Bohemia Manor Senior Chase Rondone has been unstoppable on the mat this season racking up 19 consecutive wins for the Bo Manor Eagles Wrestling Team in the 126lb. weight class. Chase has his eyes set on the State Championships next month and should progress deep into the State Tournament and have a shot at the top spot.
This week the Tome Titans found themselves without Senior Emmersen Peel with one of their toughest opponents on the schedule coming to play on Thursday. Tome Junior, Landen Cain put up an impessive 16 points in the 23-22 loss to the Tri-State Christian Lady Crusaders. Rebound and Steal stats were not available. Ultimately the Lady Titans unbeaten record fell to the Lady Crusaders by just 1 point because Cain kept her team within striking distance to have a chance at a victory.

TRACK ATHLETES GET ONE MORE CHANCE TO COMPETE AT PERRYVILLE MEET
By Amanda Callaghan
Hosted on January 13th, the second Cecil County indoor track meet was a success! The meet was held outdoors at Perryville High School’s state-of-theart track, and the mild weather (for January) provided a great setting for personal records and top competition. All athletes were grateful for the opportunity to compete; with COVID-19 numbers rising and the safety of indoor meets becoming more and more questionable, indoor track athletes have been taking advantage of any opportunities they have to run. In attendance at the meet were athletes from Perryville, North East,
Rising Sun, and Havre De Grace High Schools. All athletes performed terrifically even with the unique challenges of an outdoor track meet held in the winter. In the girls' competition of the meet, Rising Sun won first place with 89 points; Rising Sun team members won the 55 meter hurdles (Ella Cost), 300m dash (Isabella Chavis), 500m run (Amanda Callaghan), 800m run (Katelynn Callaghan), 4x200 relay (Ella Cost, Alexis Haywood, Carly McCardell, Katelyn Lacey), 4x400 relay (Amanda Callaghan, Georgia Mercer, Anna Callaghan, Katelyn Lacey), and 4x800 relay (Amanda Callaghan, Eve Poteet, Katelynn Callaghan, Katelyn Lacey). Perryville’s
Girls team won second place with 35 points, followed by North East with 32 points, and Havre De Grace with 10 points. In the boys' competition of the meet, Perryville came out on top with 60.5 points; Perryville team members won the 55 meter hurdles (Lucas Johnson), 300m dash (Zach Ayers), 4x400 relay (Ty Stiffler, Jaylen Brown, Andrew Hernandez, Matt Grahe) and pole vault (Anthony Baldwin). Rising Sun came in second with 43.5 points, North East came in third with 28 points, and Havre De Grace finished fourth with 26 points. Congratulations to all of the athletes who performed at the meet!

