Dear Cecil County Parents, My name is Adam Streight, a life-long Republican and fellow parent running to represent District 35B in the Maryland House of Delegates. Like you, my children were born, raised, and educated in Cecil County, and, like many parents, I am quite concerned with the rise in crime and drug abuse made possible by bad policies from Annapolis. Our police are under attack, criminals are no longer held accountable, and legislation has been passed that weaken the ability of our School Resource Officers to protect our schools and children. It’s obvious that we have problems that lawmakers are not paying attention to, and I found that complaining wasn’t getting us anywhere, so I decided to put my name on a ballot and do something about it.
Adam Streight Candidate for Delegate 35B
Through my job experiences - and as the only candidate in this race to both live and work in Cecil County - I am in a unique position to see every day the effects that crime, drugs, and economic change have on our communities and working families. As a safe environment, the nuclear family, quality education, and good paying jobs are proven ways to keep kids off drugs and on the road to becoming happy and productive citizens, I will fight every day for legislation that upholds these values. I will defend the rights of law-abiding gun owners to protect their homes and families, I will fight to lower taxes, and I will demand that we hold criminals accountable. Government’s first priority is the safety of its citizens and Government needs to do better. I’m running for Delegate so that we CAN do better and I’m asking for your vote. With your support, change is coming, and it’s heading STREIGHT FOR CECIL.
Public service is in my blood. I started as a teen in the volunteer fire service and entered law enforcement when I was 22. I’ve served Cecil County for the last 23 years as a Law Enforcement Officer, having worked patrol, criminal and drug investigations, and Sincerely, as a child abuse investigator, where I not only put these abusers behind bars, Adam Streight but I also testified before the Maryland Candidate for Delegate 35B General Assembly many times for public safety bills, including former Senator Nancy Jacob’s bill, Jessica’s Law, which called for mandatory minimum sentences on child predators and was passed.

Rising Sun’s Laynee Eyman makes trip to Washington State for the ECNL National Playoffs
The Elite Clubs National League hosted the 2022 ECNL Girls National Playoffs in Seattle, Washington from June 22-29. Rising Sun’s Laynee Eyman was one of the players from Cecil County competing along with teams from across the country at 60 Acres Park in Redman, WA. College Coaches from across the country attend the event looking for recruits to their college teams. Eyman plays on the Penn Fusion ’05 Team out of the Downingtown and West Chester PA area. The Penn Fusion 05 Girls played well, advancing to the Sweet 16 round before being eliminated from the competition. “I’m very grateful for
the opportunities to go see different places because of Soccer” says Eyman. On this trip to Washington her group had the opportunity to see various parts of the start including the Pacific Coast and a trip to Mt. Rainier National Park. Mt Rainier is one of only a few places in the US providing year-round access to snow. Eyman’s entire season with Penn Fusion led up to this trip. The team plays year round outdoors even throughout the winter months. Her dedication to the sport has already landed her an offer from the University of Delaware. She announced her commitment to U of D last year and will be a
BioMed Major while playing for the Fightin’ Blue Hens. She hopes to one day coach her kids teams as well but that is a good way down the road. Next month Eyman begins her Senior Season with the Rising Sun Tigers Girls Soccer Team and she still has one more season with the Penn Fusion 05 Team to return to the ECNL playoffs before starting college. As a Captain on the Lady Tigers Soccer Team she has been leading the Captain’s Practices this month getting the rest of her team ready for the fall season.

STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne
Local bass fishing club Bass Legends sent three high school teams to the 13th Annual High School Fishing World Finals and National Championships on Pickwick and Wilson Lakes in Florence, AL the week of June 19th to June 25th. The students competed against 416 teams from around the world for millions of dollars in college scholarships and prizes. While the Cecil County teams didn't make the 4th and final day of competition, they fished hard in the sweltering heat. The teams are already planning ahead for next year when they will be going to LaCrosse, WI to compete. Teams consists of two anglers and due to their age they must have a boat captain to operate their boat. The Bass Legends Club is growing but as they get more anglers they also need to recruit Boat Captains who can take the anglers out to fish.

