WELCOME
It has been a very busy couple of months, starting with an invite to Malaga from Caterpillar (and the slightly less grand Leicester) that I am looking forward to cashing in, which arose after meeting with them at a continental demolition convention.
And the month ended with the superb Molson Open Day a week or so ago.
We seem to have made quite the impact as over the past week I have been inundated with invites to events held by Blue Group, CAT/Finning, Sennebogen, CASE and Volvo falling into my inbox so it will come as no surprise that it will be another busy period as we bring you up to date with what the manufacturers are up to and what those that supply the industry offer.
Going back to the open day with our friends from Molson, I must thank James Dodkins for recognising how far we have come in three years, becoming established as a known and liked publication in the construction equipment sector.
It was yet another brilliant day (we also attended 18 months ago) and we have lots of footage with a video imminent including brands such as Kobelco, RokBak and Hyundai.
In this issue, the Business Insider interview is with Guy Nicholls, CEO of Tru7 Group. I was invited over to Sinks Pit a few weeks ago and finally met THE man in plant. If video is more your thing, you can watch the full video on our Diggers LIVE YouTube account here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgaS1UX6dn0.
We have included an ample review of this year’s sun baked Plantworx as well as a finance feature, telehandlers feature and all the usual industry news that we have gathered since the last issue.

Liebherr invests €170m in new Alsace production site
On Wednesday 21 June, Liebherr officialised the 2025 investment plans of Liebherr-France SAS, responsible for the development and production of the Liebherr Group’s crawler excavators. The group will stake 170 million euros for the purchase of a 47-ha industrial site in the EcoRhena industrial park in Nambsheim in France, creating more than 300 jobs.
For several years, Liebherr-France SAS has been planning to relocate certain activities to the vicinity of its existing manufacturing site in Colmar in order to further strengthen both its competitiveness and its independence in the long term.
Against this background, Liebherr decided to purchase a site in the EcoRhena industrial park in order to establish a new location for its Colmar production company there. The industrial park is under the responsibility of a French special-purpose association (Syndicat Mixte Ouvert), which also manages the Rhine port of Colmar/ Neuf-Brisach.
With the support of the Syndicat Mixte Ouvert, Liebherr-France SAS acquired the land, which with its proximity to the existing Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar, the Swiss and German borders and a multimodal transport centre, offers the ideal location.
Two production activities: welded components and assembly work on driver’s cabs
One production area will be dedicated to the production of welded parts for Liebherr’s construction machinery portfolio, such as crawler and mobile excavators. These include components of the chassis or work equipment. This area will offer a wide range of technical professions including in the fields of welding, machining and plant engineering.
A second production area is planned for pre-assembly and assembly work on driver’s cabs for Liebherr construction machinery. Here, jobs will be created in the fields of assembly and logistics.
Steelwrist receives Sweden’s Best Managed Companies award for fourth consecutive year
Steelwrist, the global manufacturer of tiltrotators, quick couplers and work tools for excavators, has received the Sweden’s Best Managed Companies recognition for four years in a row, and is therefore a gold member. The recognition is sponsored by Deloitte.
Best Managed Companies is a quality award given to private Swedish companies based on criteria that assess strategic direction, operational capacity, corporate culture and financial development.
Stefan Stockhaus, Steelwrist CEOsaid: “This award is again the result of the massive effort by the Steelwrist team around the world. We are now present in 19 countries but we still maintain our very specific Steelwrist culture within the company. We feel that we are extremely well positioned for the future and it is with great pride that we receive this gold level Best Managed Companies recognition.”
Therese Kjellberg, partner at Deloitte and responsible for Best Managed Companies in Sweden said: “This year,
we welcome five companies as gold members after receiving the award four years in a row. It’s inspiring to see so many companies continue to invest and strive towards their goals.”
Best Managed Companies was founded by Deloitte in Canada in 1993 and has since been established in more than 20 countries worldwide. Sweden’s Best Managed Companies was launched in 2018 by Deloitte, and this year marks the fifth time the award has been presented.
Warwick Ward makes move to employee ownership
Warwick Ward (machinery) Ltd was founded in 1970 by Mr Warwick Ward and has grown into one of the largest stockists and suppliers of new and used earthmoving and material recycling equipment and spare parts in Europe. Partnering with premium brands CASE Construction Equipment, TEREX Ecotec, KEESTRACK crushing and screening equipment and more recently TEREX Recycling Systems, the company provides outstanding aftersales support via a dedicated nationwide service team and depots in the north, the Midlands and the south.
The company has recently announced that it has joined an ever-increasing list of UK companies to make the transition to being employee owned. As a result, employees of Warwick Ward will all profit individually from the future success of the company and benefit from representation on the board of trustees. No jobs are at risk as a result of the transition and both owners will continue to take an active role in the business.
Ashley Ward, joint Managing Director at Warwick Ward, said: “This is an incredibly exciting new chapter for Warwick Ward (machinery) Ltd as we approach our 54th year of trading. Over the past six years or so my brother and I have been working on a succession plan for the future of the business and after a lot of research and consideration we feel that the EOT model is a perfect fit for both the business, our brand partners and for ourselves. It provides motivation for the staff, stability and continuity and ensures the legacy of Warwick Ward continues in the way we want it to.
“Over a substantial period of time, we have worked hard to put in place a fantastic senior leadership team in Simon Causier (Commercial Director), Matthew Godhard (Operations Director) and Russell Holmes (Finance Director), who are pivotal and responsible for the day-today running of the business. Matt and I continue to work closely with the senior team during this transition.
“The EOT model is incredibly exciting
and motivational for all our driven and dedicated team as they are now all employee owners in the business, have representation on the trust board and will profit individually from the future success of the company.”
Simon Causier, Commercial Director at Warwick Ward, said: “Having now been part of the management team for the last 15 years, it has been an exciting and successful journey for the company over that period. The way the business has evolved and grown over recent times has been phenomenal and everyone at Warwick Ward has a huge amount of pride in the company and utmost respect for Matt and Ashley and how they have strategically shaped the business since taking over from their father 23 years ago.
“The transition to being an EOT is a fantastic and exciting opportunity for all the staff and senior management team to now play a pivotal role in the future success and continued growth of Warwick Ward and we are all thrilled at the opportunities that lie ahead.”
BUSINESS INSIDER
Truth be told
For this issue’s Business Insider interview, Ben Chambers spoke to CEO of Suffolk construction plant conglomerate, Tru7 Group, Guy Nicholls. The full interview can be seen on Diggers LIVE TV.
QHow have the interest rate rises affected you over the last eight months?
Oh, dreadfully. Everything was going along great post COVID. We closed for three and a half weeks, then once they agreed that builders weren’t retailers, and they could open, it just took off. It was fantastic. Perhaps too busy in some ways. Our business has grown 40% year on year for the last four years. And then this year, the bank rate has just killed things and we’re just OK.
The problem I have, I only work at one speed and that’s flat out. Working at half speed, I really struggle to get motivated. We’re still very busy as a company, but we miss the last 5-7%, which is the margin.
QSix years ago, you went into demolition when you acquired Clarke Demolition
I grew up with the Clarke brothers. I went to school with two of them. My father was friendly with Mr Clarke senior, who
started in 1953. They got in a pickle a few times and I lent them money and in the end I thought next time they get in a pickle I’m going to buy it. So we did, and I’m glad we did.
David Clarke, the former owner of the business who’s still with us as managing director, is a really good guy, a very smart chap who can go to meetings at the highest level. The only problem was when we bought the business, it couldn’t spell profit, so we had to give it a little bit of special treatment. But it’s been it’s been great having demolition as part of what we do. It fits in with our recycling business.
QWhat products do you have and what is your range?
We were in a serious discussion about this, this morning. A friend of mine, a big demolition company from South Essex called Downwell, they’re on some of the most fantastic tender lists. They do a lot of work for Transport for London, Crossrail, all these other great things. So I think we
just need to look a little bit further. This year being a little bit quiet has actually given us a bit of a kick up the arse.
My son Jake’s in the business with me now. Obviously I’m not going to live forever and he wouldn’t want me to, I’m sure. It’s going to be his when I peg out, so he’s got to wear many hats.
QIt really is a story of three generations. Your father Percy started up the businesses in 1964 and you as a nipper were following him about...
The family were from Yarmouth in Norfolk originally and after the war there were 13 brothers and sisters. My father was a wheeler and dealer. He lived on a farm with his older brother and sister and when he was 13 or 14 he had to go to work and that’s how it was. And I was brought up the same. I always remember mum saying: “We’ve got to take these kids on holiday,” and my dad said: “Holidays are things other people have.”
I have to say I’ve taken that from him, my poor wife, I hardly ever go away with her, that will change a bit when I’m 60. The poor girl’s suffered with me for 44 years, but we’re still happily married.
We closed the business for three and a half weeks because of COVID, I was dreading that somebody had taken it home, then I thought I was going lose my business.
When we sold Fork Rent seven and a half years ago, I invested the money with UBS. Two weeks later I was told: “Your investments have dropped by over a third, do you want to sell everything?”
“No I don’t,” I said. “We want to be buying. I’m not selling it. There’s too much work gone into this.”
My wife said to me: “You’ll be 57 next month, don’t you think it’s time you start taking it easy and take some money out of the tin? Let’s go buy a house on Lake Como.”
Well after being at home for three and a half weeks then coming back to work,
one thing became apparent very quickly, I will never retire. And even going to Lake Como later that summer when we were allowed to travel, what you’d get for five million quid was not worth buying anyway. So both things were back to normal service very quickly.
