All major theatres and venues are busy every week for you to enjoy various kinds of performances. After some rainfall in October, the countryside is greener thus making walks and outdoor activities more enjoyable. Known as St Martin’s Summer, this month offers an extended summer kind of weather with sunny days yet cooler nights.

Par ailleurs, tous les théâtres et salles importants se donnent à faire pour que vous puissiez profiter de toutes sortes de prestations. Après la pluie du mois d’octobre, la campagne est plus verdoyante. Alors, les promenades et les activités en plein air sont encore plus agréables. Connu comme l’été de St Martin, ce mois-ci offre une prolongation du temps de l’été avec des jours ensoleillés mais des nuits plus fraîches.

Festival Mediterranea, (18th edition) is an annual celebration of culture with Gozo as a beautiful island backdrop in warm autumn. Mythology has it that the charm of this island aided the most beautiful nymph Calypso to halt Ulysses on his journeys and lure him away from his travels for seven mystical years. On your bike! Cycling in Gozo is a great way to explore the island’s lovely rural villages, as well as skirting the dramatic coastline. The island offers a a variety of bike routes that cater for all levels of expertise. The SIBIT route in Gozo runs around the entire coast, through as many as 14 villages and takes in most of the island’s main sights, both natural and historic. This two-wheeled, self-balancing scooter is easy to use and especially comfortable if hiking is not your thing. Local Councils Events Celebrating Tradition, GOZO ALIVE Folklore and Culture

November Sunday 11 Ex David Bruce Naval Hospital, Mtarfa. 10:30 - 17:00 The event shall start off with a visit to the Mtarfa Military Cemetery in order to remember the fallen during the First and Second World Wars. The Mtarfa Military Cemetery contains 238 Commonwealth burials from WW2. A wreath shall be laid in honour of these individuals. A salute by the local Scout Group will follow shortly afterwards, after which a convoy of at least 20 military vehicles will drive towards the official venue. The main event shall feature re-enactors performing various drills, battle simulations and skirmishes between British and German forces. There shall also be a WW2 field hospital and field kitchen together with a typical Victory Kitchen amongst other things. Members of the general public will be able to interact with the soldiers as they walk through the trenches which surround the venue, and which perfectly simulate life at the front line as well as at their retreat camps. A special attraction will be the unprecedented opening of the shelter beneath the ex-British Naval Hospital which served as an important hideaway and escape route for all patients and staff during the World Was. This magnificent unique shelter, which is 3 floors deep and includes an emergency operating theatre, has never been open to the public and this will most probably be the only occasion when they get a glance of this historical masterpiece. Furthermore, visitors will enjoy various displays of WWI and WWII memorabilia, including authentic weapons, radio equipment, and official attire. Several other entities, such as the Armed Forces, the Police Force, and the Civil Protection will participate in the event, providing a unique insight into their role during WWII. There shall also be an interesting display by the Malta Railway Foundation, which is especially significant given that the British Railway Service used to start from its Mtarfa Station. Moreover, the Mtarfa Local Council is in full cooperation with its local entities, assisting them in adding on to their props and wardrobes while giving them the opportunity to involve all of their members during Military Mtarfa 2018. Such cooperation and representation in this national event further nourishes the sense of pride and belonging to this historical northern town. MICAS: Malta International Contemporary Art Space

MICAS is Malta International Contemporary Art Space, Malta’s first national space dedicated to contemporary art. Following MICAS Concept Launch on 12-13 October, MICAS has officially been launched into the public domain with a series of events, notably the Concept Launch Reception with an address by the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to commemorate Ugo Rondinone’s sculpture the radiant and installation Joy, MICAS’s first acquisition. Housed in the Ospizio Complex located along the Msida Bastions of Floriana, MICAS is envisioned to be a hub for contemporary art, both local and international. With an ambition to strengthen Malta’s cultural infrastructure, as well as establish itself as a key player in the international art world, MICAS has already aimed its sights high. With a series of events consolidated into the Concept Launch, MICAS launched its concept, setting the pace for its international engagement programme, as well as starting to interact and collaborate with local entities. The first event was Conversations on the Rock, a series of panel talks with leading local and international artists and art professionals like Hans Ulrich Obrist, Yana Peel, Norbert Francis Attard, FredriksonStallard, Matthew Attard Navarro, Roland Mouret, amongst many others. These were held at MCAST, University of Malta and the Gran Salon at the National Archaeology Museum. MICAS Concept Launch Reception saw the commemoration of MICAS’s first acquisition—Ugo Rondinone’s sculpture the radiant, dedicated to the children of Malta and a installation called Joy, created collaboratively with students of SkolaSajf.

