ANNOUNCEMENT
We'll be using the money for an event for Kits for Kids:
Kits for Kids is a present project where members of our Brooklyn Tech Key Club can organize and give education related “school packs” to kids in New York City. We hope to help kids prosper and encourage them to explore career paths through curiosity. Many students in New York City come from low-income households where they are unable to access opportunities or even supplies. It is so important to prioritize education especially at younger ages. Arming students with the means to succeed can only benefit them. Kits for Kids aim to give students those resources with a little holiday spirit!
Key Clubbers members will be engaging in the activity by packaging over 300 school kits, with every Key Clubber putting a personal touch to their package. The packages will include gender neutral themed notebooks, pencils, books, and novelty items. The project will be a long term service event which hopes to boost student relations and education. We will organize donation drives, where students may donate things that helped them when they were younger and serve as mentors to the students throughout the year. We will reach out to teachers and principals to work with local schools in our community. In addition, we hope to expand and work with service organizations like New York State of Mind (NYSOM) which holds monthly holiday events like Halloween Havoc to create fun activities for the students. To emphasize to students the community of Key Club members that support them, we will write encouraging and motivational cards that include personal advice from when we were growing up. Once we finish collecting donations and purchasing all materials using our YOF grant, our dedicated members will work to wrap the packages into festive gift bags. These presents will then be transported to selected locations and given to the little kids.
we got >$1000 from the youth opportunities fund!

WEAR IT PINK DAY
october 21st
On Friday, October 21st, Key Club had our annual pink day! Many of our members and student body participated by wearing any article of pink clothing in support of breast cancer awareness. This event was super fun to participate in because it really brought a sense of community and collective action to our school. It was amazing to see everybody wearing pink throughout the day as I was just walking around the building!
During both of my free periods, I went to the center of the cafeteria in order to help out at the Pink Day table set up by our club. As students walked by the table, they stopped to check out the fun pink props we had in order to take cute pictures. We had pink glasses, pink baseball caps, and a pumpkin wrapped in a pink scarf! If participants were wearing a pink article of clothing, we gave them a delicious treat in the spirit of the upcoming Halloween.
Pink day is easily one of my favorite annual Key Club events. Raising awareness for breast cancer in such a creative way really is an incredible thing!
WEAR IT PINK DAY
october 21st
Wear it Pink day was a great way for me to show support during breast cancer awareness month. It is important for people who are fighting or have fought breast cancer to feel supported and recognized. This month, I learned from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. that “1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.” We should recognize the impacts of this illness that impacts more than 10% of women, and that there are many resources available for us when needed.
On that Friday, I wore a pink hoodie to school and participated in the Key Club event at the cafeteria. It was so fun talking and getting to know more key clubbers, including some of the executive and cabinet board members. I remember the fun heart glasses that we were able to wear when taking pictures, along with the pink Polaroid camera. We took many group photos and selfies with the key clubbers there which are now posted on Instagram. I hope that my peers enjoyed participating in this event like I did as we were able to get together to advocate for breast cancer awareness.
PUMPKIN PATCH
october 22nd
I attended the Pumpkin Patch event on October 22nd, a community event held by Queens Botanical Garden that allowed children and adults to pick out their own pumpkin and enjoy activities and refreshments this autumn. We helped set up the tents and tables and I co-managed the sign in station for the visitors with Jason and Cleon. I ended up talking to a lot of friendly strangers and grew more comfortable with my job. It was really fun to see how many people showed up to the event and the event manager there, Dylan, was very welcoming and funny! Overall I enjoyed this volunteering opportunity and it motivated me to participate in more in the future. -