Jake’s here now and I’ve got a great right-hand man in Tony Marshall, who’s worked with me for 24 years.
QTell us about Jake
He did the motocross World Championship for 11 years. There was never any sign of him coming to work for us, he wouldn’t even come to the yard. And then all of a sudden he had a bad injury and a week later announced he’d love to come to work if that was all right with me.
He dislocated his hip quite badly. It was just one of those transitional moments in life for him, I guess. I think he likes the work even more than I do now.
QIs it a similar relationship to that you had with your father?
No, very different. I was with my dad every day after school, from when I was just about old enough to remember, shortly after nappies. He always had new Mercedes cars, the one thing he did spend a few quid on. I have a similar trait, I love cars. But I’d get so grubby I had to sit in the boot to go home. My mother used to say: “How did you manage to get him this grubby?” He said: “I didn’t get him this grubby, that’s him poking about.” And I had every school holiday with him apart from one when I was 14, which he reminded me of the day before he died.
He used to shout and argue all day long, then come home at night and have another argument and tell me where I’d gone wrong all day. But the relationship I have with Jake is very different. We’ve never had an argument since he came to work for us. With my dad, whatever I did was never any good or good enough. That was his way of making me try harder.
My father got into plant hire by accident. Arthur Clarke, the founder of Clarke Demolition, had a plant hire business and my father was a wheeler dealer, buying lorries and plant. He phoned Arthur Clarke, agreed a price for something and Clarke said: “Can’t I piss you about now, you’re out of your depth with that lot.” And my father’s immediate
response was “Arthur you’ve just put me in the hire business.”
Everything we’ve ever taken on started as an absolute balls up. We got into tippers by accident because a local company aggravated us. We got into concrete because another local concrete/ aggregate supplier aggravated us. And that’s how we’ve always gone. I think, if I’m angry I’m at my worst... I’m at my most dangerous in business when someone pisses me off. Fortunately, it’s the old saying “Find a job you enjoy doing and you will never have to work a day in your life.” [Misattributed to various intellectual giants including Confucius in c500 BCE, Mark Twain (1835-1910) and in recent years, American salsa singer Marc Anthony].
I’ve never worked a day in my life.
QYou’re very hands on. Are you here every day?
I love it. I don’t get here very early in the morning. That’s one thing. My wife and I have got opposite timeclocks. I can be up all night watching TV, but she’ll be up at five o’clock every morning. My dad made me go to work at half six. I never liked it.
Five or six years after he died, the business grew quite big quite quickly. He didn’t like employing people, which is fine, but you restrict how much you can grow a business. But I don’t get here until nine o’clock in the morning. I’m awake at
half-five, doing emails at half-six, talking to people at seven o’clock. I never close. I’m on 24/7, and that’ll always be like that.
QTell me about the number seven (Tru7)
It was my father’s lucky number.
He was very superstitious and all the vehicles he ever bought, new trucks or vans to rent out, he’d always tell the dealer: “Make sure that number plate doesn’t add up to 13.” He’d make it so clear to them. And the number of times people delivered a vehicle and he’d say: “What did I tell you about the number plate? It adds up to 13.” Whatever it was, he wouldn’t have it.
But his lucky number was seven. So that’s why it’s called Tru7. Trucks R Us 7.
And I think: “Has it been my lucky number?” I don’t know if I’ve had a lucky number, really. Even when things are off, I’ve only got one speed. I do like being flat out. I have a wage that pays my household bills every month, everything else gets reinvested into the business. That’s how we buy more trucks.
QI’ve just seen the brand new Volvo dumpers and an awful lot of Thwaites dumpers as well
I can confidently say we’ve got the youngest fleet in the UK; if anybody wants to challenge me on that, they’re
“Seven was my father’s lucky number”
more than welcome to. Our oldest eightwheel tipper is a ’22 plate, our oldest mixer, having its first test today, has already been sold and replaced. We’ve got a few 2020 plate diggers left because of supply chain issues.
The manufacturers are all being very greedy with price increases. We’ll see where that one goes in the next few months. I think we’re in for some big decreases, and there needs to be. I think there’s going to be some contractors who won’t see the end of the year, who are unfortunately victims of circumstances, by which I mean how materials have risen. Cement went up 19, 20 quid a tonne again on the first of March. If contractors are on fixed price deals with house builders, they’re going to suffer unfortunately.
QA couple of years ago I invited you to the British Demolition Awards. Can you remember your reply?
Yeah: “Why would I want to be in a room with a crowd of people who are going to tell me load of lies?” But seriously, we’re very fortunate. We’ve got some lovely friends in demolition who we rent equipment and sell stuff to.
QWhat is the plan for Tru7 group and indeed Guy Nicholls? You tell me what the bank rate will be next year and I’ll tell you what the business plan is.
Now Jake is here, he’s only 33 years old and I actually think he’s even keener than I am, when I die he’ll have the business. And he doesn’t even like cars. Up until recently he drove a 30-year-old Toyota pickup.
I could live the rest of my life never going any further than backwards and forwards three miles to work, which is why you don’t see me at events. I just like being here.
We had our county show last week, sponsored it and put a stand on and all that goes with it. So I know the value of events. It’s nice to meet people. Whether or not I’ll go there for half a day next year, I don’t know. I just don’t like getting too far away from the job.
I love the construction industry. I’ve met some great people in this job. We’ve got 350 people at Tru7, or thereabouts. There’s all sorts and we’ve got a great team of people in that circle of trust. They’re all important to us.
QWe’ve heard a lot about business, but tell me about Guy. What’s your thing?
Do you know what? I still get excited seeing a new lorry or a new digger coming down the drive. I can remember when I was a kid, my dad had his first forklift and it went out on hire to a sheet metal fabricator. It came back after a month looking like it was 10 years old and he actually cried. But you just become hardened to the damage. We employ 350 people now so we damage our own gear every day, let alone third parties doing it. I just love the work. Can’t get enough of it.
QYou’re involved in a lot of charities, is that important to you? My father was always of a mind that we’re not oil barons or film stars but we’ve done all right; you’ve got to give something back. I’m very much like my father in most ways, not in every way, and we do it every year. We normally give one or two hundred grand a year away and now we’re trying to do it on a more local basis.
So now we’re just going to pick one individual thing to do. We’re going to have a BMX track built for the area we live in, Kesgrave, just outside Ipswich. It’s surprising how little can help people so much, it really is.

Molson Open Day 2023
by Ben ChambersDodkins, not missing out on any of the impressive equipment, services and technology that Molson is rapidly rolling out and offering to the industry.
After an interesting in-depth tour we were free to roam and from the off I had my name being shouted across the yard as the demolition fraternity had begun to make its presence felt. My old mate and Managing Director of Total Reclaims Demolition, Melvyn Cross, spotted me and we were able to catch up, followed swiftly by an engaging industryspecific chat with Richard Dolman from AR Demolition.
On 20 June we were invited to the second Molson Group Open Day at its Avonmouth facility.
This was an opportunity for Molson to show off an elite range of construction equipment, all shined up, aesthetically positioned and ready for buyers to check them out.
Molson Group, the UK’s largest, independent new and used equipment dealer, offers a customer- focused approach and days like this where it can show off its range of options as a single source opportunity are testament to this.
This the second open day, following a very successful one some 18 months ago. It was set up similarly to the last one (if it ain’t broke…), but with the addition of OEMs such as Husqvarna that Molson has recently taken on being offered more space at the Avonmouth facility.
I was with the press group for day one, not usually my thing as I like to mix with the buyers and brands rather than enthusiasts and photographers, but it didn’t affect my day. We kicked off with a 90 minute headset tour of the entire facility by Marketing Manager, James
It was then time for my traditional laugh and joke with my global friend (I’ve met her in at least five countries this year), Allessia from MB Crusher; the friendly gang from RokBak and demolition robot experts Husqvarna for a demonstration and a bit of marketing planning.
I am not in a position to buy any construction equipment, apart perhaps from obtaining something put together by Gaz Evans at 1/50 scale for the office. I am not a buyer, I merely work within the realms of construction publications and from my point of view you cannot get a better way to demonstrate what you have on offer and what these products can do than in person, allowing the buyer to get expert advice on what they are purchasing.
The extra touches such as the plethora of food stands offering delights such as Japanese street food, ice cream and burgers for free don’t hurt either.
Spot on job Molson. I am sure the day was as successful for you as it was enjoyable for Joe and me; thank you for looking after us.
Watch the video we put together, coming soon on Diggers LIVE TV on YouTube.

TELEHANDLERS
JCB 525 goes all electric
The JCB 525-60E is the first fully electric version of the popular JCB Loadall. Designed to deliver the same performance as the conventional dieselpowered machine, the 525-60E offers a zero-emissions load handling solution to construction, industrial and agricultural customers.
The 525-60E has been designed to meet the current and future needs of customers in a variety of sectors, providing zero-emissions operation for working inside buildings, in underground construction and maintenance work and in urban areas with stringent emissions regulations, such as London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).
The machine has the same onboard charger as other JCB E-TECH products, capable of recharging the battery in eight hours using a standard 240V, 16A electrical supply. An optional JCB Universal Charger can be used for a rapid top-up in as little as 35 minutes.
A secondary benefit of electric operation is a significant reduction in noise levels, making the Loadall suitable for extended operation in sensitive urban job sites. The 525-60E delivers an in-cab noise level of just 66.7 dB, while the external level is 92.2 dB. A white noise reversing alarm is available as an option.
