1A REGIONAL SEMIFINALS:
WHITEMAN LEADS NORTH EAST INDIANS
TO THE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS By Kevin Phillips
NORTH EAST–North East head coach Kevin Brown liked how his team practiced in the days leading up to their playoff battle against county rival Rising Sun. Those strong practices paid off quickly for the host Indians as they scored four
runs in the first two innings, and they held off the Tigers to earn a 6-4 victory in the second round of the 2A baseball playoffs Saturday afternoon. “These guys were really inspired. I was really glad with the way they came out,” Brown said. “We had a couple of good practices the last two days, - CONTINUED ON PG 4 -
BOHEMIA MANOR EAGLES TOP WARRIORS 8-5 By Sam Dixon
CHESAPEAKE CITY - A little rain isn’t going to be enough to cancel playoffs for Baseball. This past Saturday the Bohemia Manor Eagles defeated the Havre de Grace Warriors in the Regional Semifinals game. The winner of the contest advances to the Regional Championship game and only hours before did each team learn of Perryville’s loss to Patterson
Mill. That loss means the Eagles could host the Regional Championship game if they shut down the Warriors. Even though Bohemia Manor gave up four runs in the fifth inning, they still defeated Havre de Grace Warriors Varsity 8-5. Havre de Grace players Logan Ward, Bryce Bauer, and Frank Rogers all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. Bohemia Manor got things moving in the first inning.
Gannon Williams struck out the first two batters and then a ground ball to second base would retire the side. Batting third in the lineup, and with two outs, Gannon Williams would get the Eagles on base with a line drive to centerfield. Mason Williams would get walked to first but not before - CONTINUED ON PG 11 -

and I felt like we were ready and on the top of our game from the get go.” After Jacob Whiteman retired Rising Sun in order in the top of the first inning, North East sent eight men to the plate in the bottom half of the frame and scored three runs to take the lead. Ryan James plated a pair with a line drive single to left, which was followed by Austin Keefer scoring on a wild pitch for the third run of the inning, and Ethan Flaugher felt that the first inning was a big part of the Indians’ victory. “It was huge to get that start and get a few runs up on the board,” Flaugher said. “It kind of set the tone of the game.” Flaugher added to North East’s

lead in the bottom of the second inning when he turned on a fastball and deposited it over the left field fence for a solo home run to make it 4-0. Rising Sun got on the board in the top of the fourth inning when Hayden Spioch launched a threerun home run to right field to cut the Indian lead to 4-3, but North East got one of those runs back when Nathan England scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers got back to within one run in the top of the sixth inning when Cam Klotz drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-5, but for the second time in the game, North East responded with a run of its own when Evan England scored on a Nathan England single to make it 6-4.
“It was huge just to put another one on and keep tacking it on them, not letting them have a break,” Flaugher said. “When we get a lead, we’re always trying to add on. With Rising Sun scoring those runs when they did, we try to focus on getting one or two back as far as a bounce back aspect,” Brown added. Whiteman worked around a walk in the top of the seventh to secure the victory and send the Indians to the district title game where they will host Fallston on Tuesday afternoon. Whiteman tossed a complete game for North East, giving up four earned runs on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts to pick up the win.

Mariah Penta carries Eagles on Senior Night
By Sam Dixon CHESAPEAKE CITY – The Bohemia Manor Eagles Softball Team moved their Senior Night to the Little League Fields of Chesapeake City this past week for a special game under the lights to honor their outgoing senior class members Hayden Rash, Anna Wilson, Emily Heath and Mary Grace Valle. Senior Night is a special night for the Seniors. The parents and extended family are usually in attendance so the crowds are larger than your usual home game. It’s a game everyone wants to win for family and
friends.
The Lady Eagles found themselves in trouble early as Havre de Grace took an early 7-0 lead in the second inning, but the Lady Eagles were not going to give up. Junior Mariah Penta came in from shortstop to pitch in relief and after a short conversation with her Catcher Anna Wilson, started the Eagles comeback. Penta would go six scoreless innings effectively shutting down the bats of Havre de Grace. Penta stepped up big at the plate as well going 3-for-4 with 5RBIs and hitting 2 homeruns.
Senior Emily Heath could probably be heard all over the ballpark that night as she cheered on her team with a rally cry of “We are not going to lose on our Senior Night!”. The Bohemia Manor Seniors Baseball game on the next field ended and the crowd grew to watch the comeback as the Lady Eagles went into extra innings. Mariah Penta would then hit a single up the middle to score Hayden Rash from third to end the game 8-7 and give Emily Heath and Bohemia Manor a win on Senior Night.

