The Branson Auction

October 21 & 22, 2011 Branson Convention Center Branson, Missouri

Welcome, This year has really been exciting for collector cars and not much else. Politics and our economy have become extremely stupid and the only positive economic upside has been our cars and gold. Personally I’ve never driven a gold brick even though I know a few, most of them elected. Kathy and I got to spend a wonderful week in Monterey for all the madness there and we witnessed a lot of the almost $200,000,000 in sales. Yes, there may be a recession happening and record unemployment but our collector cars continue to hold strong and appreciate, and all of us that play with them are sure glad we do. Hope you’re one of us, and if not, it’s a great time to jump in.

Our Auction Venue The Hilton-Branson Convention Center at the Branson Landing is a stunning 220,000 square-foot facility that not only grants us an elegant new showcase for our seller’s automobiles, but accords our guests, bidders and consignors unparalleled waterfront shopping, dining and entertainment within walking distance at the new “Branson Landing,” overlooking Lake Taneycomo. The new Hilton Hotel at the Convention Center is also our Host Hotel. For Reservations, call 800-445-8667 or book online at bransonauction.com and click on the Hilton Hotel link.

We are very proud of our offering this Fall with a 12 cylinder Pierce Arrow leading the way, several Mopar Hemis and a heartwarming history attached to a real 289 Cobra. As usual we try very hard to offer a great variety of collector cars in an attempt to satisfy the great diversity of our friends and customers. Please join Kathy and myself along with the whole staff of The Branson Auction at one of the most accomodating and comfortable auction venues in the country as we continue to welcome all our old friends back to Branson, Missouri.

Jim &Kathy Cox

Please join us, we want to meet you too.

1936 Pierce Arrow

moDeL 1602 SaLon tWeLVe ConVeRtiBLe CoUPe RoaDSteR

One of three built with this body style and V-12 engine between 1936 and 1938. The three “P”s of American automotive royalty were Pierce, Peerless and Packard. Pierce was successful in the luxury car field, weathered the Depression and survived until 1938. This Pierce has had the advantage of a complete body off restoration. The body was removed and totally restored by Leo Moser of Buffalo, NY (home of Pierce Arrow). The magnificent original blue paint was applied by Manns Restorations to Pebble Beach standards. The engine was rebuilt by Eric Rosenau in CA. All mechanical systems were rebuilt including the starter, Startix switch, generator, distributor, dual carburetors, coils, water pump, fuel pump, fan, thermostat, exhaust system with four new mufflers, the braking system - from the vacuum booster to the shoes and drums. This Pierce runs and drives as good as it looks.

1930 Pierce Arrow Pierce Arrow offered several body styles in 1930 , but the rarest was this Model B Victoria Coupe, which was built only that year. Of the estimated 3,639 Model B cars made, fewer than 140 were Victoria Coupes, and only five are known to have survived, according to the Pierce Arrow Society. This coupe rides on a 139 “ wheelbase and is powered by 125 HP, 366 cu. In. straight eight engine, which is unique to the Model B. Understated elegance best describes this car’s interior. The body has the standard artillery type 18 inch wheels with 12 spokes and steel rim. The heater under the dash on passenger side is an accessory, as is the trunk. Before accessories, this Model B Coupe cost $3,350 new. Pierce Arrow boasted about the car’s white ash frame, pressed steel body, hand fitted doors, hand tailored seat cushions and 55 step nitro-cellulose lacquering of the color finish.

1921 Paige The restoration of this 1921 Paige Six-66 Daytona Speedster has been started but is not complete. The engine and driveline has been redone and installed. The bodywork has been restored, painted and assembled. The steering wheel and gauges are missing and the rear axle while appearing to be complete needs to be reassembled. The body is the standard Paige Daytona with a pullout accessory seat on one side and a tool box on the other. There is a rear mounted spare. Most of the needed mechanical, fuel system and electrical parts appear to be with the car and in good condition if not all uniformly redone. Finished in red with black fenders and dark blue leather upholstery, with black painted, nickel rim drum headlights and a black frame for the folding windshield, the completion of this Paige Daytona Speedster should be straightforward. We have examined the inside of the engine with a borescope and confirmed that it appears to have been rebuilt, but it has not been run. We encourage prospective purchasers to inquire for more details and to inspect it in person. The work that has been done, both mechanical and cosmetic, appears to be competent. This should be a rewarding project that will result in an attractive, powerful, sporting and highly unusual automobile very well suited for open road events and touring. 2

