MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
DANIEL TSERKIS Perryville Senior Daniel Tserkis had an incredible moment this week in the Annual Homecoming Game vs. Rising Sun High School. Daniel recorded 4 catches this week totaling 61 yards and a TD. It wasn’t just any Touchdown... it was a game winning, team should have carried him off the field Touchdown. Daniel also had 2 Tackles in the game. Daniel is our Male Athlete of the Week for Sept 28 because of the difficulty of the catch and his being able to make the play and get his team the win under pressure. Without his catch, Homecoming would have been a disappointment for Panthers Fans.
#14 FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
HARLEY BARTON Rising Sun Senior Harley Barton had a game many girls dream of having happen to them when a College Recruiter is watching. As Goalie for the Tigers, Harley tallied 26 saves blocking shot after shot and diving repeatedly to make saves. In our photos from the event she’s diving in most of the photos. The Mustangs had 20 Offensive Corners and all were defended without a score. After almost three complete quarters of this fast paced constant defense the opposing C.Milton Wright managed to score. They would not get another score in the 4th quarter as Barton continued to defend the goal with the same level of intensity the rest of the game.

HOMECOMING SAVED WITH TSERKIS CATCH PHOTO BY SCOTT SERIO
SENIOR DANIEL TSERKIS ENDS HIS LAST HOMECOMING GAME WITH CATCH WE WILL TALK ABOUT FOR YEARS By Aaron Rouselle
If last night’s Rising Sun vs Perryville Varsity Football Game taught us anything it would be that until that clock its zero, you don’t quit. As the sunset at Perryville High School and the cool fall air started to hit, the opening kickoff to a game many kids, students and parents won’t forget. Homecoming games are always extra special but not just for the home team. Few things fire a football team up more than being able to be spoiler to homecoming game and Rising Sun was one play
away from doing just that. The game started off with a field position battle as both teams put together solid defense plays to force each other until punting. Until Perryville’s Jamiere Guy boogied his way through potential tacklers for a 20-yard Touchdown. #5 Zack Clarke completed the extra point kick to put the Panthers up 7-0 early in the 1st quarter. The ensuing kickoff Rising Sun Sam Ehrhart takes it back 93 yards for a touchdown, only to be called back on for a hold. Rising Sun was unable to get anything else going and eventually lead to another punt.
The action picked right back up in the 2nd quarter as Perryville putting together a drive Rising Suns #33 Travis Bare jumped Perryville QB Zack Clarke’s pass and took it down the sideline 40 yards for the pick six. Rising Sun added the extra point, tying the game at 7-7. As the 2nd quarter was coming to an end Perryville’s Jaimere Guy broke a long run to put Perryville into scoring position. The drive and the half were capped off by Perryville QB Clarke taking a broken play into a scramble for a touchdown. Perryville’s extra point kick
was unsuccessful leaving the score 13-7 at the half. As always, the half time show at Perryville was entertaining as the Perryville Cheerleaders put together a flawless routine, followed by the band and the color guard’s awarding winning performance. The third quarter was more of the same battle of the trenches with neither defense giving up much. A few big plays by both teams offensively but nothing that lead to any points. picked off a pass by Rising Sun QB Gannon Russell, but Perryville was unable to capitalize on the turnover. With the score still 13-7 in favor of Perryville It seemed as though this game was going to end as most of the 4th quarter went the same as the 3rd. Neither team willing to break defensively. As the game was in its final minute the action picked up. The Tigers clawed their way into the Panthers Red Zone pushing closer and closer to the End Zone. Inside the 10 on a 4th

