BAYSIDE BATTLE HITS BULLS EYE FOR BOHEMIA MANOR
On Saturday December 11th Archery teams from Maryland and Virginia met at the Bohemia Manor School in Chesapeake City for the first Archery Tournament ever held in Cecil County. Eleven teams ranging from Elementary, Middle,
and High School sent 171 Archers to compete in a ten and fifteen meter bullseye Target Competition. Awards were given out for top individual Archers as well as top team scores. A total of 54 medals were awarded to the top 3 finishers in each
grade, 4th-12th. Six trophies were awarded to top team scorers. To be considered a team there must be at least twelve Archers on the tournament roster. The Bohemia Manor School is part of NASP or National Archery in the School Program. They
have been members for three years and have built quite a program. Currently they have over 40 Archers in both Middle and High School divisions. In addition to Bullseye Competitions they also compete in 3-D Tournaments with animal targets. The sea-
son lasts all year long with opportunities to compete nationwide. The ultimate goal for Bohemia Manor is to compete at Nationals in Salt Lake City, Utah.

GARVIN UNSTOPPABLE AT HUSKY DUALS
Rising Sun Sophomore Tyler Garvin tore threw the competition this past weekend at the Patterson Mill High School Husky Duals. The 2-day Wrestling Tournament consisted of 16 schools from across the State. Tyler wrestled a to-
tal of nine opponents this weekend. For three of those matchups he went up a weight class to 113lbs. instead of taking a forfeit at his usual 106lb spot. Even at the higher weight class Garvin dominated on the mat pinning his first six opponents in under 60 seconds. The North East Indians were the only Cecil team the Tigers faced this weekend. Wrestling against Mason Boyd in the 113 weight class Garvin pinned Boyd in 57 seconds. On Dec 15 Rising Sun will travel to Elkton to wrestle against Perryville and Elkton. You’ll want to make sure you are paying attention and don’t blink or you might miss it.

TITANS BEST INDIANS 39-34 IN NORTH EAST HOME OPENER
By Karina Serio
Powered by a late fourth quarter run, the Tome School opened their season on the road at North East with a 39-34 win in girls basketball. The Lady Indians didn’t look like a team that hadn’t hit the hardwood for two years, jumping out to an early 9-0. Tome coach Jermaine Palmer called a timeout to regroup the Lady Titans.“Well we had to get rid of the jitters. Everyone’s

mentally ready for that first game, but once you get to the second half you calm down, you start to play. That’s what they did, they went out and executed,” said Coach Palmer. The Lady Titans closed to within a basket by halftime and the two squads, separated by less than a mile on Irishtown Road, remained no more than two baskets apart through much of the second half. Tome tied the score at 31-31 with four

We now know we can win and we have a champion mindset and we’ll continue to strive to win the rest of the games,” said Peel after the win. North East Coach Matt Haack found room for optimism for the rest of the season in his squad’s performance. “We did a lot of things

The Lady Titans then outpaced the Lady Indians 8-1 over the next minute of playing, sealing the victory. Cain led all scorers with 17 points. Senior Emmersen Peel added 13 points, including going 4 for 4 from the free throw line for the Lady Titans. Junior Saylor Bare led the Lady Indians with 12 points. Sophomore

well, but we haven’t touched the basketball in almost two years. It took a little longer to knock off some rust, to be honest,” said Haack. He added, “I’m really proud of their intensity. We came out with high intensity. We were very aggressive on defense and we had a couple of really nice big runs on Tome. We didn’t let up for the whole game. That intensity out there from the girls made me really proud.”

TRI-STATE CRUSADERS OFF TO 4-1 START AS SEASON PICKS UP PHOTOS BY SAM DIXON
By Margaret McGlothlin
The early season matchup between the Bohemia Manor Eagles and the Tri-State Crusaders resulted in a tough loss for the Eagles, 60-32. The Crusaders had already played a previous game against Christiana High School before meeting the Eagles on Monday night, which resulted in a win for
TSCA. However, this was Bohemia Manor’s first regular season game. Tri-State was led offensively by Sophomore Jerimiah Falko who put 22 points on the board for the Crusaders, and Junior Kyle Rogers with 12 points on the game. This young team showed their potential for the season with a group of boys who are all underclassmen.
The Bohemia Manor Eagles were primarily led by a group of seniors Gannon Williams, Dennis Kemether, and Jonas Scott, along with junior Jake Vaughan. Williams put up a total of 7 points including 11 rebounds, and Scott dominated the offense for the Eagles pulling together 12 points for his team. Vaughn was quick in defense and added 6
points. Kemether also added 4 points along with pressure on Tri-State’s players. By the end of the first quarter the score was 12-12, proving the defensive battle from both teams. However, early on in the second quarter The Tri-State Crusaders proved their dominance and kept the lead despite the defensive efforts from the Eagles. The Crusaders were being pressured defensively by The Eagles in the first quarter and quickly adjusted and put on a show to finish out their second game of the season. Their offense be-
came quicker and was able to move around the Eagles and put points on the board. Coach Grimes of Bohemia Manor High School commented, “Our plan was to keep playing solid defense and execute offensively. Unfortunately we gave up too many uncontested three pointers and had trouble scoring the basketball. Much to improve on, which we will do.” Despite the loss The Eagles had, keep a lookout for these boys to come back strong and The Crusaders to power through their season.