1936 Ford

PHaeton

Phaeton is the term used for a 4-door convertible. This was a family-man’s roadster. Before spending the last fifteen years in a private museum, this vehicle was restored to its current grandeur. It features the smooth-running Ford flathead V-8 and a 3-speed manual transmission. This car was recently shown in Florida and has been driven comfortably on the streets of Branson, Missouri. This will make a wonderful car to take the kids for those Sunday afternoon drives or hit the car-show circuit and gather trophies.

1936 Packard

8

1936 was the last year Packard offered an open car without rollup windows and it was only available as the Phaeton The lines are exquisite from the raked vee grille through the long hood and sweeping skirted front fenders to the low raked windshield, low top and teardrop rear fenders. Packard discretely uses almost no chrome on the body: only thin spears outlining the hood side vents, delicate door handles and the windshield frame. The overall effect is more and more pleasing with time. This is the only known phaeton on the 1402 Eight chassis. It has had an exquisite, accurate, high point restoration. Finished in dark green with a tan coachline, matching leather upholstery and a tan cloth top, the wheels are painted body color with chrome hubcaps and trim rings and wide whitewall Firestone tires. Equipment includes a driver’s side spotlight, luggage rack, jump seats, ride control, jump seats, and a top-pivoted opening windshield. It is a beautiful automobile with an equivalent restoration in tasteful colors. Top up or down this is a stunning Packard that will compliment the finest collection of elegant coachwork automobiles. www.BRanSonaUCtion.com • 800-335-3063

1953 Buick

SKyLaRK ConVeRtiBLe The most distinctive and famous of the ‘53 Buicks was the limited production Skylark. Styling was inspired by a Buick designer planning to customize his own 51 Roadmaster. Buick management in Flint anxious to have a special Golden Anniversary Car (1903-1953) carried out the design and produced 1,690 Skylarks. Based on a Roadmaster convertible chassis, the Skylark has specific fenders, quarter panels and doors enhanced with a unique, flat stainless steel side spear. The windshield height was also reduced 5” making the Skylark less than five feet tall with the top up. The $5,000 Skylark, the most luxuriously standard equipped Buick to this time came with a 322 c.i. V-8, dynaflow transmission, 40 spoke Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, hydro-electronically operated power seat, power windows, power top, power steering and brakes, E-Z eye glass, electronic radio, power antenna, white wall ties, leather interior and a bronze plate in the steering wheel hub for engraving the owners name. Current owner purchased this ‘53 out of storage in Los angles. Final restoration was completed in 2004. The first time the car showed at Buick Club of America meet in Dallas, it received Buick Gold Award.

1947 Buick

RoaDmaSteR ConVeRtiBLe Buick entered the postwar years in better shape than many of its counterparts, having embarked on an ambitious redesign for the short-lived 1942 model year that it continued after the war with detail changes. The Roadmaster, Buick’s range-topping model, had a long 129” wheelbase and power from a 320 cubic overhead valve inline eight of 144 horsepower. This 1947 Buick Roadmaster convertible coupe is a gorgeous example in metallic dark grey with grey leather upholstery with matching grey inserts and a grey cloth top that gives it great eye appeal. It is fully restored in all details and resplendent in wide whitewall Firestone tires, hubcaps and trim rings, grille guard and fender skirts. It has a power top and power windows. The engine is meticulously and correctly presented and detailed while the trunk is fully detailed and correctly equipped with spare wheel and tire, a spare cover and jack. The interior has a radio, heater and power seat. It’s a gorgeous car and will reward a new owner with ample performance, luxury, interior room and the enjoyment of dropping the top on fine days. It is an exceptional restoration in exceptionally attractive and tasteful colors.

1957 Jaguar

XK140 mC DRoPHeaD CoUPe

The XK140 was the second variation of the XK series. It featured a larger engine than the original XK120. The MC designation made it the sporting version with dual-exhaust and other performance and alloy goodies. The example presented here has been in a private collection for the last few years and probably needs nothing more than a thorough re-commissioning before hitting the car-show circuit, or the road to your house.