and goal Rising Sun’s Sam Ehrhart Followed his blockers onto the goal line, crossing the ball into the end zone for the touchdown. With 56 seconds to go, the game was tied 13-13 with Rising Sun having the chance to take the lead with the pending extra point. Not to break the trend of this game the kick hits the crossbar but still bounces through and is good. Rising Sun takes the lead 14-13 by a matter of inches with less than a minute in the game. With less than a minute remaining on the clock,
Perryville has the ball with about 70 yards to score. Perryville’s QB Clarke legs never seemed to stop running as he made plays with his feet for Perryville but in the end, it was his arm and trust in his receivers that put Perryville in position to score. He was able to find Zach Ayers down the sideline for a 40-yard gain to move Perryville to Rising Suns 25-yard line. Followed by a dart to Daniel Tserkis to put Perryville at Rising Suns 5-yard line with 16 seconds left in the game. Two Plays later, with some fans leaving and all the hopes for Perryville left, Clarke

lofts a fade pass to the corner for Tserkis who went up and ripped the ball from the sky with one hand. Kids will say he “Odelled” it, Football fans will say he “Mossed” it, But I like to think he made a Tserkis (Circus) catch over a defender who played the ball perfect, Daniel just made a play. The Panthers connected on the extra point taking the lead in dramatic fashion 20-14. Both Teams deserve all the credit for never giving up and playing a hard-fought game, unfortunately there must be a winner and on this beautiful cool Fall Home-
coming Night, Perryville was able to come away with a big win. After the game I was able to speak with Daniel Tserkis who had nothing but good things to say, “Never will we give up, never will we fight with each other, and that’s the results you get from it.” Coach Sandora also commented saying “I am just proud of our team, we came out here and fought against a tough rising sun team, we faced some adversity during the week, but at the end of the day they came together and played as a team.

By Megan Steimer It was a late night for volleyball action in Chesapeake City, one which saw fantastic plays and impeccable serving by Bo Manor along with some gutsy digs by Perryville. Ultimately, a flawless performance by the Eagles led to a 25-9, 25-10, 25-19 win over the Panthers to remain undefeated this season. Bo Manor seniors Emily Sample and Margaret McGlothlin went on service runs to begin the set, generating a large lead over Perryville. The Eagles strong and accurate serves were apparent from the beginning,
tearing apart a Panthers serve receive and leaving them to play defense most of the game. Riley Lenz put on a clinic with help from Eagles passers and McGlothlin, who set the ball with such high accuracy. Lenz and McGlothlin were able to run quick set plays, resulting in four of Lenz’s team high 12 kills, including a backrow attack to capture game one. Game two saw much of the same dominance with a versatile McGlothlin finding open hitters, leading to attacks from all angles and sides. Olivia McCraw and Simone Mattucci shared outside hitting duties while Lenz controlled the middle.
Perryville was able to get some offensive plays in however, as Kaiva Hicks forced an attack resulting in a kill while also tallying an assist from an Ava McBride kill. The Panthers stayed composed and kept their head in the game all while trying to figure out how to stop an Eagles offense without their libero and co-captain, Gillian Carr, who was sidelined with an injury. Perryville continued to put plays together in the third set, seeing backto-back aces and a kill from captain Paige Kilduff to lift the spirits of a discouraged Panthers team. Bo Manor would answer each time however, as Lenz and McCraw found

open court to put the ball away. The Eagles would go on to win game three and the match behind a fired-up crowd, who endured a late start, to cheer on the home team. Rylee Lenz led all hitters with 12 kills, two digs and three aces, while Olivia McGraw totaled seven kills. Margaret McGlothlin dished out 24 assists to go with her eight aces and Julia Holmes led the defense with 14 digs and two assists. “Tonight, was amazing” McGlothlin said, “we all just played so well together.” Thursday night’s win put Bo Manor at 5-0 on the season while Perryville dropped to a record of 2-3 overall.

