FITUR Screen, the other side of Spain Film Commission

At the end of January, the fifth edition of FITUR Screen took place, the section that connects the tourism and the audiovisual sector within the framework of the most important tourism convention in Spain. Film routes and screen tourism are an increasingly important field and it´s a way to make the most out of the numerous productions that are filmed in Spain.

C

ineinforme once again attended FITUR Screen, an event co-organized by the Spain Film Commission and IfemaMadrid with the collaboration of Netflix. The official opening ceremony was attended by María González Veracruz, Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures; Ana Muñoz Llabres, Deputy Director General of Tourism Development and Sustainability of the Secretary of State for Tourism, Carlos Rosado, President of Spain FC, and Esperanza Ibáñez, Director of Institutional Relations at Netflix. Carlos Rosado remembered the beginning of this project: “Five years ago the director of IFEMA listened to me and we created a space at the service of knowledge of what audiovisual-related tourism meant. It was not an exotic idea because it was based on a study of how the audiovisual influences every aspect in life, including tourism. Immediately, we received help from the Secretary of State for Tourism and now we have a space that is better and broader”.

Esperanza Ibáñez stressed that it is the third time in a row that they have sponsored the event: “It is undeniable that stories have an extraordinary power to make us travel in a figurative sense but also increasingly in a more real sense. In the end, everything we see through the screens arouses interest for us to go visit it”. Ana Muñoz Llabres admitted that the audiovisual industry is strategic "because of its global nature and its ability to generate employment and its modernization" and recalled that 80% of travelers choose their destination based on films and series: "There is no marketing campaign like this one, it is priceless”. María González Veracruz described some of the keys to the ‘Spain, Audiovisual Hub of Europe' Plan, which aims for Spain to become the biggest European studio. The axes are the development of the local industry and the attraction of investments. "We give 25 million euros to City Halls and Councils to develop their digital ecosystems around the audiovisual and that will involve 120 small and medium sized

companies from six regions," she said. Apart from several conferences during the three days, the award for the Best Audiovisual Production 2022, given by Spain Film Commission, was handed to the crew of the film I'm Going to Have a Good Time, a musical inspired by the songs of the group Hombres G that was nominated for the award by Valladolid Film Commission. “The intelligent setting in the city of Valladolid, turned into another character in the film, its excellent reception by the public, and the fluid collaboration with the local Film Commission to carry out the filming” were valued. The Fitur Screen area, located in Hall 8 of Ifema, housed several stands of the Spain Film Commission network: Andalucía FC, Cantabria FC, Castilla la Mancha FC, film offices of the Valencian Community (Alicante, Benidorm, Peñíscola and Valencia), Extremadura FC, Film Madrid, Madrid Film Office, La Rioja FC, Mallorca FC, Menorca FC, Pontevedra FC, Region of Murcia FC, Valladolid FC and Zaragoza Film Office.