The full-size ROPS/FOPS cab is well laid out and designed for fatigue-free operation, with easily located controls. The fully glazed cab has a 2.2 kW heater, heated front, rear and side screens for rapid defrosting and demisting and a heated suspension seat, ensuring the operator is comfortable regardless of outside temperature. The 525-60E also uses JCB’s well proven and patented Load
Control System, ensuring optimum safe load handling.
External dimensions are unchanged from the diesel model and the 525-60E offers the same 3.7-m outside turn radius. Maximum lift capacity is 2,500 kg, with a 2,000-kg maximum load at the full sixmetre lift height. The machine has been designed to deliver similar cycle times as the diesel telescopic, with no loss of performance. It can be used with forks, a range of buckets and many other JCB Loadall attachments.
The 525-60E uses two proven electric motors, one for the driveline and the second to power the hydraulic system. The 17 kW traction motor drives through a permanent four-wheel drive dropbox, to proven JCB drive/steer axles. The 22 kW hydraulic system motor powers a fixed displacement gear pump, delivering
a maximum 80 L/min flow. Flow is proportional to joystick position and the lift end is controlled by an electrohydraulic valve block, with hydraulic regeneration on boom lower and retract.
The electric motors are 85% efficient, which compares well with the 45% efficiency of a diesel engine. The 96 V lithium-ion battery, is capable of full-shift operation.
The traction drive motor utilises regenerative braking instead of a traditional braking system. The hydraulic system also regenerates flow while lowering the boom, reducing the power requirement and extending operating hours. The brake regen function automatically turns off when the battery is fully charged.
Key features:
• Dual electric motors for drive and lift deliver increased efficiency
• Brake regeneration boosts battery charge
• Regenerative hydraulics increase efficiency
• Full shift operation capability
• Range of charging options, including on-board and rapid charging

FINANCE FEATURE
Heavy equipment finance demystified
by Dave Cummings, Head of Asset Finance, SwoopHeavy equipment finance
Benefits of heavy equipment finance
1. Lower tax costs
By opting for heavy equipment finance, businesses can reduce their tax burden. Financing loans allow the equipment to appear as an asset on the balance sheet, enabling depreciation over time and claiming interest and fees as deductible expenses. Finance leases often allow the entire monthly payment to be claimed against tax as a business expense, providing additional tax advantages.
2. Lower risk for construction businesses
Construction businesses often face seasonal volatility, making heavy equipment purchases risky. Heavy equipment finance allows these businesses to spread the cost over time, preserving capital and mitigating uncertainties caused by seasonal variations. Lease payments
In the competitive world of heavy equipment, businesses face a crucial decision when it comes to acquiring the necessary machinery: heavy equipment finance or heavy equipment lease? Each presents its own considerations. To make an informed choice that aligns with your business’s unique circumstances, it’s essential to understand the benefits of both financing and leasing. Before delving into the advantages of heavy equipment finance, let’s clarify the distinction between the two options.
With heavy equipment finance, businesses obtain a loan to purchase the equipment. The advantages include building equity, ownership of the asset at the end of the contract, depreciation benefits, no limitations on equipment usage and the ability to use the equipment as collateral for future loans. However, higher monthly payments and potential challenges in disposing of the equipment at the end of its lifecycle are aspects to consider.
Heavy equipment lease:
On the other hand, heavy equipment lease involves a long-term rental arrangement. Businesses pay for the use of the equipment without building equity. Advantages include lower upfront payments, usually lower monthly payments compared to finance loans, potential maintenance and insurance responsibilities on the lender’s side and the option to return the equipment at the end of the lease or exercise a purchase option. However, limitations on usage and wear and tear, as well as the absence of equitybuilding are factors to be aware of.
can be aligned with the equipment’s productivity, providing further risk management.
3. Access to capital
Many businesses, especially smaller organisations, lack the necessary capital to invest in expensive heavy machinery. Heavy equipment finance bridges this gap, providing access to crucial capital that may be challenging to acquire from investors or shareholders.
4.
Financing used heavy equipment
The market for used heavy equipment is thriving, and businesses can secure financing for both new and used machinery. Expert equipment finance brokers such as Swoop, have access to funds for purchasing or leasing major pieces of plant and machinery, opening up opportunities for businesses to obtain the equipment they need.
Choice of finance partners

Removing the barriers to accessing the diggers you need
by Justin Amos, Managing Director Millbrook Business FinanceThe cost-of-living crisis in the UK has come as bad news for small business owners, especially following on the back of the pandemic. The sluggish economy and tightened lending conditions have made it particularly challenging when construction businesses have needed to purchase new diggers or related equipment.
The issue is compounded by the fact that budgets are often tight due to economic conditions, making it difficult for SMEs to purchase the right machinery for their needs. Fortunately, there are options available to help SMEs tackle the challenge of funding equipment they need to boost efficiencies and maintain competitive advantage during the cost-of-living crisis.
One such option is business finance, which can provide a more affordable way to purchase new diggers and other equipment. Business finance works by allowing businesses to spread the cost of their purchases over an agreed period, protecting working capital, making them more manageable and helping SMEs save money in the long run.
It also gives businesses access to competitive rates of interest – even if they have a poor credit rating – so that their purchase becomes more affordable. Not only that, but a business finance specialist will also search the market for you and manage every step of a finance application process, saving valuable time and reducing stress.
Millbrook Business Finance is one option for SMEs seeking business finance
solutions. With its highly experienced team, Millbrook can provide tailored asset finance solutions. Additionally, by offering flexible repayment terms, Millbrook can ensure businesses are not overburdened with large payments or high interest charges, allowing them to focus on growing and developing their business instead.
Ultimately, using business finance is an effective way for SMEs to access the machinery they need without breaking the bank. If your business needs to update its equipment and machinery but is not sure how to fund it, Millbrook Business Finance can help you save money and access the machinery you need for your construction business.

Your next option for plant funding
by Anton Nebbe, Head of PR and Communications, Close Brothers Asset FinanceAsset finance is for many firms in the plant and wider construction sector a form of funding they have used for many years. Yet for others it’s not something they know much about. In this article we take a closer look at the different products and understand why it could be the perfect option when considering your next purchase.
In short, asset finance is an alternative form of funding used by businesses to obtain the equipment they need to grow or access much needed cash. Asset finance makes the otherwise unaffordable affordable because it gives businesses access to the equipment they need without incurring the cashflow disadvantage of an outright purchase.
Agreements can also be customised to the business’s needs, with flexibility on both the term and repayment schedule.
There are various products that come under the broad umbrella of asset finance, with one of the key ones being refinancing or capital release as it’s also known. This is a proven way to make your assets work for you and release cash back into the business.
It’s pretty straightforward and works by the finance company purchasing the asset and financing it back to you, with repayments calculated in line with the income the asset is expected to generate; at the end of the refinance term, you own the asset.
This offers several great benefits to a business that just needs a cash injection, whether it’s for investment in additional business critical assets or to use in other areas of the business, including unexpected bills
and invoices, salaries, VAT payments, or diversification – the uses are almost endless. Funders can also look to take over a finance agreement with another provider and extend the term, ultimately reducing monthly payments and easing the pressure on cashflow.
Other examples of asset finance products are:
• Hire purchase (HP) allows you to buy the equipment on credit. The finance company purchases the asset on your behalf and owns the asset until the final instalment is paid, at which point you are given the option to buy it.
• Finance lease: The full value of the equipment is repaid to the finance company, plus interest, over the lease period. At the end of the term, you can choose to:
- continue to use the asset by entering a secondary rental period,
- sell the asset and keep a portion of the income from the sale,
- return it.
• Operating lease: Similar to a finance lease, an operating lease allows you to
rent the asset from the asset funder while you need it. The key difference between the two is that an operating lease is only for part of the asset’s useful life. This means you pay a reduced rental because the cost is based on the difference between the asset’s original purchase price and its residual value at the end of the agreement.
Why Close Brothers Asset Finance?
We are the largest, most successful and longest-established asset finance funder in the UK with over 30 years’ experience working with SMEs through all economic cycles – the fact is, there’s very little we haven’t seen or experienced, although the current crisis is proving to be the exception to the rule.

Finding the right solution for your needs
by Terry Lloyd, Head of Construction, Paragon Bankambitions. Crucial to their delivering on both is the need to acquire assets in a timely way that supports their business plans, and that is what we are dedicated to delivering.
This requires taking a flexible approach and developing a financing solution that works for all. Just as no two projects are the same, there is no a one size fits all funding package. Specialist lenders understand the challenges that firms in the sector face, the equipment they are seeking to acquire, and are ready to develop bespoke packages that will get assets into the hands of businesses.
Whether it be through refinancing existing assets, hire purchase, finance or operating leases, SMEs can be assured that there is a range of options available to them that can be delivered over a preagreed timeframe – providing businesses with the opportunity to add assets to their operations without the need to pay the full amount upfront, or keep an asset unused at their HQ.
When it comes to the construction and demolition sector, no two projects are the same. One year you are tearing down an old leisure centre, the next you are helping to build fresh rail infrastructure.
Each project comes with its own unique combination of size, timescales, and complexity – and with that comes the need for SMEs in our sector to have the right equipment to successfully deliver the task in hand.
Where one project might require three excavators for three months, another may need five diggers with specialist fittings for a year – along with the need for extra assets
that may arise as the project progresses.
Having an extensive fleet ready for any and every eventuality is not a sensible prospect for SMEs. Maintaining, insuring, and taxing assets that may not be required for years at a time are not costs businesses want on their balance sheets, but it remains essential that they are able to access the assets they require to deliver key projects –and that is why asset finance continues to play a vital role in our sector.