PUMPKIN PATCH
october 22nd
At the pumpkin patch on the farm event, we (volunteers) were able to get into the Halloween spirit by guiding visitors into the pumpkin farm and ensuring that everything was going to plan. We were able to translate and answer questions for those that needed assistance and even help kids choose out pumpkins. We sold fall themed food, drinks, and merchandise and tried to make the early Halloween experience enjoyable for families that came. I met a lot of our club members (sophomores and juniors) and had a great time chatting about the event and school. Big shout out to Cleon, who I convinced to come with me to the event!
- Jason JiangBOWLING FUNDRAISER
On Sunday, October 23rd, I attended our bowling fundraiser at Bowl 360 in Brooklyn! Before Sunday, I couldn’t even remember the last time I went bowling. The pandemic prevented me from going out with friends and by the time life started returning to normal I had forgotten how much I love the sport! It was so fun being able to just relax with friends and fellow Key Clubbers while knocking down bowling pins. I even got a couple strikes!
I loved how relaxed this fundraiser was. Even though it was only two hours long, I really felt like I made the most of it. Also, the proceeds from the event went straight to an incredible charity called Dress To Learn. Dress to Learn is a non profit dedicated to educating and empowering young women in developing countries. It’s great knowing that even while we were having fun, we were still raising money for a great cause.
I can’t wait to see what the next fundraiser will be. They’re always some of my favorite activities and events that our Key Club holds!
BOWLING FUNDRAISER
october 23rd
The bowling fundraiser on Sunday, October 23rd, was a great way to unwind and spend some time with friends after a long first month of school. For just 15 dollars, we were able to get two hours of unlimited bowling. A great deal! This fundraiser was a fantastic way to catch up with some old friends and make some new ones as well. The venue itself (Bowl 360) was very nice and had just enough lanes to accommodate everyone that showed up. It was also a blast getting to meet all the new members that joined Key Club this year. Of course, with all the fun aside, all the profits were going towards a great cause: Dress to Learn (a nonprofit that equips orphaned girls in developing nations with school uniforms so they can pursue numerous academic oppurtunities).Overall, the event was a great way to unwind and relieve some of the stress of the new school year!
- Derrick LinBOWLING FUNDRAISER
On the 23rd of October, I attend the Bowling Fundraiser at Bowl 360! For the price of $15, I was able to get two hours of unlimited bowling. This was enough to sharpen my bowling skills (like I'm already not a master). My first ever fundraiser back from COVID was in fact a bowling fundraiser and I had a blast from that one. I surely had to attend the sequel, and it was amazing. Surprisingly, this was the first time we held a fundraiser in Brooklyn in a while. At bowling, my friends and I had a little competition going on about who was the best bowler. We had non-stop balls go in the gutter. It was very embarrassing but we played it off. Who knew bowling was this hard? But for the price and the amount of fun I had, I am looking forward to attending future fundraisers! It's a great way to meet new people and have fun!

BROOKLYN TECH OPEN HOUSE
october 27th
On Thursday October 27th, Brooklyn Tech High School hosted its annual open house for prospective middle school students and their families. During this event volunteers helped with a variety of activities such as greeting visitors, monitoring the halls, and presenting for different major classes. Personally, I had the pleasure of helping fundraise by selling snacks in the lobby. It was comical how many parents asked if they could venmo us a dollar for a bag of Doritos. Even more remarkably, someone paid with a two dollar bill! This was definitely one of the highlights of my evening.
It was exciting to get to interact with the interested middle schoolers and also gave me a sense of déjà vu for when I was an eighth grader touring tech for the first time. I also learned a surprising number of fun facts about tech. For instance, did you know that our school’s auditorium is the second biggest venue in NYC! (number one is the Radio City Music Hall) I also found out that the reason tech’s emblem depicts the Manhattan bridge rather than the Brooklyn is because the school’s original warehouse building was located near the Manhattan bridge.
Overall, the open house was a success and it was wonderful to see how many students from Key Club and other volunteering clubs offered their help to make the evening run smoothly and proudly represent tech!