Bullerman and Bradfield Help Tome Sweep Providence
By Megan Steimer The Tome Titan’s varsity volleyball team came away with a 3-0 victory Tuesday afternoon, defeating Providence Christian Academy 25-12, 25-15, 28-26 in Mid-Atlantic Independent League play. The Titans went on several service runs in the first set including an early run by libero Lily Cronin, putting Tome up 10-2. The Providence Griffins didn’t let the score hinder their play as a battle at the net would result in a Mackenzie Unruh kill while setter Amy Rash kept her team in the game with several point saving digs. A quiet Katy Bullerman came to life late for the Titans, notching three powerful kills and helping Tome to a game one win. Game two stayed close as the Titans and Griffins went back and forth exchanging service points— even executing a few backrow attacks, including a backrow kill from Unruh. However, Providence couldn’t overcome passing
errors as Bullerman stayed hot for Tome, serving three of her four aces on the night, guiding Tome to a 2-0 match lead. Down two in a best of five series, the Providence Griffins had their backs against the wall. A Summer Horton kill early in set three gave Providence the boost they needed to go on a run, leading 7-3 before a timeout by Tome. Unruh would serve the ball deep into Tome’s side, leaving the defense out of place and unable to make a clean pass. Another incredible dig by Rash kept the momentum going on the Griffins side, at one point leading 15-10, but the Titans hung around and left just enough time for Grace Bradfield to step up and shine. Tome came back taking an 18-16 lead behind two kills and three aces from Bradfield. “A phrase we use specific to our team is to be a goldfish, just forget about the last few seconds and move forward,” Bullerman said while reflecting on the five-point deficit. The Titans
surely needed to be a goldfish as passing errors kept the Griffins in the game. Still, Tome setter Alivia Carrillo found both Bradfield and Bullerman open for attacks, leading to back-to-back kills and a momentum swing back to the Titan’s side. Horton made one last attempt for the Griffins to take game three, unloading a hit to the deep corner on the Titan’s side, giving Providence a 25-24 lead but Bradfield unleashed her final attack to tie the score and eventually win game three and the match for Tome. Grace Bradfield led all hitters with 13 kills and seven aces while Alivia Carrillo dished out a match high 28 assists. Katy Bullerman finished the night with eight kills and four aces for the Titans. Mackenzie Unruh had a busy night for the Griffins with three kills, 15 digs, one ace, and five assists, while Summer Horton led her team with seven kills, two blocks, two digs, and an ace followed by Amy Rash with one kill, 11 digs and five assists. The Rising Sun Tigers played an incredible game against the C. Milton Wright Mustangs. Though the game ended in a 0-1 loss, the Tigers proved that their defense is not to be taken lightly. The Mustangs had 20 offensive corners, all of which the Tigers defended without being scored on. Goalie, Harley Barton, was an absolute beast in the goal for the Tigers, tallying 26 saves. Barton blocked shot after shot, and had a host of diving saves, which continued to spur the Tigers on to keep fighting. With less than two minutes left in the 3rd quarter, C. Milton Wright was finally able to capitalize on a shot, bringing the score to 1-0 in favor of the Mustangs. The Tigers, however, continued to play just as hard in the final quarter, as they had the first three. Senior center defender, Rachel Taylor was a wall in the Ti-
ger’s defensive 25. Senior left defender Kelly Nguyen played a fearless game, laying down several clean reverse stick block tackles to stop Mustang players in their tracks. Senior center-mid Eva Fockler, and Junior leftmid Reena Patel made a stellar team as well. The Tigers showed themselves to be resilient against the Mustangs and plan to use this as a game to build for the next half of the season.

Wallace shoots 34, leads North East to a big win over Aberdeen
By Andrew Barbin
Noah Wallace was back in peak form in a monster performance to carry North East to a huge win over Aberdeen at Ruggles Golf Course. Wallace’s 2-under score of 34 was the match low by 4 shots over Aberdeen’s Alex Ridolfi’s score of 38, and those two strokes to beat the course were good enough to lead North East to a two-stroke victory 245 to 247. North East followed
up Wallace’s round with a 48 from Brandon Kristovich, a 49 from Lance Richardson, a 52 from Ethan Moyers, and a 62 from Noah Slayman. Aberdeen’s Erica Honadel followed Ridolfi’s round with a solid 41 of her own, as well as a 51 from Arthee Srisukwattanonani, a 58 from Phillip Kim, and a 59 from Ryan Conatella. North East improves to 2&7 on the year, and Aberdeen falls to 5&4.
Rising Sun HS takes two in showdown against Harford Tech and Elkton By Andrew Barbin
Ben Adams once again lead Rising Sun HS (8-2) in a huge win of inter-league play over Harford Tech (6&2) and Elkton (2&9) at Patriot Glen National GC. His medaling score of 46 and teammate Tyler Hogue’s score of 49 was good enough to give Rising Sun a 4 stroke lead over Harford Tech, who was led by Kacy Day’s
score of 50 and John Lindner’s 49. Rising Sun’s score of 200 was also 66 shots clear of Susquehanna divisional rival Elkton HS, who was led by Simone Foye’s score of 62. Rising Sun remains undefeated in Susquehanna divisional play, and 8&2 in district play. Elkton moves to 2&3 in the Susquehanna division, and 2&9 overall.

