Congratulations Senior Class of 2022 Senior Athletes:
Sports. You obviously all like them, or you wouldn’t be here. Maybe you played because you love competition, wanted to stay in shape, be part of a group, or continue to improve your skills. Whatever your reason or season, you immediately became part of something bigger, and that in itself is an accomplishment. Athletics are a small part of the whole educational process during your high school years; but, as you all know, they can be so much more. Some of your athletic journeys began in high school. Or maybe your journey began when you were 4 or 5 years old, picking flowers on a t-ball field or running like a swarm of bees around a soccer ball. Or maybe it began somewhere in between. Regardless, you have all experienced to some degree the value of sports and all of the cool things that come with it: teamwork, commitment, perseverance, strength, discipline, resilience, and pushing yourself farther than you thought you could go. You have also experienced disappointment and loss, integrity, how to handle adversity, and how to pick yourself and others back up. All of these things have made you better humans, whether you realize it or not! Younger students see this in you, and emulate that behavior. You’re a role model. As you graduate, please remember these lessons. Remember how sweet the victories felt, especially when you were ready to throw in the towel. Remember that it typically takes a lot of effort and hard work to see both personal and team success—and even then, you still might not win. Things might not always seem “fair,” but that does not mean you give up. Work hard, then work harder. Remember to continue to set your goals high. Win and lose gracefully, and find joy in simply playing; have fun. And always remember the importance of teamwork. Take all of the things you have learned and carry them in your back pocket as you step into your life’s next adventure. And finally, as you say good-bye and run off the court, track, mat, or whatever playing field was “yours,” please remember that there are a whole lot of people in your corner, including your coaches—the steadfast and dedicated people who have connected with you, pushed you, and helped you develop successful habits that will go way beyond high school - far into your future. I am grateful for the staff of Cecil Sports Weekly for their tireless efforts to promote athletics in our county and recognize your athletic achievements, capture great moments, and provide the much needed and very well deserved coverage for your accomplishments. They work their tails off because they see not only the value of sports, but YOUR value. We are all proud of you;keep making moments that make you proud of yourselves, too. So congratulations, seniors; you did it! And as you zip away and leave high school in the dust, keep running after your dreams! I have no doubt you will catch them.

COACH’S NOTE:
Cadence had another strong year on the mound for us this year. She recorded 92 strikeouts along with 2 shutout wins in the state playoffs. Her ability to keep hitters off balance was key to her success. Her ERA was 1.268. She has also had a good year with the bat, hitting .291 with 6 doubles, 1 home run and 16 runs batted in. Cadence takes control of a game and trusts her teammates to make plays behind her.
Alesia was our ace this season pitching 123 innings for us. Alesia stepped up and was a leader for us throughout the season; whenever Alesia was up and excited, every other player fed off of her energy. Alesia left 85 runners on base while she was in the circle. She ended the season with 190 strikeouts and a .333 batting average. Alesia faced 523 batters this season pitching 126.2 innings.
Bri has a strong right arm that puts fear into opposing base runners. She has shown the ability to pick players off even with a short lead which has gotten us out of some jams this year. She works with each pitcher to call a strong game and adjusts if needed depending on what is working. She batted .444 with 4 doubles, 1 home run and had 19 runs batted in. I put my trust in her every time she takes the field.
Faith has been a player that I have depended on to play multiple positions this year. She has played 1st base, pitched and also developed into a strong 2nd baseman. She has a no fear attitude and is willing to play anywhere when needed. She recorded 34 strikeouts on the mound as well as earning 5 victories. Her defense is sound wherever she plays and she batted .333 with 3 doubles, 2 homers and 17 runs batted in.
led PHS in batting average which was vital for offense since she batted 2nd all year in front of Riley Jackson and Briana Rebman. Defensively, she gave our defense much needed versatility when she wasn’t pitching. We had numerous injuries and illness this year. Brooklyn played 3B and OF in addition to 2B and P.
Jordan is an outstanding 3rd baseman and shuts down the opposing team with her defense. Her ability to get to a ball is unmatched and her non stop hustle on the field inspires others to do the same. At the plate she is devastating to opponents with her .635 batting average, 5 doubles, 6 triples and 2 home runs. She also knocked in 19 runs while scoring 27. She was also a nightmare for them on the bases with 8 stolen bases.

