Ngā Pou Amorangi is like an armour. I love the whanaungatanga. I love the way we come together and have karakia and waiata. I love being amongst young up and coming Māori and they inspire me! Ngā Pou Amorangi is strengthening my faith, strengthening my understanding which is enabling me to do what we do here at the Marae: to continue to bring wellness to our people, to create God spaces and to continue oranga wairua and to foster leadership.”

A

morangi is the traditional Māori word for leader/priest. The saying refers to the priority of the spiritual in the affairs of everyday life. (Matthew 6:33 reflects this concept: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”)

Carey is a culturally diverse community that aspires to embody Te Tiriti o Waitangi through journeying together faithfully as tāngata whenua and tāngata tiriti. We believe God is calling Christians, both Māori and non‑Māori, to new expressions of church that embody the good news of Jesus Christ in ways that will make Him more fully known. Ngā Pou Amorangi is a Māori leadership initiative designed to equip Christians for this service.

Diploma in Ngā Pou Amorangi Māori Leadership (Non-NZQA accredited) Three years part‑time

Ngā Pou Amorangi integrates biblical, theological, ministry and mission expertise as ahorangi (lecturers), amorangi (ministry practitioners), and akoranga (students), together explore how to express the gospel of Christ effectively within whānau, hapū, iwi, hāhi and in other Māori contexts and beyond. The training comprises of:

Ngā Pou Amorangi must be taken in conjunction with other Carey applied theology qualifications, however prior theological qualifications will be considered.