KEY CLUB WEEK
october 31 - november 4
Key Club Week was a excellent little activity for members to showcase Key Club spirit, and earn points while doing so! I partook in the Dare To Share event! It has been a heck of a ride since Freshman year. In my Dare To Share post, I made a collage of past Key Club events I’ve attended: laser tag, ice skating, governor island, etc. Looking back at these photos, I’ve realized that community and I have come such a long way.
I’ve met so many amazing new people around New York. Key Club has really enriched my high school experience. I also loved viewing everyone else collages. I enjoyed seeing everyone ’ s interaction with Key Club, and their own special memories. I appreciate every chance I get to attend these events, meet new people, and give back to my community. I’m looking forward to new and upcoming events! I hope to continue making these lasting memories.
KEY CLUB WEEK
october 31 - november 4
It was recently one of my favorite times of the year: Key Club Week! Key Club Week is an annual event that celebrates all things Key Club. Each day had an extra special event associated with it. These events emphasized what it truly means to be a Key Clubber.
Some of the events included “Show Your K” and “Kudos to The Key Players.” “Show Your K” gave members the opportunity to show off their incredible Key Club merch or their love of our beautiful posters! “Kudos to The Key Players” was a day dedicated to shouting out the people who impact us most. Members made fun videos saying thank you to the special people in their lives.
My favorite event of the week though was “Dare to Share” on Wednesday. Key Club is a big part of who I am and I love sharing my passion for this community with others. That’s why I took such immense joy out of writing a note about why I am proud to be a member of the Tech Key!
Key Club Week is always the perfect time to boost Key Club spirit around the school. I’m so happy that future Key Clubbers will be able to enjoy it again next year!
TREE CARE AND BULB PLANTING
november
5th
On November 5, I attended the Tree Care and Bulb Planting event. I went to the event with two of my friends, Divina and George. Though we were a little late, we made it to the event site and found the organizers of the event. As the project captain for the event I signed everyone in and we got started on planting bulbs. We formed a group along with one other member, who happened to be in my gym class. While we were planting bulbs we came across this community garden which looked more like a whole in the wall. We were invited in by some volunteers at the garden and got to view their diverse selection of plants ranging from tulips to jalapeños.
After visiting the garden. We continued to plant bulbs and created a strategy. Instead of planting them in random places we created rows and tossed some bulbs into each row. After completing that section, we headed down to the river and planted some bulbs the near the river. The view was very pretty and we took some photos. Soon after, we headed back to the meeting location as the event was ending. We gave back our supplies and I took a group photo with all our Key Clubbers at the event :))