As Head of Construction at SME finance specialist Paragon, I see both the incredible projects SMEs are undertaking and support them to achieve their growth
We also understand that sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic in the construction sector. With rising demands to reduce the industry’s environmental impact, businesses are being challenged to reduce their carbon footprints to meet government net zero target – especially when it comes to publicly funded infrastructure projects.
For our economy to grow it is essential that assets continue to reach the SMEs delivering the projects that society needs. That is why the Paragon team is committed to developing packages that will get diggers to where they belong – on site – ensuring these vital projects are successfully delivered.

Not habitually following construction equipment enthusiasts online could have made me miss an interesting comment I was sent by a friend in the industry.
The video clip I received bemoaned the absence of the crème de la crème of the equipment world from this year’s Plantworx, namely, JCB, Kobelco, RokBak and Komatsu.
I would have dismissed it as irrelevant, but this particular enthusiast might just have had a point.
Having heard jibes that Plantworx had the air of a county fair, I was still more than happy to be positive and go once again, for the first time in four years. I had attended in 2019 and from memory it was a decent event but I am a lot more embedded in this industry now and know what to look for, what I want, enjoy and expect.
So on to the show itself. It was a delight to meet with the OEMs that were there, including those who advertise with us and those who get involved with our publications. We even did some new business and made new partnerships.
My working commitments only allowed me to attend the gala dinner on the Monday evening before the event proper, and a full day walkaround on the Tuesday – minor gripe, my editor’s surname was worryingly also given as Chambers and we were both listed as
working for a defunct publication.
Our table for the dinner was brilliant and the entire do was sound and probably the best part of the show for me. With industry and non-industry banter exchanged, wine quaffed, promises made to visit various stands (with some even kept) and a great host in ITV’s Chaser Shawn Wallace, it was a shame that some didn’t manage to turn up, leaving their seats bare even when we were told there was a waiting list. Hosting an awards event as I do, I know what an annoyance (putting it mildly) that can be.
All in all it was a decent event and from the hosts’ official post show press releases, it does seem that enthusiasts and vloggers seem to be a big part of who they want to encourage to be there.
With some of the big guns not being in attendance I was able to focus elsewhere on existing clients and making new friends with smaller dealers and OEMs.
I think for me having been spoiled with visits to the Las Vegas Convention Center for the annual World of Concrete and doubly this year with the gargantuan CONEXPO event, as well as last year’s best ever Hillhead, the show did lack a certain big event feel. But perhaps that wasn’t and isn’t the overall goal.
Plantworx 2023 shines bright: a ray of sunshine marks the last show at Peterborough Arena
From the first Plantworx event in 2013, rainfall had blighted every show. Plantworx 2023 came with a welcome twist, however. This time around, the event was marked by wall-to-wall sunshine. Attendees were greeted with a scorching hot and sunny spectacle, completely unlike previous shows.
Suneeta Johal, CEO of the Construction Equipment Association, said: “As my first Plantworx event as CEO, I was truly impressed by the innovative technology showcased, the industry recognition through our innovation awards and the significant deals made. I also received really good feedback from exhibitors about the quality of the organisation and ops – which is all down to our excellent operational team, headed up by Simon Frere-Cook and Stuart Favill.
“Peterborough gifted us with great weather and an electrifying atmosphere for my first Plantworx experience. Now, it’s time to set our sights on Plantworx 2025 and our next exciting venue, which we are actively seeking and we are hoping to update our loyal exhibitors and visitors in the coming months.”
Attendees were greeted with a wide array of state-of-the-art machinery and innovative products on display. Footfall over the course of the three-day event was approximately 10,000 unique visitors.
The show was supported by National Highways and Costain, who were on site throughout to talk to exhibitors and operators attending the event. The National Highways and Costain team shared the Partners Lounge with several other organisations, including AMPS – Association of Manufacturers and
Suppliers of Power Systems and ancillary equipment and overseas organisations including, ANMOPYC, bauma 2025, bauma CONEXPO INDIA, BICES 2023 Show, British Embassy Ulaanbaatar, CII EXCON, CONEXPO – CON / AGG, M & T Expo and the UK’s Department for Business and Trade. In addition, a large Mongolian delegation flew in to do business with UK exhibitors – such is the reach of the show.
Progress in making construction machinery run on electricity is happening very fast, as demonstrated by the number of electric machines on display. Along with these new machines, there were also renewable energy solutions on show. Companies like MHM Group demonstrated how they’re using renewable energy in construction, showing that the industry is really starting to think about
how it can be more sustainable.
Mecalac had a very good event. Allison Sedgwick, Marketing Manager said: “Plantworx 2023 was a fantastic show for us with a really positive vibe. After a four-year wait we all couldn’t wait to get back to the show that never fails to deliver a platform for our dealers to sell from. The sun shone for us in many ways with us also getting an innovation award for our revolutionary REVOTRUCK site dumper.”
Xerotech made its show debut, in the cool of the inside arena. The company’s Head of Marketing, Jesse Morris, said: “Well what a show Plantworx has been, with live demos, the latest in technology and industry awards. It was a successful event and an incredible experience. We also scooped a Special Recognition Award for Best Use of Technology for our Hibernium battery pack.”
Xwatch Safety Solutions also made its debut, showcasing its XW series of safety solutions, including height, slew, and RCI (rated capacity indicator) systems. The company also used the show to launch its 3D Collision Avoidance System in collaboration with Leica Geosystems, which can also be used for underground utilities. Xwatch Sales and Operations Director, Dan Leaney reported an excellent show with a huge interest in the products – and if the handshakes and verbal agreements come to fruition – the team would have secured orders in excess of £1m.
SANY used the event to showcase its latest range of wheel loaders – the SW305 and SW405 – which were said to have garnered significant attention over the three days. Business Development Director of SANY UK, Leigh Harris said: “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response and success we achieved at Plantworx 2023. The exhibition provided an invaluable opportunity for us to engage with industry leaders, establish new partnerships and demonstrate the innovation and excellence that defines our brand. The positive feedback we received regarding our new range of wheel loaders has further reinforced our commitment to delivering top-quality construction machinery to our customers.”
Mick Dysart, Managing Director EXVAC Equipment Sales Ltd was delighted: “Plantworx 2023 provided the UK launchpad for the EXVAC suction excavator. Having reviewed the significant number of sales and hot leads generated at the show, it is clear that Plantworx 2023 has delivered what we had hoped to achieve, and more. Footfall was good and more importantly, there was a high proportion of decision-makers among the visitors.”
The Liugong machinery stand was a hive of activity and there was a lot of interest in the new 16.5-kW 9027F-E electric excavator. The company sold five of these battery-powered minis at the show on the first day – going on to do
deals for a further 17 machines. The silentrunning 856HE wheel loader also made an appearance.
Matt Coleman, of The Toro Company, was at Plantworx for the first time with Toro UK. He said: “This was the first year of Toro UK Ltd choosing to take stand space and showcase our extensive portfolio of compact construction equipment. The show beat all expectations and the quality of visitors over the three days was encouraging, ranging from business owners to plant operators. It’s very rare to sell anything off stand without any followups post-event but we did.”
Peter Beach, Managing Director
Genquip Groundhog, is a great advocate of Plantworx, and his series of witty videos leading up to the show brought a smile to the Plantworx 2023 team. He said: “Genquip Groundhog had a hugely successful time at Plantworx 2023. We were highlighting our innovative carbon reduction welfare units and of course, the amazing weather helped with this.
“The quality of visitors this year was amazing, meaning all three units on our stand did not come back to the factory but straight to customer depots as all were sold at the show. It didn’t stop there, we had a fixed axle office on Team MHM stand and we sold this too, along with five others we had in stock at the factory. Leads taken at the show meant we also sold five more stock mobile units straight from the factory.”
Gaz Evans, GEM Attachments and Scale Models exhibited for the first time at Plantworx in the indoor arena,
saying: “Lucinda and I can’t thank the customers enough who have supported us at Plantworx and the current and new OEMs that came to speak with us. Our stand is a little shy of models – we have done some phenomenal business.”
Plantworx also served as the stage
for the announcement of the 600,000th machine protected by the CEA’s CESAR Scheme, a leading solution in machinery anti-theft. Suneeta Johal awarded MANITOU with a symbolic CESAR ID plate, numbered 600,000. Mark Ormond, Managing Director of Manitou, said:
“We have been supporters of the CESAR Scheme since its inception and recognise its part in reducing theft. We are delighted to be the manufacturer of the machine which has reached this incredible milestone and will continue to support CESAR.”
Visitors also had a fantastic experience at the show
The Plantworx 2023 event was a big hit among visitors, appreciating strong representation from top brands like
Takeuchi, Bobcat, Liugong, SANY, DEVELON, Mecalac, Hidromek and Caterpillar. A standout moment was
XMCG making its first UK appearance. These big names brought energy and excitement to the showground, showing off the best in plant machinery and construction equipment, with some very impressive demonstrations.
Director of CJ Charlton Group Chris Charlton came to the show armed with his cheque book. He said: “I had a great day at Plantworx and sealed a deal with Mutley Plant Services on some new demolition attachments, which will be added to our equipment fleet later this month.”
Merrill Lynch, Lynch Plant Hire and Haulage also visited the show and stopped by the Takeuchi stand and a deal was agreed with Takeuchi dealer, CBL (Clive Barford Limited) on the first Takeuchi TB395W, to the largest fleet of 10-tonne wheeled excavators in the UK.