ELKTON FIGHTS BACK INTO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AND WINS IT ALL!
The Elkton Junior Baseball All Stars played the Rising Sun Junior Boys on Wednesday night in what would have been the Championship Game if Rising Sun had won but the Boys from Elkton had other plans. A win for Elkton would mean a second game would need to be played to determine the winner in the double elimination tournament. Elkton has been tough the entire tournament. Their only loss in the tournament came in the opening game where they faced Rising Sun. In that game, ELkton would lose 16-15 when the officials called the game due to darkness after three
hours of play. Still the Elkton Junior All Stars knew they could still make it back to win the Championship by winning out in the “losers bracket”. Elkton faced Havre de Grace and Chesapeake City to get back to the Championship game in a dominant performance against Havre de Grace shutting them out 22-0 before ending Chesapeake City’s All Star season with a 20-12 victory. In Wednesday nights game most of the crowd expected a high scoring game like the first contest but that didn’t happen. Rising Sun jumped out to an early lead putting two runs on the scoreboard

Elkton came back in the second inning and going into the third inning the score was 3-2 Rising Sun. The next 3 innings neither team was able to add to their score holding the score to 3-2 in favor of Rising Sun going into the top of the 6th inning. The Elkton bats would step up big in the sixth inning scoring 5 runs to give Elkton a 7-3 lead and force
Rising Sun into a second game to determine the District 5 Championship. Garrett Slavin was credited with the win for the Elkton All Stars. Slavin surrendered three runs on one hit over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Tucker Rando and James (JJ) Todd entered the game out of the bullpen and helped close out the game in relief. Todd got the save for Elkton. Liam Cooper took the loss for Rising Sun going five and a third innings, allowing six runs on four hits
while striking out five. Rising Sun and Elkton faced off again on Thursday night to see who would advance to the State Tournament. After five innings the scored was tied 5-5 but Elkton bats would come alive and score 11 unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to win the game 16-5 and make Elkton the 2022 District 5 Champions.

Tome Golfer Grabs Title on Lancaster Junior Tour
READING, PA - It is that time of year in the golf world when junior golfers put all the work they have been putting in during the Spring into use in regional tournaments. Cecil County golfer and Tome High School rising junior Karina Serio is part of that group. She followed up an April win on the Philadelphia Junior Tour with a win this week at Reading Country Club on the Lancaster County Junior Tour in the Girls Silver Division. After being in a three-way tie for the lead at the turn, Serio parred the last four holes to pull away for a five-stroke win against seven other girls.
The results of the hard work were evident, as she was the only competitor to par the 15th and 16th holes on the challenging and hilly 99-year-old 5,117-yard course. Reading Country Club is a historic course that once hosted the likes of Sam Snead and the Reading Open. Serio’s 87 was her best tournament score to date by six strokes. “I have put a lot of hours of work into my game, I played a practice round and I made sure I knew the course. I also worked on my mindset and tried to stay out of my head,” said Serio, reflecting on how she handled

It is a formidable field that is lined up for Delaware’s top prize for junior golfers. “My goal is to show up with a clear head and keep making good shots,” said Serio, “I know I’ll have to stay focused to play well, this group is very competitive.”

21 Pork Tenderloin with Peach Glaze
Pork tenderloin is as lean as skinless chicken breast, with only 3 grams of fat and 120 calories per 3-ounce serving. Grill with fresh peaches to add health-boosting fiber, carbs and vitamins A and C. 1 lime 1/2 cup peach preserves 1 (1¼ pounds) pork tenderloin 2 bunches green onions 1 teaspoon olive oil 4 medium peaches, each cut in half and pitted 1. Prepare outdoor grill for cooking over medium heat. From lime, grate 1 teaspoon peel and squeeze 1 tablespoon juice. 2. Make Peach Glaze: In medium bowl, stir preserves, lime peel and juice, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper until blended. Spoon 1/4 cup glaze into small bowl. 3. Cut pork tenderloin crosswise in half, then cut each piece lengthwise in half. Place pork on hot grill rack; cover and cook 5 minutes. Turn pork over; brush with glaze from medium bowl. Cover and cook 5 to 6 minutes longer or until pork is browned on the outside and still slightly pink on the inside, brushing several times with glaze remaining in medium bowl. Transfer pork to cutting board. 4. Meanwhile, toss green onions with oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper. Place green onions and peaches, cut- sides down, on same grill rack; cook 3 minutes, turning green onions over once. Transfer onions to platter. Turn peaches over and brush with glaze from small bowl; cook 3 minutes longer or until browned and tender. Transfer to platter with green onions. 5. Slice pork and serve with peaches and green onions.
