Friday 1 – Tuesday 5 Carnival In Malta & Gozo. A Season of Colour & Fun. All Maltese Islands. Sunday 17 St Patrick’s Day. Heritage Malta will organise a special guided tour on the 20th and 21st March to witness the sun’s rays as they project themselves through the South Temple's main doorway and light up its main axis. A limited number of tickets for this event can be purchased from Heritage Malta’s sites and museums. www.heritagemalta.org Friday 29 Changing of the guard. St. George's Square, Valletta. 10:30. Formal Ceremony in which sentries providing ceremonial guard duties at important institutions are relieved by new sentries. Sunday 31 Freedom Day. (National Public Holiday) On 31st March 1979, the Defence Treaty with Britain came to an end as the last British forces left the Island. Activities commemorating this important historic date take place every year, mostly in Vittoriosa where the monument marking this event is situated.

Discovered off Xlendi in 2007, at a depth of 110m, this intriguing ancient vessel has attracted worldwide attention since it is the oldest wreck ever found so far in this region.