Mariah’s natural ability and knowledge of the game make her a fierce competitor on the diamond. I am in all of her ability to focus on what needs to be done and her drive to be the best. She is a a quiet leader, leading by example, often seen carrying equipment, and strategizing with her coaches. She puts in the work and is truly an amazing player to watch.
Grace really turned on her game at the right time this year. She was outstanding in left field for us all year with diving catches, accurate throws as well as diving into fences. She was willing to do whatever out there to get the victories. At the plate she came alive later in the season with her 2 playoff home runs and multiple hits. I could always count on her to lay down that timely bunt for either a hit or to move the runners.
Catharine is unbelievably fast and uses that speed in both her offensive and defensive game. There is not much that will drop in centerfield and she showed her athleticism many times out there this season with either a diving catch or using her rocket right arm to nail a runner trying for an extra base. She recorded a .393 batting average with 4 extra base hits and 12 RBI. She also lead the team with 13 stolen bases.
Tori’s play in the OF was tremendous all year. She has one of our best arms on the team, sneaky range, and a fearless nose for the ball (going over the fence twice robbing HRs). Tori is only a sophomore, so we are really looking forward to seeing the complete player she can become.
Autumn is motivated and goal-oriented. She is always looking for a way to improve! Because Autumn never settles, she continues to be the best! Autumn leads the team in homeruns and has a .421 batting average. Autumn is leaving big shoes to fill and her smile and positivity will be missed!
Megan played anywhere that we needed her too this season. She never questioned why and accepted each new position as a challenge and performed well in each position. She always did what was best for the team and helped to put us in the best possible position to win. Megan also led our team in batting average (.371), hits (22), and stolen bases (6). Megan’s on base percentage was .422.
COACH OF THE YEAR NAME: PAUL TAYLOR SCHOOL: RISING SUN HIGH SCHOOL POSITION: HEAD COACH
Coach Taylor does an excellent job managing a roster full of exceptional players. With almost every player on the Tigers Roster also playing Travel Ball with other Clubs, every girl on his roster has plans to play in college after graduation and are very competitive. Keeping that roster of talent on course and focused is a tougher job than it appears. Taylor kept his team focused all year on getting to College Park for the State Championship Game. Always reminding them of the next game coming. Coach Taylor is no stranger to big championship games and playoffs. He undertands his players talents and strengths and has confidence in their abilities to do exceptional plays when needed.

Abby had another great season for us on the mound. She recorded 61 strikeouts along with 5 victories. She also had an ERA of 2.044. Her calmness on the mound gave her the ability to work through some tough situations which shows her maturity. She also played a solid 1st base for us throughout the season. Abby also provided us with some timely hitting with 3 doubles, 1 home run and knocked in 9 runs. She won 2 regional playoff games for us on the mound this year as well. I will miss Abby, her unselfishness as a player and her abilities on the mound.
Team leader in IP and ERA with a 1.45. She did a great job painting corners and mixing in her change up to keep batters off balanced. In addition to having 6 of our 8 wins, Jocelyn threw a four hit complete game vs. Patterson Mill in the playoffs, allowing two runs. Additionally, she pitched nine innings vs. Rising Sun in 4-3 defeat. Her ability to compete and be fearless against those top teams sets the tone for us in big games. Her defense in the circle and at 3B was incredible as well. Offensively, she led off for us all year, tied for the team lead in runs scored, and batted over .300 against very stiff competition. We are glad we have her for three more years.
Bri’s value is so vital to our success. She calls pitches for us and does a great job of making decisions to navigate through lineups and pitching to lighter contact since we don’t have the power pitching. She rarely lets a ball hit the backstop and has a presence that baserunners fear and respect. She batted clean up for us all year, led the team in RBis, walks, OPS, and always found a way to get the ball in play and move runners up or force the action. Striking out 4x all year is an accomplishment considering the pitching she’s faced.
Addie is an all-around athlete who has the drive to be a competitor in all of the sports she plays. After completing the basketball season, she joined the team as our 1st baseman, where she was an intricate part of our infield switching in some cases to short stop. Her versatility makes her a powerful infield threat. As a sophomore, she is an athlete to continue watching, as great things are coming for her as an all-around athlete.
Strong defensive 2nd baseman with the ability to make the impossible plays. Although she was sidelined some of the season by injuries she still made an impact on our team while she was in there. She is key to our offensive success and she batted .346 this season. She is always a threat to get on base and we count on her to get our innings started. She made an impact while she played this year and always came out to support her team when she was out. It speaks to her character and she is so easy to coach with her willingness to do whatever it takes to make us successful.
Simone is driven and focused. She makes the small adjustments which lead to a big outcome. Simone has continued to improve and hold the teams highest batting average with a .424! Looking forward to continued success from Simone on and off the field!