LADY TITANS ROLL PAST PANTHERS 59-28 PHOTOS BY KARINA SERIO
By Karina Serio
Building on their successful season opening win, the Tome Lady Titans came into their Friday night matchup with Perryville intent on continuing their momentum. Coach Jermaine Palmer's squad ran off eight unanswered points to start the game and never looked back while defeating the Lady Panthers 59-28. "The girls had a long practice last night and were able to use that in today's game," said Coach Palmer. Emmerson Peel led all scores with 24 points, Junior Campbell Walker added 16. The win moved Tome to 2-0 in the season.
“We started the game strong from the get go, we executed exactly what coach wanted us to from the tip off, we did well transitioning the ball up the court, we also did well driving to the basket then kicking it back out for an open shot,” said Tome Junior Landen Cain, who added 14 points on the night and is averaging 17.5 points per game thus far. “I think I did a good job with steals on defense and after getting the steal looking up the court to my teammates for easy layups.” For Perryville, Sophomore Cienna Lilly did the bulk of the scoring with 18 points.

PLAY BALL! BASKETBALL RETURNS TO PERRYVILLE
By Karina Serio
The stands were packed for Perryville’s first home game in close to two years thanks to COVID. The Panthers didn’t disappoint their fans, shaking off early jitters and pulling away from the Tome for a commanding 80-49 win in their home opener. Fresh off a victory the day before against Providence Christian Academy, the Titans grabbed an early lead with a pair of three-pointers. The Panthers composed themselves, fought back, and buried a three-pointer of their own with 1:50 left in the opening quarter to pull ahead for good. Seniors Daniel Tserkis and Angelo Stanley came out firing on all cylinders for Perryville. Stanley
drained 23 points to lead all scorers and Tserkis added 15. “We did amazing today. I feel amazing, my nerves are shot, I'm shaking and everything,” said Stanley after the win. “ I want to be able to play like this every night. This is like my first year where I actually trained and did everything I needed to. I just wanna be able to play how I play, play my game, and not worry about anything else.” In spite of giving up a size advantage to Perryville, the Titans didn't go down without a fight. Senior Gavin Davis put up 17 points to lead Tome, with Junior Sam Booth adding 13. “I think we started off with a positive attitude from the previous night's win, we went out and put in our work, the game was close for the first half but foul trouble got the best
of us,” said Davis. He added, “We were unable to finish on plays at the rim and from the free throw line, which cost us big time in the end.” Perryville’s head coach Ron Kidd was happy with how his squad tackled the early adversity against Tome., “I'm very happy we got a lot of people in the game and they all contributed and played hard. They work hard in practice and it was great to reward them with some minutes,” said Kidd. “ They raised the tempo of the game, they pressured full court, they ran fast breaks, they did a great job. They knew the game plan and they executed it perfectly. This is the first home game since COVID and it's great to be back. ” PHOTOS BY KARINA SERIO

