra. Muchas ventajas, para una flor que es mucho más que un adorno o símbolo de la dominicanidad.

uenta la leyenda que en el siglo XVI vivía en Santo Domingo un cacique de nombre Caramatex que tenía un extraño animal llamado Mato. Este animal, que según la historia se trataba de un manatí, fue encontrado por los indios atrapado entre las redes. Ellos le rescatan y le cuidan y el manatí juega con los niños y forma parte de sus vidas. Cuando el cacique se enteró quedó fascinado y le dio el nombre de Mato, que significa magnífico. Así vivieron hasta que llegaron los extranjeros y los indios tuvieron que huir a la selva. El manatí quedó solo y tuvo miedo por lo que se refugió bajo el agua y solo salía a respirar. Una gran tormenta desbordó la laguna y Mato desapareció. Verdad o no lo que sí es cierto es que en República Dominicana es fácil ver manatíes, una especie en peligro de extinción y protegida desde 1938. Mamífero marino Pero, ¿qué es un manatí? Se trata de un mamífero marino corpulento con una cola plana en forma de espátula y dos aletas flexibles en la parte delantera con tres o cuatro uñas. No tiene cuello ni extremidades posteriores. Es de color gris aunque debido a su piel algo rugosa puede estar cubierto de algas, lo que le da un color verdoso. El periodo de gestación dura entre 12 y 14 meses y cuando nacen las crías surge un vínculo especial con las madres, quienes las amamantan durante los dos primeros años. Las hembras suelen parir cada dos a cinco años y normalmente una sola cría. Para comunicarse utilizan los cinco sentidos y lo hacen a través de silbidos, gorjeos y chillidos, según su estado de ánimo. Cuando más se comunican es en la época de apareamiento y en el cuidado de las crías. Especie protegida El manatí está considerado una especie en peligro de extinción fundamentalmente por la acción del hombre, su gran depredador. A la caza indiscriminada a la que se ha visto sometido, hay que añadir los golpes que estos mamíferos se dan con las embarcaciones y motos acuáticas, la contaminación de las aguas, las redes de pesca entre las que se enredan y ahogan y la pérdida de hábitat debido a la construcción en la costa. Las aguas de bajas temperaturas, otros animales como tiburones y cocodrilos y su lenta tasa reproductiva son otros factores a tener en cuenta. Por todo ello es una especie protegida en el país. Se trata de un ejercicio aeróbico que se practica en grupo y que simula recorridos de ciclistas profesionales (con subidas y bajadas de pendientes, rectas,…) Es un deporte muy completo porque trabaja diferentes músculos del cuerpo, aunque los que ejercita principalmente son los glúteos y las piernas. También incluye ejercicios de brazos y abdominales. El spinning trabaja la fuerza y la resistencia corporal. Las sesiones, que suelen ser de entre 45 minutos y una hora, están dirigidas por un monitor especializado que irá variando la intensidad y la velocidad de pedaleo para conseguir los objetivos fijados. Todo ello acompañado de música alta y con mucho ritmo. Es muy importante comenzar con un calentamiento general del cuerpo para activar la circulación sanguínea y finalizar con ejercicios de estiramiento con los que relajar los músculos. Postura y adaptación Dos aspectos que hay que tener muy en cuenta antes de hacer spinning son la postura corporal y la adaptación de la bicicleta, que hay que ajustar a las dimensiones corporales de cada practicante. Para ello, el sillín ha de estar a la altura del borde superior de la cadera, mientras que el manillar debe estar a la misma altura que el sillín o ligeramente superior. En cuanto a la adecuada postural corporal, la espalda y la nuca deben estar relajadas, las manos y los brazos alineados con el manillar y hay que apoyar los pies con el centro de la planta. o, es una palabra que cuesta mucho introducir en nuestro vocabulario, la sociedad en general le ha otorgado connotaciones bastante negativas. Desde muy pequeños nos enseñaron a obedecer órdenes, nos educaron a base de reglas a seguir, era según la creencia general, la mejor manera de conseguir que fuéramos personas educadas y de provecho. Así que de entrada, la primera clasificación entre los que eran “buenas personas” y los que eran “malas personas” era clara, los que hacían caso sin rechistar a las órdenes y reglas y los que no hacían caso de nada. Por ello, la mayoría de las personas se educaron para ser “buenas personas”, es habitual escuchar en alguna conversación “es tan buena persona, no se queja de nada, todo le parece bien, da gusto con él o ella…”. Te propongo que en este momento hagas el ejercicio de cerrar los ojos y pensar en una o varias personas que conozcas y creas que están dentro de este grupo de “buenas personas”, ¿ya has pensado en una, dos, muchas más?, escribe en un papel una lista con el nombre de estas personas. Bien, seguimos… Tener una conversación profunda con este tipo de personas suele dejar al descubierto sus propias necesidades sin cubrir y el miedo a decir lo que piensan por no molestar a los demás, en ese caso podrían entrar en la categoría de “malas personas” y tendrían que dejar de ser lo que siempre han sido y para lo que les educaron. Vivir sin cubrir nuestras propias necesidades a largo plazo crea frustraciones e incluso enfermedades, entender que la primera persona con la que debemos tener una relación sana es con nosotros mismos es el primer paso para emprender un camino hacia una relación sana con los demás. Cambiar la creencia de que dejaremos de ser “buenas personas” si comenzamos a establecer límites basados en nuestras propias necesidades internas y poder decir “NO” sin temer las reacciones de nuestro entorno, es el segundo paso hacia la honestidad con nosotros mismos.