Sam played shortstop for us all year and held her own. She plays with so much heart and determination. She also became our lead off hitter this year with her aggressive bat. She started off many games for us this year with a hit which rallied the troops. For example the state semifinal game. She ended the season batting .345 with a home run and 8 RBI’s. Sam also had 8 stolen bases on the season along with scoring 14 runs. Sam is always willing to work hard to make the team better.
As witnessed during our Senior Night, Emily creates a team environment for winning. She inspires her teammates when necessary, even through some injuries this year, she remained an inspiration to her teammates. She made many speeches this year, encouraging us to step up and play the way she knew we could. She remains positive through all of the trails and tribulations of playing softball. Her inspiration is an asset on and off the field.
Jhaydin’s season was plagued by injury this year, but she didn’t let that stop her from having the best season possible. Jhaydin, in just 11 games hit .192 and had a .294 on base percentage
Jaden was outstanding in right field for us all year. She made every play that came to her and used her strong arm to keep base runners at bay. Her ability to track the ball was shown all season. She was a very unselfish player all year and always worked hard everyday at practice. She has a quiet determination to be her best and is a great teammate. She helped solidify our outfield this year and I look forward to another strong season from Jaden next year.
Reagan came in clutch several times for us this season. Reagan led our team in home-runs, four, and RBIs with twelve. Reagan’s batting average was .352 with a .375 on base percentage. She is a work horse and constantly works to perfect her craft. Every practice Reagan showed up looking to make herself better.
Riley played incredible defense at SS for us this year (.912 fielding %)and plays so hard. She always gets dirty, never gives up on a play, and plays with a high softball IQ. Offensively, she batted third for us all year, was 2nd on the team in batting average, led the team in stolen bases, and tied for the team lead in runs scored. Her aggressive base running style led to additional runs scored and often led into more 1st and 3rds where we could take 2nd and better offensive position.
Congratulations All County Athletes!

Unbelievable season offensively and defensively! Team leader verbally and by example. Was the offensive leader of the team w/ 30 hits, .448 batting avg, 5 HR’s, 29 RBI, and a .570 on base %. Stellar on the mound with 8 wins and 105 K’s in 63.2 innings.
We have been together as coach and player for many years. You have really grown as a player and took the reigns as the ace of our staff this year. Whenever we had a big game you stepped up and met the challenge head on. It was a pleasure to have coached you. Congratulations on your success and the best of luck at McDaniel College.
Intense competitor! Had a high on base % leading the team in walks/HBP with 23. Major offensive contributor during deep play-off run. Undefeated on the mound during the regular season (finished 6-1). Team best 1.02 ERA.
Was an unconventional lead-off hitter with his associated power stats. (25 RBI). He controlled the running game defensively picking 11 runners off base from behind the plate. A workhorse, catching every inning, contributing greatly to the team’s 1.69 ERA.
We were so glad that you came back to Bo for your senior year. You made a huge impact on our team. Your constant joking and topics of conversation always had us laughing. I wish you the best of luck at Cecil and in the future.
Zach Congratulations on making All County for 2022! Your work ethic both on and off the field is something special to watch. You are a gifted athlete that wants to get better every day. Thank you for being coachable and willing to do whatever it takes to better the team. Your winning attitude will only continue to grow and be a role model for the younger guys. Congrats!! Coach Davis

