Speak Up and Clean Up

Highlight of the Summer! (August 15th, 2015) Volunteers conducted a neighborhood clean-up event as part of the ongoing “Speak up & Clean-up campaign. The goal was to inform residents and businesses about sanitation rules, remind them to keep the neighborhood clean and encourage them to do their part in maintaining a better community. Five community service hours and free pizza were provided for all participants!

Clean and Green Tree Stewardship

Key Clubbers got down and dirty to help the environment. They mulched and took care of street trees on September 20, 2015. It was a hot and sunny day so many Key Clubbers wore sunscreen and hats!

Fall Rally

The Fall Rally is where Key Club Divisions come to learn about each other and meet Key Clubbers from other Divisions as well. A representative from the Thirst Project, a campaign to provide clean water to developing countries, came to our rally and described the impact that Key Club has made in the world. This took place on October 10, 2015 at the NYU Center for Spiritual Life.

Fall Rally

{Reflection Time!} Fall Rally was truly a surprising event. Like to be honest the only reason I went was because of the food. My friend Sunny was like "Yeoooo, there's this thing called fall rally where we meet people and we get food and these people come in for workshops blah, blah,blah". As soon as he said food, I was like YEAHHHHH. I wasn't expecting much from fall rally because I've never attended an event like it. Being a new member of key club all I didn't know what key club really is. I always thought it was just a club where a bunch of kids go and give donation and charity and gets points for it. Who would've thought that it was so much more. After settling in, I was really shocked at the amount of people that attended the event. Like everyone

was so nice and I didn't know so many teenagers were in key club. The first workshop I went to was called the Thirst Project. I have no idea why I didn't choose the other workshops but I think it was the name that grabbed my attention. The presenter name Evan is such a cool guy and he is such an inspirational person. To dedicate his time to give water to those in

need. You have no idea how interesting the project was. Like a lot of adults assume that teenagers are lazy and are on social media all day long but it's actually because of us teenager that millions of people are being saved. Like water is something we all have in America and something I never gave much thought about. I was always aware if the water crisis but I didn't know how bad it was. When Evan told me about how key club was trying to get clean water for a whole country, I didn't believe him at first. Like it seems so

impossible. But I realized that key club makes the impossible possible and that was a priceless moment. Like I knew that Evans project was gonna work. I liked fall rally a lot. It introduced me to a whole new perspective. As an individual we can make a small change but together we can make a difference. (Oh and I was really sad because the "food" that my friend was talking about was 2Bros pizza and water. Never felt more betrayed by a friend in my life lmaoooo)

Beautifully written by our very own, {Shannon Zheng}

Miscellaneous Stuff

The BTHS freshman club fair was a blast and it was such a success! Over 200 freshies signed up for Key Club and many of them went to the October General Meeting! Screaming “Key Club!” and yelling out our slogan wore out our throats. Cynthia even drank her whole bottle!

What has Key Club been up to?

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one of the most significant public health successes of the 20th century. Now, together, they are eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. In doing so, the project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means the beginning of better health for so many families. To stay up-to-date, sign up for The Eliminate Project's e-mail newsletter and visit www.TheEliminateProject.org for more information.

PROJECT HAPPINESS Key Club International has teamed up with Project Happiness, a nonprofit organization with the mission to inspire and empower people to create greater happiness within themselves and their communities. The resources Project Happiness provides are based on Neuroscience, Positive Psychology and Mindful Awareness. Why does happiness matter? Turn on the news or just listen to people talk. Stress and negativity are everywhere. War, bullying, disease, loneliness, hate and fear are all by-products of those negative feelings. But they don't have to be. Science shows us that the more people expand their own happiness, the kinder they are to themselves and each other.
