Tigers 2nd Half Comeback Against Titans Sparks First Win

Tome Outlasts Perryville Girls, Rally For 6-Point Win

The

and turned a nine-point halftime deficit into a 55-46 win. The Ti-

gers leaned on a game-high 14 points from Tyler Stoudt and a relentless defense to sweep past the Titans for their first win of the season.

Both offenses started slow with neither team getting on the scoreboard until 4:32 in the first quarter.

Tome and Rising Sun were

tied at 13-13 at about the 6:30 mark in the 2nd, when Layton Le’s hot hand gave the Titans the edge. Tome ran out to a 19-13 lead over the next 90 seconds.

Rising Sun struggled to put up points in the first half, scoring just 11 points in each of the first two quar-

ters. The Tigers struggled from the free throw line and had plenty of missed opportunities. Tome kept applying pressure with four different Titans dropping three-pointers in the 2nd quarter and led Rising Sun by nine entering half time.

Perryville Boys Outmatch, Outrun Undermanned Tome 77-26

With only six players suited against the visiting Perryville squad, the Tome Titans faced an uphill battle in their season opener. With a shortage of speed and facing early foul trouble, Tome watched the Panthers build an early lead on the road and never look back.

Marked by a first half with five 3-pointers, Perryville got the running clock started before halftime and went into the break with a 49-14 lead. Head Coach Ron Kidd used the lead to get playing time for his less experienced players.

“It’s really nice (to start off with a win). I got everybody

involved, everybody got some playing time and they played hard,” said Kidd, who also commented on Tome’s effort. “They fought hard the whole game. I know they only had six guys. I know they undermanned, but they fought hard. I wish I could get them at full strength.”

Perryville was led in scoring by their only returning player from last year’s varsity squad with junior Sean Beard netting 18. Jerry Howard, Ben Clark and Nick Howles also registered double digits from the Panthers with 11, 10 and 10 points respectively. Nolan Peel led the Titans with ten.

Tigers 2nd Half Comeback Against Tome Sparks First Win

The Tigers mounted a third quarter comeback, led by senior Pat Rosenberger, who scored eight points in the quarter. Tome’s offense went quiet in the third, scoring just three points as a team. Rising Sun ended the third quarter with a 36-34 lead and all the momentum

heading into the fourth quarter.

Wyatt McDowell took the game over in the fourth for the Tigers. He scored eight of the 19 points for Rising Sun and scored a clutch late-game layup which fired up the student section. Rising Sun’s dominant second half performance proved to be enough to gain the Tigers

their first victory and improve to 1-1 on the season. Sam Booth led the Titans in scoring with 13 points.

After the win, when asked how the Tigers were able to bounce back after the loss to Tri-State early in the week, Rising Sun’s Wyatt Mcdowell said, “We had to really play like we wanted it. We had something to prove

after the loss Tuesday.” Rising Sun hopes to gain their second win of the season Tuesday against Elkton. Following the loss, Tome falls to 0-2 with a chance to gain their first victory of the season on December 12th when they face off against West Nottingham Academy.

CHESAPEAKE CITY, MD - Bohemia Manor High School hosted the 2nd Annual Bayside Battle Archery Tournament this past weekend for archers from across the region. The annual event draws some of the top talent on the east coast including the NY State Achery Champions as well as teams from Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland. The all day event gave the Bohemia Manor students a chance to show their skills as well.

The Bo Manor Middle School Team won 1st place in the Middle School Division and the High School Team placed 2nd in their division. Competitors of all ages competed in the all day event including atleast one fourth grader we saw competing. The skills of these archers is amazing. Coach Michael “Smitty” Smith works with his students all year competing in various tournaments across the country.

At this time the Archery program is only available at Bohemia Manor Middle and High School but this could easily grow bigger in Cecil County with the number of students who are already bow hunters in the Fall. Congratulations to all competitors. This weekend they go to another tournament to compete in the Annual Reindeer Games Tournament. See our photos on page B5.

Tome Outlasts

Perryville Girls, Rally For 6-Point Win

continued from A-1

Tome, we will have them playing a bigger role than they did last year,” said Palmer. “Every year they will get better for us. I am trying to have Landen and Liv to be more scorers to take up the scoring from last year, but it is going to take a lot of supporting cast from us to win games.” Alivia Carrillo added ten for Tome.

Perryville had two players score 14 points in Alyssa Stanley and Cienna Lilly, with each dropping four 3-pointers. As good at the Panthers’ long-range shooting was, it was their night at the free throw line that did them in. With two Titans fouling out, the Panthers had ample opportunities from the charity stripe and only managed a 5-for-14 performance.

Rising Girls Disrupt Tome For Season Opening Win

RISING SUN, MD - The Tome School and Rising Sun girls have formed a bit of a rivalry over the past two years and it was on display Thursday night as the Titans looked to stay undefeated and the Tigers wanted to open the year with a win. Armed with a plan to disrupt Tome’s senior scoring leader, Rising Sun opened an early lead and coasted to a 46-31 win.

“Since this was our first game, we were still kind

of feeling out what works for us. We knew they have some talent, especially with Landen (Cain),” said Tiger Head Coach Kathy Stoudt, “We were trying to contain her, put pressure on her from a defensive standpoint and keep her points limited.”

The plan worked for Rising Sun, as Tome’s Cain netted two baskets in the opening quarter, but dropped only one shot across an extended stretch until a three-pointer at the end of the game. For the Tigers, Allison Stoudt led the scoring with

15. Jordan Lynch added a dozen. That combination gave Rising Sun a 29-15 lead at the half and a 4125 lead at the end of three quarters.

Coach Stoudt felt good about opening the year with a win and thought it gave her squad something to build on. “I thought we had spurts of really strong defense and our passing was good,” said Stoudt.

Alivia Carillo led the Titans with 14 points. Cain’s last-minute bucket pushed her game total to 11.