Connecting Geographies: from idea to project, curated by MICAS Art Director Ruth Bianco and created together with lead architect Claude Borġ, tracks the development of the MICAS architectural project, which has been developed and designed by IPOStudio. Making use of the long abandoned site of the Ospizio and Ritirata, IPOStudio have created a non-invasive building to house MICAS, while still delivering an innovative design. Lastly, a fundraising Gala Dinner was held to raise funds for MICAS, attended by local and international VIP guests including gallerists, art collectors, artists and art professionals, as well as PM Joseph Muscat and Michelle Muscat. The Gala night concluded with an auction in aid of MICAS, to great success. After the success of the MICAS Concept Launch, the MICAS team are looking forward to bring more projects to life. While the project will be officially completed in 2021, its doors are open for news ideas, collaborations and an a series of upcoming events in the run-up to 2021. Taking place from the 15th November till the 7th December, the Malta International Organ Festival is undoubtedly the largest event during this time of the year for lovers of art and classical music. With nineteen concerts by world-renowned musicians within the cathedrals, basilicas, churches, and chapels across the Maltese Islands, this is surely a fitting celebration of the king of instruments. The festival brings together some of the world’s finest musicians performing some of the greatest music written for the organ, whilst also showcasing some of Malta’s most stunning architectural and artistic heritage. Cultural Heritage is often associated very narrowly with museums and archaeological sites, but Malta possesses a much more extensive patrimony of heritage assets including music and our beloved Churches and Cathedrals. It was with the arrival of the knights of St John and the lifting of the Great Siege of 1565, that the building of modern Malta commenced, and the archipelago’s landscape was transformed beyond configurations that had changed very little since prehistoric times. Fortifications, wonderful palaces and a network of small cities, towns and villages emerged, where at the heart of each was a church. These small cities, towns and villages today form the historic centre of our archipelago’s urban landscape, and many are also the venues for the Malta International Organ Festival. The arts have always played a large role in Maltese culture, and it is everyone’s aim that the high calibre programme that has been put together should serve as an endorsement to the event’s international status , becoming now a regular part of the Malta cultural calendar. The Malta International Organ Festival was recently awarded the prestigious Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe (EFFE) label.

This label is a prestigious sign of not just a quality event, but one that is doing the most exciting and innovative work. The programme kicks off with F.Poulenc's masterpiece - Organ Concerto in g minor for Organ, Strings and Timpani, together with K.Fiorini's World Premier of Quatre Miniatures Romaines for Baritone, Organ, Strings and Percussion, sung by leading Maltese Baritone Joseph Lia. After the opening, 3 concerts will be take place on the island of Gozo, precisely in Nadur, Fontana and Cittadella. MET Opera of New York Soprano Olga Makarina will be joined by Mezzo Soprano Dina El to sing Pergolesi's Stabat Mater under the baton of Italian conductor Simone Valeri on the 22nd November at St. Mary Magdalena Church in Valletta, while Diego Cannizzaro will play a solo organ concert on 20th November on a 1790 Santucci organ at Our Lady of Victories Church, which is the oldest church in Valletta. American organist Gail Archer will give a solo organ concert at St. Augustine Parish Church in Valletta on 24th November, and on the 27th November Kristina Vilotseva will accompany Neils Pfeffer on the guitar at St. Bartholomew Chapel, Tarxien, which chapel was built in 1776. The Gudja Parish Church will host a concert All'Italiana for organ fulte and cello on the 1st December. On Sunday 2nd December Mariella Mochi on the Organ, flutist Luca Magni Flute, and cellist Daniela Tremaroli will play a very interesting concert of Christmas music at St Barbara Church in Valletta. The closing concert will be a concert surely not to be missed. A full programme of Baroque music at St. Augustine Parish Church, Valletta, having the highly acclaimed maestro Stefano Molardi conducting Malta's famous VIBE baroque ensemble and leading Maltese baritone Joseph Lia to sing Telemann's Christmas Cantata.
