► MI HIJO DESVÍA LOS OJOS CUANDO LE QUITO LAS GAFAS. ¿SE PUEDE OPERAR?

El tratamiento del estrabismo acomodativo consiste en dar la corrección total de la hipermetropía mediante gafas o lentes de contacto. Es fundamental que el niño lleve sus gafas todo el día para evitar que el estrabismo se descompense. Si con la corrección óptica se neutraliza el total de la desviación, no es necesario proceder a cirugía de estrabismo. A la edad de 21 años, sí puede valorarse la posibilidad de corregir la hipermetropía mediante cirugía refractiva, ya que de esta forma eliminaremos el defecto óptico y a su vez la consecuencia, es decir, la desviación. ■ ment involves total correction of the long-sightedness using glasses or contact lenses. Accommodative strabismus treatOPERATED ON? with optical correction, then strabismus surgery is not required. At the age of 21, we can indeed assess the possibility of correcting the long-sightedness using refractive surgery, which would eliminate the optical error and, in turn, the consequence, i.e., the deviation. ■

Pusimos en marcha este procedimiento y comenzamos a trabajar con la membrana de fibrina en el año 2018, ya que hasta ese momento no se había llevado a la cirugía plástica ocular. La podemos aplicar en cualquier operación de nuestra especialidad: en blefaroplastias, donde eliminamos párpados caídos y bolsas en los ojos, en reconstrucciones de pacientes que han perdido un ojo y les colocamos un implante, en intervenciones del lagrimal en las que necesitamos que la cicatrización sea muy rápida para evitar infecciones… ■ Dra. WHEN DID YOU START TO WORK WITH FIBRIN MEMBRANE AND WHAT PROCEDURES IT IS APPLIED TO?

We launched this procedure and started to work with fibrin membrane in 2018, since until that point it had not be used in oculoplastic surgery. We can apply it to any operation in our specialist area: blepharoplasties, where we fix droopy eyelids or bags under the eyes; in reconstructions for patients who have lost an eye and we put an implant in place; and in tear duct procedures where we need healing to happen quickly to avoid infections... ■