Very productive hitter in the 3 hole. Led the team in doubles and had a .511 on base % .Captain of the infield with a strong arm at the shortstop position. Went undefeated on the mound (3-0).
What a hard worker and tough nosed player you are. You did whatever you could to help us win a game. A lot of that was all the bases you stole this year! Keep working hard and best of luck to you at Ursinus.
Daniel it was a pleasure watching you play these last 4 years. You are truly a gifted athlete. I am proud to say that you truly modeled our culture and mission statement both on the field and off. Watching you make play after play in Centerfield was awesome. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors at Towson University in the fall. Congratulations on making All County for 2022! You will be missed. Coach Davis
Mason it was a pleasure watching you grow through our program these last 4 years. Your dedication to the team and the sport was top notch. You were our MVP this year for your Offense, Pitching, and Leadership. I wish you the best as you continue playing at Hood College in the fall. Congratulations on making All County for 2022! He led the team in hitting. He was a great baserunner and is able to get great jumps off of pitchers. He had a massive home run in our playoff game. I am excited for him and can’t wait to see him play at Towson.

Junior attackman Vinnie Muscella was the anchor to the Panther offense this season. Muscella manufactured over 80 points in 2022, using his size and stick skills to make the back of the goal a common locale for his shots. Muscella was usually the primary focus for opposing teams to defend and many times found himself being double-teamed in the attempt to slow his production. Rarely, was that strategy successful. Vinnie returns in 2023 to build upon his high school achievements.
55g 33a 44 ground balls (gbs) - X attacker that controlled the tempo of the offense. Always guarded by the other team’s best defender, consistent scorer, with good vision, dodger that could finish in traffic. Dangerous on the ride, often causing turnover before they ball could be cleared.
Milward has a great shot, is tough and relentless on rides, always on the loose ground balls and moves well with the ball always looking for the open teammate. All this showed with 23 Goals, 59 ground balls and 16 assists. Milward has a keen understanding of where to be and when to be there. This stems from his transition from goalie to attack which brought a great understanding of the game and what defenses were giving his team. He has a great lacrosse IQ.
Senior middie Evan Miller was the heart and soul of the Panthers this season. Evan is a four-year letterman who’s leadership skills have helped to develop the winning culture at Perryville. His work ethic, on and off the field, made him role-model for others on the team to follow. His leadership on offense and his ability find the back of the net from 15-20 yards made him a threat every time he touched the ball.
Jacob joined the team as a Freshman and asserted his dominance on the offensive side of the field immediately. Over his 4 years at Elkton, Jacob has been a quiet leader both on and off the field. This year he fought through injuries which unfortunately cut his season short although he remained a leader on the team by helping to coach the young guys. Through the first 5 games Jacob accounted for 12 goals and 3 assists. Thank you for everything Jacob, and best of luck!
19g, 9a, 32gbs. Junior midfielder that controlled the flow of the game from the midfield position. Gannon was a big scorer, dodger and defender with a cannon for an outside shot. Can go right or left hand, each is as potent as the other. Gannon did whatever it took to win the game. If we needed a big goal, crucial ground ball, or a change of pace, Gannon was the guy that made it happen.

