One of the main events is the annual Valletta International Baroque Festival. So much to see in the various places of interest and museums across Malta and Gozo, where one can spend as much time as desired, unhindered by the crowds. Valletta International Baroque Festival

Seit der Erstveranstaltung im Jahr 2013 verwöhnt das Valletta International Baroque Festival die Besucher mit den besten Solisten und Ensembles der barocken Musikszene. Dienstag, 1 – Donnerstag, 31 08:00 - 16:00 Exploring The Phoenician Shipwreck Off Xlendi The Citadel – Gozo Diese Ausstellung zeigt die Entdeckung eines phönizischen Schiffwracks aus dem Jahr 700 v.Chr.. Es wurde 2007 vor Xlendi in einer Tiefe von 110 m gefunden. Dieses uralte Schiff erweckte weltweites Interesse, da es das älteste bisher in dieser Region gefundene Wrack darstellt. Opera Evening A family event enjoyable to professional musicians and music lovers alike

Mediterranean Conference Centre in collaboration with Zarattini International and European Foundation for Support of Culture proudly presents Opera Evening with The Philharmonic of Nissena, Italy, Baritone Salvatore Salvaggio, Italy, Maltese Soprano Marvic Baldacchino, and Conductor Alexei Galea Cavallazzi in a programme of popular arias by some of the most loved composers of the genre. Opera Evening is being held at Republic Hall, Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta on Sunday, 20 January 2019 at 18.00 hours. The orchestra and conductor shall also take centre stage for some of the most beautiful operatic overtures in the repertoire. This concert shall also feature vocal and orchestral works which are not operatic but have been included because of their popularity.

3. Check out sea-based activities. On windy days, the sea will be off-limits, and it is very important to follow warnings. But on calm days, the sea can be a delightful inspiration. Check out standup paddle boarding, which is literally like hiking on the water. Another alternative is kayaking, though this involves the use of the upper body as opposed to stand-up paddle boarding which involves full body usage. 4. Abseiling Adventures Maybe the more adventurous will seek thrills like abseiling and bouldering. Gozo’s deep ravines, cliffs and gorges offer challenges of different grades and it is always advisable to seek guidance before attempting some of the routes. You might ask yourself "What is there to do on an island like Malta in January?" The beginning of the month is characterized by events related to the Christmas season which traditionally goes on until the feast of the Epiphany which is celebrated on the 6th. The theatrical and operatic season is busy with events in all major venues across the island, especially in the capital, Valletta. The Manoel Theatre hosts the annual Valletta International Baroque Festival which apart from the theatre itself, performances are hosted in various churches and palaces within the capital city. These are just a few of the events taking place in Malta. You can also enjoy the countryside which is most enchanting at this time of the year due to the mild Mediterranean climate of the Maltese Islands. While in Malta, why not take the ferry and cross to Gozo, which although twenty five minutes away is yet a different destination with it's own character. Malta and Gozo have truly something to offer all year round and they are all yours to discover.

The Sicilian and Italian influences on our local palates are many and varied, but the most obvious rub-off is certainly the copious use of pasta. Yet as in many other cases, the locals have adopted this dish with much gusto, giving it their own intrinsic interpretation along the way. While Pasta with Ragu alla Bolognese and Penne all' Amatriciana are popular recipes all around, some more traditionally Maltese pasta recipes include Timpana. Timpana is a pastry covered baked macaroni, consisting of cooked macaroni tossed in tomato sauce with minced meat, as well as other ingredients such as hard-boiled eggs, cheese and other ingredients. Raw egg is added as a binder and the whole mix is covered with a thin layer of dough on the surface. The dish is then baked until the surface turns a lovely golden brown in colour, at which point the Timpana is ready. This dish very often prepared as a started for family gatherings and most families would surely be having Timpana at New Year's Day for lunch.