NOVEMBER GENERAL MEETING
november 14th
On November 14th, I attended the monthly Key Club general meeting. I always love attending these meetings because it really shows how much us, as key clubbers, have been able to accomplish over the month. This month, we were able to accomplish so much! Some of my favorite things that we announced were the black panther movie fundraiser and flowers for friends and family event. By the time this newsletter comes out, these events have already happened and, like always, it was a complete success. We were able to reach over $500 combined for various charities!
Another thing I really love about the general meeting is seeing a lot of our school’s key club members all at once because it really shows how many people want to help out and do good. From going above and beyond to help reach our service hour and fundraising goals, it is no surprise that brooklyn tech key clubbers are passionate about service and helping out their communities.
- Meihema MishiNOVEMBER GENERAL MEETING
On November 14th I attended and was one of the hosts of the Key Club General Meeting. In the meeting we did a quick recap of events. How much we accomplished, what events we did and what events will come in the future. Being one of the hosts of the event was pretty fun and scary. I was so scared to mess up, but I kept a straight face. I really improved a bit on my public speaking skills from it. It was also nice to see the faces of a bunch of our members and everyone seemed so enthusiastic.
We also presnted our comittees to you that day. The videos were so good and funny!!!!! Pls join events, our committee is the best I swear.
Even though it was a school day and there was a long line at the beginning, our Key club family felt really close. It was really fun to see all those people. I'm so excited for another meeting soon.
Hey Key Clubbers!BLACK PANTHER FUNDRAISER
november 19th
I went to the bowling fundraiser in Brooklyn on October 23. When I arrived, the place was packed and I saw some of our members had already started a game. While I was convincing people to sign up for our raffle, I saw the Stuy Key Club pres, Isabella Chow walk in. I was excited to see her and we started a game a soon after. After making a few failed attempts at getting a strike. I resorted to using the dinosaur bumpers to guide the ball but I someone still missed ALL the pins. I saw my friend from the my AP Physics class and some of his friends use a dinosaur bumper stacking technique which, surprisingly, worked. (Yet somehow my normal attempt did not work ) After another round, I decided to explore upstairs. There was an arcade and an area where you could watch everyone play from above. After staying there for a bit I went back down for my final turn and yes, I did hit some pins that round, without the bumper.
BLACK PANTHER FUNDRAISER
november 19th
With the release of Black Panther earlier this month, I was ecstatic to see the highly anticipated sequel in theaters, so on Saturday, November 19th, I attended our Black Panther Fundraiser in collaboration with Bronx Science. I first helped check our members into the theater and escorted them to their complementary popcorn and drinks. After all the members were ushered into the theater, I settled into my seat to enjoy the movie. Black Panther was filled with intense, action packed scenes and emotional references to the former Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman. This movie definitely had me and the Key Clubbers all around me on the edges of our seats.
Thanks to the attendance of all the amazing members from Bronx Science and Brooklyn Tech Key Club, we raised over $1,300 in profits for Kamp Kiwanis! I had so much fun meeting so many members and seeing our community gather to support an important cause. I look forward to attending more fundraisers, and especially our upcoming holiday-themed fundraisers in December and late November! <3
BLACK PANTHER FUNDRAISER
november 19th
It was finally November 19th! I’ve been excitedly waiting for this day to finally watch Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Many key clubbers from Brooklyn Tech and Bronx Science attended. I convinced many people to come, even a friend from a different school! The lobby was packed and we ended up filling two theaters. I remember helping out with collecting the money and seeing many of my friends as they passed by to pay. Like many of them mentioned, it’s been years since we ’ ve been to a theater so the popcorn, drinks, and movie seats brought back many memories.
I loved the first Black Panther movie so I was worried that this sequel wouldn’t be as good. However, this movie exceeded my expectations as it had many plot twists and funny moments. I appreciated the tribute to Chadwick Boseman, actor of King T’Challa, at the beginning of the movie. The theater was silent in respect for him as they showed a slideshow of scenes from the past with him. I was impressed with how Marvel managed to pull off the switch in main characters in th Black Panther series. Shuri and Okoye’s dynamic throughout the movie was really entertaining and gav the film some lightheartedness despite the heavy eve Overall, I had a great time watching this movie and i was nice to see my friends and other key clubbers enjoying it as well!

The Black Panther movie fundraiser was so fun! It was exciting to see so many people from Brooklyn Tech and Bronx Science coming together to watch a movie. It was pretty chilly outside but once we got checked in and went to our theaters, everything turned comfortable and warm. The movie itself was amazing, even though it made me cry three times and I’m still not satisfied with how it ended, accompanied by popcorn and drinks. The poster board and little signs made for this event were also so so cute, thanks Yijin! Members were also able to sign a poster board with stickers. It was such a cool event and thank you Key Club for making it possible!!

On November 19, 2022, I attended the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever fundraiser at Alpine Cinemas for the wonderful price of only $13. What made the price even more worth it was the free popcorn and soda that came along with the movie. The price isn’t what made this event unforgettable though.
I had already watched Black Panther: Wakanda Forever once before when it first came out. It was one of the best movies Marvel had put out this year and I knew I wanted to watch it again. The second time was even better as I was able to recognize the easter eggs and foreshadowing within the movie, but mainly I got to spend time with new friends, old friends, and meet people I’ve never met before. After the movie, everyone came out with puffy eyes and broken hearts because of how great the movie was (no spoilers). This event with Bronx Science was a hit and if given the chance, most of us would probably want to see another movie together again! I know I definitely would, especially if it’s going to be a Marvel movie.