Rising Sun Gets Win Over Elkton 4-0
By Kevin Phillips
CALVERT--After dropping its last two decisions against C. Milton Wright and Patterson Mill, Rising Sun looked to get back to its winning ways against visiting Elkton in boys’ soccer action Wednesday at Calvert Regional Park. The Tigers bounced back in a big way as they scored all four of their goals in the game’s first 15 minutes en route to toppling the Golden Elks 4-0 in UCBAC Chesapeake Division action. “I think we had a good pep talk. We came off of a hard loss last game, and we were ready to play today,” Dylan
Pietuszka, who had a goal and an assist, said of the quick start. Rising Sun wasted no time to get on the board as it scored within 30 seconds of the opening whistle when Pietuszka took advantage of an Elkton turnover and quickly placed a shot low and to the left side of the goal to make it 1-0. Less than a minute later, the Tigers added to its lead when Dane Schuler scored with a rapid fire goal to make it 2-0. After scoring its third goal in the 11th minute, Rising Sun capped its offensive explosion in the 15th minute when Pietuszka fed Schuler,
who calmly put the ball in the net on a breakaway to make it 4-0. Tiger head coach Dylan Aiman says his team’s quick start was just a result of the team executing in all aspects. “We passed the ball to feet. We did what we needed to do, spread them out and capitalized on the opportunities,” Aiman said. “It went our way. I think we made it go our way. It was good.” Rising Sun continued to control the tempo for the rest of the game, creating several promising chances that just did not go in the net, and that control allowed it to keep Elkton at bay and to preserve
the victory. One reason the Tigers bounced back after their twogame losing streak was that they learned from what they did right and wrong in their last two games and applied those lessons against the Golden Elks. “The truth is that every game, we take, win or lose, as a learning experience. I think we try to build from it. We have lost two in a row. I would be happy to play those teams again because we’re playing good soccer,” Aiman said. “We’re taking every game and building on it, and that’s what we’re trying to do, playing toward the end of the season. That’s what counts.”

Churchville Lightning 12U Girls Win USSSA Tournament
The fall softball season kicked off this past weekend for the Churchville Lightning 12U program as they brought home the championship trophy in the "Fear The Fastpitch" USSSA Class "B" tournament. The Lightning defeated the Maryland Integrity 5-1 in a very well played championship game. The team went 5-0 on the weekend while scoring 57 runs on 44 hits. Also, the team played terrific defense allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits while only committing only 5 errors during the tournament. Emma Bare (#36) batted lead off Lightning going 6 for 11 at the plate 5 singles, a triple, 2 walks, 7 runs scored and 3 RBI for the weekend. Bare's raw speed on the basepath led to chaos for the opposing teams and gave the rest of the Lightning lineup chances to score runs. Emily Hildt (#21) led the Lightning for the tournament going 9 for 11 at the plate with a home run and 5 RBI. Hildt also collected 3 wins in the circle with 13 strikeouts while scattering 5 hits over 13 innings. The defense for the Lightning was spectacular, led by May Ambrose behind the plate. With a .954 field percentage for the tournament, the girls were on top of their game defensively. The Bolts look to continue their winning ways in a few weeks in the "Save Second Base For Breast Cancer" USSSA tournament.