1964 Cobra CSX 2305

CSX 2305 represents one man’s lifetime of devotion to an original creation from Carroll Shelby. This 289 Cobra was purchased new from Broadway Ford in Kansas City by Dr. Ed Johnson, who, sadly, passed away earlier this year. The car was in his possession it’s entire life making it one of the longest term single ownership Cobras in history. Doc raced the car, autocrossed the car, toured in the car and kept it safely in his garage for over 47 years. CSX 2305 has a wonderful and full history not only as an icon of the Shelby dynasty but also as a legend of Midwest sports car enthusiasts. Included with the sale of the car is a mountain of documentation and memorabilia lovingly collected and preserved over the years. Trophies, badges, records, books, photographs and clippings will all be presented for inspection along with the car at the sale. CSX 2305 is a tribute not only to the man who created it, but to the man who kept it as well. 6

1907 Dolson moDeL F toURinG Fantastically original automobile from a pioneer Michigan manufacturer. 4-Cylinder, 55/60 hp, 125 in. wheelbase. Dolson innovated all-metal body construction on hardwood frames using sheet copper.

1912 Hudson A colorful automobile in and of itself, this 1912 Hudson also has a colorful story. Long considered to have been owned at one point by equally colorful actor W.C. Fields, . It is, documented as belonging to Loews Studios since 1924, later passing to MGM when it acquired Loews. It was acquired from MGM in 1960 and subsequently restored and then toured and enjoyed for many years. More recently the same owner again restored it to its present exceptional condition including installing hardened valve seats compatible with modern unleaded fuels. A small brass plaque on the firewall identifies this as Registered Motor Vehicle 60423 in the State of California in 1914. It is a fresh, sharp, quality restoration throughout, runs perfectly and is ready to show or tour. A flask of “pineapple juice” for refreshment at the end of the day can be added to capitalize on the W.C. Fields story.

1926 Graham PaiGe “SoUnD tRain” No further evidence of the frivolity and carefree nature of the Roaring Twenties need be presented than the Graham-Paige “Sound Train”. Built for Paramount Pictures and its Publix Theatres chain, the Sound Trains were employed in publicity stunts, parades, promotions and apparently occasionally to transport the Paramount star or ingénue to an lavish event or movie premiere. This example is largely original and unrestored and has many of its railroad-themed accessories, lights and features. It runs and drives but is aged, tired and in need of restoration. Needless to say, it will not fail to attract positive attention whether on the show field (where a restored Sound Train was displayed along with exotic concept vehicles from GM, Ford and Chrysler at the 2009 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance) or in any parade, show, tour or affair. The term “attention-getting” hardly begins to describe the appeal of this Graham-Paige Sound Train by H.O. McGee. 8

1930 Ford

ViCtoRia WitH “CoKe-CoLa” tRaiLeR There was nothing flashy about the owner, except for his cars. This Vietnam Veteran, who spoke very little of his service, passed away unexpectedly, leaving this beautiful Ford to one of his daughters. This car has traveled with the Coca-Cola trailer throughout Kansas, where the owner and his wife would park at cruise-ins and car shows. They would picnic with the CocaCola cooler, which came from a service station in Protection, KS. The trailer has plenty of room for pop up chairs, and also contains an attached umbrella holder, and bottle opener making this the perfect car show car. Cosmetically and mechanically, this car is in fantastic condition. The car was converted to a Pinto engine and automatic transmission, making it a great, low maintenance show car. But beware, if you show this beautiful car and trailer around, it may find some of it’s great old friends!

1931 was the last year of Model A Ford production. By this time Ford was creating automobiles for virtually every country on the planet. This particular vehicle was obviously built for sale in Europe or Australia as you can tell by the right-hand drive. The right-hand drive makes it rare and unusual even at Model A events. It has spent the last ten years in a private museum collection and is ready to be drive or shown at the new owner’s option.

1930 Stutz

BLaCKHaWK PHaeton

By 1930 Harry Stutz had proven himself as a manufacturer of fine racing automobiles and luxury automobiles. This wonderful example spent the last few years in a private museum collection.