Get Connected Zone and Simulation Zone
The Simulation Zone at Plantworx, a state-of-the-art training platform for construction professionals, hosted by Plantforce Rentals, made a triumphant return in 2023 following its phenomenal debut in 2019.
This innovative and interactive zone provided an unmatched opportunity for beginners and seasoned operators alike to enhance their skills and familiarise themselves with machine control systems and gain insights into the realm of construction.
Throughout the show, the zone was teeming with activity as every age group and various levels of experience tried their hands at the simulators.
The companies’ stands in the indoor arena had been buzzing with visitors and offered a cool alternative to the soaring temperatures outside. The newly inaugurated Get Connected Zone had brought together companies that had new and innovative ways of delivering solutions. The focus was on the people-plant interface, telematics, the connected site
and safety systems. Indoor companies such as Ongrade MC (Thomas Plant), Unicontrol, Smart Construction Sitech, Sodex, Plinx, MachineMax, GKD, and FTC were present.
Exhibitors, MachineMax and PLINX announced their partnership at the show in the ‘Get Connected Zone’. The two businesses have teamed up to provide a whole new approach to the connected worksite, integrating sensors from machines to people into one datadriven dashboard. Plinx also announced a new in-cab visual alert solution linked to the MachineMax sensors to support reductions in idle time.
The outside ‘Get Connected Zone’ exhibitors included key sponsors, Leica Geosystems, Conquip, Hyundai Construction Equipment Europe, and Ongrade MC (Thomas Plant).
Flannery Plant Hire reported a wonderful three days. “It was an unforgettable experience, which included engaging with many industry professionals and witnessing some exciting innovations that the industry has produced. Thank you to all who made it possible.”
Brand new Operator Challenge
The Operator Challenge Zone was the hub of the show. Hundreds of operators and a whole host of influencers gathered in the Plantorx speedway area, which was a hive of activity. There was a real feeling of camaraderie as operators took to the timed challenges in Hyundai machines.
The Operator Challenge was graced by guest visits from several of the UK’s top social media figures. These include Amy Underwood, widely known as Amy the Digger Girl; Conor Kelly also known as Conor the Digger Driver; Lloyd Peckham recognised as Bearded Excavation; Kurt Mills, known as Lord Muck; Lana Edwards, who goes by Tracklass1; and the rising star Ben ‘the operator’ Wade, who appears to have a promising career ahead. The contest between Conor and Lloyd, which was dubbed ‘rumble in the jungle’, was eagerly anticipated and showcased on Instagram and TikTok. It was a tight competition but Bearded Excavation ultimately claimed victory.
Onsite Awards
There were onsite awards for exhibitors who made a big impact. The awards were presented at the Exhibitor’s Reception, which took place on the evening of the first day of the show.
The Winner of the Best Indoor Static Stand was Radiodetection. The judges, Angela and Simon thought the stand was welcoming and the staff were very attentive and approachable. Visitors to the stand could see the product and were in no doubt about what was on offer.
The second winner of the night for Best Outdoor Static Stand went to Xwatch Safety Solutions. The judges felt that it was welcoming, with an innovative use of materials including flower boxes and aged wood. The upstairs grass mezzanine provided a quiet place to sit relax and see the rest of the show away from the hustle and bustle. Dan Leaney, Xwatch Safety Solutions, Operations Director said: “We were thrilled to win this award – this is our first Plantworx and we really made an effort with our stand.”
The next award was for The Best Use of an Outdoor Demo Area. Judges, Nick Drew and Peter Haddock – were unanimous that this prize should go to DEVELON. There was a lot of thought and preparation that went into the stand –it really had the wow factor. A really nice feel and flow and was not just a ‘Tent in a field’ but a truly impressive stand.
The Outstanding Contractor Award went to Fuchsia Events and its team. Plantworx Event Director, Simon Frere-Cook presented the award to Fuchsia Chairman, Mike Coleman, who dedicated this award to his son Nick Foreman. Simon said, that you couldn’t fault Nick and the Fuchsia team – they are impeccable in every aspect of site etiquette and always excel in everything they do.”
The Best Demonstrator at Plantworx (Operator) Award is a hotly contested award as there are many talented demonstrators at the show. However, there has to be a winner and this year it was Takeuchi demonstrator, Owen Mays.

Advanté launches Vision Solar Access welfare unit at Plantworx
Advanté, the UK-based manufacturer of the revolutionary Oasis® ‘instant start’ self-contained welfare units, has taken a positive step on the road to greater on-site accessibility with the launch of the Vision Solar Access toilet block with DDAcompliant (Disabilities Discrimination Act, as superseded by the Equalities Act 2010) facilities.
The toilet block was launched at PlantWorX 2023 by Jackie Maginnis, CEO of the MPBA (Modular Portable Buildings Association).
Stan Chapman, Research and Development Director at Advanté, explained: “This unique toilet facility was developed in response to demand from customers looking to provide accessible facilities for wheelchair users. We held indepth discussions on what clients required from a disabled access unit to ensure we understood fully the needs and challenges to be met. The final unit design took its inspiration from an already successful model in our range in meeting all access needs, plus we built on our expertise in utilising renewable energy.”
The Vision Solar Access unit comprises a two-bay toilet area with two urinals accessed by a short staircase and a single full access toilet with ramp and automatic door system, compliant with building regulations for disabled access.
This latest innovation follows the release of the Vision Solar toilet block recently, as part of Advanté’s commitment to helping sites to achieve net zero. Like Vision Solar, the new Vision Solar Access is powered by a solar hybrid system, which is fully selfsufficient needing no connection to external services as part of helping sites to achieve net zero. The toilet block is space heated to ensure a comfortable environment for users in the colder months.
Advanté’s Vision Solar Access unit
is designed for any site that requires a fully accessible toilet unit, including construction sites and existing buildings undergoing refurbishment. The fully compliant DDA unit is 7.6 x 2.7 m in size.
The new Vision Solar Access is powered by Oasis Solar Hybrid Technology, which delivers up to 100% renewable energy to power the electrical loads in the unit silently, including lighting, hot water and hand dryers, backed up with a 6 kVA LPG generator.
With up to 100% of electricity being delivered from renewable sources, the unit gives impressive carbon savings and air quality is enhanced due to minimal reliance on a generator.
The toilet block is also fully HSE compliant and provides hot and cold running water in a high quality, comfortable environment. The innovative new unit is designed to cater for large numbers of staff and comes with an
intelligent telemetry system, meaning it can be monitored remotely to ensure trouble-free welfare operation.
Advanté pioneered the design and production of its Oasis® welfare units for main contractors after health and safety requirements, introduced in 1998, meant that all construction sites had to provide hot and cold running water before work could start. The Oasis units provide a complete solution that is ready to use on day one, before services are installed on site.
Advanté supplies hybrid (Solar LPG) powered welfare and office units to some of the UK’s most prominent construction and housebuilding firms, including many of the Tier 1 contractors.
Many of the company’s original early adopter clients remain as clients of the business. The Oasis® Welfare range continues to be renowned for its innovative, high-quality market-leading features.

DEVELON launches
DX140LC-7K 14-t crawler excavator
DEVELON, formerly Doosan Construction Equipment, has launched the new DX140LC-7K 14.6-t crawler excavator, replacing the company’s successful DX140LC-7 model. While the performance and working range are the same as the DX140LC-7, the new machine incorporates many improvements that enhance safety and convenience both for the operator and for working on site, together with a better operator experience, particularly from a maintenance point of view.
Improvements include:
• Improved maintenance access
• Safer access to upper structure
• Better rear visibility
• Better right-side visibility
• New dashboard with tablet design, offering faster response
The upgraded serviceability of the DX140LC-7K includes better access to the DEF tank and the fuel refilling hose. This is combined with a much easier approach for the operator to the engine compartment via new anti-slip steps
and handrails positioned behind the cab. The anti-slip steps are protected and secured by a new door on the side of the excavator.
The DX140LC-7K also has a new flattened engine cover design that has reduced the maximum height of cover components on the back of the machine from 1,285.5 mm and 1,320 mm down to a uniform 1,070 mm. This offers much better visibility for the operator both to the rear and to the right-hand side of the machine.
Under the bonnet
Inside the engine compartment, changes have been made which have facilitated the new lower engine cover, including the repositioning of the PTO (Power Take-Off) for the rotation pump from the main pump to the engine itself. This has also allowed the size of the aftertreatment system to be optimised and for it to be lowered.
Elsewhere on the DX140LC-7K, DEVELON has removed holding valves from the main valve for better fluidity. These holding valves on the main valve are not needed in the EU, as they are standard on the boom and arm. This reduces pressure losses and creates less heat in the system. The air prefilter has also been moved for better performance and noise reduction.
Changes in the cab
Inside the cab there is a new dashboard monitor with a state-of-the-art tablet design. The former hydraulic two-way pedal has also been replaced by an electronic two-way pedal, with a new PE3C electric pedal as a standard feature, together with a simplified hydraulic system.
The state-of-the-art cab continues to excel in terms of spaciousness and ergonomics, taking operator comfort and ease of operation to new levels. As well as the new monitor, the operator has a high quality seat and more features as standard than other machines on the market, ensuring super controllability and high precision in all applications.