Cambiar la creencia de que dejaremos de ser “buenas personas” si comenzamos a establecer límites basados en nuestras propias necesidades internas y poder decir “NO” Change the belief that we will stop being “good people” if we set limits based on our own internal needs and say “NO” Solo siendo francos con nosotros mismos y con nuestras necesidades podremos serlo con los demás, si creamos los mecanismos necesarios en nuestro interior para entender y considerar lo que nos pasa y como nos sentimos, seremos capaces de entender y aceptar de manera tranquila las necesidades y sentimientos de los demás, entenderemos sus límites de la misma manera que entenderemos sin sentirnos mal los propios. Las “buenas personas” no son las que dicen a todo que sí, a las que todo les parece bien, las que esperan que otros averigüen sus necesidades y les escuchen cuando ni ellos mismos se paran a escucharse, es un concepto erróneo que ha llevado a muchas personas a sentirse infelices en sus vidas buscando la aceptación de los demás a costa de sus propias necesidades y anhelos, las “buenas personas” son personas honestas con ellas mismas y con los demás, establecen límites en sus vidas, cuidan de sí mismas a la vez que cuidan de los demás, se sienten seguras de sí mismas y son capaces tranquilamente de aceptar y dar un NO por respuesta. Revisa tu lista inicial de “buenas personas”, ¿cambiarían ahora los nombres de esa lista? ¿te encuentras entre alguna de ellas?

A pesar de que muchos ambientalistas han destacado que para mejorar la crisis energética República Dominicana debería apostar por la energía solar, su alto costo sigue siendo una de las principales trabas para la adquisición en hogares y comercios dominicanos. La instalación de paneles solares en el país ronda entre los RD$500 mil y RD$2 millones de pesos, solo para residencias.

¿Qué hay que tener en cuenta para instalar paneles solares? Lo primero son las formas de los tejados. Los expertos recomiendan los techos planos; aunque en sitios muy poblados como el Distrito Nacional, la proliferación de construcciones altas genera más sombras e impide que los paneles puedan captar la energía. El único inconveniente que presentan los paneles solares son los días nublados y de lluvia ya que los paneles cargan escasamente. En estas situaciones hay que recurrir a la electricidad convencional. En el caso de no disponer de cableado eléctrico el sistema funcionará hasta que se agote la carga. ¿Cómo funciona el sistema? Una vez contactada la empresa que instala los paneles, un representante deberá hacer una visita a la casa para determinar el consumo mensual de electricidad y los paneles que deberá instalar, esto no significa que el ciudadano se desconecta de la compañía de electricidad. Ahora con el Sistema de Medición Neta, la energía que el usuario genera durante el día y la que va a usar de noche, en lugar de almacenarla en baterías, la guarda en la compañía eléctrica, es decir, a través de un contador bidireccional, que instala la misma empresa eléctrica. Según la CNE, a la fecha en el país existen alrededor de 387 contadores bidireccionales instalados. Significa que el usuario generará la energía y ese medidor que instaló la compañía eléctrica indicará la cantidad generada. Si el panel genera lo que consume la casa, el usuario no tendrá que pagar a la compañía; si genera menos de lo que consume, deberá pagar la diferencia; en cambio, si los paneles producen más de lo que consume, la empresa distribuidora devuelve en energía al usuario la cantidad producida, es decir, no se pierde. De esta manera el usuario logra un ahorro sustancial de dinero y a medio plazo puede recuperar la inversión.