1931 Chrysler

What a great way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon! This model being the smaller automobile in the Chrysler line-up, it was very sporty with plenty of power while maintaining the quality of fit and finish that was Chrysler’s trademark. Drive it and enjoy it, or park it and adore it.

For the 1956 “T-Birds”, Ford added fresh-air vents on the front fenders, allowing cooler outside air to circulate under the dash and remove some of the excess heat from the engine bay. 1969 Hemi GTX 4 speed all numbers matching California car. The miles shown on the odometer, approx 50,000, are correct. This car is one of 98 4 speed Hemi GTX’s produced in 1969. Factory options include power steering, power brakes, bucket seats, console mounted 4 speed and fender mounted turn signals. In its early days this car’s purpose was purely a race car. 1971 Chevrolet CHEVELLE TRIBUTE CONV. 1971 Chevrolet CHEVELLE SS 454

The Chevelle 454 SS was the king of the hill in General Motors’ muscle-car line-up. Although this car is not an original SS, it does have all the Chevelle goodies, and has been the recipient of the SS dash to make it appear correct.

1971 Oldsmobile 442 W30

It retains all of its original W-30 components with H-heads, OW 400 transmission, 3.73 Positraction rear end and red inner fender wells. Original interior. Seller purchased in 2005 from previous owner who had the car for 19 years and turned over all receipts for work done over the years. Broadcast sheet comes with car. A rare opportunity! 32

THE BRANSON AUCTION • OCTOBER 21 & 22, 2011

Yes, it’s an original 1972 Cutlass Convertible. It did not come from the factory with the W-30 performance goodies that you see on it now, and it did not come from the factory with nearly as good a paint job. What you have in front of you is a true muscle car in every sense of the word so it can be driven without destroying its value.

1971 Plymouth 426 HEMI ROAD RUNNERS Plymouth introduced the Road Runner for 1968 as a stripped-down, low-price alternative to its fancier but weaker-selling GTX. The new model’s performance and $2,896 base price lured 44,599 buyers that year, far exceeding the initial 2,500-unit sales projections. Its standard powerplant was a 383 V-8 that produced 335 bhp For even more punch, the stout 426-cid “Hemi” V-8 was available. Rated at a nominal 425 bhp, its actual output was well over 500 bhp. But the Hemi added roughly 30 percent to a Road Runner’s base price and was barely streetable. Thus, it typically garnered only a few hundred orders a year. A more popular upgrade was the 390-bhp 440 introduced for 1969. There were over 11,070 Hemi powered cars built in an eight year span from 1964 to 1971 and only 3.5% or 393 of them were ‘71 models. This is the first production. It was recently acquired from the Wellborn Musclecar Museum and is one of the finest examples of a Hemi car in existence today! Not only is it rare for being one of 59 Hemi Road Runners built in 1971 but when you take into account all of this cars documentation, its original factory installed numbers matching drivetrain and its always rust-free original sheet metal body it becomes a truly special Hemi car. Very few 1971 Hemi cars still have their original drivetrain, original window sticker, original purchase contract, original Broadcast Sheet, original skid distance sheet, original owner warranty paper and complete documented ownership history back to the original selling dealership! With the pedigree this car has it is truly one of the highest grade investment quality Hemi cars one can own and it only has 49,000 documented miles

One of only 28 built with the 4-speed transmission and one of only two 4-speed ‘71 Hemi Road Runners known to exist with a white interior. Although not numbers matching it does have a correct date coded Hemi engine that has been completely rebuilt by Indy Cylinder Head. The car has an incredible paint job on it that was done by Aloha Restoration. The car has history on it back to the early ‘70’s and the 24,000 miles showing on it is believed to be accurate. www.BRANSONAUCTION.com • 800-335-3063