Since joining the team as a Freshman, Tyson has been the center of the Elkton defense. He plays his heart out between every whistle and leads his team after the whistle. Over the years he has been a disruptor to opponents’ offenses due to his tenacity. This year he has accounted for 80 ground balls, 30+ deflections, 50 caused turnovers, 25 faceoffs won, 2 goals, and 5 assists. Elkton Lacrosse would like to thank you for everything and wish you the best of luck.
Junior defenseman Kurt Vaughn was a dominant defender for the Panthers this season with his quickness and persistence of denying many offensive players any opportunity of getting the ball in the Panther’s goal. Kurt also exhibited diversity in the role of a long stick middie when needed but in most cases, he assumed the role as the anchor to the stingy Panther defense. Kurt returns in 2023 to build upon his achievements as a long stick defenseman.
Ben was a stalwart on defense. He was an aggressive player and was a team leader in caused turnovers. He was a leader on defense and defended the best attackmen on the field at all times. Ben did anything that was asked of him and was a leader on and off the field.
5g, 4a, 76gbs. Guarded the team’s best offensive threat each game. Plays great solo D and team D. Was always our slide, double teamer, and our “Island” player. He also played man up offense on occasion, always on our Man Down D. Plays great position D with lightning fast, accurate checks.
Colton was a fantastic faceoff player. He was a game changer for us and allowed us to stay competitive in our games. He had a faceoff pct of 46% and led our team in ground balls. He was also a force to be reckoned with on offense.
Richardson is a phenomenal goalie, and that’s the attribute for which he’s probably most known. But the senior does plenty of other things for the Indians. His athleticism allowed him to be extremely effective in the clearing game tallying 5 assists. His tenacity allowed him to amass 53 ground balls. And his leadership showed in molding a tough and disciplined close defense. All of this while amassing 271 saves with a 67% save average. He will continue to play at DII Mars Hill.

During his senior season he faced a few really tough matches and finished with 11 wins and 4 loses. As team Captain, he led the team by example with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and persistence. All of his hard work paid off with a 1A East Regional Title and competing in the State Tennis Tournament.
Nathan was our solid guys singles player for a couple of years. He was #1 singles for his senior year and had a winning season with a 10/6 record. Many of his matches were very long and close and Nathan always played hard until the final point was played. One of his best matches was one that he beat a player that he previously lost to. He always had a positive attitude going into his match. When Nathan was not playing, he was cheering on his team mates and rallying his team. He was also a strong leader of the team and was always willing to step up and do whatever needed to be done.
Alaina Foran, only a sophomore played singles for the first time in her tennis career. Seeded as the first girls singles she was matched against the best lady tennis players in the Chesapeake Division. Alaina played every matched for the Indians at the first singles spot, never backing down from an opponent with many more years of experience. Her resume includes an overall record of 7-12. She ended the season 5-2 against Cecil County opponents, and was the Regional Champion in the girl’s singles event. Alaina Foran advanced all the way to the state semifinals.
Aaliyah Rodriguez (senior) went undefeated at girl’s singles during the regular season and won the girls singles championship at the UCBAC Susquehanna Division Tennis Tournament. She’s a hard worker and her determination has paid off in multiple personal records in the Mile and the 3200 this season. In the Mile, she’s earned 6th in the region. In the 3200, she’s earned 3rd in the region and 14th overall at States with a personal record of 12:28.86.
Junior Carly McCardell brings her spark and leadership to our track & field team. She is a successful sprinter and pole vaulter. This year, with many new athletes joining our team, there was a lot of competition for that coveted spot on our 4x100 team. Carly is very good at running the curve and secured her spot on the team with confidence. Her positivity and perseverance make her an asset to our team.
Best time in the county in the 100, 5th best in the 200, Best long jumper in the county, was the region champion in the long jump and finished 7th in that event at the state championships.
Lily has been a familiar face in pole vault competitions. She has been a multiple time County and Regional championship medalist, and Lily finally stood on the podium as a 3rd place medalist at this year’s State meet. As a contributor in many other events, Lily did whatever was asked if her to assist her team.

