It was an emotional win this week for North East Junior Blaydon Blake as he wrestled against Perryville on Wednesday doing his part for the team in their 3923 win over the Panthers. Blaydon normally wrestles in the 152lb weight class and weighed in at 145 before his match Wednesday. He would give up 15lbs to his opponent as he wrestled in the 160lb weight class for the night. Blaydon pinned his opponent in a hard fought match and may have a rematch on Monday when the Team Tournament Playoffs begin at Perryville High.
This week the Indians began the week with a 3-9 Record and started a 3 game winning streak for the first time since January 2017. They started out the week with one of the toughest teams on their schedule, the Rising Sun Lady Tigers. Katy led the team to a 32-31upset of the Tigers by draining 15 points for her team and continued to be a dominating force on the court all week.

RISING SUN CRUSHES HAVRE DE GRACE ON THE MATS BUT LOSES DUAL ON FORFEITS By Kevin Phillips
NORTH EAST–Rising Sun entered Friday’s UCBAC dual meet battle with visiting Havre de Grace short handed as just seven wrestlers took to the mat. All seven picked up pinfall victories against the Warriors, but for the second time this week, that was not enough for the Tigers to overcome seven forfeits as they lost on the 6th tiebreaker in a 42-43 defeat. “We have a solid core of wrestlers, about seven or eight, that are consistently winning for us. I have a bunch of guys that are hurt right now, not serious injuries, but banged up and couldn’t wrestle tonight,” Rising Sun head coach Seth Garvin said. “It’s tough when you have only seven guys to compete. We had to win every match, with a win to compete, but I’m proud of these guys.” Tyler Garvin got the Tigers rolling when he won his match in 54 seconds at 106 with a pin in the meet’s first match, and Desi McTague followed that up with a pinfall victory 2:17 into his match at 113 pounds to make the score 12-0.
The Warriors got forfeit victories by Andrew Higgins, Liam Logan and Aydon Boyd at 120, 125 and 132 pounds respectively, but Rising Sun’s Connor Dube tied the meet at 1818 when he earned a pinfall victory in 24 seconds at 138 pounds. Havre de Grace then picked up three more forfeits by Chris Bromley at 145 pounds, Sam Teefy at 152 pounds, and Thomas Thorton at 160 pounds. Those three forfeits put the Tigers in a 36-18 hole with four matches remaining. Mason Testerman got Rising Sun rolling when he scored a pin 1:51 into his match at 170 pounds, and Colin Bell made it two in a row when won via pinfall in 1:20 at 182 pounds. After Jacob Gillich picked up the Warriors’ final forfeit victory at 195, the Tigers’ Elijah Farr took on Zach Hamilton at 220 pounds. Farr was in control for most of the match, but Hamilton put up a solid defense in the first round and most of the second round before Farr capitalized on an opening to get the pin 3:29 into the match. “He was good at getting to his base and trying to actually fight. That’s some-
thing I have to give credit to him,” Farr said. “When he went to turn back, he went too far back, and kind of capitalized on that.” In the final match of the evening, Rising Sun’s Nicholas Bowers won with a pin at 1:50 seconds at 285 pounds to tie the match at 4242, setting up the tiebreaker, but the Warriors picked up the extra point after the sixth tiebreaker, which is the team that has the least number of forfeits, to pick up the win. Even with the loss, Seth Garvin has a positive outlook on how well his team will perform as the Tigers head into the final stages of the regular season and postseason tournaments. “That’s what we’ve been focusing a lot on recently. Not so much the team, but the individual. That’s what we have been reiterating,” Garvin said. “When it comes down to the end of the year, it’s an individual sport when it gets to that point. I think these guys are going to do really well. We have 4-5 guys who should qualify for states and dove very well in the conference and regional tournaments.”

TSERKIS LEADS PANTHERS TO 78-47 WIN OVER BOHEMIA MANOR By Margaret McGlothlin
On Friday night The Perryville Panthers (6-5) traveled to The Eagles Nest of Bohemia Manor Highschool (4-10) for a basketball game for their second matchup between each other, with a final score of 78-47. The Eagles had previously played at The Panthers home court where they defeated The Eagles 56-44, with only a 12 point lead. The Panthers got the ball in hand at the jump ball, but Senior Arcel Ramirez Mora of Bohemia Manor started off the game with a 3-point shot. The first quarter started off slow with equal efforts and ended 12-11, favoring Perryville. Early in the second quarter #4 Tayvin Griffin and #11 Sean Bear seemed to find their connection with one another. Sean Beard drove into the paint for a layup, and assisted Tayvin
Griffin throughout the entire second quarter. Although Perryville’s consistency was very apparent, Jonas Scott of Bohemia Manor stood tall for a block to defend the basket. The third quarter was started off by the Eagles with a shot banking off the backboard by Scott. However, Perryville continued their lead into the third pushing for points and gaining possession by stealing the basketball. #24 Daniel Tserkis of the Panthers scored back to back layups while Sean Beard continues to assist his teammates passing the ball far down the court with accuracy. A missed shot from The Eagles is recovered by Dennis Kemether who goes right back up successfully. As the eagles start to show some development the third quarter ends 56-29, in favor of Perryville. The last quarter of the game was once again
started off by The Eagles with a pass from Junior Kyle Polaski to Scott to put two points on the board. The Panthers quickly responded with shots all around the court, including a 3-pointer from Perryville #13 Caedon Kestner along with back to back 3’s from Angelo Stanley. The Eagles were led by Senior, #24 Jonas Scott who had 17 points, and 4 blocks. The Panthers were led by #24 Daniel Tserks with 17 points, #5 Angelo Stanley with 16 points, and #3 Jaimere Guy with 11 points. It was a tough loss and a defensive battle for The Eagles on their home court, and an exhilarating win for The Panthers. The Rising Sun Tigers will travel to Perryville Highschool on Tuesday, February 8th for the In-County matchup, and The Eagles will next play Fallston Highschool at The Nest on Tuesday.