EAGLES OUT WRESTLE NORTH HARFORD, BUT FORFEITS COST THEM THE WIN PHOTOS BY SAM DIXON
By Kevin Phillips
CHESAPEAKE CITY–While Bohemia Manor fell to visiting North Harford 46-33 in the team’s wrestling dual meet Wednesday evening, there were many positives that head coach Tyear Castle took away from the event. The Eagles won a majority of the ten matches contested on the day, and even in the matches they lost, Castle saw his team apply lessons learned in practice. “I even had one of my freshmen implement a move I showed him last night even though he lost, which shows that he was putting forth the effort in executing the move and using what he’s been taught in his matches,” Castle said. “Overall, that’s the majority of what I’m happy about. They’re using what they’re learning in practice in their matches, and they’re showing their improvement by beating kids they previ-
ously lost to.” Bo Manor scored its first victory of the day when Josh Allen translated an early takedown to a pinfall victory at 120 pounds just 1:06 into the match. Chase Rondone gave the Eagles their second match victory of the meet when he scored a pinfall victory at 132 pounds. He recovered from error at the tail end of the first round to get the pin early in the second round. “I went on the mat and felt him out a little bit at first. I saw my opportunity around the edge of the mat and took him down,” Rondone said of his match. “I kind of jumped the gun and tried to get a nice highlight reel, and it ended up costing me two points. It was like the first points that I have given up that were not all my fault. Then, my dad told me to ‘cool it down.’ I started getting calm, and then I felt the armbar. I looked at the clock
and realized his shoulder would go.” In the very next match, Thomas Waters was tied late in the third round of his match at 138 pounds before he scored two points for a reversal, which led to a pin with just 23 seconds left in the match to give Bo Manor six points. Noah Beck and Pharel Petitfrere gave the Eagles pinfall victories at 152 and 182 pounds respectively while Charlie Rinker won a
6-3 decision at 170 pounds. The dual meet was a bounce back for a couple of Bo Manor grapplers, who lost matches to North Harford in a tournament in December, and Castle was happy with the improvement he saw from those wrestlers. “I was most impressed with a couple of my guys who wrestled a couple of the North Harford kids before and lost to them at the Kent Holiday Tournament,” Castle said. “A lot of them
showed that they have been improving every day and came in today and won the match they had previously lost.” Cruz Cespedes, Tristan DeVoe, and Clay Lawrence gave the Hawks pinfall victories at 126, 145 and 285 pounds respectively with Tommy Blankenship adding a 12-0 majority decision at 113 pounds. North Harford also won four matches via forfeit to earn 24 points to help their cause.

TRI-STATE CRUSADERS BOUNCE BACK WITH 66-37 WIN OVER THE TOME TITANS
By Karina Serio
Tri-State Christian Academy faced early pressure on the road in boys basketball against the Tome School. After a timeout, they refocused, knocked down some timely 3-pointers and quickly put the game out of reach for a 66-37 win. The Crusaders were looking to rebound after a loss two days earlier that snapped an eight game winning streak and came into North East expecting a relatively easy matchup against the Titans. Tome went out to an 8-2 lead. “We knew we would overmatch this team pretty easily.” said Tri-State Coach Bill Smith, “[Tome has a] good coach, good team, but we kinda came in with the coasting a little bit and we can’t do that.” Smith’s timeout did the
trick and Tri State ended the first quarter up 17-12. “We were in a man to man defensive and defensively we weren't bringing the intensity on the man (to man defense),” said Smith. “So just getting into the zone and encouraging the guys to pump up their defense and play harder. We knew we would overmatch this team pretty easily.” During the next two quarters, the Crusaders rattled off 42 points with six three-pointers and the Titans just could not keep pace. “Having people who can shoot outside opens it up inside cause they have to close out fast and being an outside threat just spaces the floor better,” said junior Jonte Jenson. It was the same observation Coach Smith made about Tri-State outsourcing Tome 8-to-1 on 3-pointers alone. “We have
a lot of guys who can shoot three pointers and these guys are out looking for the open man. The way they’re getting open threes is by our passing and spacing. That’s really important to us,” said Smith. Jenson led the Crusaders with 14 points. Tri-State also had 13 from Jeremiah Falko, 12 from Kyle Rogers and 11 points from Sam Falko. Gavin Davis led the Titans in scoring with 15 points and the only 3-pointer. Luke Wagenknecht added 13. The win was a learning experience for Jenson. “We came in with the mentality that we were gonna roll them over and then they came out and they fought back,” said Jenson. “Coach just told us to get in it and then our heads got in it. We just pulled out and started pulling away.”