1973 Jaguar XKE III 2-door Roadster – This vehicle features Jaguar’s infamous V-12 cat power. The Jaguar XKE is the only car that is on permanent display in the National Museum of Art. Its styling heritage makes it recognizable by virtually any car-guy. 1959 Peerless GT The Peerless GT is one of the more intriguing and influential British low volume performance cars in the late Fifties, but its name surprisingly derives from the American Peerless company. Introduced in 1957 as a 2-seat coupe with Triumph running gear both Peerless founders Jimmy Byrnes and Bernie Roger and Triumph management recognized it had more potential as a 2+2. The rectangular tubing semi-space frame chassis was widened and lengthened accordingly and the increased size made room for a deDion rear axle which contributed much to the handling, adhesion and road holding of the Peerless GT. Fitted with a fiberglass body featuring a prominent pair of finned rear fenders flanking a deep fastback rear deck, the Peerless GT used the TR3 front suspension, engine and gearbox. This Peerless GT MKI has been thoroughly and completely restored from the ground up. Finished in red with tan leather upholstery, it is fitted with electric overdrive for high speed cruising and chrome wire wheels. A rare and very pretty car, the Triumph engine has been polished and detailed to show quality standards with polished SU carbs, valve cover, and intake manifold. An electric fan has been fitted.

1979 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL

1986 Mercedes Benz 560 SL

The Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 is a high-performance version of the S Class luxury saloon. It was built on its own assembly line by Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart, Germany and based on the long-wheelbase version of the W116 chassis introduced in 1972. The model was generally referred to in the company’s literature as the “6.9”, to separate it from the regular 450SEL. It was billed as the flagship of the MercedesBenz car line. The 6.9 also has the distinction of being among the first vehicles ever produced with optional electronically controlled anti-lock brakes, first introduced by MercedesBenz and Bosch in 1978.

The story as to why this car has a salvage designation on its title is worth almost as much as the car. The car in front of you is a one-owner, all original car and the mileage is true and correct. The original owner, while going through a divorce, lost the car to his ex. He was so saddened by the loss…. Of the car…. That he literally stole the car back from his ex. She, of course, turned it over to the police and the insurance company and got paid for it. He ended up managing to keep the car, but the ex stuck him with a salvage title due to the insurance claim. The car is wonderful. Take it and drive it anywhere and enjoy it.

1964 Voisin

Gabriel Voisin was one of the great innovative designers of the early decades of the last century. His aircraft were instrumental in the Allies’ victory in the First World War. He turned his attention to automobiles after the war and created some of the most individual, creative automobiles of the classic era. His final design was this diminutive creation. Originally called the Biscooter, crediting its simple, elemental character, manufacture moved to Spain where it continued into the 1960’s under the name Biscooter. Voisin’s Biscooter was powered by a 197cc two-stroke single made by Hispano-Villiers. It drove a single wheel, the right front through a 3-speed gearbox. . This Biscooter comes from an important Micro car Collection. Restored to good driving standards, the exterior is natural aluminum while the interior is red vinyl under a blue folding top.

1953 Bentley R TYPE

1953 Bentley R type sports saloon. Only 500 of these examples were produced and few examples survive today. From the air cleaner muffler to the cast aluminum sump, a rebuild of the engine was completed 500 miles ago and cost for parts alone was over $5000 taking nearly 2 years to complete. Nine Connelly hides were used to refurbish the interior as well as West of England headliner and Wilton wool carpeting. Both the small tool tray as well as the large tools are present. The original owners manual and factory data sheets are included. ALL serial numbers, chassis, engine, transmission, RADIO, and master key are the factory originals and are chronicled in the factory build sheets.

1948 Crosley FIRE TRUCK

Certainly the rarest of all Crosleys. The hook and ladder was constructed and converted from a Crosley pick up by an Ohio firm who marketed the vehicle to Amusement Parks as a Kiddie Ride. 1989 Chevrolet CAMARO IROC-Z

1989 Chevrolet CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE

In 1989 Chevrolet was struggling to maintain a performance-car image while faced with rigorous government restrictions on horse-power and pollutants. The IROC-Z was their answer. The lightweight, snappy performance of the small-block Chevy V-8 engine and the automatic transmission make it a fun car to drive. The IROC-Z was originally created to emulate the International Race of Champions which featured Chevrolet Camaros.

As you can tell, this car has been loved‌. A lot! It has been driven and enjoyed. The seller believes the mileage to be true and correct. New tires, new disc brakes and a lot of TLC has kept the car in the wonderful condition that you see before you.