PAGE AND HARRIS LEAD LADY CRUSADERS TO DEFEAT TOME TITANS 29-23 By Karina Serio
The Middle School girl’s matchup between Tri-State Christian Academy and Tome School last Monday featured a handful of players who appeared ready to compete at the next level. The visiting Crusaders jumped out to an early ten point lead and cruised to a 2923 win against the host Titans. The middle school Crusaders were led by eighth-grader Edye Page with nine points and seventh-grader Lizzy Harris who added eight points. For Tome, eighth-grader Ainsley Carillo led all scorers, draining 11 points.
Gary Slagle, Head Coach for Tri-State’s middle school girls basketball team, commented on the value of middle school basketball. “It sets up a good foundation. What's cool about this team is we have a good nucleus of eighth graders with Edye and Hayden and Mica and then we got a strong nucleus of seventh graders with Lizzy and Julia and Kayla,” said Slagle. “So next year’s looking promising and that's sort of what Tri-State basketball is about, developing them young so that when they get to the high school they are ready to step in and play.”

The Tri-State Christian Academy Middle School Boys Team traveled to The Tome School’s gymnasium to challenge the Middle School Titans Monday night. The Titans were stacked with scorers who came out firing on all cylinders, sprinted to an early lead and never looked back in their 40-16 victory. For the Crusaders Jacob Dequina led with six points. Kenny Kohler and Brandon Swort each added four points. Eighth-graders Spencer Cain and Harold Beljour led the Ti-
tans with 11 and ten points respectively. Although Tome may not be noted for its athletics, Head Coach Trevor Prevost hopes to make a difference. “We’re here to build a winning culture and by having kids like Harold, Spencer, and Cayden A, Will, Cayden L, Layton, and all the eighth graders we have, it's really about building this core foundation,” said Prevost. “That if we can let players and other people just see the program, that hopefully they’ll want to send their kids here and we can just keep building a basketball culture.”

NORTH EAST LADY INDIANS LOOKING TO SET A 10 YR RECORD ON MONDAY NIGHT AT SENIOR NIGHT!
The North East Indians Girls Basketball Team came into this week 3-9 on their season with 7 games to go. The Indians played 3 of those 7 remaining games this week and have gotten off to their first 3 game winning streak since Jan 26, 2017. The last time the Lady Indians won 3 in a row the current Seniors
on the team were in the 7th grade!! On Monday Night the Lady Indians faced County Rivals, the Rising Sun Tigers and in what many would call an upset, beat the Tigers 32-31 in a game that came right down to the buzzer. The Indians carried that energy over to Wednesday Night when
they hosted the North Harford Hawks and for only the second time this season, they had back to back wins after beating the Hawks 36-29. Thursday Night the Lady Indians were on the road where they have had a 1-5 record when traveling. The girls extended their win streak to 3 games as the Indians
soundly defeated the Joppatowne Mariners 44-22. Now 6-9 on the Season, the North East Lady Indians come back to North East for their next game on Monday Feb 7 when they will host the Perryville Panthers. In their last contest, the Indians defeated the Panthers 35-20 in Perryville and are looking to make it 4 wins
in a row for the first time in over a decade. Monday Night will also be Senior Night for the Indians where they will recognize Seniors Cailyn Hawley, Catie Roberts, Melanie Seefeldt, Megan Harris and Maddy Tadalan in pre-game ceremonies.

EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 3 GAMES AFTER SHUTTING DOWN TOME 44-16 By Karina Serio
The matchup between Tome School and visiting Bohemia Manor Thursday night in girls basketball was a story of two teams heading in different directions in February. The Eagles built an early lead on the road and powered past the Titans for a 44-16 win. The victory was Bohemia Manor’s third straight, as Tome started off the month dropping back to back games against county rivals. Bohemia Manor’s Head Coach Sean Lenz was happy with his team’s performance. “I think we’re starting to gel as a unit. We have a lot of new parts to the basketball team. We got a lot of returners from two years and I think they're starting to settle down after that year off,” said Lenz
“They are starting to trust each other again, trust what the coaches are saying. They’re starting to see some of the things that we practice give a positive return on the floor. I think they're starting to trust each other and they're starting to play better basketball.” For Bo Manor, Reagan Lenz led all scorers firing off 12 points; Julia Walz added 9. Between snow days, midterms exams and corona virus protocols, Tome Coach Jermaine Palmer knew his team was already out of sorts. “We missed a week of practice for midterms and some snow days. Lack of practice means we're outta sync, we’re just off, the chemistry is off. We just gotta get back to work, said Palmer. “In the second half we brought energy. If we'd have brought that energy in the
second half it would've been a different game. The energy is key to basketball, when you come out sluggish and the other team is ready to go they punch you first.” For the Titans, Landen Cain scored 7. Campbell Walker and Emmersen Peel each added 3. “We want to compete with whoever we are put on the floor against. Whether it's Harford County or Cecil County. Cecil County basketball as a whole is getting better and better. I include Tri-State and Tome in that,” said Lenz, “Tome has some good basketball players. [Landen] Cain is very impressive and obviously [Emmersen] Peel is very impressive. So you throw those two into the mix and I think Cecil County basketball is moving in a positive direction.”
