COMING FALL 2021 The former Josephite retirement facility is currently being renovated and transformed into a dorm facility.

A NEW CHAPTER By Stephanie McLoughlin We could not be more thrilled to report that on January 16, 2020, Boys’ Latin finalized the purchase of the adjacent 28-acre property from the Society of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart (the Josephites). The acquired property, which increased our campus’s size by 70 percent, will enable Boys’ Latin to launch a residential life program and offer transformative programmatic opportunities for all students, both now and for many years to come. There are several buildings on the property, including a retirement home previously used by the Josephites. This will be converted into a residential living facility in preparation for the launch of our boarding school program in the fall of 2021. The new residential life facility will include expansive common spaces for study and student life, a separate dining area, laundry facilities, faculty apartments, and twenty spacious dorm rooms, each with a private full bathroom. Architects at Hord | Coplan |Macht (HCM) have reimagined the existing space to create a home away from home for the boys. “ We are very excited about the opportunity this new facility and area of campus provides Boys’ Latin as they help young men reach their fullest potential. It continues to be an honor and privilege to partner with BL to help shape the campus and design spaces that support how these young men learn, play, and live,” said PeterWinebrenner, Principal at Hord | Coplan | Macht. The boarding facility is designed to house 40 students who would be spread across the four upper 4

school grades, adding richness to our community while maintaining our small school identity. “ The new boarding program will attract students from around the region and across the country. With our strong alumni network and we are excited to be able to offer the option for former students to send their own sons to Boys’ Latin, whether they live in Maryland or Pennsylvania, or Florida or Texas or California” said Headmaster Chris Post. We are excited to announce our new director of boarding, Michael Williams (pictured below). Michael comes to us with a wealth of boarding experience from Shady Side Academy and, most recently, Millbrook School, and he is thrilled to be joining the Boys’ Latin community. “The opportunity to create and implement an innovative dorm culture at Boys’ Latin is a dream come true for me and my family. We consider ourselves lucky to be part of such a welcoming community where authentic relationships are valued,” said Williams. The new property will provide boundless opportunities for our boys, as we strive to meet the ever-changing needs of our students in an ever-changing world.