Other key features in and around the cab include:
• DAB audio (hands-free calling system and Bluetooth)
• Keyless start (DEVELON Smart Key) and remote door lock/unlock
• Fully adjustable air suspension seat with heating (with optional cooling function)
• Parallel wiper system and new design pedals
• Improved airflow for defrosting and air conditioning
• Nine LED work lights as standard/two more LED lamps as an option
• AVM – Around View Monitor with 360° cameras (option)
The new excavator uses a smart hydraulic system that offers an improvement of around 30% in attachment work compared to previous models. This system applies a smart hydraulic logic for optimal distribution of the hydraulic flow rate when both the arm and attachment are working simultaneously, with a new priority valve and an additional hydraulic line maintaining continuous hydraulic flow to the attachment, even when the arm is being used.
SPC3 Smart Power Controls
The DX140LC-7K is powered by the D34 four-cylinder Stage V diesel engine providing 86 kW at 2,000 RPM. The impressive performance of the engine in combination with the hydraulic main valve and the SPC3 Smart Power Controls, provide increased fuel saving. There are four power modes available on the DX140LC-7K and the operator is able to set the mode (P+, P, S or E) in both one-way and two-way working modes.
Tiltrotator Mode
Tiltrotator Mode ensures optimised hydraulic flow and maximises the accuracy of tiltrotator work by eliminating back pressure. This is a special two-way flow mode but it is managed by the EPOS like a one-way flow mode, with direct return to the tank in each direction, to avoid back pressure and increase flow and controllability.
DEVELON Telematics Management System
The DX140LC-7K is factoryinstalled as standard with DEVELON’s state-of-the-art Telematics Management System for wireless fleet monitoring. This system offers a web-based fleet management solution that is useful for monitoring the performance and security of machines and promoting preventative maintenance.

JCB launches zero emission 403E compact electric loader
JCB is introducing its first full electric wheeled loader, delivering best-in-class performance and full working day use, with low noise and zero-emission operation for customers. The machine boasts the largest standard battery pack in its class, with a 20 kWh capacity, with productivity matching the popular 403 diesel model.
Features include:
• 20 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is largest capacity in class
• 33.4 kW drive motor (peak power) with three driving modes
• 20 kW hydraulic pump (peak power) with shovel and fork modes
• ZF axles with an integrated drop-box for permanent four-wheel drive
• Digital dashboard and rotary controller for precision operation
• Clean power
JCB is expanding its full electric equipment lineup, with the launch of the 403E wheeled loader, helping customers to meet the challenge of carbon reduction on site. The machine is powered by a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, assembled from proven JCB modules, as pioneered in the company’s existing range of electric equipment. These batteries, coupled with high efficiency electric motors and optimised traction and hydraulic systems, deliver class-leading performance, with the loader capable of completing a full working day, or four to five hours of continuous use in a mixed duty cycle.
In common with the JCB E-Tech range, the 403E has a built-in charger that allows connection to a range of on-site power sources. A 110 V socket will fully charge the batteries in 12 hours, while a 230 V industrial or domestic plug will charge the battery pack in just eight
hours. JCB’s off-board rapid charger can also be used with the 403E, delivering a full charge from a three-phase supply in just two hours.
The machine is equipped with two independent electric motors, one for the driveline and one for the hydraulics. The drive motor delivers 33.4 kW and comes with three driving modes, which the operator can toggle between using two buttons on the top of the joystick.
Hare Mode has a maximum 20 kph drive speed for the most dynamic performance and productivity.
Tortoise Mode is limited to 8 kph for improved speed modulation. This contributes to improved battery life with no compromise to lifting performance.
Snail Mode has a 5 kph maximum speed, that can be adjusted in 0.5 kph increments through a new rotary controller and the multifunction display.
This delivers precise speed control for precision driving and inching.
Drive is transmitted through an integrated drop-box to ZF axles, that can be supplied with open differentials or with differential locks for maximum traction. The loader is offered with a choice of narrow or wide wheels, plus the option of agricultural or industrial tyres, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
Productive loader
Carried over from the 403 diesel model, the loader arms are available in standard and high-lift configurations. The standard lift arms deliver a pin height of 2.9 m, while the high-lift model achieves a 3.1 m pin height. Both loader arm setups come with a hydraulic quick hitch as standard and the loader arms provide a true parallel lift capability.
The 403E offers a tipping load of 972 kg
with pallet forks, within a transport weight of just 2,671 kg. This puts the 403E within EU trailer towable standards, making it an ideal machine for landscape, municipal and rental customers. A heavy-duty counterweight is available as an option, increasing the tipping load by 118 kg and the transport weight by 121 kg.
The machine has a single joystick with a proportional auxiliary controller on top. An optional second auxiliary roller can be provided, allowing the operator to access all loader functions from one lever for faster operation.
The machine has a 20 kW high efficiency hydraulic pump motor and the hydraulic system offers two operating modes, controlled by a rocker switch on the main console. Shovel/bucket mode provides dynamic response, while the fork mode delivers increased precision control. A programmable constant flow auxiliary feature is also standard, to power motorised attachments, with the operator setting the flow rate through the main display and rotary controller.
Operator comfort
The 403E is offered with a fixed or folding canopy initially, with a fully glazed cab as an alternative from Q3 2023. There is a new multifunction digital display, controlled by the rotary controller to the right of the loader joystick. The operator can use the rotary controller to set auxiliary hydraulic flow rates, inching travel speeds and other settings within the display. The monitor also provides all critical machine operating data, including driving mode, state of battery charge and travel speed.
The wheeled loader joins a rapidly growing range of full electric machinery within the JCB lineup. This proven technology is revolutionising the way in which contractors, local authorities and rental companies work, offering zeroemission performance at the point of use. With reduced noise levels and machine vibration, the 403E is a comfortable, highly productive zero-emission loader, capable of working with a range of attachments.
Maximum power on the slopes of Mount Etna
A Hyundai HX520A NL excavator is demonstrating all of its power in a lava stone quarry in Sicily where it is used for stone extraction and crushing work.
Intramoviter S.r.l. specialises in lava stone extraction, crushing, earthmoving and transportation. Its quarry, the true heart of the company, is in Contrada Incaria, at Belpasso in the Sicilian province of Catania. Located on the slopes of Mount Etna, the site is focused on the extraction of inert lava aggregates that stand out for their unique characteristics: lava rock is a strong and particularly durable material used in street furniture and architecture.
A rock-solid solution
Natale Consoli, a veteran operator with the company said: “Intramoviter is a family-owned company founded in 1990, which handles the extraction and distribution of inert lava aggregates for construction work. In this quarry, formed entirely of lava stone, we crush the rocks with a hydraulic hammer, reducing it to pieces of roughly eighty centimetres in size, which are then collected in buckets and loaded on lorries. They are then transported from the quarry to the crushing plants, where they are transformed into sand, cobbles and chippings.”
The new Hyundai HX520A NL excavator has been operating in this setting for several months now. It is equipped with a Cummins Stage V engine, delivering all the power needed for particularly demanding applications of this type, while at the same time reducing emissions and fuel consumption.
Natale Consoli said: “It is a machine
that we really needed for speeding up the extraction phase. The power and the geometric capacity of the boom enables us to reach greater heights – optimising our time and resources. Despite weighing 50 t, this Hyundai excavator is very agile. Even the undercarriage, which can be extended from 3 to 3.3 m, enables us to change the machine’s setup according to the situation in which we have to operate. In addition, it enables it to be more easily transported without having to resort to using an escort for exceptional transport.”
Precision and performance
Giuseppe Pappalardo, owner of Ct Macchine, Hyundai Construction Equipment Dealer for the region of Sicily said: “The customer needed a powerful and sturdy, but also agile, precise and safe machine. In fact, the operation of rock fracturing and extraction is not simple: it is necessary to drill at very precise spots on the slope to avoid the risk of being crushed by large boulders. In these situations, it is necessary to have safe machines and qualified operators.”
Purpose built for applications of this type, the new Hyundai HX520A NL excavator, equipped with the Epiroc HB4100 hammer is proving the perfect solution.
Giuseppe Pappalardo continued:
“We proposed this model because it is a reliable, high-performance and extremely durable machine: The chassis frameworks are reinforced to allow operation under the most severe conditions. In addition, the cabin’s new design ensures maximum visibility of the work area, aided by the AAVM camera system that offers a 360°
view. Another aspect that our customer appreciated is the easier and simplified maintenance, with service intervals increased from 500 to 1,000 hours.”
High-tech and high comfort
Natale Consoli concluded: “The new Hyundai excavator has all the technology at your fingertips. At any moment, you can control every function and carry out any necessary monitoring. The same onboard computer performs periodic diagnostic checks and warns you if and when action is needed. Unquestionably, the evolution of Hyundai’s technology has given us a machine that’s decidedly more comfortable than other machines we have had in the past. There are many more comfort-focused features for the operator who, over a day, would otherwise be subject to continual vibrations and oscillations inside the cab. The cab itself is bigger as is the field of vision from up on the machine.”
Hyundai has Sicily covered
Referring to Hyundai’s partnership with CT Macchine, which now covers all of Sicily, Giuseppe Pappalardo said: “In 2018 we signed a partnership with the Korean brand as the authorised dealer for Western Sicily. Thanks to the rapid expansion of our business and an excellent market response, in 2022 we signed a contract as sole distributor of Hyundai machines for all of Sicily. We now plan to enlarge our rental fleet in response to growing requests from our customers – but our primary focus will never move from quality after sales support, with qualified technicians able to promptly intervene throughout the territory we cover.”