What do we have to consider for the installation of solar panels? The first thing is the roofs shape. Experts recommend flat roofs; although highly populated areas like the National District, the increase of high buildings casts more shadows and prevents panels to absorb energy. The only drawback in the use of solar panels is cloudy and rainy days as the panels are poorly charged. In these cases conventional electricity has to be used. However if user doesn't have the electrical wiring, the system will operate until the charge runs out. How does the system work? Once the company in charge of panel installation is contacted, a representative will make a home visit to determine the monthly energy consumption and type of panels to be installed. This does not mean that the person is no longer a client of the electricity company. By using Net Metering System now, the energy generated by the user during the day and the one to be used at night, instead of storing it in batteries, it goes to electricity company storage, i.e. via a bidirectional meter installed by the same company. According to the CNE, the country has around 387 bidirectional meters installed today. It means that users will produce energy and that meter installed by the electricity company will indicate the amount of energy generated. If the panel generates what is consumed at home, the user won't need to pay to the company; if generated energy is less than final consumption, user must pay the difference; however, if it were the other way around, the distribution company returns the user the quantity of energy produced, i.e., it is used. In this way the user saves substantial amount of money and gets a medium-term recovery of the investment.

s an resounding success has been qualified the most recent version of Flavors of the World, dedicated in this occasion to cuisine of Miami’s gastronomy which was represented by well-known chefs Jeremy Ford, Bradley Kilgore and José Mendin. The event was held at Pubelly Sushi restaurant from July 15 to 17, in La Marina and Minitas de Casa de Campo Beach, respectively. Each edition has more people interested in knowing the world of cooking and the lovers of good eating are attracted by the celebration of the events of Flavors of the World, which take place in different restaurants of Country House and are dedicated to a different country in each occasion. This time, the dynamics of the event consisted in a dinner on Friday night 15th, in Pubbelly Sushi restaurant, Marina of Country House, for about a hundred guests, where a variety of dishes of each chef was served showing an interesting combination of styles, techniques and Asian and Latin flavors to share in a familiar atmosphere. On Saturday 16th, there had a beach party at Minitas Beach, accompanied by Street Food prepared by the invited chefs and Anthony Masses, executive chef of Country House. Meanwhile, to end the weekend, a very special brunch was offered in Pubbelly, and part of it was enjoyed in the well-known Pubbelly Miami restaurant of.

Flavors of the World El Flavors of the World consiste en una serie de eventos gastronómicos mensuales, dedicados a un país diferente en cada ocasión, al final del año se culmina con un gran festival. Casa de Campo está pasando por un proceso de transformación, donde su directiva está innovando en cada una de las áreas que componen este prestigioso destino, con la idea de acomodarse a los nuevos tiempos y competir con el mercado internacional. En el aspecto gastronómico, Flavors of the World cumple con el objetivo de posicionar al resort como un destino gastronómico a nivel nacional e internacional. La iniciativa gastronómica continuará del 19 al 21 de agosto con Flavors of the World Italy con la chef Alba Esteve Ruiz del aclamado restaurante Marzapane Roma.