DOCTOR HITS HOMERUN IN INDIANS 6-5 WIN OVER PERRYVILLE
NORTH EAST - The North East Indians jumped out to an early lead over the Perryville Panthers and took home a 6-5 victory on Monday in the final game of the regular season. North East scored on an error in the first inning, a error in the second inning, a second error in the second inning, and a home run by Alesia Doctor in the second inning. The Lady Indians pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. Senior Alesia Doctor homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. As Alesia rounded second in her excitement you could her say “and it’s my Dad’s Birthday”. Her Father had told her that morning he wanted a hit for his birthday, and she delivered with a 2 run homerun as he sat atop the hill at North East watching. Doctor got the start for North East. She allowed six hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.
Brooklyn Logan started the game for Perryville. Logan allowed five hits and five runs over three innings, walking zero. Kayla Brustman threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. The Indians scattered ten hits in the game. Ally Schaible and Doctor all managed multiple hits for North East. Doctor and Schaible each collected three hits to lead the team. Logan led Perryville with two hits in three at bats. North East was scheduled to play C. Milton Wright in the Regional Quarterfinals on Thursday May 12 but C. Milton Wright forfeited the game. Now the Indians will travel to Harford Tech on Monday to play in the Regional Semifinals. The winner of that game will face Rising Sun/Elkton on Wednesday for the Regional Championship. REGIONAL QUARTERFINALS:
NORTH EAST DEFEATS CAMBRIDGE 19-8 By Kevin Phillips
NORTH EAST–After a sleepy opening 10 minutes, North East found its rhythm midway through the first half with six unanswered goals over four minutes against visiting Cambridge-South Dorchester in the opening round of 1A Girls Lacrosse East Regional Tournament Wednesday. That surge gave the Indians the lead, and their offense continued to pour it on, scoring in a variety of ways en route to a 19-8 victory over the Vikings. “We came out a little flat. I think the humidity today surprised them, and it was a long day of AP testing. It was just a long Wednesday,” North East head coach Joseph Burkhardt said. “We picked it up. We didn’t have to call a timeout. The kids made some adjustments. We had some people come in late to the game from AP testing. We got back on track.”
The Indians and Cambridge-South Dorchester were tied at 2-2 as the game approached the midway mark of the first half when Sophie Scheffler weaved through the Viking defense and pushed a shot into the back of the net to give North East the lead with 14:59 left in the first half. Melanie Seefeldt and Abbey Scheffler scored twice while Brynn Barton added another over the next 4:24 to allow the Indians to build an 8-2 lead with 10:35 left in the first half. North East extended its lead to 12-5 at halftime, and Scheffler says the first half surge was the result of the team playing as a unit on the offensive end, indicated by the team netting nine assists in the game.. “We were really putting things together, passing well., working the cuts, and not being selfish with the ball. We just worked well as a team,” Abbey Scheffler, who scored a game-high six
goals, said. The Indians pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 7-3 in the last 25 minutes, and the victory set up a second round matchup with Perryville. One of the keys for North East in its victory was its ability to score on the transition as well as scoring in their set offense, and Scheffler says the reason for that is the team is patient with the ball. “On the transition, it was just looking up and being able to catch and throw on the run,” Scheffler said. “We settled in when we got to the eight and did not force things.” In addition to Abbey Scheffler’s six goals, the Indians got multi-goal games from Seefeldt, Cailyn Hawley and Sophie Scheffler with three, three and two goals respectively.