Where there are no tracks, Prangl is on the road: The FT SERIES rail vehicle transporter
In Linz, Austria, the old railroad bridge over the River Danube was dismantled in 2016 and replaced with a new road bridge, which was opened in 2021 without any rail access. As a result, locomotives and rolling stock have to be transported across the Danube on the A7 autobahn bridge on heavy haulage road vehicles. This proved to be no problem for the experts at Prangl GmbH, while Goldhofer’s new rail vehicle transporter combination showed just what it is capable of on the narrow inner-city roads.
In April 2023, a track geometry
inspection car of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) weighing a total of almost 50 t had to be moved from the shunting yard at Stadthafen Linz across the Danube to Urfahr railway station in the centre of town. For periodic inspection work on the track, which is part of an island rail operation, the experienced heavy-haul experts of Prangl GmbH were commissioned to transport the car. With its new pivot-mounted FT SERIES 2+4 combination with a rail vehicle deck, the entire 47-m rig weighing a total of 135 t was manoeuvred through the city centre at
night without any problems. Furthermore, Prangl was able to significantly reduce its capital outlay because, despite the new bogies, it was possible to use a loading deck from the company’s existing fleet – thanks to the universal combination options of Goldhofer’s FT SERIES.
The ÖBB inspection car with its track geometry measuring and recording equipment was unloaded in Urfahr the following day and driven along the approximately 100 km section of track before returning in the afternoon for reloading onto the semitrailer combination.
Roland Walzl, heavy haul and special transport driver at Prangl said: “An impressive suspension stroke of 640 mm makes loading much easier – especially with the high pre-tension in the loading
deck and the need to uncouple the front bogie.”
The return trip to the shunting yard, again at night, began with a challenge. Because of the extremely limited space available, the combination had to be reversed over a distance of about 300 m to a junction where it could turn around. Thanks to an extra wide steering angle of ± 60°, that was no problem at all for the Prangl team.
From there, the journey continued through the city centre, where the new FT SERIES heavy-duty modules once again proved their worth. Having been perfectly configured for use in confined spaces during the ordering process, including a low loading height achieved with the help of 205 tyres, the combination – with a total height of 4.6 m – was able to pass under the inner-city overhead lines and traffic lights and various road signs.
The final act was an approximately 5 km section of wrong-way driving on the closed Austrian A7 to the shunting yard at Stadthafen Linz.
Jochen Schmidt, Head of the Heavy Haul and Special Transport Department at Prangl said: “With the new heavyduty modules in the FT SERIES we can respond flexibly to any challenge, be it manoeuvring in confined spaces or the need for different module combinations. With the FT SERIES we can quickly adapt to requirements.
“For us, the big advantage of the FT SERIES is that changes to the transport system can be made without any problems at any time. In addition, it also supports combinations with vehicles and loading decks from our existing fleet. This means that we are ideally equipped for the future and are looking forward to the transport operations that lie ahead.”

Lunaz confirms local government fleet electrification programme with Buckinghamshire Council
Lunaz is delighted to announce the next phase in a landmark fleet electrification partnership with Buckinghamshire Council. Following the conclusion of a competitive tendering process, Lunaz has committed to the first phase of upcycling and electrification of a municipal refuse fleet.
This follows the signing of a Fleet Electrification Agreement at a COP Event hosted at the company’s Silverstone HQ. This started a programme of detailed technical and economic assessment, which enabled them to assemble a highly credible proposal for the competitive tendering process leading to confirmation of the first order.
The first Buckinghamshire bin lorry to become fully electric will begin its up-cycling and electrification process as part of the pioneering partnership between Buckinghamshire Council and Silverstone-based, clean-tech company Lunaz.
The 26-t refuse vehicle will be converted from its existing diesel power to electric, with delivery to be made in the
autumn. The work is being funded with a grant from DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).
All Lunaz vehicles are completely stripped down and all components inspected, up-cycled and replaced as required. This includes the removal of the current diesel engine and replacing it with a fully electric drivetrain. The cab, driver functions and bin-lift equipment will also be fully refurbished and upgraded to latest technological and safety standards.
This week, Gareth Williams, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment oversaw the delivery of the first diesel refuse vehicle to the team at Lunaz’ HQ on the Silverstone Technology Park. He said: “This is a very exciting moment for Buckinghamshire Council and a big milestone in our journey to cutting our carbon emissions and meeting our climate change strategy ambitions.
“It marks the first step in our desire to run a more sustainable fleet of vehicles by using a renewable energy source and has multiple additional benefits including
improving air quality and saving money both in terms of cheaper everyday running costs, and the retention of more than 80% of the embedded carbon versus scrapping an existing vehicle and replacing with new. In this regard, our partnership with Lunaz represents the best possible outcome for both the planet and the taxpayer. It also reflects our commitment as a council, to supporting local business and employment in the area.”
This announcement follows the signing in April 2023 of a seven-year fleet electrification programme between Biffa, the UK’s leading sustainable waste management company and Lunaz confirming a commitment to allocating a significant proportion of its 1,110 vehicle per year production capacity.
Better for the planet, better for the taxpayer
For UK councils, the procurement of these vehicles represents a dramatic saving for the taxpayer, with more than £1m in public money saved for every 20 vehicles upcycled and electrified versus buying new EV equivalents.
The British economy further benefits as Lunaz is pioneering growth in circular practices at a critical time by supporting more than 300 jobs and a new green capability.
Every up-cycled electric vehicle produced by Lunaz saves 82% of the
embedded carbon within that vehicle. For context, at full capacity, Lunaz’ factory in Silverstone, UK, will save the equivalent weight of the Eiffel Tower every year in embedded carbon by upcycling rather than scrapping existing fleet vehicles.
Furthermore, Lunaz stands alone in subtracting a polluting vehicle from the global car park with every vehicle it electrifies. This is through its one for one policy, which ensures the decommissioning of every fossil fuel engine before recycling its components. This practice ensures existing polluting engines are completely eradicated and replaced with clean-air equivalents.
The Waste Management industry is at the frontline of a critical requirement to reduce carbon emissions from road logistics. According to a report by the World Economic Forum: “For the industry to limit temperature increases to no more than 1.5 degrees centigrade, twothirds of trucks sold this decade must be zero-emissions.”
However, this must not come at the cost of scrapping millions of perfectly serviceable vehicles, in doing so increasing the carbon burden in waste and the manufacturing process. The Lunaz approach, in line with the principles of the circular economy, answers this and also creates major economic benefits.
A Lunaz UEV represents a significant Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) saving
versus either existing diesel equivalents or new EVs. This accelerates the adoption of clean air vehicles by creating a more economically viable route to fleet transition.
Lunaz investor, David Beckham said: “This is a strong endorsement of Lunaz’ innovative approach to finding sustainable solutions and I’m delighted to be an investor in this fast growing and exciting British company.”
Designed from the ground up for waste management
Each UEV by Lunaz has been designed based on primary research in the field, dramatically improving the carbon impact of these vehicles and contributing to quieter and cleaner communities in which they operate.
The upcycling process also creates significant functional and operational advantages. Lunaz’ 150 specialist engineers are developing key modifications exactly tailored for each local authority’s user requirements.
This includes the ability to tailor the size of the powertrain to a specific route profile, enabled by the Lunaz modular proprietary powertrain. This means for shorter, more urban routes, the user is not burdened with the extra cost and weight of an overspecified battery pack.
Critical enhancements to the cabin augment significant safety improvements.
This includes the use of 360° cameras with person and cyclist detection and the relocation of the handbrake to ensure drivers never need to take their hands off the wheel.
The camera monitoring system also dramatically improves driver awareness. Two assemblies containing three cameras are mounted on the top corners of the UEV, feeding digitised rear-view mirrors.
The screens also feature object detection, highlighting cyclists, pedestrians and potential hazards to the driver. Unlike standard mirrors, these operate under all conditions, including rain, snow and total darkness, dramatically increasing safety.
Lunaz UEV refuse trucks have been developed following live operator feedback with Lunaz engineers frequently taking part in refuse truck rounds to ensure an intimate understanding of frontline requirements. Critical enhancement to driver comfort and operation have been included, ensuring crews feel the benefit of the latest technology and innovations.
Every UEV by Lunaz undergoes an exhaustive process of remanufacturing, re-engineering and electrification. This takes place at the company’s state-of-the art upcycling and electrification campus on the Silverstone Technology Park. This will support more than 300 highly skilled jobs by 2025.
Flannery’s Cat Vision Personnel Detection product development trial proves successful
Finning UK & Ireland, the world’s largest dealer of Cat machines and equipment, has teamed up with one of the UK’s largest plant hire companies to reduce construction fatalities and injuries by trialling a smart detection system capable of alerting operators if someone is too close to their machine.
Flannery Plant Hire has completed a two-year product development trial of Cat Personnel Detection, the latest system to be launched from the Cat Vision range. The system reduces the risk of injury to ground personnel working around machinery by alerting an operator dynamically based on the person’s proximity to the machine.
The product development trial involved the smart camera system being fitted to eight of their machines which were a mixture of excavators and dozers involved in work on HS2 sites, with feedback being collated by the team at Finning and forwarded to the product team at Cat to support its further development.
Patrick Flannery, Director at Flannery Plant Hire, said: “We were delighted to be approached by Cat to be a testbed for this new product thanks to our relationship with Finning. Keeping people safe on and around sites where our machines are working is something we factor into every company decision.
“Health and safety first is an approach that everyone at Flannery Plant Hire is expected to take. So any product innovation which helps our employees
and our client base to do this effectively is something we always consider seriously.
“We found the Cat Vision Personnel Detect system to be a robust piece of kit which has clearly been manufactured to a high standard, and smart detection systems like this are likely to become standard soon so are something our sector will have to invest in.”