UNDEFEATED TITANS FALL TO CONFERENCE RIVAL TRI-STATE CHRISTIAN CRUSADERS 23-22 By Karina Serio
The task of remaining unbeaten on the season against rival Tri-State Christian Academy was even more daunting for the Tome Lady Titans Thursday night on their home court, as they faced the Lady Crusaders without former Cecil County Sports Weekly Athlete of the Week and senior starter Emmersen Peel. The Titans kept the matchup close throughout, but Tri-State’s tough defense handed the Lady Titans a 23-22 loss - their first of the season. Scoring was at a premium with four players scoring the bulk of the points for both teams, making Meme Daniels’ trio of three-pointers even more meaningful for Tri-State. “They were huge (Daniel’s three-pointers) because, I mean, Meme is our best shooter and she
was struggling to start off the game. They came in here tonight and were kinda in a fog,” said Tri-State coach Bill Smith. “It’s good, they are a good team, well coached and I’m fully aware they are missing one of their best players tonight. It is what it is and we came in on our rival team and got it done. So I’m proud of the girls, they're starting to take instruction very well and they’re doing what we’re asking them to do.” The absence of Peel due to coronavirus protocols may have slowed the Titans down, but Landen Cain and Campbell Walker kept Tome in the fight. Cain was seemingly here, there and everywhere with steals, rebounds and baskets when they were needed to keep the Titans close. Cain had 16 points for the Lady Titans. Walker added six. “This game was a test for us with-
out Emmersen. She’s a senior and won’t be with us next year. It’s definitely a good test,” said Tome Head Coach Jermaine Palmer. “We lost by one, we missed a lot of shots. Tri-State was prepared for us, they knew that Emmersen wasn’t here. They did a great job. They did what they were supposed to do.” The win was meaningful for TriState’s Hope Pfadt. “It feels really good. I’m really proud of my team, I feel like we really worked together tonight and we really kind of overcame this,” said Pfadt. “Passing the ball and relying on each other even if we got a turnover. We got back on defense and we finished well and I feel like we really trust each other as a team and we really pulled through together.” Pfadt led the Lady Crusaders with ten points. Daniels added nine.

PERRYVILLE BEATS RISING SUN 68-57
PHOTOS BY SCOTTY BENNETT
By Kevin Phillips
NORTH EAST– After seeing an 11-point, third quarter lead completely evaporate in the early stages of the fourth quarter, Perryville called a timeout to settle down and switch to the defense that got it the lead. The Panthers bounced back after the timeout and proceeded to score 18 of the game’s next 20 points en route to defeating host Rising Sun 68-57 in UCBAC Susquehanna Division boys’ basketball action Friday night. “We lost our discipline on our half court defense. That’s also when I decided to go back to that press,” Perryville head coach Ron Kidd said. “Our guys play a lot better with high energy. Once we got
some turnovers and got some easy baskets, I think things turned around.” The Panthers led 40-29 midway through the third quarter, but the Tigers rallied with a 17-6 run that carried over to the fourth quarter to tie the game at 46-46 on a Jeremy Frock three-pointer with 6:26 remaining in the game. After Frock’s tying three-pointer, Kidd called a timeout to give his team a break and calm them down, and the talk during the break was just to remain calm. “Let's keep our focus. Let's keep our composure and let's keep our heads and know the outcome is going to go our way,” Perryville’s Daniel Tserkis said. “We talked about it. We settled down on defense and offense,
stopped turning the ball over, and locked down on defense, and that’s what we did. We have a team full of hustlers. Everyone contributes, and that’s how we won.” Sean Beard started the surge when he made one of two free throws to give the Panthers the lead, and Caedon Kestner got the run going in earnest when he made a three-pointer with 5:28 left in the fourth quarter to make it a fourpoint game. By the end of the game-deciding run, Perryville increased its lead to 64-48 with 1:19 remaining in the contest, and Kestner was the one who powered the run with nine points. The Panthers had four players score in double digits on the evening led
by Tserkis’s 17 points. Kestner finished with 13 points while Jaimer Guy and Angelo Stanley chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively. Perryville had a strong day from beyond the three-point arc with six made threes, and that is something Kidd expects to see from his team. “I actually have a really good shooting team, but they haven’t shown it yet,” Kidd said. “That’s what I expect this year. They moved the ball and only took open shots instead of forcing it, and we knocked them down.”
Luke Moore scored a game-high 27 points while Frock added 13 for the Tigers, who put themselves back in the game in the third quarter with good defense. “Defense. We started shutting down and got turnovers. We rode that wave and got a couple of threes,” Rising Sun head coach Scott Lammers said. “That was a critical point, but it also took a lot out of us, and so, we got a little bit tired as the game moved into the fourth quarter.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL: PERRY VILLE vs NORTH EAST
CHRYSTAL LEADS INDIANS TO 35-20 VICTORY
By Kevin Phillips
PERRYVILLE–North East stuck to the fundamentals on defense in its UCBAC Susquehanna Division girls’ basketball contest against host Perryville Thursday night. That commitment to the basics proved to be successful for the Indians as they stymied the Panthers throughout the contest, and they did just enough on the offensive end of the floor to earn a 35-20 victory. “We challenged the girls. We wanted them to move their feet more and keep everything in front of us and not get caught trying to use our hands and reach,” North East head coach Matt Haack said. “The girls did an excellent job pushing with their feet and put their guards in uncomfortable positions because we knew if we could get their guards frustrated, that could pay some big dividends for us defensively.” By keeping their hands up, the Indians ensured that they contested every Perryville shot, and those challenges enabled North East to limit the Panthers to just eight field goals. Another reason for the Indians’ strong defense was that they had improved footwork on the defensive end.. “We were moving our feet a lot more than we usually do,” North East’s
Jasmine Chrystal said. “That allowed us not to get into foul trouble.” The Indians never trailed in the game as they scored the game’s first six points en route to taking a 10-3 lead after eight minutes of action, and they outscored the Panthers 11-4 in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead into the halftime break. Chrystal helped North East put the game out of reach in the third quarter as she scored six of her game-high 10 points in the frame to help her team build a 29-13 lead heading into the final quarter. Even though the Indians scored 35 points in the game, Haack believes they did a good job running their