COACH’S NOTE:
COACH’S NOTE:
After a strong indoor season, Brin continued her dominance in the high jump, earning county, conference, and region titles en route to qualifying for States. In addition to high jump, she also qualified for States in the discus. Brin’s success is a testament to her hard work and determination and a model for her teammates. Next year will bring new heights and greater successes in both events.
Jada Obegi is one of the most spirited, positive athletes on our team! Her dedication to the throws has earned her an UCBAC title in Shot Put and top rankings at the Regional and State meets. She threw her way to second in Shot Put and Discus at our regional meet and made her way to the podium at states, earning 8th in Discus (93-05) and 4th in Shot Put (33-02). She’ll be attending Wilmington University in the fall for Track & Field.
ATHLETE OF THE YEAR NAME: GRADE: SCHOOL: EVENTS:
ANNA RANDO SENIOR PERRYVILLE HIGH SCHOOL HURDLES, SPRINTER
COACH’S NOTE: Anna capped off a remarkable career where she finished in medal position over 50 times in a sprint, hurdle, or relay event. The last two years, Anna has made her name in her speciality the hurdles, where she finished in 3rd place at the State meet in 2020. Anna will be remembered as one of Perryville’s bests ever sprinter/hurdlers, but more so for her infectious smile and caring and compassionate attitude toward all of her teammates and competitors. “What more could a coach ask for,” stated Coach Moore. “If we could duplicate Anna the person, Anna the student, Anna the athlete, we’d do it in a heartbeat! What she brought to our program is immeasurable. She will be missed greatly.” Anna plans to continue her academic and athletic career at McDaniel College.

COACH’S NOTE:
Junior Amanda (Mandy) Callaghan is our highest scoring female athlete. Mandy qualified for states in the 400, 800, 4x400 and 4x800. She was the 800 meter champion in the Susquehanna Division, the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference (UCBAC) and the 2A East Region. Our 4x800 team came in 2nd at states, and the 4x400 team broke our school record. Mandy is always encouraging to teammates and a joy to coach.
Katie Callaghan is one of our Rookies of the Year. She was the 400 meter champion both in Cecil County as well as the 2A East Region. She also won the 800 at the Cecil County Championship meet. She qualified for states in the 400, 4x400, and 4x800. Katie is willing to try any event and was not only a successful runner, but did well in triple jump, too. Katie was the Susquehanna Division Champ in the triple jump. She is a huge benefit to our team.
Katelyn is a sophomore with tons of grit and perseverance. She is fierce and competitive on the soccer field as well as on the track. She always runs the race she is in; not worrying so much about times and PRs, but truly racing against her competitors. That is a skill that cannot be taught - it has to come from within. While she prefers the 400 meter dash, coaches are pushing her in the direction of the 800 because she has an engine that just won’t quit.
Savannah has come a long way not only with fitness and skill but also with confidence. Savannah worked her way onto the 4x800 team and earned her spot on the #2 4x800 team in the state. She has a giggle that is contagious. Even when she feels miserable and wants to quit, she’s quick with a laugh (“Hey, I just puked, but I think I’m good to go again.”) and eager to do her best for the sake of the team. Savannah is a leader by example and a very strong and special part of our team.
Anna capped off a remarkable high school track career where she finished in medal position over 50 times in a sprint, hurdle, or relay event. The last two years, Anna has made her name in her speciality the hurdles, where she finished in 3rd place at the State meet in 2020.
Ella is a senior who will really miss next year however we know she is onto bigger and better things! She was the County Champion in the 100 Hurdles. Ella attacks the hurdles and approaches all of her events with 100% effort and determination. She plans to attend Embry Riddle University and study aeronautical engineering. In her graduation speech, she gave several nods to the track team and hurdles - which was greatly appreciated and well received.

COACH’S NOTE:
Sytieia Brown is one of the most focused, dedicated, hardworking athletes. Driven to meet her personal goals in the throws, she’s consistently earned wins and titles in Shot Put and Discus since her freshman year. Her season bests are 37-8.5 in Shot Put and 110-9 in Discus. She’s not only a threat in the throws, but she’s a powerhouse in the 100, 200 sprints and the 4x100 girls relay.
Caroline was a Rookie of the Year last year and has continued to shine this year, too. Caroline broke the school record in the discus this year, and qualified for states in the shot put, discus, and 4x100 relay. Caroline tried the hurdles on a whim, and ended the season with one of the team’s top hurdle times. Caroline can be put in any event and find success. We are very excited to see her future in high school and beyond.