The system, which can be installed on most medium-size machines including non-Cat wheel loaders, graders, tractors, and track loaders, includes a single rear facing camera together with a 10-inch high resolution touchscreen display with smart detection.
It allows an operator to zoom in and has a 170-degree field of vision with target areas set at 20, 10 and 5 m, which relate to three colour zones. Yellow is low risk so while the system will detect the person there is no audible alert, but if they step closer into the Orange zone this triggers an intermittent alarm, then there is a nonstop solid alarm for someone detected in the Red zone.
Chris Phillips, product manager and quality engineer for Finning, said: “While many machines come with cab cameras fitted, where Cat Personnel Detection differs is that it can specifically identify people from objects and will trigger an operator response because it sounds either an intermittent or solid alarm depending on how close they are to the machine.
“The system creates a boundary box around the person making them easy to spot, but if they step out of the field of view of the screen the system can still detect them and will give the operator a red or orange bar or ‘bumper’ on-screen depending on how close they are.
“It can be physically fitted to machines with a minimum height of 1.75 m, up to maximum of 3.5 m, so is suitable for typically mid-range machines. There are plans to expand it to a greater range of machines in the future, including articulated trucks. The algorithm and the capability of the system is also being developed so it will be able to offer recording capability as well.”

CASE completes beach cleanup project
CASE Construction Equipment has played an essential role in the innovative Beach Care Project, an environmentally friendly, coastal clean-up initiative directly involving more than 400 students and delivering educational kits to more than 10,000 school children across Italy, France, Spain and the UK.
The project, which resulted in the cleaning and ecological maintenance of beaches across Europe, was centred on education and awareness. It involved collaboration with leading academic and scientific institutions including the Italian Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and Spain’s Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC).
Commencing in 2020, after an Italian television documentary La natura che parla (Nature Speaks), the first beaches to benefit from the project were at Rovigliano, in Campania, Italy, around
the mouth of the Sarno river. The project was expanded in 2021, to take in Carini Beach in Sicily, where two tonnes of mainly plastic waste was removed and at Foce Varano in Apulia, where 2.5 tonnes of waste was collected.
On to the Cote d’Azur in France, the activity involved ecological management of the Banquette of Posidonia Oceanica, a seagrass species that is vital for the marine ecosystem. Further sites were developed in Tarragona in Spain and the project was part of the Posidonia Green Festival in Barcelona. While many of the initial locations were city beaches, the final site to benefit from the project’s work was a river mouth at Thorney Bay Beach, on Canvey Island in the UK.
Working with parent company CNH Industrial, CASE Construction Equipment supplied a range of machines, including a 621G wheel loader and a TV370B compact tracked loader to the projects. The machines were used to
collect and load plastic waste from the sand on the beaches, preventing it being washed into the sea. This plastic was analysed by CNR and CNRS, before being recycled into educational toys, contributing to a circular waste economy.
Daniela Ropolo, CNH Industrial’s Head of Sustainable Development Initiatives said: “At CNH Industrial, sustainability informs everything that we do. Through this important international project, we are promoting the protection of the environment across generations. Its impact is getting bigger and bigger with each country we visit.”
Overall, the Beach Care Project has involved thousands of school children across Europe. Around 400 students have taken part in the actual cleaning projects, with 10,000 schoolchildren provided with educational materials to help them learn about beach ecosystems.
Federico Bullo, Head of Europe Construction Equipment CNHIndustrial, said: “CASE and its partners are cleaning beaches to give them back to the community, completing leading edge academic research, educating and promoting responsible values among younger generations and fostering interest and engagement in environmental protection and care.
“Since 2021, over 10,000 children learned about beach ecosystems, as the Beach Care Project was rolled out in schools, with educational materials and dedicated lessons.”
Barry Campagna, Chairman of Canvey Bay Watch, one of the local organisations behind the UK site said: “When the beach is clean, people show it more care and respect. Our efforts make people further appreciate the marine environment. It also enables other opportunities for local children to learn about the positive ecological impact they can make. CASE’s machinery certainly makes our work easier.”
JCB wins 900-machine deal from national builders’ merchant
JCB has won one of its biggest orders of the year after a 900-machine deal was signed with national builders’ merchant Jewson.
The order for machines worth more than £12m is the biggest ever placed by Tool Hire – the rental division of Jewson – in the 20 years since JCB first began supplying the company.
The special anniversary is being marked in electrifying style as the new fleet of machines includes 19C-1 E electric mini excavator models and 1TE electric site dumpers. The new Cat 995 Wheel Loader: greater performance, payload and economy
Building on the success of the 994K, the new Cat 995 Wheel Loader features up to 19% greater productivity than the previous model, with its higher rated payload and 6% increase in hydraulic force with equal hydraulic cycle time.
This new loader delivers up to 13% lower hourly fuel consumption and offers up to an additional 8% efficiency gain when operating in Enhanced Eco Mode compared to throttle lock mode. It is also up to 19% more efficient than the 994K
in equal comparisons of throttle lock operation.
Enhancements to the front linkage include an improved casting design, increased weld size, larger bearings and pins and profile changes for increased service life. New, larger capacity buckets available for the 995 incorporate an extended floor for fast loading, high fill factors reaching 115%, and excellent material retention. Buckets are interchangeable between the 995 and 994K.
Built to the same size as the 994K but offering a higher rated payload, the new 995 enables a one-pass reduction when loading Cat 785, 789 and 793 Mining Trucks. This equates to up to a 33% increase in production and efficiency when loading the 785, up to a 25% increase with the 789 and up to a 20% increase with the 793.
The new 995 meets the global industry’s demand for high production and greater payloads with its powerful Cat 3516E engine offering configurations based on regional needs, meeting EU Stage V/US EPA Tier 4 Final or US EPA Tier 1 equivalent emissions. Its 39% torque rise ensures high lugging forces during digging and acceleration in high rimpull conditions.
Elevated comfort and visibility
The redesigned next generation operator environment for the new 995 has 50% more legroom and boasts features that improve operator confidence while reducing fatigue. Its pressurised cab reduces vibration feedback, lowers sound levels and includes automatic temperature control. Providing shift-long comfort, its new electrohydraulic speed-sensing steering with force feedback automatically stiffens when traveling at higher speeds and softens as speed decreases to boost operator confidence.
Designed for visibility, the cab’s taller windshield provides a 25% increase in glass surface area and a 64% increase in wiper sweep area to better see the bucket. Two 254-mm colour LED monitors display machine control, operating functions and the electronic operator’s manual. A third 203-mm screen offers a dedicated view of the standard rearview camera and is upgradable to a multiview camera system that offers 270-degree vision with rear object detection.
Access and egress to the cab along with all service areas being accessed from either ground level or a platform improves safety on the job. Wide stairs with full handrails on each side are positioned at a 45-degree angle for easy access. An optional powered access system – raised and lowered from either the cab or ground
level – enhances ingress and egress to and from the rear platform even further.
Confidence-boosting technology
Packed full of electronics, the new Cat 995 Wheel Loader offers flexible levels of information and technologies for a smart machine and better informed operator, maximising the productivity of both. Standard tip up prevention technology avoids unnecessary stress on the drivetrain and structural components by delivering full breakout forces while preventing the back tyres from significantly lifting off the ground.
New optional Autodig components automate three of the dig cycle’s most difficult parts in both rehandling and tough digging applications to improve productivity and reduce tyre wear. Reducing tyre wear, Tire Slip Prevention reduces rimpull before the tyres are set and increases rimpull when downward force is applied. Auto Set Tires detects pile contact and automatically lifts against the pile to set the tyres and increase available traction, discouraging premature racking. Lift Stall Prevention manages rimpull indig to prevent hydraulic stall when lifting through the face, so the 995 spends less time in the pile.
An onboard interactive training tool, optional Operator Coaching measures and reports on individual operator
behaviours that have an impact on efficiency, production and component life. Instructional videos provide training on measured behaviours, showing both the incorrect and recommended behaviours. Among 21 total monitored operating technique aspects, the system shows how to properly reduce tyre rotation, avoid unracking in-dig, enter the pile with a level bucket, avoid excessive usages of the impeller clutch, reduce dump height and use the kickout.
Available Payload Overload Prevention improves productivity and efficiency by allowing a larger bucket to be used to achieve pass-match targets across a range of material densities without risk of overload. It is configurable to either stop or slow lift arms when the maximum allowed payload, including bucket weight, is exceeded.
Standard Vital Information Management System (VIMS) on the new 995 allows customers to connect directly to the machine to access a wide range of sensor information and enhanced machine data. Taking the guesswork out of asset management, standard Cat Product Link™ provides remote access to machine operating data via the easy-to-use VisionLink® interface. The 995 supports a variety of Cat MineStar™ solutions including Health, Guide, and Terrain.
Reduced maintenance
Offering a 500-hour engine oil change interval and improved air filter life, the 995 spends more time working. The number of steering hoses has been reduced from 15 to 10 and tubes cut from 11 to 1 to improve steering system reliability. An enhanced service station provides access to functions like coolant and oil as well as level indicators, and it features a Cat battery charging connector and indicator lights for fuel tanks.
The loader’s redesigned pump bay improves access to transmission components, offers discharge ports on the side of the pumps and has simplified lines routed directly to the high-pressure screens. The bay includes a brake pump filter, implement pilot filter and implement discharge screens, and diagnostic ports are accessible from the front walk deck and pump bay. Groundline service now includes a steering pilot filter, transmission filters and steering pump discharge screen.