Country House is going through a transformation process where its board of directors is making innovations in each area of this prestigious destination in order to adapt it to new times and to compete with the international market. In the gastronomic field, Flavors of the World fulfills the requirements for positioning the resort as a culinary destination of national and international level. Cada edición, son más las personas interesadas en conocer la gastronomía mundial y los amantes del buen comer que son atraídos por la celebración de los eventos de Flavors of the World, los cuales se realizan en diferentes restaurantes de Casa de Campo y estan dedicados a un país distinto en cada ocasión. Esta vez, la dinámica del evento consistió en una cena la noche del viernes 15, en el restaurante Pubbelly Sushi, en la Marina de Casa de Campo, para unos cien comensales, donde sirvieron una variedad de platos de la mano de cada chef con una interesante combinación de estilos, técnicas y sabores asiáticos y latinos en un estilo familiar para compartir. También, se realizó un beach party el sábado 16, en Playa Minitas, acompañado de Street Food, preparada por los chefs invitados y Anthony Masas, chef ejecutivo de Casa de Campo. Mientras que, para terminar el fin de semana, se realizó un brunch muy especial en Pubbelly, donde se recreó parte del brunch ofertado en el reconocido restaurante Pubbelly de Miami.

ara celebrar su primer siglo de vida (iniciado en Munich en 1916 como fábrica de hélices y motores de aviación para la incipiente aviación del Kaiser), la Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) se ha cuestionado el reto de la movilidad en el siglo XXI, sus nuevas posibilidades, los avances de las nuevas tecnologías… Y fruto de ello son sus ensayos de vehículos Vision, y en especial el Vision Next 100, resumen de todas las tendencias y desarrollos más relevantes en las próximas décadas, sin renunciar a muchas ideas de innovaciones y diseños del pasado.

Un coche totalmente ecológico.- Todos estos avances se plasman en este Vision Next 100, una mezcla de coupé y sedán de 4,90 m de largo por sólo 1,39 m de altura, con las dimensiones de un BMW de lujo. La ecología está presente en su construcción, en el interior encontramos materiales reciclados y renovables. Los elementos de carbono (visibles y no visibles), como los paneles laterales, están hechos de residuos de la producción normal de fibra de carbono. Con el tiempo, otros materiales se añadirán a la mezcla. Tampoco sabemos que motor monta, ni falta que hace, ya que casi seguro que será eléctrico (o híbrido por lo menos). El exterior del vehículo es de color cobre (un color técnico y cálido) y su acceso es igualmente especial, mediante sensores inteligentes que abren sus puertas en élitros de apertura enfrentada. Para facilitar el acceso del conductor, el volante se funde con el panel de control, y una vez sentado, todos los sistemas se activan apretando el logo BMW situado en el centro del salpicadero; mientras, la puerta se cierra, el volante se mueve hacia delante y la experiencia de conducción empieza. “Geometría viva”.- Este concepto se aplica tanto al resultado final del vehículo como a su proceso de producción, a medida que se sustituyan los actuales métodos de fabricación estándar por los futuros, sobre todo mediante la impresión 4D, que añade a las tres dimensiones una cuarta, la funcional. De momento, el mundo digital está muy ligado a las pantallas; el próximo paso serán las de diodos orgánicos, que podrán cambiar de forma libremente, y más adelante se suprimirán. En lugar de hacer que el conductor vaya más rápido, hace que conduzca mejor. Además, la información intuitiva tiene un impacto más físico e inmediato que una robótica o por instrucciones en pantalla. En el modo Easy la “Geometría Viva” es más discreta, informando sobre la carretera que se recorre y las maniobras de aceleración o frenada necesarias, mientras que en el modo Boost, todo el vehículo se centra en el conductor, ofreciendo una asistencia inteligente. A medida que avanza el viaje, el conductor puede interactuar con el vehículo con un gesto de control. El contacto analógico BMW Head-Up Display del futuro utiliza todo el parabrisas para comunicarse con el conductor. Volante y consola se retraen y los reposacabezas se mueven hacia un lado para crear una atmósfera relajada. Asientos y paneles de puertas se unen para formar una sola unidad, permitiendo a conductor y pasajeros sentarse con un ligero ángulo, para facilitar la comunicación mutua, mientras la pantalla frontal les ofrece contenidos personalizados junto con la información y el entretenimiento que deseen.

In addition, by learning more and more about the driver, the system continuously improves, concentrating on creating at all times the most personal driving experience possible. The transition to Ease mode brings about a complete change of interior ambiance. The steering wheel and center console retract and the headrests move to one side to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The seats and door panels merge to form a single unit, allowing the driver and passengers to sit at a slight angle. This makes it easier for them to face each other and sit in a more relaxed position for easier communications. Meanwhile, the HeadUp Display offers occupants personalized content along with the information and entertainment they desire.