offense and attacking Perryville’s zone defense, but their shots did not fall. “We were getting the shots we wanted. We didn’t make a lot of them near the rim, but we made just enough,” Haack said. “I think the biggest thing we were doing tonight was our ball movement was a lot better. We were getting reversals against the zone and making that extra pass to get that open look at the rim. The girls did a great job of that tonight.” Cailyn Hawley chipped in nine points for North East, and the Panthers got seven points from Cienna Lilly and six points from Alyssa Stanley.

EAGLES FLYING HIGH AFTER 39-20 VICTORY OVER STRUGGLING INDIANS
By Emily Sample
The North East Lady Indians took a trip across the C&D Canal to the Eagles Nest to face Bo Manor, looking for an exciting in-county matchup on Friday. The Eagles started off strong with multiple fast breaks by Julia Walz. These quick points caused the Indians to call a timeout early in the game. After a few minutes, the Indians tied up the game on foul shots by Jasmin Chrystal. The Eagles quickly fought back and took the lead again ending the first quarter up 7-4. Entering the second quarter, the Indians got their seventh foul putting the Ea-

gles in the bonus early. Bo Manor’s defense was strong, only allowing the Indians to put up a total of 7 points by halftime. The first half ended with a score of 19-7 in favor of the Eagles. During the second half, the Eagles did not let up the pressure on the Indians as they scored 18 points in the 3rd quarter and extended their lead. In the fourth quarter, the Indians staged a comeback by holding the Eagles to only two points while they put up ten, but it wasn’t enough. The Indians were led by Jasmin Chrystal and Katie Hammer. Chrystal tallied five points and Hammer had four.
Julia Walz, Simone Mittucci, and Rylee Lenz led for Bo Manor. Walz had a total of 10 points, and 4 steals. Mittucci had 10 points while Lenz had a total of 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. The Lady Eagles took the game with a final score of 39-20. The Lady Eagles bump up their record to 7-3 leaving the Indians with a record of 3-6. The Indians travel to Havre De Grace and host North Harford in the upcoming week. In the Eagles’ upcoming week they will be traveling to Harford Tech and Aberdeen High facing two very strong upper region teams.