MIL CONFERENCE RIVALS FACE OFF IN SEASON OPENER
PHOTOS BY KARINA SERIO
By Karina Serio
The Tome School went gate to wire for a 5949 win against Providence Christian Academy at home Thursday night to open their boys’ basketball season. It was a track meet from the start for the Titans, who ran out to a quick 9-0 lead. Seniors Taven Nunley and Ryotaro Orihara led the way for the Titans with 19 points and 12 points, respectively. The Griffins had several sustained runs in the first half to get back within a pair
of baskets by the break. The Titans came out in the second half ready to fight. “They stole our lunch; they really did. We came out here and they just took it right from us,” said Providence coach Ryan Wilson. Jon McAndrew and Bryce Unruh each scored 13 points for the Griffins, Nathan Morris added 11 points. Gavin Davis added nine points in the senior push towards Coach Doe Goldman’s first varsity victory. “No better feeling than to get a win at home. Felt like
we came into the season underrated and we came out and proved ourselves, and I think that’s a good start to the year,” said Taven Nunley, who rattled off three straight baskets at the start of the 3rd quarter to push the Titan lead towards double digits.. “We played hard. They kept the pressure on, they kept putting pressure on them. I liked the tempo.” Coach Goldman said. He went on to assess what his squad must work on to improve moving forward. “We have to be able to anticipate
the next pass, they gotta have their eyes in the game, they gotta have their focus on the whole total game.” It was a long week for Providence heading into this season opener. They lost a week of practice to COVID quarantines and Coach Wilson felt it had a negative impact. “We had to miss three practices last week. The biggest thing was we just weren’t ready to play. Tome had a lot of energy today and we just weren’t ready. It’s hard, we didn't really get to practice this week and I
know Tome’s been practicing all week.” In spite of the tough loss, Coach Wilson feels his players are ready for the challenge ahead for the Griffins next week, “We have a full week of games next week and only one practice, so we’ll have to learn on the job during the game. It’s going to be a good test for us, but we have the chance to get a lot better.”

LADY EAGLES WIN HOME OPENER 34-20 AGAINST TRI-STATE CRUSADERS
By Emily Sample
The Bohemia Manor Eagles faced the Tri-State Lady Crusaders on Monday night for Bohemia Manor’s basketball home opener. The Eagles previous season (2019-2020) ended with the Lady Eagles winning the Regional Championship game and a 19-5 record. The Eagles 20202021 season would be lost due to covid. The Eagles picked up where they left off as Regional Champions and showed they how they earned that title. Coming out strong
and putting on a show, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Crusaders by a final score of 34-20. The Eagles defensive play was a key in their success as they kept the pressure on the Crusaders to try to protect the ball. The Eagles defense was able to shut out The Crusaders 10-0 by the end of the 1st quarter. The Eagles defense shined by tallying 20 steals on the night. The Lady Eagles were led by Senior Kara Pardue, Sophomore Addie Sample, and Junior Rylee Lenz. Pardue put up a total
of 9pts., 6 rebounds, and 6 steals. Sample had a total of 7 pts., and 4 steals. Lenz tallied 2 pts., 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. The Lady Crusaders were led by Sophomore Etta Harris and sophomore Tessa Davis. Etta Harris put up a total of 6 pts. while Davis put up 4. The Tri-State Crusaders (1-1) will travel to North East High School to face off against the North East Indians (0-2) on Tuesday Dec 14. By Kevin Phillips NORTH EAST-Throughout Charles Givens Senior’s tenure as Elkton’s boys’ basketball head coach, the defense has often carried the team throughout the earlier portions of the season as the offense takes time to find its rhythm. That trend continued in the visiting Golden Elks’ battle with inter-county rival North East forced 27 turnovers and held the Indians to 19% shooting but struggled with consistent offense in a 58-35 victory Thursday night. “Defense will always look good, and we could probably look better than that. That’s our strong point at this point in the season,” Givens Sr. said. “That is what I stress and that’s what I preach in order to do.” Elkton relied on its defense defense set the tone early as it forced eight turnovers and held North East to 10% shooting from the field in the first quarter as it built a 10-2 lead after eight minutes, and that strong defensive play continued into the second quarter as the Golden Elks gave up two field goals in the frame and took a 29-14 lead into halftime. The third quarter is where Elkton put the game out of reach as it had its best overall quarter of the game as it shot 67% from the field en route to outscoring the Indians 22-9 in the frame to build a 51-23 lead. The Golden Elks cruised from there to earn the victory, but Givens Sr. says they still have to find their way offensively as they struggled from the field outside of third quarter, finishing the game with a 38% shooting percentage. “Not good. It’s still a learning process from two years ago, trying to find some balance, still trying to find the scorers and still trying to find the rotation,” Givens Sr. said. “It’s not coming
easy.” Elkton was paced by Gabe Agui’s 10 points while Jaden Triplett, Obote Briscoe and Erijae Williams added 9 points each, and Ethan Hassell scored a game-high 14 points for North East. Despite the loss, Indian head coach Seth Grimes took some positives from the game and found things they could work on as the season progresses. “I thought we did a
pretty decent job on defense. I thought we did a good job moving, rotating and helping each other,” Grimes said. “When you look at it, our offense is really where we need to do our work. We need to move the ball quicker against the zone. We need to look for the cutters and make accurate passes. A lot of times, we are saying ‘be confident with your shot. If you have a wide open shot, you need to take that shot.’”
