CELEBRATING

MALTESE STONE, CULTURE AND FOLKLORE THE INNOVATIVE AND AWARD-WINNING ATTRACTION LIMESTONE HERITAGE PARK & GARDENS, LOCATED IN THE TRADITIONAL MALTESE VILLAGE OF SIÌÌIEWI, IS UNIQUE TO THE REGION. IT CELEBRATES THE MALTESE ISLANDS' DISTINCT STONE, AS WELL AS ITS INTRICATE FIT-TO-BURST HISTORY DATING BACK OVER 22,000,000 YEARS.

The Limestone Heritage Park & Gardens' immense insight into local history and culture is extremely accurate, heard through a multilingual audiovisual presentation and an engaging walkthrough available in 17 different languages. An animal park and a live demonstration of limestone sculpting can be enjoyed in a comfortable café after the tour, when visitors can also shop for genuine Maltese goods and exclusive stone souvenirs to take back home. Culture, folklore and cuisine at its best! Maltese culture is a hot pot packed with colour, vibrancy and an eclectic history. The Mediterranean lifestyle we lead means there is nothing we enjoy more than the chance to relax under the stars around good food, great entertainment and interesting people. With cuisine being a vital part of life in Malta, we relish stone-baked Maltese bread; the well-loved ©bejniet served plain or with cracked black pepper; bigilla - a bean, herb and garlic dip; pastizzi, the beloved snack of locals…. some well-known delicacies and like most things in Malta, once you've tried them you will be hooked.

MQARET MALTESE CUISINE IS STUFFED FULL WITH UNIQUE SWEETS AND DELICIOUS TREATS. ONE OF THE OLDEST AND MOST POPULAR SWEETS IN MALTA IS THE IMQARET. IMQARET ARE DELICIOUS PASTRY PARCELS WHICH ARE FILLED WITH A THICK PASTE OF DATES AND SERVED WARM. ALTHOUGH DATES, AS A FRUIT, ARE NOT INDIGENOUS TO MALTA, THEY ARE VERY POPULAR AND EASILY BROUGHT OVER FROM NORTHERN AFRICA. ONCE TRADITIONS SAW THEM BEING HOME-MADE AT CHRISTMAS TIME, BUT THE AVAILABILITY FROM KIOSKS NOW MAKES THEM A YEAR LONG ENJOYMENT. Imqaret are found at roadside stalls, sold dripping and hot, just one for a taster or half a dozen at a go, in a paper bag for just a few cents. Most notable are the hawkers at the kiosks at the Valletta bus terminus and as from May, which is when the festa or local feast season begins, they can be found being sold from kiosks in one town square or another. As with every tradition in Malta, Imqaret are re-introduced in the popular culture, with fine restaurants and hotels introducing these pastries as a dessert into their menus, served hot and dry, crispy, sometimes alongside ice-cream.

Gozo's Wine Culture “THE CAVE OF THE OLD MAN”, DATING BACK TO 1583 AND FOUND IN MÌARR IX-XINI IN GOZO, LINKS AN AGE-OLD MYTH TO A RICH CULTURE AND HISTORY OF WINES. THE MYTH BECAME REALITY A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WHEN ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS DISCOVERED SEVERAL WINE AND OIL PRESSES WITHIN THE VALLEY, SIMILAR TO OTHERS FOUND THROUGHOUT ALL OF THE MEDITERRANEAN. La Caverna wine bar located within the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz, has recently opened its doors to the public. Inside, one finds an Italian-style contemporary design with leather seating, wine rooms for the red and white wines, and of course, wines. This may just be the perfect setting for a long relaxing evening out. The atmosphere within the restaurant is enhanced by a painting of local Gozitan artist Noel Debono, which painting stretches along the wall with its composition of lively oranges and warm browns. The colours of the painting are echoed by the colours of the fireplace and the soft, mélange coloured leather armchairs. These are perfect for the enjoyment of a book, some antipasti, and a glass of wine or for a nice, quiet talk with your favourite company of friends. La Caverna is proud of its wine library which specializes in around-the-world wines. You would be amazed - with a room specializing in red wines and another in white wines. And for those people who enjoy knowing that much more, one can ask for a guided tour explaining the origins and stories of the wines.