On November 19th, I was happy to attend the Black Panther fundraiser!! I had a wonderful time watching an amazing movie with some of my closest friends. I also had the pleasure of meeting a few new people, including some executives and cabinet board members.
When I first arrived, I was quickly able to get my complementary pop corn and soda and find my friends in the theater. I normally don’t like Marvel movies but this movie was truly a masterpiece. From the characters, plot, and action everything was memorizing. Watching this movie motivated to get up to date with all of the MCU movies! After the movie, I was able to take a few photos with my friends and everyone as a group. This fundraiser was super enjoyable and I was definitely be attending all future fundraisers planned by our hard working executives. Key Club never fails to give its members a fun time at all events.

On November 19, I attended the Black Panther Fundraiser with my friends, it was a lot of fun. I went to my friend’s house and her father drove us to the fundraiser. We were running a bit late and arrived a minute after when the movie was suppose to start. We signed in, got popcorn, got our drinks, and found a seat. Thankfully the movie started late so we did not miss much.
During the movie it was a bit annoying that everyone kept getting up going to the bathroom. It was small theater so we could hear all the noise. Whenever the door opened we could all hear the vacuum outside. Despite all this, it was still fun. There were a lot of members there and a lot of friends I haven’t hung out with since last school year. The movie was good, especially the soundtrack. The car ride home however was not as fun. We took local routes as there was a lot of traffic. It was a 2 hour car ride home and I have motion sickness. They dropped me off and I went home sick and tired. I hope everyone had fun at the fundraiser and enjoyed the movie!!!
FLOWERS FOR FRIENDS & FAMILIES
november
22nd
On November 22nd, I attended the Flowers for Friends and Family event hosted by the Single Service Committee! To start, Key Club execs went around the room with an assortment of flowers allowing us to choose different flowers to form our bouquet. All the flowers provided were beautiful and easy to combine, ranging from lavender to white roses. I selected five flowers for my bouquet and tried to keep a blue and yellow theme. After receiving brown paper, I tried to wrap my bouquet and unsuccessfully failed to do so. Thankfully, Kristine, one of our single service directors, gave me instructions on how to do so! Aside from flowers and brown paper, we also used cute stickers, ribbons, and twine to decorate our bouquets.
Through this event, I interacted with other members as I worked with those sitting at my table to make our bouquets, asking each other questions about color combinations and providing opinions on decorations. I loved attending the event and hope everyone enjoyed it as well! Be on the look out for the next single service event!

I actually planned this event and I'm super super proud of it. Seeing all the flowers displayed and everyone ' s ' bouquets at the end was so fulfilling. I was talking to a bunch of our members and it made me so happy that everyone enjoyed it and they all had someone in mind to give their beautiful flowers to. We were able to raise over $300 to donate towards cleaning up the ocean and it completely exceeded my expectations. <3

On November 22, the single service committee hosted their first event!! The Flower Sustainability event was such an unique idea and it was expected to go well! And it did! While designing bouquets with everlasting flowers, we managed to support the community by raising money to donate! I saw many members having fun and focused on the process of making the best bouquet against their friends (friendly competition!), and this event was also quite fitting as we could give the flowers to someone you really appreciate, like your bestie! It wouldn’t have been possible with you guys, so thank you and thank you Kristine!!!
FLOWERS FOR FRIENDS & FAMILIES

The event was held two days before the break where we were given the chance to make a bouquet for our love ones. I was very excited considering the fact that I never made one before and wanted to be gifted to my mother. I picked five flowers and a few leaves to make it more realistic! I was very proud of the final product and had an amazing time with my friends who also attended the fundraiser! We had fun taking pictures and talking with one and another! I can’t wait for future events and fundraiser as I will be attending them as well!
